Chapter 0001 Completely Baffled

Los sat on his bed, staring blankly at the old, classic bedroom, completely bewildered.

It was truly baffling, because what was sitting on the bed was a headless body.

He was amazed that he was still alive even though he had no head.

Not only are they alive, they can even "see" all the scenery around them.

"It's really baffling." Los raised his hand, touched his neck, and even made a perfectly normal sound.

Los rolled out of bed and looked at himself in the mirror. He was wearing a dark blue nightgown, covered in blood. The wound on his neck was neat and clean, and the bleeding had stopped. It was clear that the person who did it had acted quickly and killed him in his sleep.

"The original owner of this body was truly pitiful. He seemed to be the heir of a family who was killed shortly after becoming the mayor of this town."

Los remained remarkably calm, even though he hadn't quite grasped the situation. When it comes to time travel, the more panicked you are, the more mistakes you're likely to make. And the fact that he was still alive in this situation meant he must have some kind of cheat code!

So Los closed his eyes and began to organize the body's memories.

Although his head is gone, the remnants of his soul remain.

He soon learned the body's name: Los Arkham.

“Los Arkham?” Los was momentarily stunned, then continued to integrate other memories, and suddenly realized that it all felt all too familiar.

A parallel world, a town mayor who was beheaded but didn't die—isn't this the game I hadn't finished designing back then?

Before transmigrating, when he had nothing to do, Los designed an open-world Cthulhu-style word game. Based on a basic module found online, he spent nearly half a year designing the core area of the world, a town called Arkham.

This is the core location mentioned many times in the Cthulhu Mythos, the source of countless evil god legends, the place where witches live, the cursed town, the gathering place of cults and villainous gangs, and the most bizarre place in the world.

This town is not only a chaotic and eerie place of sin, but it also incorporates many elements from Yharnam in Bloodborne, such as the blood wine that can drive people mad and dungeons containing ancient ruins, making the town even more bizarre and dangerous.

These memories sent a chill down Los's spine.

As the town's designer, he knew all too well how crazy and bizarre the town was.

He even saw in his memory the familiar harbor of Innsmouth, not far from here, and the remote town of Dunwich.

The former's native inhabitants are a group of hybrid fish-man monsters, while the latter experienced the arrival of the son of an evil god seven years ago.

These three haunted places, centered around Arkham, are always shrouded in various curses and strange rumors, drawing countless people with curiosity to come here, only to leave filled with fear and madness, or simply die here.

“But my game design is only just getting started. I’ve only completed most of the settings for Arkham Town. The area outside the town is still a blank slate!” Los habitually touched his head, but found nothing.

But since this place has developed into a completely new world, it means that the blank space has been filled in by an unknown force.

According to the original owner's memories, this is an alternate world similar to Earth, but also with many differences.

There are two moons in the sky, three continents in the world, and three great empires.

Today, Arkham Town is located in the Rosas Empire on the western continent, near the Holy Sea, and is a very remote hilly town.

The world's overall technological level has reached the era of the Second Industrial Revolution. Electricity has become more widespread, and cars have become a standard feature of successful people.

But before the new world has arrived, the ancient old world has quietly made a comeback.

The existence of the Innsmouth mixed-race monsters has not yet been discovered in this world, and there are even quite a few of them living in Arkham.

Seven years have passed since the events surrounding the offspring of the evil god on Sentinel Ridge in Dunwich. The matter has been erased by an unknown force and disappeared from people's sight.

Everything looked like a very peaceful and ordinary modern world.

The ancestors of Los Arkham were the main builders of the town of Arkham three hundred years ago, and their family has been the rulers of the town ever since.

Whether it was because the area was impoverished and remote, or because it was a hotbed of crime, the Empire paid little attention to this relatively remote and backward town.

The Arkham family passed down through generations, finally reaching this place, and then something happened.

Los Arkham, who had just assumed the position of mayor three days earlier, was beheaded in his sleep and taken away.

As the memory continues, Los also discovers the incident involving the blood wine.

In the town of Arkham, people have quietly begun to use blood instead of alcohol since his father implemented a large-scale prohibition of alcohol ten years ago.

And these blood wines made them feel even better, and they subsequently became completely addicted.

And at this moment, Los is the very person he designed—the headless mayor, the hidden ultimate boss of Arkham, who survived being beheaded!

"This time travel is really amazing, it's so baffling!" Los scratched his head.

"Let's look at the problem at hand first. Although it's not uncomfortable to be without a head, it still feels a bit strange."

Although he was completely unaware of the situation outside the town, he had an excellent understanding of the town's internal workings, thanks to his status as the town's creator god.

He even knew the town mayor's background, abilities, and so on very well.

"Los Arkham, a top student at Miskatonic University, majoring in Classical Languages, was preparing to travel to the Imperial Capital after graduation, but was forced to inherit the position of mayor due to his father's unexpected death."

"In my design, his father participated in the birth of the evil god's offspring at Sentinel Ridge in Dunwich seven years ago and was corrupted as a result. He then obtained the means to communicate with the great evil god 'Yog-Sothoth' through various methods and has been secretly worshipping him ever since."

