However, after playing for a short while, Su Mo suddenly frowned. In a moment of carelessness, the character on the screen was instantly killed on Nightmare difficulty.
Ignoring the game, Su Mo stood up and looked around. For a moment, he suddenly felt a sense of disorientation, like the feeling before he fainted from a high fever, when all the sounds and scenery around him seemed to drift away.
However, before this, Su Mo had swallowed more than three hundred parts of the soul, which was equivalent to having more than three hundred complete lives. Not to mention a high fever, even if his body was torn to pieces now, he could recover.
"Could it be because of this?" Su Mo looked down at the small chain that looked like a ring wrapped around his left index finger. It extended from the back of his hand to his wrist and wrapped around it several times, like a black wristband.
This chain, the only remaining piece of the love lock, is made of a special material and can switch between reality and illusion according to the user's will. Its normal length is only a few meters. However, if this chain, slightly thinner than a finger, were broken down into strands as thin as a hair, its length could reach thousands or even tens of thousands of meters.
"That's not right. I can clearly control these chains completely, there's no reason why." However, Su Mo quickly rejected his own idea.
Chapter Five: Mysterious Code
Su Mo used the power of the love lock to "pull" himself out of the paper, then made the paper and the love lock both lose, and took advantage of the situation to become the owner of the mysterious tattered paper. He then used the power of the paper to suppress the last love lock and turn it into his weapon.
Everything went smoothly, just as Su Mo had predicted. Now, a love lock pattern could be seen on one corner of that palm-sized piece of paper, proving Su Mo's absolute control over the chain.
Moreover, the feeling he just experienced was as if the world was leaving him, and this feeling was definitely not caused by the love lock that originally belonged to this world.
"Could it be some kind of aftereffect?" Su Mo stretched out a hand, and a tattered piece of paper the size of a palm appeared on his palm. "Or did those old men leave behind some kind of backup plan?"
With his eyes closed, Su Mo began to fully recall everything that had happened that night.
The frozen images, like pictures, slowly flipped through Su Mo's mind in chronological order, but unfortunately, he gained nothing in the end.
After all, Su Mo was gambling that night. When he was pierced by the love lock, he had no time or energy to observe anything else. If those old men had done anything to affect him at that time, Su Mo would not have known.
“Now I’ve got something to do. I was originally planning to let you fend for yourselves, but now I’ll speed up your demise.” Having made up his mind, Su Mo jumped off the third floor and disappeared like a ghost.
When it was time for dinner, the butler discovered that his mysterious young employer had disappeared again. However, he had only seen his employer a few times a year in the past, so the butler was completely used to this situation.
Three days later, in a cold little town in Northern Europe.
This seemingly ordinary place is actually the secret headquarters of the Order of the Crusades; no more than ten people in the world know the location of the Order's headquarters.
Su Mo happened to be one of them.
The Order of the Crusades has always been the main force and leader in the hunt for the monster, the Night King, investing a great deal of resources, manpower, and materials.
After that night, the Church of the Cross also experienced the most severe disintegration.
In this era of declining Dharma, some organizations that were originally established based on supernatural powers, like Su Mo's forces, are actually shrinking or developing in other directions. After all, it's no longer an era where being strong and capable enough could guarantee prosperity.
No matter how good you are at fighting, can you defeat those rapidly evolving weapons?
The Order of the Cross paid a heavy price to deal with Su Mo, even jeopardizing the very foundation of the Order—after all, those led by the old leader had no intention of allowing the Order to continue indefinitely after eliminating Su Mo.
With the death of the once-powerful commander, the lack of a strong leader naturally led to internal strife.
When Su Mo arrived, the once peaceful town was not peaceful at all; a commotion could be faintly heard.
As I walked along the road in the town, snowflakes fell from the sky onto the surrounding rooftops, covering them with a layer of white snow. The entire town was shrouded in darkness, with only a few houses letting in light from their windows.
At Su Mo's feet, the faint sounds of gunfire and explosions could be heard, and occasionally a slight tremor could be felt.
