People often think of their hometown when they see the moon.
Lin Ye was no exception. He sat beside Nightingale and suddenly felt like reciting a poem, wanting Nightingale to know that although he was a veterinarian, he was still quite talented.
However, he then thought that this seemed somewhat shameful, and that the nightingale might not even understand, so he began to struggle with the decision.
In his moment of confusion, he saw a black helicopter slowly take off, its orange searchlight shining into the building and dispelling the darkness on the top floor.
"What's going on?" In the bright light, Lin Ye and Nightingale both covered their eyes, but Lin Ye still spotted the Lungmen Guard Bureau's insignia on the tail of the plane and muttered, "Do these guys have to fly planes to transport medicine? Lungmen is too rich."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Nightingale suddenly grabbed his wrist.
"Hmm?" Lin Ye turned to look at Nightingale and found that Nightingale's face was not good, and her beautiful pupils were filled with fear.
Before he could ask what was wrong, the searchlight moved away. Lin Ye subconsciously turned his head to look at the helicopter's cockpit, then opened his mouth wide in surprise.
The driver in the driver's seat... had no head.
The next second, the helicopter's tailspin crashed into the tempered glass of the top floor. In that instant, all the glass shattered. The broken glass shards were swept up by the powerful airflow and poured into the top floor like snowflakes.
Lin Ye immediately pinned Nightingale down beneath him.
In an instant, his back was cut open with more than ten gashes!
Author's Note (Playing the victim)
Alright, it's time for my ever-popular sob story. Today's the day for the Arknights update event, and judging from the complaints in the last two chapters, most people are probably grinding the event. So, I'll sneakily post a sob story, but first, I wish everyone good luck with their drops!
This book will be available tomorrow, exactly one month since I started writing it. This period has been quite agonizing for me. Although I tried my best not to let the drama spill over into the book's online posts, quite a few people still found out. First of all, I apologize. Because I rushed the book's release, I didn't pay attention to all the Arknights settings, and due to its popularity, I instantly found myself in the eye of the storm. Although I issued a statement about the significant changes in the second chapter, it still wasn't accepted by some people, so I apologize again.
Secondly, the plot of this book had quite a few twists and turns during its free period, which deterred many readers. The main issues were Nightingale's entry into the Dragon Gate and Melantha's character deterioration. These were indeed things I didn't handle well, and I apologize again. But I also want to explain that I was incredibly busy during this period. My lease expired, so I was looking for, viewing, and moving. In between, I also had to participate in a very tight event in another city. Due to the requirements there, I visited seven or eight tourist attractions and attended two or three meetings in two days. By the time I got back to the hotel, it was very late, and even though I was exhausted, I had to get up and write. After those two days, I moved again. Because it was the new book's release period, updates couldn't be interrupted, so I really felt like I couldn't keep going during those days, which prevented me from properly studying the plot and character development. (Of course, this is not an excuse, so I apologize for that.)
Thirdly, there's the issue of riding the coattails of popularity. I don't deny that; without the popularity of Arknights, this book wouldn't have achieved its current success. But I want to say that I'm not a casual player; I started playing during the third closed beta, and when Shining was released during the open beta, I decided to write this. At the time, I thought this book's success would be similar to Zero (my previous brothel fanfic), but I didn't expect it to be so much better, nor did I expect it to provoke so much backlash from fans of the original setting. Because I simply used the same methods I used to write Zero to write this book, and Girls' Frontline players didn't seem to have any aversion to my Zero. Perhaps I was presumptuous, assuming that Arknights readers would react the same way as Girls' Frontline readers, so I apologize again.
After apologizing three times, let me ramble on about a few other things.
First of all, I still cannot tolerate those readers who launch personal attacks against me. In fact, many readers can see that the number of abusive comments about me in the book review section is definitely not small. Some people have been there for a whole month, and whenever a comment is posted by one of my fans, the first thing they do is downvote, followed by cold remarks, and a few even resort to vicious insults. There are also a few people who pretend to be "fair," outwardly posting impartial opinions while secretly bumping up posts that insult me and stir up trouble.
It's wrong to verbally abuse people, but double standards are acceptable. Anyone who insults me is labeled "angry old man, angry old man," but if my fans get emotional and hurl insults, they're called "defenders of the author, NMSL" or similar phrases. I won't name names or call anyone out here; many people know the truth. I deleted a batch of comments that personally attacked me, and immediately people started accusing me of "controlling the comments." So for the next month, I didn't dare to post anything, letting the insults, mockery, and attempts to stir up trouble run rampant in my book review section. I didn't ban or delete anything, thinking I'd just have to take the hits.
But now, I'm not willing to put up with it anymore. Because they've hurt my other readers. One of my author friends said something in my defense, and they've been relentlessly attacking and criticizing him, even going so far as to dislike all of his posts.
