Chapter 33, Section 141: Doctor, even you make mistakes sometimes.
After Ceylon's vague explanation, everyone finally understood that this was a clever idea Qin Duanyu came up with to distract the bodyguards and escape when she was surrounded in her office.
"So that imposter disguised as Miss was your idea too! I knew Miss was so kind and innocent, how could she come up with such monstrosities?" Hei said viciously. "Remember this, if you ever slander Miss's innocence again, watch out for my crossbow. Miss may have a kind heart, but I don't!"
I thought he was a nice guy when we first started drinking together, the kind and gentle type. I never expected him to be such a wicked person, leading the young lady to do such dangerous things. If it weren't for the fact that his intention was to protect Siesta, I would have definitely beaten this guy to a pulp today.
"Doctor, please, please stop thinking up these crazy ideas! My heart can't take it!" ACE felt like he was on a rollercoaster, experiencing extreme highs and lows.
As for Kronin and his group, after discovering that their greatest asset had turned against them, they lost the courage to resist. They fought their way back to their car and sped off towards the south of the city.
"Oh no, they're going to the docks!" Ceylon said, frowning.
The most convenient way to leave Siesta is undoubtedly by sea; even most of the city's supplies are transported in by cargo ships.
"Oh, that's alright then." Qin Duanyu calmed down upon hearing this.
Everyone could tell at a glance that this guy must have been plotting something again. After getting into the car, he followed Kronin's convoy at a distance, and even watched the fireworks that enhanced the atmosphere of the party.
……
"Commander, mission accomplished!"
“Very good, you can return to the docks as planned!” The mercenary leader put down the communicator and asked, puzzled, “Mr. Kronin, why did you blow up all the roads and bridges leading out of the city?”
“Foolish. Now we’ve cut off all roads out of the city. When the natural disaster strikes, we’ll sail over. How much do you think those rich people will spend to save their lives?” Kronin asked with a smile, a strange light gleaming in his eyes. “Not just cruise ships, all ships capable of long voyages will be under my control. We can hold an auction for seats and have everyone compete for them. That would be more interesting.”
"Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!" The Ursus man slapped his forehead. No wonder he was only fit to do hard labor and risk his life, while Kronin, a guy with mediocre strength, could order him around. Just his cunning was something he knew he could never learn in his lifetime.
As for why they were still treated like dogs even though such a person was leading them, that was clearly beyond his comprehension.
A dozen minutes later, the convoy drove smoothly into the dock, and Kronen and his entourage practically rushed into the berthing area, heading straight for a luxury cruise ship.
No matter how many signal lights they used, the cruise ship never lowered its ladder.
"What's going on? Did they fall asleep while they were being lazy?" Seeing that Qin Duanyu and the others had caught up, the mercenary leader cursed angrily and prepared to send someone to take a small boat to check.
"Sir, you guessed right, they really are asleep!" a mocking voice said.
The group looked in the direction of the sound and saw a red-haired Sarkaz girl carrying a pitchfork. Behind her was a group of bound bodyguards, who were the men Kronin had sent in advance to guard the ship.
"Who are you? Why are you attacking Siesta's government staff? This is an invasion!"
“Red Bean, Rhodes Island Vanguard Operator, I’m sorry, but according to the information from the Doctor, you have been regarded as traitors to Siesta. As partners, we have a responsibility to help capture you.”
Rhodes Island, it's Rhodes Island again! What's with all this trouble from this drug company?! Upon hearing this, Kronin's face turned green with anger.
"I forgot to mention, quite a few of our company's agents are on vacation here. Guess why I only brought a few people? Did you really think a truckload of bread-like people was a joke?" Qin Duanyu, who had caught up with Hongdou, nodded and said with a smile, "A stupid and wicked guy like you must be extremely afraid of death. You must have already prepared an escape route, so I just sent some people to guard all the places you might be able to leave the city."
During that afternoon, Qin Duanyu wasn't just using Ceylon to scheme against Black. He called several unattended agents and deployed them in advance to places where Cronin might escape. Once Ceylon had finalized the contract, he would launch an attack on Cronin's people.
However, it seems that Kronin only prepared an escape route by sea, and among the operators, only Red Bean had a chance to stretch her muscles.
"Ha, what a clever scheme, Rhodes Island Doctor." Kronin gritted his teeth, his face full of resentment.
“Kronin, you deliberately tampered with volcano monitoring data and falsely accused Miss of spreading rumors. This is no small crime. Surrender now.” Black stepped forward and said coldly.
“Crimes? Black, what you’ve done all these years, isn’t it more serious than mine?” Kronin retorted. “Ceylan probably doesn’t know about all the despicable things you’ve done for Herman all these years. Should I tell her everything?”
“You…” His dark pupils contracted slightly, and he subconsciously looked at Ceylon.
"If you know anything, just say it. It would be best if you told me everything you did while I was away on business!"