"They really dug a huge underground base, no creativity at all. And the fighting is really intense. Why can't they just sit down and have a proper talk? What if they destroy the data I need while they're fighting like this?" Su Mo muttered a few words, then randomly chose a house, kicked the door open, and went inside.
Most of the houses in this town are decoys; they look no different from normal houses, both inside and out. Only a few houses are entrances and exits to the underground base.
As for why Su Mo knew so much, well, that's a joke. Su Mo revealed the materials and production process of the love lock to the Cross Order. If he didn't even know where the entrance to their headquarters was, Su Mo might as well just buy a block of tofu and kill himself.
With a single punch, Su Mo shattered the floor beneath his feet, forcefully blasting open the door and entering the underground base of the Cross Order.
Various explosions and gunshots suddenly reached my ears, and clouds of smoke filled my vision, while water sprayed from sprinklers overhead.
There were several people holding guns in front of him, looking at Su Mo who had suddenly barged in with tense expressions.
"who are you?"
"That's bullshit! Run!"
After a brief exchange of glances, the men decisively dropped their guns and ran away without hesitation.
Those who could cause infighting within the base at this time must have a certain level of authority. After a brief moment of surprise, they immediately realized that the man who had suddenly appeared before them was that terrifying monster—the Dark Night King.
As for why the Dark King appeared here, the reason is self-evident. He failed to kill his opponent, so he came for revenge, albeit a little later than expected.
Moreover, the timing of their arrival was absolutely perfect; they appeared just when everyone was fighting amongst themselves.
Otherwise, we could put up a fight, but for now, we should just run away.
"Don't go."
However, although these people ran fast, they were still not as fast as Su Mo. They had only run a few steps when a sharp pain came from their backs.
One of them curled up like a ball and rolled several times on the road before finally stopping after crashing into a metal wall.
Su Mo walked up to the unlucky guy he had randomly chosen and asked, "Where is the archives?"
"The archives?" The unlucky guy was taken aback.
"Hmm, and your commander's room, basically everything related to me, tell me where it is. I think you must have a file room about me, with information about me and plans to deal with me, right?" Su Mo squatted down and asked.
The unlucky guy nodded.
"That's right, lead the way." Su Mo stood up.
"You want me to be your guide?" The unlucky guy glared, indicating that he still had some principles.
"Forget it, let's find someone else. You can just die." Su Mo turned his gaze elsewhere, where there were other people.
"No, no!" The unlucky guy immediately changed his expression, thinking that he should just throw away his integrity.
Along the way, they successfully eliminated several clueless members of the Crusader Order who told everyone, through "true stories," just how ruthless and terrifying the legendary Dark King was. Su Mo and that unlucky guy then successfully arrived at a room filled with all sorts of books and electronic materials.
"This is it. The commander used to stay in this room and rarely went out." The unlucky guy glanced cautiously at Su Mo, whose face was still covered in blood, his heart pounding.
Only now did he understand why the Crusades had spent so much manpower and resources yet still couldn't kill this man. Besides being immortal, this guy's speed had reached a terrifying level—he could even dodge bullets at close range.
As for strength, it's not clear yet. The weapon the opponent is using is a gun, or perhaps it was stolen from the opponent; they didn't even bother to draw their own pistol.
“There’s so much, you can keep it and we can look through it together,” Su Mo said, looking at the room full of documents.
"Looking for...what are you looking for?" the unlucky fellow asked.
"A plan to deal with me." Su Mo buried his head and began searching... He naturally chose electronic documents, leaving the troublesome paper documents to others.
Half an hour later, the unlucky guy, holding a thick notebook, suddenly started breathing heavily.
"Found it?" Su Mo looked up from the screen.
"No... I don't know why, but when I saw this code, I suddenly felt my heart race," Lu Ren said. The notebook in his hand resembled an experimental log, recording the events that happened in this room every day.
He had now flipped to the very end and found no information on how to deal with the Night King, but he did discover a rather mysterious piece of code.
Even as a member of the Christian Order with relatively high authority, Lu Ren was completely baffled by the code and had no recollection of it, proving that the information hidden within it was beyond his level of access.
