When he got to his front door, he heard cheerful laughter and conversation coming from inside. He thought he had gone to the wrong house, since his home hadn't been this lively in a long time.

I looked up at the black and white signboard and saw that it was indeed 305. At that moment, the key successfully opened the door.

As soon as Daryl opened the door, he saw his beloved daughter Tracy standing there. Her face was no longer dull and gloomy, but full of youth and vitality.

Her complexion was fair and rosy, full of radiance. Her once dull golden curls regained their dazzling brightness from a few years ago. Most importantly, her pair of emerald-green eyes were now full of liveliness and divine light.

thump!

Daryl dropped his briefcase to the ground, his mouth agape, his expression indescribably complex, as if he were witnessing a scene that no male gorilla could comprehend.

“Dad!” Trish opened her arms and hugged her father tightly.

"My God! My God! God above, what is happening?" Daryl was so excited that he couldn't describe it. Tears streamed down his face, and his body trembled uncontrollably.

Trish exclaimed happily, "Daddy! My eyes are healed!"

Daryl hugged his daughter tightly as they entered the house. He casually placed his hands on her shoulders and carefully examined her eyes. With his keen insight, he discovered that not only had Trish's eyes improved, but her entire physical condition had undergone an unprecedented transformation.

"My God! Lyra! Lyra! What's going on? Is it a divine intervention?" Daryl exclaimed excitedly.

"It was Mayor Arkham," said Lyra, who came out of the kitchen. "He came here this afternoon and healed Trish's eyes in just forty minutes."

Upon hearing this, Daryl's expression froze instantly, and a look of horror and disbelief flashed across his previously excited eyes.

"Who?" he asked stiffly.

Trish said, "It's Mayor Los Arkham, a kind and great man."

Daryl felt his head explode when he heard this. His joy and excitement turned into fear and coldness, as if he had fallen into an ice cave.

Seeing the admiration and joy on his wife and daughter's faces, Daryl quickly changed his expression and hurriedly asked, "Did the mayor come here, cure Trish, and then leave?"

“Yes, he said he was the mayor, and that it was only right for him to save me, no matter what his status was. He’s a great man. He didn’t ask for any reward and rushed back home to handle his official business,” Trish said, her face full of admiration.

Daryl asked hurriedly, "How did he cure you? Are you feeling unwell?"

Trish was taken aback: "Dad, what's wrong? I feel great right now, I feel healthier than ever before. Mayor Arkham cured my eyes with a special injection therapy."

"injection"

Daryl's heart sank to the bottom, because he immediately thought of the blood therapy that Los had mentioned earlier that day.

Chapter 0011: A Dialogue of Unilateral Suppression

During dinner, Daryl clearly sensed his wife and daughter's admiration and gratitude for Los. Although he was filled with fear, he didn't say much because he didn't want to bring danger to his wife and daughter.

He didn't believe in those extraordinary beings; he believed in science.

He wrote to a friend who was studying medicine several times about his daughter's condition. He said that the cause of his daughter's illness was not her eyes, but the nerves in her brain. His friend said that this condition was currently incurable and could only be alleviated through special methods.

Through his wife and daughter's conversation, Daryl discovered that Los was very knowledgeable about the disease and even knew professional terms like "neurology."

Although Los demonstrated sufficient professionalism, he still felt fear inside.

He knew very well the process of treatment; even a common cold couldn't be cured in half an hour, let alone a brain disease that had lasted for several years!

He knew that Los was using a special ability that he couldn't understand. He didn't know anything about this ability, and he was afraid that while it might benefit his daughter, it also carried many other risks.

After a tasteless dinner, Daryl returned to his bedroom, grabbed his pistol, made an excuse to leave the house, and ran wildly towards Los's house.

This is the fastest he has run in ten years. Having lost his parents at a young age, the people he cherishes most in his life are his wife and daughters, and he will not allow anyone to hurt them!

Meanwhile, Los, who was frantically eating, received a report from Carrington: "Young Master, Daryl has arrived, and as you predicted, he is in a great hurry."

With his mouth greasy from eating, Los casually said, "Let him in."

Daryl walked into the old villa under Carrington's watchful gaze.

He didn't like coming here because it was too quiet and eerie. He always felt there was a danger here that he couldn't understand, especially the butler who always had a blank expression and a hoarse voice, which made him feel uneasy.

But he had to come today because he was very worried about his daughter.

Before even entering the restaurant, Daryl heard a chewing sound. For some reason, the sound made him uneasy, and he instinctively reached for his gun.

Once inside, I saw Los eating a large piece of beef leg with no class whatsoever.

That was a piece of beef that was a full meter long, weighing at least twenty pounds if you calculate it slightly. Under Daryl's watchful eye, Los quickly ate the beef leg without even spitting out the bones, chewing them up and swallowing them whole.

That's a cow's leg bone! He knew very well just how hard it was.

After eating a large piece of beef, Los wiped his mouth, looked at Daryl's serious face, and asked with a smile, "Oh! My dear city manager, is there something you need?"

Daryl swallowed hard, forcing back his fear, and gritted his teeth, asking, "What did you do to my daughter?!"

Los turned to Carrington: "Is something wrong with Miss Trish?"

