39. A transaction

"Huh? Quitting the company? Why?"

Fran almost spat out the candy in his mouth; his first reaction upon hearing the news was absolute shock.

Why quit when you're doing so well at the company?

Does Mr. Undying think he has earned enough money and wants to go back to his hometown to retire?

That's not right, I've never heard him mention anything about his hometown.

"He hasn't told me the specific reason yet; he just mentioned it to me briefly when the match ended."

Koss sighed. The game had gone so well today, but then this happened at the end of the game.

Just now, after the Undead finished playing a one-on-one Cavaliers game, the first thing the Undead said to Kos backstage was...

"I want to leave the company."

It took Kos a while to realize what "no one dies" meant.

Why so suddenly?

Koss caught up with the Undead and followed his steps for quite a distance.

"Do you feel the company's contracts are inadequate? Or do you think the current competitors are not challenging enough?"

The Undead didn't speak, but he turned and glanced at Kos, signaling him to shut up with his eyes.

He then spoke.

"Come to my house later, and I'll talk to you."

After saying that, the immortal got into the car.

Koss could only get into the driver's seat and drive the Undead home.

After he returned to the company and reported that the match had gone smoothly without any problems, he picked up Fran and they went to the Undead's house together.

The atmosphere between the two in the car became awkward for a moment.

Fran couldn't understand why no one wanted to leave the company, while Kos had some guesses of his own, but he wasn't sure if they were accurate.

"What is the old man thinking? He can tell the company what his requirements are. There's no need for him to make a decision so quickly."

Fran curled his lip. Whether the undead leave or not will involve too many things, not just his personal concerns.

To put it bluntly, the question of whether or not the "non-death" personnel should leave will have an impact not only on the company's senior management but also on the two key personnel responsible for preventing deaths.

Their wages will be reduced, and they will return to their original benefits at the company.

Although the bonuses I've received recently are equivalent to two or three years' salary, I still hope this kind of good thing can continue.

"Fran, you need to calm down."

After calmly considering the matter, Koss frowned.

Kos could see what Fran was thinking; in fact, Kos himself didn't want to let go of the Undead, this cash cow.

After all, not long ago, Koss had been referring to the Undead as the "Money Tree Knight."

But after spending so much time together, Kos still felt that the Undead were actually quite easy to get along with as knights.

He doesn't usually have any bad habits, so he doesn't need them to help him wipe his bottom.

Besides preferring to stay at home, he's not very talkative and needs Koss and Fran to smooth things over.

Another issue was that buying firewood really required Kos to run around the entire city's timber market.

But aside from these, there's nothing else the Undead need the two of them to help with.

He stays at home all day, and you can find him anytime you want. He never refuses to participate in competitions and always wins.

Moreover, the Undead's attitude towards Kos and Fran was not bad; it was actually quite friendly.

"Originally, finding the old man to come back and replace Fang Tou was already a stroke of good luck for us."

Kos lit a cigarette and waited for the red light while smoking.

"Besides, the old man has always treated us well. Apart from carrying firewood, he hasn't caused us any other trouble. Since he has given us a good life, we shouldn't pressure him. Let's part ways amicably."

"The problem isn't with us, boss."

Fran wore a bitter expression; even the candy in his mouth didn't taste sweet anymore.

“I know the old man has treated us well, but he can’t control what the company is thinking. If he really runs away with such a good cash cow, wouldn’t the company be in an uproar? We’d all suffer in the process.”

Koss stopped talking. He took a drag of his cigarette, swirled the smoke in his mouth for a while, and then exhaled it.

Fran hit the nail on the head, and Kos understood that the most uncomfortable ones were probably those caught in the middle.

"In short, since the old man told us to go to his house first, let's go and see what's going on and find out what happened."

Koss took two puffs, found it tasteless, and stuck the cigarette in the extinguisher in the car.

The two men's vehicle soon entered the streets inhabited by the undead.

