"Doctor, are you alright?" Nearl, ignoring the rubble on her head, turned around and asked with concern.
"It's alright, I'm perfectly fine now." Bo stood up first and very gentlemanly extended his hand to her.
After helping the girl up, Bo remained calm and composed as he continued to give instructions while observing the condition of the herd.
My original plan was actually quite good, but alas...
"I don't like being passive, what kind of nonsense is this!" Bo suddenly waved his hand and said loudly, "Ningguang, you'll take Oleg's place. Oleg, just charge forward and take out those gunners and snipers!"
"What?" Oleg exclaimed in surprise upon hearing this.
Even though he was a seasoned veteran and had seen it all, the Ursus man still couldn't help but swallow hard when he saw the dense herds of livestock in front of him. Was the Doctor planning to take revenge on this opportunity?
"Hurry, hurry, charge, charge, the Shield Guards are on the move!" But Bo started humming an awful song and didn't want to pay any more attention to him.
Oleg took a deep breath and charged out with a death-defying spirit.
Unexpectedly, Mu Qun walked past him as if he hadn't seen him at all. Unless Mu Qun was blocking his path, he didn't even bother to roar at him.
"What's going on?" Vika looked puzzled, instinctively suspecting that Qin Duanyu had used some kind of Originium Arts to turn Oleg into an Akarin, but the Patriots' subordinates were still firing at Oleg.
"Probably because that little pervert isn't around, they've all gone idiots," Bo said, shrugging as he watched Oleg reach a long-range sniping position and slaughter the enemies like a tiger among sheep.
Without Mephisto's command, the herd is like the lowest level of robots, simply carrying out pre-arranged, simple orders. Since the distant enemy was not attacked, it means that his order was most likely to "kill the non-infected".
Oleg was attacked far less frequently than the others, more like someone who got caught in the crossfire while watching thugs fight. This also indirectly confirmed Bo's conjecture, and now that it's been tested, it's indeed true.
If you can't outsmart these brainless idiots, you can outsmart their commander!
"Infected... how did you figure it out?" Vika frowned. Fortunately, the others were still focused on defending the herd and didn't notice the conversation.
Back in Ursus, she went to great lengths to conceal Oleg's infected status, but the Doctor easily determined his condition without any testing.
"If I said I guessed based on a feeling, would you believe me?" Bo didn't want to explain further and casually replied, "By the way, Great White Bear, would you like to learn my secret Originium Arts? The kind that can turn the tide of the battle!"
"Huh? I want to!" Vika was slightly taken aback before realizing that the polar bear was calling her.
Although she felt offended because the nickname was completely inappropriate, Vika still wanted to know how to turn the situation around. After all, no matter how powerful Oleg was, he couldn't possibly kill all the enemies in front of him by himself.
For now, the situation has only been temporarily stabilized, but Mephistopheles is on his way, and the herds under his command are not so easy to fool.
"Put your hands together like you're praying to Sakota, and clap them loudly." Bo's face beneath the mask revealed an enigmatic smile.
"Is that so?" Vika was skeptical, but after thinking it over, she did as instructed.
Snapped!
With a crisp sound, she clasped her hands together in front of her chest, much like a Sakota person praying.
"It doesn't look like it's strong enough. Let's try a few more times," Bo said seriously, sniffing.
clap clap clap!
"Doctor, is it because I lack talent?" Vika's hands ached from clapping, but nothing happened. She couldn't help but think of what happened at the altar and lowered her head in dejection.
"Although it didn't have much effect, it's enough. I can feel the fluctuation of power." Bo nodded in satisfaction, his mind filled with the turbulent scene from just now.
As expected of a polar bear, it's big, white, and adorably silly, making it incredibly easy to fool.
Chapter 21, Section 199: A Desperate Situation Unfolds the Chessboard
The dry riverbed, several meters wide, was filled with Mephistopheles' herds. If the river hadn't been so swift, sweeping away several monsters that tried to wade around the defenses, their situation would have been even more dangerous.
Even so, some enemies still managed to break through the defenses and pose a threat to Vika and Nearl in the back row. Vika, in particular, who lacked combat experience, was in grave danger several times and was only saved from injury thanks to Nearl's timely rescue.
"If we can't hold on, we'll continue to retreat. It'll probably take a while longer." Bo sighed. In this state, he really wasn't as good at commanding battles as his normal self, especially when facing such irrational herds, where he could only fight a tough battle.
Fortunately, according to the original plan, all he had to do was stall for time and prevent the team from suffering serious casualties.
