"...How did you know?"

"These things are easy to figure out with just a little effort," Kal'tsit said calmly.

"And Hemer too..."

“The person who understands Ifrit best in this world is Himer,” Kal'tsit said. “A large portion of the LMD here was given by Himer; otherwise, your salary wouldn’t be this much. After all, you’re helping her take care of Ifrit. If you had to pay out of your own pocket, it would seem like Rhodes Island is too heartless. Count it and see if anything is missing.”

Lin Ye smiled, took the envelope, and shook his head: "There's no need to count it."

“Yes. But there’s something Himeru asked me to tell you.” Kal’tsit looked at Lin Ye. “Heru said, this is a one-time thing.”

"what?"

“Ifrit is a rather difficult child to manage. She needs discipline, but she also needs relaxation, but she absolutely does not need to be indulged,” Kal'tsit said. “So next time something like this happens, Himer won’t reimburse you. She didn’t approve of Ifrit touching these things in the first place; this time it was just because she didn’t keep an eye on Ifrit.”

Lin Ye didn't know how to respond.

“That’s about it.” Kal’tsit picked up her coffee cup, took a sip of the bitter black coffee, her brows furrowing slightly, but quickly relaxing. “Actually, compared to these trivial matters, I’d rather study your talent. If Nightingale’s trust in you is an exception, then Ifrit’s couldn’t be a coincidence. Although you might not realize it, Ifrit is actually a very exclusive child, and her personality is somewhat crazy. So apart from a handful of people, very few can get close to her. Even I spent some time, and that was with Himer’s help. But you only took an afternoon… to be precise, two hours and eleven minutes, to gain her trust. Your talent is truly incredible.”

Lin Ye remained silent, only thinking to himself.

Is it really not because I paid for her?

“If I had the time, I would really like to have a good talk with you.” Kal’tsit looked a little tired. “But I have so many things on my plate right now that it’s giving me a real headache.”

"Did you also stay up all night?" Lin Ye asked.

"More or less," Kal'tsit said calmly. "So I plan to settle some things before I go to sleep. I'll probably be going out after I get up."

Lin Ye casually asked, "Where to?"

After asking, I felt a little bad: "Should I not have asked?"

"Whatever. I'm telling you it's not that I can't, but it's unnecessary because it's none of your business." Kal'tsit looked at Lin Ye. "This is an unexpected situation, and it's also coincided with Lungmen's request. I'm leaving Lungmen this afternoon, and tonight, the 'goods' that Lungmen needs us to transport will arrive here, and then our people should set off."

Lin Ye nodded.

“It seems you haven’t realized it yet, so I’ll just tell you directly,” Kal’tsit said. “Hime will be joining the team transporting this ‘cargo’ as a medical operator, and I need to temporarily leave Lungmen due to some very troublesome matters.”

Lin Ye frowned.

I have a bad feeling about this.

“So to put it simply,” Kal’tsit took another sip of coffee, “while Hammer and I are away, I’m leaving Ifrit and Nightingale in your care.”

Lin Ye: "..."

"What?" Kal'tsit raised an eyebrow. "Is there a problem?"

Lin Ye took a deep breath.

"No, no. You just dumped Ifrit and Nightingale on me?!"

Lin Ye simply didn't know what words to use to describe his feelings. Was this a great responsibility that Heaven was about to bestow upon him?

"You're all leaving?!"

“Of course not.” Kal’tsit tapped the table lightly, somewhat displeased, and said, “We will leave a few operators behind to protect your safety. Although you don’t need to worry about safety in Lungmen, this is the territory of the Guard Bureau. It is said that you are to take care of Ifrit and Nightingale, but those two kids are just a bit eccentric, not patients who cannot take care of themselves.”

Lin Ye thought about it and felt that it made sense. Besides, there were other people left behind, so he wasn't the only one taking care of the two demons. He breathed a sigh of relief.

"What Hammer means is that if Ifrit might cause some trouble without her here, so he hopes you can keep her in check. As for Nightingale, there shouldn't be anything to worry about."

"Too."

"Just in case that happens." Kal'tsit tore off a sticky note, scribbled a number on it, and handed it to Lin Ye. "Just call this number."

Lin Ye took it.

"Alright, I'm going to sleep now," Kal'tsit said. "You can leave now, it's fine if you go back to sleep for a while."

Lin Ye nodded, and just as he was about to leave, he suddenly remembered something and turned to look at Kal'tsit: "By the way, that thing you gave Nightingale yesterday..."

"Hmm? Are you interested in that?"

"if you can……"

Kal'tsit was silent for a moment, then said, "It's just a potion that can turn her back into herself for a short time."

Lin Ye didn't understand what Kal'tsit meant, but Kal'tsit wasn't willing to say anything more, so he could only leave.

Chapter Fifty-Three Unexpected Changes

I took a nap, and when I woke up I found it was already dark.

Lin Ye didn't know why he was able to sleep for so long. Perhaps it was because the grinding of teeth in the room had finally stopped, and the person sleeping in the next bed was no longer a lizardman, so he felt a long-lost sense of peace. However, when he woke up, he still found a white figure sitting at the foot of the bed, making grunting noises.

"Nightingale?" Lin Ye asked tentatively.

The gurgling sounds ceased, and the nightingale turned its head, its mouth covered in biscuit crumbs.

Lin Ye sighed: "How did you get here?"

