"Egyptian gods".
"Norse God."
"And the Greek gods."
When Diana heard about the Norse gods, she understood why Odin was a VIP at the Continental Hotel, but she never expected that a Greek god from this world would appear.
"What about the great power in the East?" Diana asked, temporarily suppressing her doubts.
“The High Table can’t enter that continent, and similarly, the gods on that continent seem to completely disdain such things.” Fisk never thought that the Dark Rail could appear there.
"Then, the Greek gods?" Diana finally asked the question that she most wanted to know right now.
“That’s why I’m confident I can enter the High Table and replace one of them, or even become the special thirteenth seat.” Fisk turned his gaze to Diana. “The four seats in the Greek pantheon haven’t received a response from the Greek gods for a long time, but…”
Fisk straightened up and looked down at Diana: "Diana, the day you appeared before me, I started looking into your file. I must say, the files SHIELD prepared were indeed flawless, but I still found a clue—a comic book character?"
Diana remained unmoved by Fisker's words.
“But I don’t care about those things. All I know is that you are a god, a Greek god.”
“Strictly speaking, I am a demigod,” Diana said to Fisk with a smile. She had a general idea of what Fisk meant; he simply wanted to use his Greek goddess status to deal with the high table.
“That doesn’t matter, as long as you are a Greek god, that’s enough,” Fisk said to Diana.
“What benefit would I get?” Diana didn’t hear anything that could possibly benefit her. “I might even have to confront two of the Old God systems over this, since nobody knows if they even care about this so-called High Table.”
Greek pantheon? They're all the same decadent, dissolute creatures in every universe, let alone claiming to be Greek demigods.
Norse mythology? Odin's son's treasure is still in his own hands.
Uh... it seems I was thrown into that little building that Tony Stark was about to demolish.
Only the ancient gods of India and Egypt might clash with him.
"Perhaps you can gain access to an intelligence organization comparable to S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as a large source of funding. And I can guarantee that wherever you go, there won't be any insects from the darkness bothering you."
“That’s not enough, Fisk. Far from enough. Those are two Old Gods. That’s far from enough.” Diana knew very well that if she stepped in, it would be extremely easy for Fisk to secure a place at the high table, but that wasn’t a good thing. “Besides, isn’t my life pretty good right now?”
Fisk fell silent; he knew perfectly well that these things were readily available to Diana.
“I don’t know what else can impress you, Diana,” Fisk said, shaking his head. “The only thing I know is what the High Table’s inspectors told me after our reckless expansion. Nobody knows what the High Table can do, or how much power it has.”
“I can only promise you one thing: whenever you need the High Table, no matter what happens, the High Table will be your most loyal subordinate,” Fisk said earnestly to Diana.
Diana stopped in her tracks; before her stood an ancient temple.
The Temple of Dendur, the largest and most prized possession in the museum, is the only complete ancient Egyptian temple outside of Egypt.
“I believe you, Fisk. At least our previous collaborations have been quite pleasant,” Diana said, facing the temple.
“I was actually quite lost when I came into this world. I didn’t have to worry about anything because this world has its own heroes, and they are enough to help this world overcome all difficulties. So for a long time, I had no goal. I just wanted to live as an ordinary person.” Diana said, raising her head.
His eyes, gazing toward the temple, were filled with blazing flames.
"I want to see if the gods of this world are just a bunch of drunken, revelrying trash, like my damned father."
"I've come to see if the gods of this world are true gods."
"So, Fisk..."
“I come to see the gods, you come to see the people.”
When Fisk first saw this woman, she no longer had that indifferent expression; instead, she displayed a strange excitement and fighting spirit.
“It’s a pleasure working with you, Diana.” Fisk extended his hand to Diana.
Diana smiled and took Fisker's hand.
"Pleasant to work with."
Chapter 47 Tony Stark Agrees to Join
"Looks like I'm quite an important person to you, aren't I?" Tony Stark raised his glass to Diana. "Want a drink?"
"No, I don't have a habit of drinking, or rather, I don't really like drinking," Diana said with a gentle smile.
But Tony could see something different in Diana's smile now, like the feeling of being truly alive.
"You know what? When I first saw you, I didn't really like you that much," Tony said, sitting down opposite Diana with a glass of wine in his hand.
Tony took a sip of his Old Malt Cask Laphroaig 17 Year Old Scotch Whisky and let out a long sigh of relief. This was what normal life was like.
Tony anticipated that Diana would ask him why he didn't like her, but that question never came.
A glance at Diana reveals that she very naturally asked Jarvis to prepare ice cream for her.
“Okay, okay.” Tony couldn’t hold back any longer. “Because back then you were like a lot of people who had lost their purpose in life, living entirely on instinct. At least now…” Tony looked Diana up and down. “At least I would consider you a complete person.”
"So what do you think of my suggestion?" The smile on Diana's lips never faded.
“Do you know what you’re doing?” Tony put down his glass and said to Diana, “You’re destroying the world’s understanding and telling them that God really exists! Do you know how much trouble this will cause?”
"So? What's your answer?" Diana didn't care about Tony Stark's so-called remarks at this moment. She only cared about one thing: whether Tony would join the plan.
Since reaching an agreement with Kingpin, Diana had already resigned from her job at the museum; that job was no longer important to her.
Tony Stark was the first person she wanted to recruit. Although he was arrogant, narcissistic, and unrealistic, he would be the best and most responsible teammate.
"Actually, S.H.I.E.L.D. contacted me too. They even came to my house the night I announced I was Iron Man." Tony leaned back on the sofa, arms outstretched. "They wanted me to join some Avengers program. Guess whether I agreed or not?"
