Scott laughed and said, "You'll probably still need to keep an eye on things yourself, my friend."
"Why?" Rimbaud asked, tilting his head.
“He might use Apparition, or Floo Net, or wear an Invisibility Cloak that the crows can’t detect,” Scott explained.
He looked down at the raven and said softly, “Only you can tell whether he’s still there by some other reactions—the house-elves’ reactions, or food, or Barty Crouch’s true emotions when he’s home.”
“Alright, you’re always right,” Rimbaud said resignedly. “I’ll go right now!”
It took flight and flew out through the vent in the ceiling.
"In short, we are confident that we can win this week's match!"
Scott pushed open the dormitory door again and heard Roger's confident voice.
"Is the opponent Hufflepuff this time?" Scott asked as he walked in.
“While our opponent is indeed Hufflepuff,” Roger turned to Scott, his expression displeased, “doesn’t it sound like you’re looking down on our team?”
Scott walked straight to the window and sat down on the single sofa.
He bluntly told Roger, "Given the team's current situation, the only person who can give you so much confidence is Hedgehog."
Roger suddenly smiled smugly. "Oh, Scott, you'll regret saying that!"
Eddie, standing to the side, also adopted a smug expression.
"It seems your training has yielded some new results?" Scott asked curiously.
"You'll find out when the time comes," Roger said, keeping everyone in suspense.
At this moment, Eddie proudly raised his thick chin.
Scott raised an eyebrow at Eddie, then quickly said to Roger, "Did Eddie gather crucial intelligence, and then the tactical advisory group devised a winning field strategy?"
Roger was surprised for a moment, then turned to look at Eddie.
Eddie quickly changed his expression and changed the subject, "By the way, Scott, you'll be seeing customers who want arithmetic readings this week."
Scott asked in surprise, "Arithmetic divination? I remember you set a pretty high bar. Who bought 30 Galleons worth of useless products from you during this time?"
For Hogwarts students, 30 Galleons is a huge sum of money.
Moreover, Scott knew very well that the goods Eddie and the Weasley twins sold were not expensive; 30 Galleons could buy a whole lot of them.
“Oh, to be honest, I suspect she bought it for your arithmetic readings,” Eddie shrugged. “Anyway, I’ve never seen her use our products.”
Scott glanced at him. "So who is it?"
“Sawana Doherty,” Eddie said with a smile. “A second-year Ravenclaw student, this is her second arithmetic reading.”
Scott was even more surprised, "Sawana?"
Eddie nodded again.
Scott frowned. "Never mind, let's schedule it for Friday afternoon, which is tomorrow. Classes will end earlier tomorrow afternoon."
The following afternoon, Scott waited for Savannah, who had come alone, in an empty classroom.
Eddie and the Weasley twins, as usual, stood guard outside the classroom door.
Savannah kept her head down in front of Scott and spoke in a low voice.
Scott could only ask her, "Sawana, is there something you need to calculate, or has your brother's situation changed?"
“No.” The red-haired girl looked up at Scott. “This time… it’s for myself.”
The 12-year-old girl's features still looked childish, and her pure, bright green eyes seemed to contain a hint of unease.
“So can you tell me what you want to measure?” Scott asked again.
Savannah lowered her head slightly, her eyelids drooping, her long eyelashes trembling slightly.
“The Christmas holidays…” she said softly, “Of course, we…we don’t have a Christmas tradition…Anyway, I want to know if I can return to Hogwarts after the holidays.”
Scott was somewhat surprised by this. "What do you mean? Did your parents make you drop out of school?"
“No.” Savannah shook her head. “I…I just…I have to do something, a trial, yes, a trial. I don’t know if I can succeed…”
“A trial that puts your life in danger? Is that necessary?” Scott looked at her in surprise.
Could it be some kind of Druid tradition?
But now it's 1993.
Savannah nodded slightly, her face somewhat pale.
Scott hesitated for a moment, then spoke, "I have no intention of prying into your secrets, Savannah, but..."
He paused, then said with a hint of helplessness, "You should know the limitations of arithmetic divination. Arithmetic divination and prophecy are completely different. I probably can't calculate an accurate result for this kind of question."
"Are the known conditions insufficient?" Savannah looked up at Scott again.
“That’s right.” Scott nodded.
Savannah opened her mouth, seemingly hesitant.
Scott didn't urge her; it was a matter of Savannah's privacy, and whether she spoke or not was entirely up to her.
After a moment of silence, Savannah said softly, "Let's calculate it like this. It doesn't matter if it's inaccurate."
She ultimately didn't tell everyone what had happened.