"Doctor, something's wrong with the herd!" Nearl said gravely after smashing an enemy's head with a hammer.
The herd changed its previous moth-to-a-flame mentality, and its attack was no longer chaotic. Apart from the melee monsters charging in the front, those who had been standing by helplessly in the back actually gave up their positions to the crossbowmen and sorcerers.
Although they were transformed into part of the herd and reduced to mindless monsters, the instinct to attack was already ingrained in their bodies, and they still retained the ability to cast spells and shoot from a distance.
This indicates that Mephistopheles has arrived nearby and begun directing the herds in battle; he should appear in sight soon.
"What a pity. I was hoping to lure more fools over, but it doesn't seem like we've dealt them enough damage." To everyone's surprise, Bo looked up as if to admire the scenery around him, and then said with some dissatisfaction, as if he felt there weren't enough enemies.
"Doctor, what are you talking about?" Vika asked, panting as she plunged her longsword into the heart of a monster.
With effective command, the herd's combat strength increased dramatically, and the number of enemies breaking through the shield guards' defenses increased sharply, keeping the two girls busy. If this continued, they would be torn to shreds sooner or later.
Bo then clasped his hands together, performing the same "secret Originium Arts" he had previously mentioned without any apparent connection to Maoyue, and then uttered a chant that was difficult to decipher:
"How many flights of stairs do you have to carry a bag of rice up?"
Why are they even using the Eastern language? This language was clearly outside of Vika's knowledge, but before she could ask what it meant, the ground began to shake violently.
The level of tremor was definitely not something a mere herd could produce; rather, it gave the illusion of a mobile city starting up, as if some enormous creature was approaching.
Vika's question was quickly answered.
Boom!
The deafening roar of the herds echoed through the valley. Although visibility was low due to the rain, a large patch of muddy gray material could be seen rapidly spreading in this direction.
The last herd was the first to be swept up without any resistance, not even having time to roar. Mephistopheles seemed to panic and even forgot to command the attack to continue.
Taking advantage of this rare opportunity, the shield guards cut down the enemies in front of them and retreated to Qin Duanyu's side.
"Doctor, is this your Originium Arts?" Vika asked incredulously.
The information says that the doctor's only ability is to command troops, and his actual combat power is close to zero. He can't even beat a goose, right? Then how come he has such a world-destroying spell?
"Of course not. If I had that kind of power, the Reunion Movement would have been wiped out long ago. I just used some basic geographical knowledge." Bo turned around gracefully, leaving everyone with a mysterious and unpredictable back view.
Qin Duanyu had been waiting for this, and he had noticed the unusual surroundings long ago.
Despite the torrential rain, the river level dropped, and the water became murky, mixed with a lot of branches. Standing at the entrance to the valley, one could faintly hear strange, muffled sounds coming from upstream, and the ground trembled slightly.
All of this indicates that something terrible is brewing at the very top of the valley—a mudslide.
Originally, for safety reasons, Qin Duanyu planned to lead everyone to higher ground to avoid this potential danger. However, the Reunion Movement arrived too quickly, and once they were entangled, there was no way to escape. Left with no other choice, she had to choose this risky method.
After all, the so-called pro player defeating pay-to-win player is based on the premise that the gap is not too exaggerated. No matter how good the skill is, it can't withstand the crushing force of thousands of times more people. They don't even need to do anything, they can just auto-attack.
What if I can't play?
Of course, we should unplug the internet cable, flip the table, and slam the chessboard over that whale's head!
Even though doing so is extremely risky and completely inconsistent with his style of preparing multiple survival plans and never putting himself in danger, Bo really couldn't think of a better way, just like the day he tricked Talulah in Chernobog.
All Bo could do was try to follow his own logic and make things develop in the direction of the plan. Fortunately, everything was completed smoothly without any major incidents.
But the most important thing right now is... seeing the approaching tide of rock and mud, Bo shouted, grabbed Nearl and Vika, and ran downstream:
"What are you all running for? Hurry up and stop! Do you really think I can control this thing?"
……
On a high slope not far away, a group of Reunion Movement members dressed in military overcoats stood in large groups. The deer-headed spirit at the front sighed softly, whether it was because of Mephisto's plight or because he was glad that he hadn't led his men into battle.
Faced with the might of heaven and earth, he might be able to escape with a bit of difficulty, but his subordinates would have absolutely no chance of survival.
"Captain, it's fortunate that you noticed something was wrong beforehand, otherwise the consequences would have been unimaginable." Looking at the herd swallowed by the mudslide, the adjutant wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and said with some lingering fear.