When Kos entered the Undead House, he also saw a pizza box on top of the trash can.

The two got out of the car and immediately heard the sounds of fighting coming from the Undead's room.

Ding!Ding!Ding!

Accompanied by the girl's shouts, the sounds of soldiers fighting filled the air.

"Are you teaching an apprentice?"

Fran threw the pizza box and the candy wrappers he had eaten in the car into the trash can, then clapped his hands and turned to look at Kos.

"Yes, we should go in slowly."

Koss opened the door with his fingerprint and beckoned Fran to come inside.

As soon as the two entered, they saw a figure dodging left and right.

Little Maria, wielding her iron rod, circled around the Undead, searching for an opportunity to attack.

While defending, the Undead also launched an attack on Maria, swinging their weapons once every two seconds.

"Faster, faster!"

The undead urged her on with words, and Maria adjusted her breathing as she moved closer to the undead. After blocking the attack with the iron rod in her hand, she looked for an opening in the undead to counterattack.

Unfortunately, Maria's attacks were largely ineffective. To the undead, her attacks were as conspicuous as a light in the darkness.

However, the Undead did not correct her. This was Maria's first week of practicing offense, and she was also looking for opportunities through the gaps in the Undead's attacks.

Maria has to figure that out for herself and find the opportunity she can seize.

Ding!

Another sound of iron rods clashing rang out. After Maria blocked an undead attack with her iron rod, she saw the undead's wide-open chest and her eyes widened in surprise.

"Chance!"

Maria deftly deflected the tip of her staff, took another step forward with her right foot, and thrust the long staff in her hand towards the undead's seemingly undefended chest.

Unfortunately, Maria neglected her defense while attacking, and her step forward completely exposed her chest.

The Undead slightly turned his body to dodge Maria's thrust, then gently raised his staff and tapped Maria's forearm.

boom!

"hiss!"

Maria's arm was tapped, and she couldn't help but take a deep breath and step back.

Having been hit by the Undead, this round of sparring has come to an end.

Even after little Maria's arm was tapped, she showed no intention of loosening her grip on the iron rod.

"Pay attention to offense. If you can't, give up and defend."

The Undead pointed out Maria's mistakes in this round.

Maria listened, and she herself took out the portable staff hidden in her bosom with her right hand, and then softly murmured a miracle.

A white light shone from his left hand and was placed on his right arm.

A few seconds later, the redness and swelling on his right arm disappeared.

"very good."

The Undead nodded in approval; he had indeed witnessed Maria's use of her miracle talent.

It was very difficult to use the slightly smaller recovery at the beginning. Now I can use recovery effortlessly, and I've even started trying to use the larger recovery.

"Teacher, I still don't quite understand the principle behind the life force surge you taught me last time."

Maria bowed her head, humbly seeking guidance from the undead.

"Sit down and speak slowly."

The undead man approached the campfire and patted the floor beside him.

Maria leaned closer, listening as the undead recounted the legendary tale to her once more, while watching the undead raise his hand and unleash a white light.

As he was talking, the Undead Man casually picked out a piece of firewood from the pile of firewood next to him and threw it into the fire.

Kos and Fran, in the corner, listened quietly to the undead telling Maria the key points.

Feeling the warmth of the room, Kos couldn't help but sigh.

If only these days could last forever.

As long as no one dies and no one leaves the company, he and Fran don't need to worry about the reaction from the company's higher-ups.

The immortal doesn't need to worry about running out of firewood, and can continue teaching his students here indefinitely.

The two sat around the fire, a testament to the passing down of knightly traditions...

"Okay, I understand, I will continue to work hard!"

Maria stood up, bowed to the undead, and then obediently placed the two iron rods in the corner.

"Heh... Maria and I will be leaving now. If you need anything, feel free to come find us at the tavern I told you about last time."

Zofia stood up from the campfire and stretched; she had almost fallen asleep by the fire.
