“We’re going to just charge in…wait, eh?” Hilda stopped abruptly halfway through her sentence.
She noticed a person lying motionless in the corner of the wall not far away, face down and back up, as if dead.
Su Mo strode over, flipped the person over, stared at the face for a while, then stood up and said to Hilda, "Go back now."
"Huh?" Hilda was taken aback.
"It seems I've run into an 'old friend'."
Su Mo had no intention of explaining anything to Hilda, so he waved his hand to signal her to go back early, and then rushed directly towards the house not far away.
Chapter Thirty-Seven: Another Demon!
The house in front of me is an ordinary-looking building, a little taller than the surrounding houses, but not so tall as to be unacceptable. It still falls into the category of "just another ordinary house".
This house is the hideout of Aldrich, the King of Beggars.
Of course, he didn't hide inside the house. According to reports from residents of Chaoyang District, this guy dug a hole under the house that connected to an abandoned underground passage.
Legend has it that this underground passage was dug when the City of Thorns was first established, but it was never put to use. Over time, most of the passages collapsed and were abandoned. The few that were still usable became dwellings for wanderers.
Aldridge was hiding in this maze-like underground passageway.
Along the way, he found several other corpses lying on the ground, who had died mysteriously. Su Mo walked into the house without any hindrance, where there were also several other corpses with the same manner of death.
There was a large, obvious hole in the kitchen floor leading to an underground passage.
A pair of not-very-obvious footprints can be seen leading to the hole.
Su Mo stared at the passage for a while, then lifted his foot and looked at the faint shoe print left on the ground.
Silently, he moved the table next to him over, turned it upside down, and placed the tabletop directly on the hole. Then he kicked the cupboard over and placed it on top of the table.
After finishing this task, Su Mo turned and walked out of the kitchen, heading towards the second floor of the house. He kicked open the door, walked to the bed against the wall, and directly overturned the heavy bed, revealing the person inside.
"Aldrich?"
Su Mo looked at the gaunt man in front of him and asked.
The man stared wide-eyed and opened his mouth, seemingly not quite understanding why the other party had discovered him there.
It should be noted that he had been planning this "do-or-die" scheme for a long time.
First, he hid, then spread false information, telling others that he was hiding in an underground passage, luring his enemies into the maze-like passageway inside.
Aldrich had also prepared a corpse that looked remarkably like him, along with explosives, so that a loyal henchman would perish together with the enemy.
He hid in the "most dangerous yet safest" place, waiting for news of his death to spread before secretly leaving Thorn City for good.
It was a perfect plan! Why was it suddenly discovered by someone?
Aldridge disagreed.
"It seems so. I have something I want to ask you," Su Mo said, not caring whether this guy agreed or not.
"How did you find me?" Aldrich asked, wanting to die knowing the truth.
To die without knowing the reason is too frustrating.
"Just lucky," Su Mo said. "Alright, now that I've answered your question, shouldn't you return the favor and answer mine?"
"Good luck?" Aldrich repeated, clearly not believing Su Mo's words.
Just then, a muffled explosion came from downstairs, and the house shook slightly. Not long after, Su Mo heard the sound of heavy objects falling and breaking.
"You split into two groups?" Aldrich suddenly realized.
"Are you asking me now, or am I asking you?"
Su Mo narrowed his eyes and slapped Aldrich against the wall. "Can't you cooperate a little? Do you really want me to do it?"
Aldridge's face made intimate contact with the wall, and the wall ultimately prevailed. He suddenly realized that now was not the time to satisfy his curiosity.
"What do you want to know?" Aldridge asked in a muffled voice, clutching his bleeding nose.
"I……"
Su Mo had just opened his mouth when he suddenly turned around.
Suddenly, a man in a black butler's uniform appeared at the door of the room. He wore frameless glasses, held one hand out in front of his eyes, and gently blew a breath into his palm.
A faint, sweet aroma immediately filled the room.
Su Mo's eyes widened slightly. He clearly saw two butterflies fly out of the Chinese man's palm as he blew air out of his hand. In a moment of distraction, one of the butterflies had landed on his shoulder.
The other butterfly landed on Aldridge behind him.
Aldridge's eyes widened the instant the butterfly landed on his head, and his skin turned deathly pale—as ashen, like that of a corpse.
Su Mo's face also turned pale at the same time. He turned around, squatted down, and looked at Aldrich.
Aldrich reached out a hand with difficulty and grabbed Su Mo's shoulder: "Tell me, how did you know I was here?"
It's hard to imagine that a dying man could say such a complete sentence. I have to say, this guy's curiosity is really extreme.
"I'm really lucky."
In contrast, Su Mo acted like a dying man, sitting helplessly on the ground and waving his hand.