Scott had no objection to this.
However, out of a sense of responsibility to his customers, he added, "Are you sure? If that's the case, you might as well go and visit Professor Trelawney."
Savannah shook her head. "That's fine. I believe in your arithmetic divination."
Scott was somewhat helpless.
But he himself didn't believe in himself.
However, since it was the customer's request, he had no choice but to proceed.
Chapter 308 Friday Night Tutoring
Scott performed arithmetic divination for Savannah, and unsurprisingly, due to the severe lack of known information, he arrived at an ambiguous answer.
“The divination results are good; you will return to Hogwarts,” Scott told Savannah.
He thought, "Let's just take it as encouragement, since we haven't gotten any results anyway."
"Thank you." Savannah smiled immediately upon hearing this, looking very happy.
She stood up, placed two Galleons on the desk in front of Scott, and before Scott could speak, she turned around and ran quickly out of the classroom.
That evening, Scott went to the Room of Requirement after dinner.
Since the next day was Saturday, and there was a Ravenclaw Quidditch match in the morning, he chose to make up for the missed study time on Friday evening.
"tutor……"
Out of curiosity, Scott told Ravenclaw about Savannah.
In the painting, Ravenclaw tells Scott, "The Druids were founded by the Celts in Britain. According to tradition, they would let people drift at sea for many days. If anyone survived, they would be buried alive. Only if they passed both tests could they officially join the Druids."
"Is this the test Savannah was talking about?" Scott said. "If magic can be used during the process, it's not that difficult."
Ravenclaw shook his head slightly. "This is the test for joining the Cult, and I suppose that child already went through it before enrolling. After all, you once said that her magic is extraordinary, and that she can already transform into a wolf, right?"
“I thought this kind of inherited magic was a family tradition,” Scott said.
He was truly surprised. "I never imagined that, at the end of the 20th century, such a tradition would still remain in the Druid tradition."
Compared to them, the magic of wizards is already quite advanced.
“To become a full-fledged druid priest, one must undergo a test known as ‘Triple Death,’” Ravenclaw added.
“Triple death?” Scott’s eyes widened slightly as he looked at the Ravenclaw in the painting.
He recalled that the result of his arithmetic divination for Savannah's brother Aaron was the same number [3].
This number told him that Aaron's body was asleep, his consciousness was in a state between sleep and wakefulness, but his mind was very active.
Could this be the result of the so-called "triple death" trial?
However, Savannah then said that her brother had disappeared earlier...
Of course, it's also possible that Savannah lied about this.
"Mentor, do you know the specifics of the 'Triple Death' trial?" Scott asked again, curious.
“Even I don’t know the specifics of the trial,” Ravenclaw said. “I told you before that druids were almost extinct a thousand years ago, and they were a very xenophobic group, but I never expected…”
She sighed as she said this, "I thought they had perished long ago."
Ravenclaw knew very little about Druids.
Scott had also asked her about the druids' shapeshifting abilities, specifically why druids could transform into more than one animal.
Ravenclaw only knew that it was related to the druids' special magic, but she didn't know how they made their magic so pure.
Since Ravenclaw didn't know much more about druids, their discussion about Savannah and druids ended there.
Scott's curiosity was not satisfied, but he had no choice but to put it aside.
As for Savannah, the little girl who clearly had feelings for him, Scott felt it would be a pity if she also fell into the same predicament of physical, mental, and spiritual separation as her brother, but that was all.
After the evening study session, Ravenclaw in the painting, perhaps out of concern, spoke with Scott about his situation.
As she said, as a mentor she couldn't and wouldn't give Scott direct help, but she could offer some advice.
“Perhaps you could talk to Dumbledore. He’s the headmaster, and you’re a student. He should protect you, and he will, and he’s certainly capable of doing so,” Ravenclaw said. “And you can focus more on your studies.”
Scott looked into Ravenclaw's wise eyes in the painting and couldn't believe she had really given such advice.
Of course, he could ask Ravenclaw directly, "Mentor, you said that if you were capable of protecting me yourself, you wouldn't provide me with protection. Why would you suggest that I seek protection from others?"
Ravenclaw smiled slightly. "If you can get Dumbledore to shelter you and grow up under his protection, that's a skill I'll acknowledge."
Scott looked at her with admiration, and at the same time sighed, "Truly worthy of being our eagle ancestor, to be able to say 'clinging to someone' in such a refined and elegant way, there's no one else like her."
But he still shook his head.
“You know what I’ve done,” he said to the tutor in the painting, “and Professor Dumbledore is a Gryffindor.”
