So when Jack brought in two people who had previously worked closely with the Red Rock Society—Tallinn, the president of the Tallinn Merchant Guild, and Count Eric—he said one thing.
Have you heard of Amway?
"Um, Captain Jack Sparrow," Chris asked cautiously after watching the two leave, "Would that work?"
Jack said something profound: "Whether they are businessmen, mafia members, nobles, or anyone else, they are all, in the end, capitalists who control capital and compete for profits in this country."
"Capitalist?" This was still a new term for most people.
“That’s right, capitalists. For these capitalists, it’s no longer them who control capital, but the capital behind them that controls their actions.”
Just as everyone was still pondering the meaning of those words, Jack slowly uttered that famous quote.
"If there is a 20% profit, capital will be restless; if there is a 50% profit, capital will take risks; if there is a 100% profit, capital will dare to risk being hanged; if there is a 300% profit, capital will dare to trample on all human laws."
Yes, Jack offered a lot of benefits to break the existing network of interests, and then built a new network of interests with himself at the top of the pyramid.
This pyramid will grow larger and larger, and eventually, those at the top will be willing to make enemies of everyone in order to maintain their enormous profits. Those at the bottom, as if brainwashed, will continue to recruit others until the very last minute before the pyramid collapses, fantasizing about one day joining the ranks at the top.
By the time they realized what was happening, it was too late. Jack could have used this opportunity to eliminate all obstacles and then turn around and deal with these people.
"However, this cannot be accomplished in a day or two. The most urgent task is to send people to keep a close eye on the coast and the port. Johnny, pass on the word that finding that person is the priority right now. We can deal with the Yutaka Kingdom's affairs slowly."
"Not in a hurry to seize the casino?" Haku asked.
"Forget it, you can't force these things. Maybe we can 'bump into' each other at another gang's casino."
Then Jack and his friends spent two whole days eating, drinking, and having fun, euphemistically calling it a balance between work and rest.
That's not the case at all. They say they're eating, drinking, and having fun, but the process is actually incredibly tiring.
Each time, he would pretend to be slightly drunk, then casually reveal Captain Jack Sparrow's glorious past and how he broke the curse of the Aztec gold coins. What? You're asking me what the Aztecs are? I don't know either; only Captain Jack Sparrow and the deceased Barbossa know.
At first, it only circulated in a small circle, and people just thought it was Jack and his gang bragging. They had never even heard of Aztec gold coins or the curse of the undead.
Two days later, thanks to the efforts of some people, almost everyone in Pacquia knew the name of the new Red Rock Society leader, Captain Jack.
The power of gossip is truly remarkable; experiences that sound incredibly interesting spread much more easily than boring truths.
As for why Jack did this, it's simple: to conceal their identities as members of the Revolutionary Army. Right now, they're just the leaders of a mid-sized gang, and they're already being investigated. As they consolidate their power and expand their influence, they'll attract even more attention, and it will undoubtedly draw the attention of the World Government.
Proclaiming a false identity beforehand can effectively disrupt intelligence agencies' investigations, and as more people pass it around, the lie can eventually become the truth.
That said, there are still spoils of war after defeating the ability users.
After Jack killed Joyce, the familiar blue beam of light rose again. Jack reached out and took Joyce's Devil Fruit in his hand.
Jack thinks that instead of cosplaying Jack, you should just cosplay Blackbeard; that's what makes it a true representation and a true recreation.
When Jack was about to sell it to the store, he discovered it was only worth a paltry 30,000, which was the price of a single rocket launcher.
Anyway, Jack can't beat the system. Whatever the system says is worth, that's what it is. There's nothing Jack can do about it.
Besides rocket launchers, there are other items such as TMP submachine guns, upgrade packs, rifles (sniper rifles), first aid sprays, and ammunition supplies. Of course, you can also upgrade your firearms.
Then, on second thought, why not give the fruit to someone else, so they can have another Devil Fruit user? That way, they could quickly create a powerful fighter, which would be quite useful in the upcoming operations.