A tall, muscular man in a black trench coat walked over with security personnel. He had pink hair similar to Ceylon's, and it turned out to be Herman, the mayor of Siesta, who had only appeared in the dialogue and background.
Because of his long-standing high position, although he was not as imposing as Wei Yanwu, he was still able to command the entire scene.
"Due to repeated attacks by Originium Bugs and the impact on the volcanic environment, I banned the mining of obsidian, but newly mined obsidian continues to circulate in the market."
"After I ordered funding to provide assistance to Oripathy patients in Siesta, their numbers actually dwindled, and there were even rumors of them being treated unfairly."
"There are also people using the names of the Dorkos family, or even the city government, who use threats, coercion, and kidnapping to buy up shops and properties at low prices. Can you explain these things?"
With each step Hermann took, he uttered a question, leaving Kronen speechless.
"It's a real shame, Kronin. I wouldn't have minded sharing some things with you, but you went too far." He concluded, with a hint of regret.
"Too much? I haven't had enough. The reason I did all this is to ruin your reputation!" Kronin suddenly raised his head, his eyes filled with deep resentment, looking as if he wanted to devour Herman alive.
“Doctor!” He suddenly turned to Qin Duanyu beside him. “You are indeed very capable. You destroyed most of my plans in just one day. Unfortunately… even you can make mistakes. I kept this life to take revenge on Herman in the future. Now that he is still in Siesta, I have no more scruples.”
If Kronin had looked decent enough before, now his face was filled with madness, his features twisted into an indescribable ugliness.
"I'm not afraid of dying at all!" Kronin grinned as he put his hand into his pocket and pressed the remote control hidden inside.
One explosion after another rang out, and in just a few seconds, all the cargo ships and cruise ships on the dock were turned into fireballs.
"Are you crazy?!" Qin Duanyu couldn't help but curse.
I never would have guessed this guy was a madman!
Section 142, Chapter 34: I've been dreaming of this day.
"Boss, what are you doing?" Not only Qin Duanyu and his group, but even his mercenaries were shocked. The Ursus leader didn't care about the master-servant relationship anymore and grabbed Kronin by the collar to question him.
Originally, if he were caught, he would at most spend ten or twenty years in prison. Although he might have a hard time, at least he would have saved his life. But who knew he would do something like this?
At this moment, all roads leading to the outside world have been destroyed. These ships are not only tools for profiting when natural disasters strike, but also the only way to escape Siesta. Destroying them all means that everyone is waiting to die together.
"Fool, what do you think were those boxes we had you move onto the ship during the day? They were all explosives, of course!" Kronin said with a sneer, brushing the other man's hand aside.
As a vital transportation artery connecting Siesta with the outside world, the ship was naturally under strict protection. Qin Duanyu and his group underwent rigorous security checks when they boarded the ship. Meteor's explosive crossbow bolts and Misha's grenades were prohibited items and had to be transported by Penguin Logistics.
However, Kronin, by virtue of his position as the mayor's assistant, easily smuggled the explosives onto the ship, proving that it is truly difficult to guard against a thief within one's own ranks.
"Can't accept failure, so you've decided to fight to the death?" Herman frowned as he listened to the news that came out during the scuffle between the two. "After fifteen years by my side, is this all you've learned? I didn't expect you to be such a complete idiot. You've really disappointed me, Kronin."
"Disappointed? Fool? It seems you still haven't figured out the situation, old man!" Kronin laughed instead of getting angry, his manic appearance even frightening the mercenaries who followed him. "I have never cared about power and wealth. They are not important, just tools."
"The tool I use to destroy you and everything you value!"
From the very beginning, Kronin had no intention of coming back to rescue people; his so-called attempt to extort money from them was merely a way to appease the mercenaries.
Long ago, he began to spread rumors, posing as a messenger of natural disasters, that the volcanoes outside were dormant for a long time, thus numbing the local residents. After taking over the power of the city, he closed and demolished a large number of refuge facilities and observation stations monitoring the volcanoes under the pretext that they were useless and a waste of money.
These messy accounts were all attributed to Hermann.
In his plan, a natural disaster struck Siesta City, causing a large number of tourists to die due to a lack of escape routes. Even if Herman survived because he was not in the city, it would be impossible for him to regain his current glory.
After experiencing such a devastating loss, Hermann, as the leader of Siesta, will undoubtedly be scorned by the people, and this city, which relies on tourism, will also completely lose its appeal.
Now that Herman has shown himself, although he can't see the pain he felt after losing his daughter and years of hard work after destroying Siesta, he can see his enemy die in despair and helplessness, which is undoubtedly more satisfying.
"Why, why would you do this!?" Ceylon couldn't help but ask. She simply couldn't imagine that Kronin, a native of the area, would want to destroy the entire town.