Carrington calmly replied, "Nothing happened, young master. On the contrary, thanks to your treatment, my eyesight has been restored, and I have regained a very healthy body."

Hearing this, Los understood and turned to Daryl: "My municipal manager, what happened?"

Daryl gritted his teeth and whispered, "That's not a cure. I know that with current medical technology, her illness is incurable!"

"And what kind of illness can be cured in half an hour?! What exactly did you do to her?!"

Los laughed after hearing this: "Oh, so that's what it is."

Instead of answering his question, he asked, "Do you know why I can eat such a big piece of beef leg?"

Daryl remained silent.

“This is the energy that was used to heal your daughter,” Los said.

Daryl was taken aback: "What do you mean!?"

Los held out his hand: "As long as we understand the form and principles of the human body well enough, and have enough energy to support it, nothing is impossible."

As Los spoke, he looked at Daryl and said calmly, "My municipal manager, don't treat things you can't understand as if they don't exist."

"That would only make you look very naive and ignorant."

Upon hearing this, Daryl was momentarily speechless, unsure how to respond.

For some reason, he suddenly felt a sense of fear towards this young man.

As an intelligence officer with many years of experience, he possessed excellent mental fortitude and strong insight, but the person sitting in front of him at this moment was completely unfathomable to him.

Faced with Daryl's silence, Los casually stuffed two tomatoes into his mouth: "Tracy is a good girl, she shouldn't lose her bright future because of her eyes."

"There's no need to worry about what I did to her. Her health will only improve in the future, and she won't experience any of the side effects you're imagining."

Daryl asked in a low voice, "Human nature is inherently evil, and unprovoked kindness is the most dangerous. What is your purpose? To win my support?"

Upon hearing this, Los scoffed.

The laughter was somewhat grating and made Daryl feel very uncomfortable.

“Daryl, I know your past and your identity very well. Therefore, your support is of no use to me.”

Daryl recalled their conversation in the office earlier that day, and his heart sank: "How did you know?"

Without realizing it, the way we address each other has changed.

“I know far more than you think. Healing Trish is giving you a chance,” Los said, standing up.

“Opportunity? What opportunity can I have?” Daryl asked cautiously.

Los said directly, "The opportunity to pledge allegiance to me."

“Loyalty to you? Sorry, I only pledge allegiance to the Empire,” Daryl immediately refused.

“Any lie is useless in front of me, Daryl. You are a very selfish and pragmatic person. You have never been loyal to the Empire, nor to any lofty ideals.”

"You are truly loyal to yourself and your family."

At that moment, Los's eyes seemed to pierce Daryl's soul as he stared at Daryl and asked, "Am I right?"

Faced with such sharp eyes, Daryl's expression changed drastically, and his body instinctively took a step back. Los's words tore away all his pretense and revealed his truest self.

"Why choose me? With your abilities, there should be many other candidates, right?" Daryl asked in a hoarse voice after a few seconds of silence.

Los thought to himself, "Sorry, I have no other choice."

Of course, you can't say it out loud.

“There are indeed many candidates, but it will be a little troublesome. They don’t have your identity, and training them will take some time and effort. I’m rather lazy, so I directly found the most suitable person.”

Looking at Los's calm and composed demeanor, Daryl hesitated for a moment before asking, "Can you really protect my family's safety?"

Los: "Tracy's eyes are a reward for my future loyal subordinate, and also a way to let you know the methods of your future boss."

Daryl's mindset had changed somewhat. As Los said, he was a very pragmatic person who didn't care who his leader was, as long as it was in his own and his family's best interest.

Chapter 0012 Rhodes Chamber of Commerce

After this shift in thinking, Daryl asked, "What do you want?"

Upon hearing this, Los nodded secretly. After using both carrot and stick tactics, all that was left was to make empty promises.

Los turned to look out the window: "I am not satisfied with Arkham as it is now. It is too backward and chaotic, and the people here have suffered enough."

"I want to change all of this. I want to eliminate those gangs and cults, restore unified management of the city, and allow citizens to live a stable and comfortable life."

"I want Arkham to be in our hands, to become the center of the world through our development and operation."

Daryl was stunned when he heard this. He had thought this guy would come up with some crazy ideas, such as evil god worship, starting a rebellion, or even smuggling minerals and trafficking people, and thus need his help.

But to his complete surprise, this person actually proposed such a positive goal.

"Are you kidding me?" Daryl stammered.

Los turned to look at him, smiling, and asked, "What? Do I look that much like an evil person?"

“No, no, please don’t misunderstand.” Daryl shook his head.

Los's deep eyes gazed at the scenery outside the window: "What I want is order. If you wanted chaos, your wife and daughters wouldn't be in your home now; they would be here with me as hostages."

Daryl suddenly realized that with Los's current methods and abilities that he couldn't understand, he could have used a more direct and radical approach.

Thinking about this, Daryl felt a chill of fear, followed by some relief at the young mayor's pro-order nature.

After all, he had already visited his home quietly.

Daryl said seriously, "Mayor, your goal will be very difficult to achieve."

“I had similar thoughts when I came here ten years ago, but I quickly came to terms with reality.”

Los said calmly, "That's because you're just an ordinary person, while I am not."