"I just feel there's something fishy going on," Patriot replied calmly.
Patriot certainly didn't expect the enemy to use mudslides. He and his guerrillas fought year-round in the northwestern tundra, where the soil was hard and rainfall was scarce, so mudslides were almost non-existent.
However, after fighting guerrilla warfare for more than 20 years and standing firm against the encirclement and suppression of the regular army, Patriot not only had excellent military skills and outstanding strategy, but also had amazing intuition. This strange feeling helped him escape the ambush and sneak attack of the Ursus army several times.
“But then, Mephisto…” The adjutant was a little worried. He was supposed to be on a mission with Patriots, but Mephisto died in the calamity. This would inevitably arouse Talulah’s suspicion.
After all, even the officers couldn't stand some of Mephistopheles' actions, and his good friend Faust had tried to persuade him many times. However, because of Talulah's tacit approval, no one had tried to correct or kill this unfortunate kid, which only encouraged his willful nature.
"I sent someone to warn him before," Patriot said frankly.
Anyway, the message has been delivered. Whether that brat will listen to it or not is up to his own fate. Even if Talulah holds him accountable when they get back, he'll still use this sentence as his response.
This combat style is somewhat familiar... Patriot couldn't help but think of a Sarkaz mercenary leader in the Reunion Movement whose true form resembled an American cockroach; she also quite liked to use the terrain to attack enemies.
No, that little girl always makes sure she has a way out beforehand, prioritizing her own safety above all else, unlike these Ursus soldiers who cut off their own chances of survival just to take a few more down with them.
"Captain, look over there!" At that moment, the adjutant pointed to the entrance of the valley, where a disheveled man was walking towards them under the cover of a herd of livestock.
It seems he did heed the patriot's advice and didn't go to the front lines to play cat and mouse, which allowed him to escape with the help of his herd when the mudslide occurred. However, judging from his dejected appearance, he probably suffered a considerable loss this time.
What a wonderful child! How come he wasn't buried in the rocks?
Section 200, Chapter Twenty-Two: The Prank Movement? I think I've heard of it.
A gust of cool wind jolted Qin Duanyu awake.
My head is still a little dizzy, but it's still within the normal range. My rationality should have recovered quite a bit, and thanks to the fact that Bo's appearance this time wasn't too long, I didn't fall into a coma for several days like I did in Siesta.
"Doctor, you're finally awake!" Slowly opening his eyes, the first thing he saw was Nearl's face full of joy.
At this moment, she looked disheveled, her white armor was pitted and covered in stains, as if she had just been dug out of the ground. Coupled with her still-black hair, it was hard for anyone to associate her with the radiant and dazzling Radiant Knight.
Not only her, Vika also lost her noble air as a young lady. Her silver hair was covered in dust, and her once crisp uniform was wrinkled. She could easily be mistaken for a country girl.
Needless to say, Oleg and his gang of rough men looked no different from beggars on the street, in a sorry state, even worse than defeated soldiers, they were practically refugees.
But at least they're all still alive, so it seems Bo has successfully led them out.
"How long have I been asleep?" He shook his head, feeling the softness on the back of his head, and was once again enjoying the comfort of having a lap pillow.
“It’s been exactly one day. We just found a place to rest and were about to wake up when you woke up.” Oleg quickly took out a map and pointed out their current location. “As per your instructions before you fell unconscious, the team did not take the road directly back to Lungmen, but instead took a longer route to the south. Sure enough, we did not encounter any pursuers or sentries.”
"Yes, we've broken out of the encirclement. Even if the Patriots are still worried afterward, they'll only organize people to check along the riverbank. We're safe for now." Qin Duanyu nodded, recalling what had happened.
Due to gravity, the mudslide will accelerate, and if you run downstream in its direction, you'll eventually be swept away and your body won't even be found. It's like in the Tom and Jerry cartoon, where instead of dodging a falling telephone pole, you insist on running in the direction it's falling—it's incredibly stupid.
So after running a distance, Bo desperately tried to find a way out, but the cliffs on both sides were almost vertical at 90 degrees and the surface was very smooth, making it impossible to climb.
He could only get everyone to climb onto a relatively high boulder, but as time went on, the area available for footholds became less and less, and they couldn't hold on until the mudslide receded.
Fortunately, Bo suddenly remembered that before he set off, he had asked Provence what he needed to bring on his expedition, and one of the items on that list was: a rope with a grappling hook.