“We came by walking,” the nightingale replied.

"I mean... how did you get in?"

"You came in after opening the door." Nightingale looked at Lin Ye with an expression as if he were an idiot, as if to say, "Is this even a problem?"

Lin Ye didn't want to ask any more questions. He noticed that there was nothing left on the bed next door, which meant that the Ranger had left with his luggage. He probably hadn't locked the door before leaving, so Nightingale was able to push it open and come in.

"What time is it?" Lin Ye sat up.

The nightingale shook her head: "I don't know."

"...Has Dr. Kal'tsit already left?"

The nightingale nodded.

Lin Ye sighed, rubbing his forehead.

It seemed he had slept long enough and couldn't sleep any longer, or his biological clock would be messed up. So he got up, washed up a bit, wiped the cookie crumbs off Nightingale's mouth, and took Nightingale out.

Feeling an empty stomach, Lin Ye rubbed it and asked Nightingale, "Are you hungry?"

Nightingale nodded: "I want to eat pineapple buns."

"This kind of thing isn't sold here."

"I want to eat tiramisu."

"You finally remembered all the food except for pineapple buns! That's impressive. By the way, do you remember my name?"

"Pineapple Bun."

Lin Ye glanced sideways at Nightingale, whose expression remained unchanged; he wondered if she was doing it on purpose.

As the two descended the stairs, they saw the Rhodes Island team, fully armed and ready to depart, along with the Lungmen Guard Bureau escorting the cargo. Lin Ye spotted the officer surnamed Chen among them; she was speaking with a ranger, her expression quite serious. Behind them was a black armored vehicle, presumably the "cargo" Rhodes Island needed to transport—the infected individuals required by the Ursus Empire.

Lin Ye was actually quite curious about what kind of infected person would alarm the vast empire of Ursus.

Of course, while he was curious, Lin Ye had no intention of getting close.

"It seems you've had a good rest," a mature female voice sounded behind Lin Ye.

Lin Ye turned his head and saw that it was Hermer.

“Kal'tsit already told you, right? I’ll be leaving Ifrit in your care while I’m gone,” Himer said. “That child has a difficult personality, so I hope you can take good care of her.”

"Don't worry, I think Ifrit is a very well-behaved child."

That's just a polite remark.

Lin Ye was naturally hoping that this unlucky kid would cause him less trouble.

After hearing Lin Ye's words, Nightingale looked up at him, seemingly lost in thought, before quickly looking down again.

There's an ant on the ground, step on it and kill it.

The demons began to kill.

"When are you leaving?" Lin Ye asked Hemo.

“Almost there,” Hamer replied. “Everything is ready.”

"Wow, a lot of people from the Guard Bureau came. Aren't they going with you?"

“Of course, after all, this task has been entrusted to us.” Himer turned to look at the armored vehicle outside. “Rhodes Island is quite experienced in transporting goods, or rather… escorting prisoners. The Lungmen Guard’s duty is simply to guard Lungmen.”

The prisoners are being transported; it seems Rhodes Island already knows the contents of the "goods."

While Lin Ye and Hermer were talking, several members of the Guard Bureau walked past them.

"What's going on with these people?" Lin Ye asked, somewhat puzzled.

“The Lungmen Guard Bureau isn’t just here tonight to exchange ‘goods’ with us,” Himer said calmly. “They purchased a batch of medicine on Rhodes Island, and tonight is the delivery day. They’re here to move the medicine.”

Lin Ye responded with an "oh," without asking any further questions, but simply glanced back at the Guard Bureau agent who had entered the elevator.

Ok?

Lin Ye frowned.

He noticed that one of the Guardian agents seemed to walk unnaturally, as if his leg was injured.

Does a cripple still have to carry goods?

He thought this, then looked up along his legs. However, the Guards were all dressed very conservatively, with no part of their bodies exposed.

The elevator doors slowly closed.

“Alright, we should go,” Himer said. “I’m leaving Ifrit in your care. She’s probably still sleeping in her room; she’s not exactly an easy child to deal with.”

Lin Ye nodded. Hermer then left, and the Rhodes Island team took over the riot control vehicle. Lin Ye also heard Commander Chen radio the SS vehicle to escort them out of the city, and then he himself left by car.

Soon, only a few Guard Bureau members carrying goods and a few Rhodes Island operators remaining in the building.

Looks like I can have a room to myself tonight.

As Lin Ye thought this, he suddenly realized that life was still quite beautiful.

Then he took Nightingale out to eat. As mentioned before, Lungmen is a very developed city, and its catering industry is no exception, even offering food from the East. Lin Ye was overjoyed. After entering the restaurant, he coaxed and tricked Nightingale into eating two sprigs of cilantro, successfully earning the achievement "Nightingale's Eye Roll," which lowered her favorability rating. As a result, when they returned, Nightingale's eyes were murderous, ignoring Lin Ye's attempts to please her.

When they returned to the building, the Lungmen Guard Bureau personnel were still there, probably because they had a lot of medicine to move. Lin Ye didn't want to go back to his room to sleep so early, and his homebody nature wouldn't allow him to go shopping. So, he took Nightingale and wandered around until they reached the top floor of the building. From there, they could see the bright moon through the tempered glass, and looking down, they could see Lungmen under the moonlight.

Perhaps influenced by the atmosphere, Nightingale's expression softened considerably, and she was no longer as angry as she had been when she first ate the cilantro.