"You'd have to ask your father what good deeds he's done all these years!" Cronin sneered. "The Baru Group ten years ago, the TV tower collapse eight years ago, and how your father annexed the nearby towns—those townspeople were all sent by him..."
“I have indeed done many things, but I will not gamble with Siesta. What do you consider the lives of the entire city to be!” Herman was silent for a moment before trying to interrupt Kronin.
“Oh, right, and the Hissk family on the Siesta beach sixteen years ago. That’s such a long time ago, you probably’ve forgotten about it by now, right?” Kronin ignored him and continued, “I haven’t forgotten it for a single day. Every night I dream about how you led that bunch of infected scum into my house!”
"You...you are a descendant of the Hissk family?" Even Herman, who had always been calm, couldn't help but ask in surprise.
Fifteen years ago, Herman went to the ribbon-cutting ceremony of a newly built welfare home. A clever and intelligent little boy showed insight and talent that were different from the other children, so Herman took notice of him and brought him along to give him opportunities.
Later, the boy lived up to expectations, obtained a university degree from outside the country, qualified as a messenger of natural disasters, and gradually grew into Herman's right-hand man.
Who would have thought that he was a vengeful man who knew how to keep a low profile, and that he would reveal his true colors at this crucial moment.
“That’s right. I thought I had no hope of revenge in this lifetime. I never expected that you, this hypocrite, would have the nerve to do charity work. I deliberately approached you and flattered you, working like a slave for so many years, all for this day!” Kronin roared in a low voice.
“The Heath family… they truly live up to their bloodline, cruel and vicious, actually using the lives of the entire city as the price for revenge.” Herman sighed. “Unfortunately, you are destined to be disappointed.”
In recent years, he has gradually handed over municipal power to Cronin, and recently even left to go to the new city area himself. On the one hand, he wanted to test Cronin and make him give himself away, and on the other hand, the new city area was just too important.
This is a mobile city.
Kronin's lies could fool the general public, but they couldn't fool an old fox like Hermann. He knew the importance of having a backup plan, so once he had enough funds, he began the construction of the new city.
During Herman's absence, most of the facilities in the new city were tested and ready. All that was needed was to relocate the residents there so they could leave peacefully before the natural disaster struck.
“You have no hope left. Just surrender and reflect on your mistakes in prison.” Black slowly stepped forward, preparing to arrest Kronin, who had his head hanging low.
On the other side, Herman walked up to Qin Duanyu.
"You must be the Doctor? I've heard rumors about Rhodes Island before, and it's true what they say. This time, thanks to you and the other operators, we were forced to take action ahead of time, otherwise the consequences would have been unimaginable." He extended his hand and shook hands with Qin Duanyu, immediately showering her with compliments.
"If I had met Mr. Herman earlier, I would have continued my vacation and stayed out of this mess. In your hands, this kind of scum wouldn't have been able to cause any trouble at all." Qin Duanyu's response was a flattering remark, but it was also loaded with meaning.
Judging from how familiar he seemed with his group, it was obvious that he had many informants in the city, but he deliberately let Kronin cause trouble in order to catch a big fish with a long line.
"And as for the fact that you deceived my daughter into not understanding business and signed that unfair contract, I think it's necessary to discuss its legality," Hermann grinned and continued.
"Hey, we were in a rush to save Siesta back then, so we just wrote down a few clauses. Don't worry about the details!"
Gan!
Meeting Ceylon's complicated gaze, Qin Duanyu scratched his head sheepishly.
Although that contract was just an excuse for Rhodes Island to get involved and would most likely be voided and re-signed later, he still held onto the hope that everyone might be too busy to notice and accidentally implement the terms.
Sure enough, it's almost impossible to get any advantage from people like Hermann and Old Wei. He pretended to be stupid for so long, but he still couldn't avoid it.
"Aren't you all celebrating too soon! The prerequisite for a successful escape is that the volcano erupts in two weeks." Kronin suddenly raised his head and said with a sinister grin, "But the day of the eruption is today!"
As if to verify his words, the ground began to shake violently.
Chapter 35, Section 143: These days, even Originium Bugs are interested in military strategy?
Meanwhile, at the foot of the volcano.
Skyfire, Eyjafjalla, and Provence stopped in front of a cave, checking their equipment and restoring their stamina, making final preparations for their exploration.
"I never expected there would actually be a cave that leads directly to the depths of the volcano." Eyjafjalla glanced at the dark and deep cave, which resembled a gaping maw, and felt a little scared.
"This was originally a natural cave, not very deep, but due to the past mining of obsidian, it now leads directly to the bottom of the volcano, and the terrain is extremely complicated, so be careful not to get lost." Provence took out a glow stick, tapped it lightly on the mountain wall, and went in first.
"In the past? So construction has stopped now?" Eyjafjalla asked in confusion. Because of her hearing impairment, she had left the negotiations with the locals to Provence and Skyfire before coming here, and she did not know the origin of this cave.