Secondly, the number of Arknights fanfiction works on Shuke (a Chinese online literature platform) isn't just mine; it's an astonishingly high figure—over a hundred. Within a month of Arknights' public beta launch, over a hundred fanfiction works appeared on Shuke. I've read them all, and not all, but the vast majority, don't meet many people's expectations of me. Yet, I'm the only one being insulted and targeted. The others, even those who portray operators' personalities as XXX, even those who portray characters as invincible in the Arknights world, haven't been criticized. They wrote because of their passion, while I'm just shamelessly trying to ride the wave of popularity.
I've had enough. I let all the comments in the book review section run rampant for a whole month, taking the hits alone while other Arknights fanfiction sprang up like mushrooms after rain. Now I'm not willing to do that anymore, so I've deleted and banned all the readers who were cursing me or stirring up trouble. There might have been some deleted by mistake, but I don't care anymore. I'm willing to be the author you call "malicious comment control," and I won't accept any comments that mock me.
A reader once pointed at me and cursed, saying that the popularity of Arknights is so high that even a pig could write it. Now I want to see if that's true.
……
……
He continued grumbling to himself, then apologized to everyone, saying that he had been holding back for too long this past month. Now that he was about to release the book, there was a surge in Arknights fanfiction, so he couldn't help but ramble on a bit, and he apologized again for any impact on the reading experience.
The VIP chapter is finished. I have plans to see the premiere of "Godzilla 2" tonight, so I might not be able to sleep until very late. However, I'll set an alarm to post it tomorrow, around 10 AM. As for the bonus chapter that everyone's been asking about, it should be posted the day after tomorrow, June 1st.
I hope those who like this book will support it!
By the way, to clarify something: those who said I've never even played the game, I originally wanted to post my operator information, but I was afraid it would upset too many people, so I'll refrain. Instead, I'll post my ID instead. Feel free to check it out if you're interested, but my friend list is full.

I have Skadi.
Is there something wrong with how you're approaching Chapter 54?
Lin Ye didn't know why, but the way he was opening it was a bit wrong.
A beautiful night, a beautiful moon, and a beautiful girl beside me... a devil. Logically, I should have finished dinner, admired the moon, and recited poetry. But then... nothing happened. Before I could even recite the poem, the plane crashed.
No, to be precise, it "crashed" in.
The high-speed propeller, like a sharp blade, sliced through everything inside the tempered glass, striking the marble floor and sending up golden sparks. It was eventually broken by the harder ground, and the fragments flew like knives, shattering the beautiful night.
The helicopter was spinning around like a rampaging steel beast.
Already injured, Lin Ye had to endure the pain and pull Nightingale up, trying to avoid the dangerous area.
Fortunately, the helicopter was small and didn't have much kinetic energy. After crashing into the top floor, it only moved four or five meters before stopping, with thick black smoke billowing out of the helicopter.
"What the hell..." Lin Ye couldn't run anymore. He let go of Nightingale, gritted his teeth, and pulled a palm-sized piece of tempered glass from the flesh on his back.
Fresh blood gushed out like a spring.
Nightingale's eyes were filled with panic and fear: "Pineapple Bun...you're hurt."
She wanted to heal Lin Ye, but when she raised her staff, she couldn't recite the incantation. Her body trembled involuntarily, as if she were recalling some terrifying past.
Seeing this, Lin Ye finally understood why Nightingale had failed the test, but at this moment he had no time to think about such things.
The plane crash was not an accident, because Lin Ye clearly saw that the pilot's head was gone!
Even a fool could see that a headless pilot couldn't have flown the helicopter to this position, so there's only one answer.
Then came a slight scraping sound, like fingernails scratching a blackboard, coming from outside the building. Lin Ye looked in the direction of the sound and saw more than a dozen dark figures rappelling down from the top floor. Their movements were swift, clearly indicating professional training. The closest one was less than ten meters away from Lin Ye, and he could clearly see the white masks on their faces and the black crossbows on their backs, the arrows reflecting the moonlight and carrying a cold, chilling aura.
"Run!" Lin Ye immediately pulled Nightingale downstairs.
No matter where these guys came from or what they're up to, their appearance in this way is definitely not meant to be a hot pot dinner!
Actually, Lin Ye would have preferred to take the elevator rather than the stairs; it was closer and conveniently located on the top floor. But instinct made him pull Nightingale past the elevator and run towards the emergency exit. A few seconds later, Lin Ye's premonition was confirmed: the elevator suddenly exploded, the blast wave carrying flames easily pushing open the heavy elevator doors. The sudden heat nearly destroyed Lin Ye's clothes.
The attackers, rappelling down, spotted Lin Ye and Nightingale and immediately gave chase, firing crossbow bolts. The whistling of arrows made Lin Ye think he was about to die several times, but luckily he was fortunate, or perhaps the attackers' marksmanship wasn't very good. He successfully led Nightingale into the safety passage and then ran downstairs like a madman.
Soon, he saw the Lungmen Guard Bureau personnel.
"What's going on?!" The Lungmen Guards officers, upon seeing Lin Ye and Nightingale, immediately demanded, "What happened up there?!"