The only information Lu Ren couldn't access recently was the major event of dealing with the Dark Night King. The only thing that puzzled Lu Ren was that his heart raced slightly when he saw the code composed of numbers, symbols, and letters.
"Code, hidden information?" Su Mo picked up the book and saw the hastily written code—ed2k://|file|uu.a-v-i|733-007-872…
"Give it a try." Frowning slightly, Su Mo typed the code into the computer in front of him, and a download interface popped up, downloading a document at lightning speed.
Upon opening the document, the words "Poisoning the King" caught Su Mo's eye.
"Poisoning?" Su Mo narrowed his eyes slightly and turned to Lu Ren beside him.
Lu Ren wasn't stupid; without looking back, he rushed out the door. He didn't know if Su Mo wanted him to leave or kill him, but the implication was clear: he wasn't allowed to see the information. If he didn't leave now, when would he?
However, just as he took a step, the door, which had been wide open, was suddenly slammed shut, accompanied by a mechanical sound.
Lu Ren's expression changed, and he rushed to the door, trying to open it, only to receive the word "failure." His already unpleasant face turned even paler.
"I never expected the Dark King to grace us with his presence. I am truly sorry for not welcoming you properly."
A projector, seemingly from nowhere, projected an image onto a white wall: a man with some scars on his face sitting in a luxurious conference room, speaking to Su Mo.
Chapter Six Hidden Dangers
More than half an hour has passed since Su Mo entered the underground base of the Christian Order. Even if the infighting among them is intense, it is impossible to continue fighting when a major enemy has already attacked their headquarters.
It took about fifteen minutes to tidy up the mess and barely reach a temporary agreement. Then it took another twenty minutes to discuss how to deal with Su Mo.
Now the Order of the Cross has begun its formal counterattack—although Su Mo had no intention of targeting any particular individuals; he was simply there to find the cause of his own problems.
The Order of the Cross was merely Su Mo's first stop; of course, if he found it here, this would also be his last stop.
"Although I don't know what the Dark Night King wants to do, just showing up here like this is a bit too inappropriate—"
The man in the video started to speak, but before he could finish, Su Mo grabbed a pen holder from the table next to him and threw it towards the ceiling behind him.
The projector, which had extended a short distance from the wall, was smashed by the pen holder, and the image in front of him vanished instantly. Su Mo shifted his gaze and continued staring at the screen in front of him.
Lu Ren's lips twitched, and he couldn't help but turn around and ask, "Why was it smashed?"
"I can't be bothered to listen." Su Mo waved his hand. "It's just a bunch of nonsense."
"..." Faced with Su Mo's domineering behavior, Lu Ren felt that he could not find a better way to respond than to remain silent.
"What does he mean by that?!"
In the conference room, after seeing Su Mo's actions on the screen, his own projection disappeared. The man's eyes widened, his fists clenched tightly, and he squeezed out a few words through clenched teeth.
"What does he want?" one of them asked. "Does he not want to talk to us?"
"Haha."
Some people laughed, "Talk to us? I told you long ago, this monster doesn't even consider us a threat. What's the point of him talking to us?"
"Not necessarily." Someone analyzed with a serious expression, "Judging from his current actions, his purpose in coming here is not to kill us or seek revenge, but to search for something."
"The commander failed to kill him, but still managed to injure him? He wants to recover?" someone wondered.
"Then let's take this opportunity to kill him!"
The meeting room was in chaos, with more than a dozen people arguing incessantly.
"Alright, shut up, all of you!" The man who had been projecting the image suddenly roared, silencing the others, and stared at Su Mo on the screen, saying, "Since he wants to stay here, let him stay here. Let's go! This place can be this guy's grave!"
After a brief silence, everyone nodded in agreement.
Faced with a monster that is impossible to kill, impossible to defeat, and completely devoid of any communication ability, what good options do they have? Abandoning the base and using it as a cage for the monster, so that they can escape, is already the best possible solution.
"From now on, there will be no more Order of the Cross," someone said, their tone tinged with melancholy.