But then I thought about it and it didn't seem right. If I did that, wouldn't that be telling the world that I can kill Devil Fruit users and steal their abilities? I don't even have Blackbeard's strength yet, and I'm already trying to attract hatred like Blackbeard. That's just asking for trouble.
So, what about buying guns? My backpack isn't big enough. Right now, I have two pistols, a shotgun, some bullets and first-aid spray in my inventory, and even the initial knife is in my inventory.
With the addition of various miscellaneous personal items, it was crammed full. There was simply no room for other weapons. Expanding the backpack would cost 24000, and the remaining money would only be enough to buy some bullets.
After some deliberation, I finally decided to expand the space first, so that I could save the rest of the money for future purchases.
Although buying a backpack might seem pointless, it's a long-term investment. Besides, wasn't Joyce killed because of a backpack issue?
Who could imagine that a man who is not physically strong and dressed sloppily could suddenly pull out a big gun?
After all this, Jack was even a little smug. If things continued to develop this way, as long as he hunted enough ability users, he would be able to dominate the New World in no time.
Of course, Jack was just speculating. Putting aside whether it's easy to deal with ability users, this guy hasn't even unlocked many of the shop items yet, let alone dominate the basket.
Just as Jack was lost in his daydreams, imagining his future life as a thug, beating up kindergartens and kicking nursing homes, a message he had been waiting for arrived.
With a large number of people squatting on the shore, guarding day and night, the blind swordsman finally appeared.
Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Show Begins
"Captain Jack, the man you mentioned didn't linger after disembarking. He asked a passerby for directions and headed straight for Brilliant Night," a subordinate dressed in black reported as he ran up.
Jack was very satisfied with this: "It seems that the publicity we've done these past two days has been successful. Everyone knows to call themselves Captain Jack now, instead of some kind of boss."
"You step back first, let the brothers get ready, something big might happen later," Jack instructed the man.
After the man left, Jack prepared to speak to Haku beside him...
"You mean, 'Let's go, Haku,' right?" Haku said helplessly.
Jack feigned surprise and said, "Emma, you can read minds now? That's amazing, Haku."
“Of course he can read minds. Whenever there’s something to do, he says the same thing. I’m so tired of hearing it.” Haku spread his hands and sighed, “That’s probably Captain Jack’s favorite line to say the most.”
"Hehe, well, what's that saying again? The capable should do more work." Even someone as thick-skinned as Jack felt a little embarrassed by Haku's teasing.
But since Haku is currently Jack's strongest fighter, he has to handle many things. Jack is even considering giving Haku an MVP award someday.
However, Jack quickly pretended nothing had happened and said seriously, "The rest of you stay where you are and wait for my signal. Be ready to move out at any time."
“Then, let’s go, Haku.” Jack tidied up his cosplay props, turned around, and walked out.
Haku covered his face and said, "Sigh, you still managed to say that." Amidst the others behind him covering their mouths and snickering, he followed Jack to Glory Night.
When Jack arrived at the entrance of Brilliant Night, one of his men had been waiting there for a long time. Upon seeing Jack and his companion, he immediately reported, "Captain Jack, the target has been inside for about 5 minutes."
Jack nodded in a perfunctory manner and praised the man, "Well done, go back and rest." As he spoke, he took out a wad of banknotes from his pocket and rewarded the man.
After putting on this act, Jack went inside.
Jack's actions at the door weren't a whim to show off his wealth. Rather, they were a deliberate attempt to reveal his "temperament" to the outside world.
Jack's name has been heard throughout the entire city of Paque in the past two days, but most people only know his name and, at best, have only heard of what Jack looks like.
I have no idea what Jack's personality is like, what he likes, or what he dislikes.
Jack understood that the more people paid attention to him, the more he needed to portray himself as a cynical and eccentric figure. Most people might not notice this, but those who were observant certainly took note.
Firstly, it can conceal his identity, and secondly, it creates a fixed impression. Then, when Jack suddenly reveals his true colors, he can catch his opponent off guard.
Just as Jack was exchanging chips at the front desk and exchanging a few casual words with the receptionist, the manager in charge of the casino strode up to him.