Before Lin Ye could answer, an axe swept across the head of the Guard Bureau officer. In less than a second, both heads fell cleanly to the ground.
A large, fat man emerged from the shadows, his entire body wrapped in a heavy protective suit, his axe still stained with blood.
"Damn it!" Lin Ye, who hadn't even caught his breath, had no choice but to pull Nightingale along and keep running.
However, after running down two floors, he couldn't run anymore.
It wasn't that he couldn't run, but that Nightingale couldn't run anymore. Nightingale's legs had always had some problems, and although they had recovered considerably recently, she still walked much slower than others. However, Lin Ye hadn't noticed this at all when he was pulling her along, until Nightingale had lost her boots and her ankles were swollen like buns. He didn't realize it until then. But he didn't have any good options, because another masked man with a knife was chasing after them.
Can't run away.
Lin Ye immediately pulled Nightingale behind him and faced the attacker alone. He took a deep breath and assumed a fighting stance.
In his previous life, he was a martial artist who earned countless honors during his twenty-year career.
In the third grade of elementary school, I won the third prize in the "XX City Primary and Secondary School Students' Radio Gymnastics Group Competition".
He was promoted to blue belt in Taekwondo in the fourth grade of elementary school.
In my third year of junior high school, I participated in a marathon in the city and ran three kilometers, winning an "Encouragement Award".
And an honorary member of the "Come to the Fitness Center" gym during my university years.
Years of martial arts experience taught Lin Ye that he must have an aura of dominance in battle!
"Drink!"
He shouted it out loud, and the masked man with the knife was stunned for a moment, clearly not expecting that this seemingly frail white-clad beast would have such courage.
then.
While the masked man was stunned, Lin Ye pulled out the python and shot him dead.
At that distance, it was impossible to miss. The masked man with the knife slowly collapsed to the ground in shock and resentment. If he hadn't been wearing a mask, Lin Ye would have seen his incredible expression. Of course, he didn't care. Years of martial arts experience had taught him one thing: if you can fire a gun, don't talk nonsense. Fists and kicks are nowhere near as effective as guns! Especially since guns are extremely rare in this world, they are even more useful.
However, it was unrealistic to expect to eliminate all the intruders with just a python. In this situation, the crossbows were no more difficult to use than his gun. Continuing to run was also not an option; Nightingale couldn't go far in her current state and would soon be caught. With countless intruders lurking in the building, running around recklessly would easily lead to them running into enemies. So Lin Ye pulled Nightingale along and hid in one of the rooms.
"Don't be afraid," Lin Ye comforted Nightingale, who was trembling with fear, and said softly, "I'll call someone to come and save us right away."
So Lin Ye held the gun in one hand and took out his phone in the other.
The building housed not only the Guard Bureau but also Rhodes Island operators. Lin Ye didn't want to rely on the Guard Bureau at this point; it was better to directly tell the Rhodes Island operators their location.
Thinking this, Lin Ye dialed the number Kal'tsit had given him that morning.
If nothing unexpected happens, this is Rhode Island's phone number.
But to his surprise, the number was answered immediately after he dialed it, and a clear and energetic female voice rang out.
"Ding, welcome to 'Penguin Logistics'. For food delivery, press 1; for cargo delivery, press 2; for transporting prohibited items, please pay extra; to file a complaint, please hang up..."
Lin Ye was stunned.
Author's BB:
I'll post one chapter first, and then open the bounty tomorrow.
Chapter 55 What are all these people doing, crowding into my room?
Lin Ye thought he had dialed the wrong number, so he quickly covered the receiver and then took out the note Kal'tsit had given him to check it again.
That's right!
What's with this voice message?! Is Kal'tsit telling him to contact a food delivery company if he's having trouble? No, wait, isn't this a courier company?!
Did those two people run away?
"No, it shouldn't be fast. They might be on this floor."
"Then let's get moving and finish the mission before the Guard Bureau returns! A few of you stay behind to find those two brats, the rest of you come with me!"
A rough male voice boomed like thunder in the middle of the corridor, followed by heavy, rapid footsteps. Lin Ye could tell that many of the attackers had gone downstairs, but some remained on this floor, intending to find him and Nightingale.
This is infuriating! He's just a junior psychologist, why should he have to endure pressure that his profession shouldn't require?
Lin Ye endured the pain in his back, pulled Nightingale under the desk, and then put the receiver to his ear again.
In his opinion, Kal'tsit was probably one of the more reliable people on Rhodes Island, so there was no reason for her to give him the contact information of some random logistics company. Therefore, he decided to listen for now. After all, he didn't have anyone else's contact information… so why didn't Kal'tsit just give him her own phone number?
The system notification's cheerful female voice continued leisurely: "To celebrate the XXth anniversary of 'Penguin Logistics,' we've decided to offer a 12% discount coupon to both new and existing customers. Simply use this coupon to receive a used rice cooker..."