"This person, as the hidden ultimate boss, is extremely powerful. In the setting, after losing his head, his body mutated. His thoughts and consciousness, freed from the constraints of his head, can be infinitely extended, capable of accommodating and analyzing countless non-human knowledge."

"Relying on this ability, he constantly held rituals to acquire countless non-human knowledge from various evil gods, and transformed Arkham into his own crazy paradise."

"However, that was ten years later when the player entered. The current timeline is 1930 in the dual calendar. This young man, who is only twenty-four years old, has not been driven crazy by his strange appearance."

"But now, I need to get my head back first, and then consolidate power over the entire town and take it into my own hands."

He himself knows better than anyone how complex and unpredictable the various factions within Arkham are now.

Chapter 0002: It's easier to think without a head.

After sorting out his general thoughts, Los turned around and opened the window to let out the bloody smell in the room.

He then rolled up his blood-stained sheets and placed them aside.

"According to my chronicle, the murderers who beheaded Los Arkham were the town's biggest gang: the Vanks gang, who were involved in the smuggling of blood wine. Los Arkham hated blood wine and issued a blood wine ban on his second day in power."

Los didn't care about the Vanks gang itself; what he really cared about was his complex design for the gang.

"This Vanks gang is currently in control of the central district and is a subordinate of the Rhodes Merchant Guild. The Rhodes Merchant Guild is a gang supported by the Strategic Bureau of the enemy country, the Augustus Empire. But what truly controls everything in the merchant guild is a powerful cult called the Hand of Chaos."

The town of Arkham has nine districts, secretly controlled by eight forces, including the secret intelligence agencies of the three great empires, the struggle between imperial and divine power, the rituals and conflicts of various cults, and the interdepartmental interests of extraordinary organizations.

"It's really a headache. These complicated faction settings were designed to harm the players, but I never expected to get caught up in them myself." Los was filled with helplessness at this moment.

Although somewhat helpless, the matter still needed to be dealt with. After all, he was the mayor, and he couldn't possibly run away in this headless form.

"But in the chronicles, the story of the loss of the head in Los Arkham ends there; I don't know where they took my head."

Loston was feeling quite exhausted: "As expected, the flawed setup ultimately backfired."

If the design were more refined, he could have simply retrieved his head.

"Moreover, judging from the neat cutting technique, the person who attacked me was not an ordinary person, but probably a superhuman belonging to the Hand of Chaos."

Los originally designed it not as a tabletop RPG, but as an open-world exploration game, hence the 100-level power system.

This world has no magic or anything like that. Extraordinary power is simply breaking through the limitations of humanity and evolving into a powerful but bizarre ancient god.

The limit for ordinary people is level ten, which is the level of top elite special forces soldiers. To break through level ten, one needs to master special knowledge and then modify their body through a special ritual.

After reaching level 100, one can become an Ancient God through a special method.

The method of upgrading is through ingesting special blood. Ingesting different types of blood will cause one's body to evolve in different directions.

This can give people tremendous power, but it can also gradually drive them mad, ultimately immersing them in a thirst for blood.

And that's exactly the kind of exciting design that Los wanted.

Los was deep in thought when he opened the door and found a trail of blood in the hallway leading out of his bedroom. It was the murderer carrying his head out of the bedroom.

Upon arriving at the living room on the first floor, Los saw signs of a struggle and then discovered a human corpse.

This was a gray-haired man whose face was smashed open, blood splattered everywhere, and even his internal organs had been dug out and thrown on the ground. The scene was extremely gruesome.

Seeing this scene, Los should have felt extremely disgusted and terrified, but he felt nothing at the moment.

"The mental mutation has greatly enhanced my overall comprehension and resilience," Los thought of his own setup.

He recognized the middle-aged man; he was Carrington, his personal butler and the only servant in the old house.

Carrington is his father George Arkham's childhood friend, 45 years old this year, and also his father's most trusted person.

In Los's design, Carrington has been a follower of Yog-Sothoth for seven years and possesses a great deal of forbidden knowledge and special abilities.

He appears as a level 18 extraordinary being, and ten years later he will become one of the apparent bosses.

"The killer who could kill a level 18 Carrington is also injured, so it seems the killer's level is only around level 20," Los said after examining the scene in detail.

Looking back at Carrington's corpse, Los felt a deep sense of cruelty and unease, even though he had no feelings for him now. After all, Carrington was his only servant and his only support after his father's death.

"His own head was taken away, his only powerful servant was killed, and everyone in the city looked down on this mayor who had risen to power hastily by bloodline. He was isolated and helpless, surrounded by tigers and wolves. It was truly a hellish start."

After a few seconds of contemplation, Los turned and walked toward the back of the house, where there was a downward staircase leading to an old basement.

Los's house wasn't big; it was just an old three-story villa.

Because of the taboo rituals, the family did not employ servants; Carrington was in charge of both internal and external affairs. This made Los very dissatisfied when he was young, as he felt that this lacked prestige.

Going down the stairs into the basement, you see these spare tools and bottles neatly arranged.

Los skillfully pressed a brick, and a path appeared leading down to the place where Yogthos was worshipped and offered sacrifices.