"I never expected that the famous Captain Jack Sparrow would grace our glorious night with his presence. I am the manager here, and my name is Hans."
The man, dressed in a tuxedo and appearing to be in his forties, bowed politely to Jack.
Jack was secretly pleased; this publicity campaign was a great success, and everyone now knew to call him Captain Jack Sparrow.
“Oh? Hans.” Jack fiddled with a chip in his hand and asked, “I think your casino is quite nice. It would be a real shame to demolish it.”
Hans was speechless, unsure of what Jack meant by suddenly saying that.
Jack continued with a laugh, "Don't be nervous, I'm just here to have some fun. As for VIP areas or premium areas, don't try to persuade me to go there. I just like having fun in crowded places."
“In that case, we needn’t waste any more words,” Hans said, taking two steps back. “I wish you a pleasant time.”
"Haku, what do you think of him?" Jack asked quietly after Hans left.
Haku replied seriously, "He's very capable, not an ordinary person. His little tricks tonight will definitely cause him a lot of trouble."
“Of course,” Jack said in a voice only Haku could hear as he swaggered inside. “He might just be the current leader of the Temujin Society.”
"Oh? Why do you think he's the real boss?" Haku asked, puzzled.
"It's nothing, just a general feeling," Jack said, shaking his head.
During their meeting, Jack had a vague feeling that Hans's movements and manners were very standard, but there was no respect in them whatsoever; it was all an act.
This shows that he actually felt he was no less than Jack, so there was no need for him to be overly respectful to someone of equal rank.
Jack didn't know that this was actually Observation Haki subtly taking effect.
Powerful Observation Haki, like Katakuri's ability to foresee the future, or Fujitora's ability to see others' inner emotions, allows Enel to even combine his Devil Fruit powers to create Mind Web, a device that can read minds.
Jack's Observation Haki was also constantly at work, albeit subtly, but it did indeed enhance Jack's observational abilities.
“Okay, we don’t care about that, let’s have some fun.” Jack raised his voice and continued to portray this unruly character.
Soon, Jack found his target at a table surrounded by many people.
Although his subordinates' reports suggested this person was indeed Itsuki, Jack was still somewhat worried since he hadn't seen him in person. He feared it might be someone else who looked similar. What if it wasn't some kind of relationship like Sanji and Duval's? That would be a disaster.
His familiar purple kimono-style attire, tall stature, and the familiar cane sword at his waist all betrayed him.
Upon seeing this, Jack burst into laughter, pulled out a bottle of rum from his pocket, took a sip, and staggered forward.
The others around him were startled by his sudden laugh and, seeing Jack's strange behavior, quickly moved away.
When Jack walked up to the gambling table, a gambler who had just lost money immediately vented his anger on him.
He angrily rebuked, "Where did this homeless man come from? He doesn't even take a bath. How did the gatekeeper let him in?"
As soon as he said that, his companion's face changed drastically. He quickly covered his mouth from behind, sweating profusely. "Are you out of your mind? What are you yelling about?"
At this moment, he realized that his companion's reaction must have offended someone, and he broke out in a cold sweat.
However, since he had already said those words, it was too late to regret them now.
Jack took a swig of rum, looked at him, and laughed, "What did you just say?"
Chapter Forty: Rum Diplomacy
What did you just say?
Jack pretended to be a little drunk and questioned the person who had spoken rudely earlier.
While Jack found the development of "picking quarrels and provoking trouble" rather amusing, he figured that following it with a series of arrogant and domineering actions would be incredibly satisfying.
But Jack isn't joking around now; he has a mission, and he's a bit caught off guard by this unexpected situation. You're just about to do something big, why are you suddenly throwing this little mishap in the way?
But Jack is Jack after all, and this little crisis is no match for him.
Just as the man was trembling and unsure of what to say, Jack feigned anger and said, "Whatever you said, remember to call me Captain Jack. Understand? If you call me that again, I'll hang you on the mast!"
This self-questioning and self-answering performance seemed to give that person a way out. But it was actually a means of shaping Jack's character.