Aldrich's eyes widened, his grip on Su Mo's clothes loosened, and his hands fell limply to the ground, looking as if he had died with his eyes wide open. He probably still thought Su Mo was lying to him before he died.
But in fact, Su Mo really didn't lie to him.
The reason he suddenly ran upstairs was because he heard a slight noise from upstairs while he was standing in the kitchen, so he decided to come and check it out.
As for blocking the entrance, it was to create some trouble for the person who found the place first.
It now seems that this little trouble was no match for the other party, who easily resolved it and arrived here. He blew a breath and directly poisoned Aldridge to death, also poisoning Su Mo in the process.
After saying "I'm so lucky," Su Mo lowered his head slightly and fell silent.
The man in the black butler's uniform withdrew his hand indifferently, straightened his clothes, turned around, and prepared to leave.
Just as he turned around, several gunshots, completely different from those of flintlock muskets in this world, echoed in the room.
The man looked down at the several holes in his body and showed a slightly displeased expression.
"Tsk, as expected, another demon. I knew it. Who could kill so many people silently without anyone noticing?" Su Mo stood up and put away the gun in his hand.
The bespectacled man turned around, his wounds and clothes healing at the same time. He pushed up his glasses and said coldly, "The butler of the Worbus family. Nice to meet you. I am Claude."
"He's a little different from the Claude I remember," Su Mo said, stroking his chin in a way that Claude couldn't quite understand.
"We'll meet again someday."
Claude ignored Su Mo's words, gave a slight bow, and vanished from the spot in a flash.
"Ha, did I say you could leave?"
Su Mo sneered and waved his right hand.
Claude, who had already rushed to the window, suddenly stopped and turned to look at Su Mo: "Are you not planning to let me leave?"
The clothes on his arm tightened, and upon closer inspection, one could see an almost transparent thin thread wrapped around his arm several times.
"Trying to show off and then walk away? How naive," Su Mo said.
The man before him—or rather, the one who called himself Claude's demon—was the one who killed Marquis Monroe before Su Mo, the one who almost wiped out the Worbus family, and the murderer who killed Tranton's parents!
The state of these people's deaths was exactly the same as that of another corpse in the room—Aldrich.
Of course, given Su Mo's level of integrity, the main reason he kept this man around wasn't this, but rather that this guy was a devil.
Su Mo was eager to know if eating this demon would complete his paper scraps.
Claude, who had been "captured" by Su Mo, didn't waste any words. He transformed his right hand into a chop and slashed at the thin thread binding his arm.
The instant he made that movement, spider silk suddenly appeared on his fingers, shimmering with a peculiar glow under the room's lights.
However, when Claude's spider silk, which was powerful enough to cut through steel, cut into the concentric chains, it only produced an extremely unpleasant noise and did not sever the strange "thread" as Claude had expected.
"Ok?"
Claude paused for a moment, then ignored the thin thread wrapped around his arm and charged straight at Su Mo.
Since there's no way to get rid of them, the simplest solution is to kill them directly.
Seeing Claude charging towards him, Su Mo flicked his right hand slightly. The almost transparent thread suddenly changed into a black chain about the thickness of a thumb, which spread out from Claude's arm like a venomous snake, with its sharp, diamond-shaped tip piercing directly into Claude's chest.
Cloud dared not be careless with this special weapon that could harm him, and could only devote some of his energy to grabbing the chains.
However, the moment his fingers touched the chain, the chain instantly became ethereal, piercing through Claude's chest and into his heart.
Claude stopped moving and stared intently at Su Mo.
The other end of the chain, unbeknownst to them, pierced Su Mo's heart, linking the two together.
"Good luck," Su Mo said to Claude, pulled out the pistol he had just used, pointed it at his own head, and pulled the trigger.
A crisp gunshot rang out in the room.
Su Mo's body slumped to one side, blood trickling from his temple, but a strange smile graced his face, making the scene extremely horrifying.
He slowly straightened up again, and the wound on his head healed at a speed visible to the naked eye, squeezing out the bullet.
Claude was kneeling on the ground, one hand clutching his heart, his face contorted in pain, and strange black lines began to spread across his face.
Chapter Thirty-Eight: Devouring, the Bizarre Creature!
"As expected, demons don't die so easily."
Su Mo walked up to Claude.
In just a few steps, Claude's face was covered with black magic runes, and the clothes on his back began to billow, as if something was trying to break through his body and emerge.
His cold eyes were gradually replaced by an eerie red, and he exuded a terrifying and menacing aura.
"call--"
A whooshing sound came from behind the curtain.
The glove on Claude's right hand disappeared, and his long, slender fingers were quickly stained black. It was still the same hand, but the skin had been replaced by a beetle-like black exoskeleton, and his five fingers had transformed into incredibly sharp spikes.
His hands suddenly looked like a combination of the limbs of some kind of arthropod and a human arm, which was extremely strange.