Diana shook her head: "No, because you are Tony Stark."
"Then why are you so sure I'll join your organization that doesn't even have a name yet?" Tony looked at Diana with a provocative expression.
“Because you are Tony Stark.” Diana repeated the same phrase, as if she had Tony completely under her thumb.
"You're making me feel like you've got me figured out." Tony curled his lip in disdain. "You haven't even decided on a name yet, and you dare to come and recruit me? At least S.H.I.E.L.D. has the backing of the Security Council bigwigs. What do you have?"
“Me.” Diana pointed to herself.
Tony was speechless. Indeed, this woman didn't need any backing; she herself was enough to be a force to be reckoned with.
"Can you withstand a nuclear explosion?" Tony composed himself and said to Diana, "If you can't withstand a nuclear explosion, I don't think you can stand up to the bigwigs of the Security Council."
“We will not confront the Security Council, Tony.” Diana shook her head at him. “We are not the enemy of the Security Council, nor are we facing the Security Council.”
"As for your question, I can answer it."
Diana showed no aversion to Tony's questions, after all, Tony only knew about mutants and himself, and was completely unaware of the coming age of heroes.
Sometimes, measuring your comrade's muscles is undoubtedly the best solution.
"I can withstand a nuclear explosion, but only if the nuclear bomb can catch up with me," Diana said calmly, stating what Tony found most unbelievable.
"Oh shit!" Tony understood what this meant. All the most powerful weapons on Earth couldn't kill or subdue the woman in front of him, which meant that Diana could easily overthrow the regime of a major power if she wanted to.
Diana didn't think there was anything wrong with Tony's reaction. After all, the Batman had looked at her and Superman in the same way before, only he hadn't reacted as violently as Mr. Stark.
"This news really shocked me. Although I've seen in comics that you can easily survive nuclear radiation, that's a completely different concept from simply enduring it." Tony picked up the wine glass on the table and downed the rich liquid in one gulp.
“It seems you’ve found the key to a new world.” Diana didn’t respond to Tony’s words, but instead looked at the model display that Tony had placed to the side.
Tony naturally knew what Diana was talking about: "Yeah, I never thought I'd still get a lesson from my dead dad." As Tony said this, a warm smile appeared on his lips.
Perhaps it was because of his father's love, or perhaps it was something else, but at least now he no longer resents his father.
“I have to say, it’s really difficult to get my things back from S.H.I.E.L.D., but thankfully…” Tony shrugged, “Stark Industries is still a major taxpayer in America.”
Diana really wanted to roll her eyes. She had only told him about it two days ago, and he had already gotten his hands on the things his father left him in S.H.I.E.L.D. This was supposed to be difficult?
"Then congratulations on your upcoming rebirth," Diana said to Tony.
Tony simply smiled in response to Diana's words.
"Could you elaborate on the purpose of your organization?" Tony changed the subject.
“Defense, scrutiny, and counterattack; all the enemies we may encounter in the future; re-examine whether those long-lost gods have decayed.” Diana looked at Tony with earnest eyes. “Ensure this planet survives safely and peacefully.”
Tony looked into Diana's eyes and finally gave in.
"I have to say, Diana, you really have me figured out." Tony said, panting a few times.
Immediately afterwards, the Iron Man, the man who would one day carry the world on his shoulders, raised his head, his eyes filled with burning desire and excitement.
"Now that you mention it, I'm curious to see if my technology can rival the weapons of the gods!" Tony stood up. "I want to see why they can be called gods. Maybe one day I can be called the Iron God, hahaha."
So what's your answer?
“I’m in, Diana. But you should know I just want to see which is stronger, God or technology,” Tony said, sounding a bit stubborn.
"Then welcome, Tony." Diana wasn't going to dwell on what this arrogant guy said. She needed Tony, she needed his knowledge, she needed his wisdom. As for his money...
When Fisk stepped onto the high table, money would no longer be a problem for them in the future.
"So, what should we call it?" Tony brought up the question again.
In Tony's mind, the organization he joined couldn't possibly lack a catchy name; that would be beneath him, Tony Stark.
It can't be worse than that Avengers thing, right?
“I don’t want to be called the Justice League, that’s too silly.” Tony’s words ruthlessly thwarted Diana’s desire to reuse the Justice League name.
"Let me think about it," Diana said, rubbing her forehead, unable to come up with a good name for the moment.
What's wrong with the Justice League? It sounds like a righteous organization. Then think about the Avengers—it doesn't sound like a good name at all.
We can't really call them the "Super Seven."
Chapter 48 The Big Guys of New York City
"Let's celebrate." Tony poured Diana a glass of whiskey and was about to hand it to her when his phone rang.
"Oh, sorry. Looks like being the CEO of a big company always means there are things I need to do," Tony said to Diana with a smug grin, then answered the phone. "What happened?"
"Tony, are you with Diana?" A familiar voice came through the receiver to Tony's ears.
Tony glanced at Diana, who was heading towards the door to pick up the ice cream Jarvis had ordered for her, and said into the microphone, "Who are you? Have we met before?"
"I'm Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm asking you, is Diana with you?" Nick Fury said somewhat irritably. He was already annoyed when he was told that Tony had taken the things left behind by his father as soon as he returned to the agency.
Now, the military's major actions have left them in a state of utter chaos.
"OK, OK, don't rush. What's wrong? Just tell me." Tony originally wanted to hand the phone to Diana, but seeing the dangerous look in her eyes, he decided to listen himself.
