"Really? That's great!" Xincheng said with a smile. "By the way, how is the village chief? He seems to be badly injured."
"His arm has been broken. We're discussing treatment options now. Luckily, it was discovered early, otherwise it would have had to be amputated." Yokomizo sighed. "Those two guys were really ruthless."
Chapter 313 Provides Assistance to the First Investigation Division
"That's truly a sad thing. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now," Shinjo replied with a smile. He didn't care whether the village chief Murakuma lived or died, after all, he had already completed his mission.
"Come visit Shizuoka sometime! We have a lot of fun places here."
"Yes, I will." Xincheng nodded with a smile, and added after hanging up the phone, "As long as you're not afraid of the bad luck I bring."
"That guy is such an idiot. So many loopholes, and he didn't even notice anything amiss," Karen scoffed. "It's really..."
“Not everyone is named Conan Edogawa, and not everyone is named Heiji Hattori.” Shinjo stared at the hospital across the street. “Perhaps we need to change our plan.”
"Change it?" Karen asked, frowning. "Are you sure? If we don't break the organization's reach, they'll keep reaching out, one after another."
“The original plan was just to cut off those hands, but now I’m going to follow this outstretched finger, find his arm, and then cut the whole arm off.” Shinjo picked up the guitar case next to him. “By the way, give the First Investigation Division some help.”
"To what extent?"
"Before the police get involved, we must prevent any accidents from happening to that guy," Xincheng said, stroking his chin. "We can provide them with some technical support; all the information on the people on that previous line can be given to them."
Karen fell silent, clearly not agreeing with Newtown's approach.
Finding Rum this time was purely coincidental. This guy was too impatient, recklessly stumbling into a trap disguised as "headquarters" without proper investigation. Such a coincidence won't happen again. Even if he escapes, he won't make the same mistake twice.
In this situation, those who pass on the information become the last clue to finding the organization. By handing over the information of these guys to the Metropolitan Police Department, they will no longer have the leverage to get involved in this incident.
"If this guy is really that important, even if he's locked up in a hospital, someone will come to rescue him." Shinjo stretched. "By the way, how's the stuff we got from the ocean buoy coming along? Is it usable?"
"It can be used. You want to use it to help the First Investigation Division catch those guys?" Karen said with dissatisfaction. "Do you know what that means? This information will eventually end up in the hands of the Public Security Bureau. Those guys will guess that we were behind the ocean buoy incident. Even without evidence, they will still choose to take action against us."
"Who told you to give them the information directly?" Shinjo said, somewhat speechless. "Just send them the photos of the meeting. The Metropolitan Police Department will then issue a reward. You can create a few fake identities, provide clues, and collect the reward along with the information. We're not working for free."
"Ok."
A dozen minutes later, Officer Takagi, who was resting on a bench outside the ward, received a phone call. The person on the other end of the line asked him to check the restroom on the fourth floor of the hospital.
Takagi immediately signaled to his two nearby colleagues to follow him and be ready to provide support at any time. After all, the person who called was using a voice changer and didn't seem like a good person.
Inspector Megure had previously hinted to him that the person in the ward was in danger and that someone might come to rescue him; those people were very likely carrying firearms.
Upon receiving the call, Officer Takagi immediately suspected it was a diversionary tactic by the enemy, but he wasn't afraid because this was the headquarters of the First Investigation Division. An hour earlier, all available personnel from the First Investigation Division had gathered at this hospital; even if he were transferred, others would remain guarding the ward doors.
There was nothing in the toilet except for a file folder on the sink.
"Is this what you wanted to give me?" Takagi didn't rush to open it.
The file folder in front of me was bulging, who knows what was stuffed inside? Those guys might have planted a bomb in there, and if I opened the folder, I and the two officers behind me would be swallowed up by the explosion.
"Don't be afraid. If I really wanted to use a bomb, I wouldn't have chosen this place." The man on the other end of the phone sounded impatient. "The windows in the corridor weren't closed. A bomb could have taken out you and the two officers guarding the door, as well as that door you brought from the prison. After all, the door frame isn't made of iron."
"Who are you?" Takagi asked nervously.
"The guy lying in the hospital room has connections with gangs in Europe and America. This time he came to Japan and basically stole our business. We wanted to take care of him, but unfortunately, we didn't manage to blow him up." The voice on the other end of the phone was unhurried. "So, we'll have to trouble you to take care of them."
"Yakuza organization!" Takagi's face darkened instantly. That guy wanted to use the First Investigation Division as a pawn.
"You have no reason to refuse. Perhaps you could consult your superiors, those people in the Public Security Planning Department. They might be very interested in this intelligence." The person on the other end of the line hung up after saying that.
Takagi paused, staring at the documents in front of him, his mind a jumble. When that guy mentioned consulting his superiors, he said the Public Security Planning Section, not the Investigation Section 1. Did that guy mean he was certain the case had already been transferred to the Public Security Bureau?
With that in mind, he dialed Inspector Megure's number, and the explosive ordnance disposal team quickly arrived at the scene. Under the robot's control, the file folder was roughly torn open, scattering documents across the floor.
Inspector Megure immediately began reading the documents, but as he read, his expression grew increasingly grim.
"Now I finally understand why the police took the case. These guys are really dangerous," Officer Shiratori sighed.
“What worries me more is that guy, the guy who wants to use us as pawns.” Inspector Megure took a deep breath. “He might be more dangerous than these guys.”
"Just like he said, we have no reason to refuse, do we?" Shiratori said helplessly. "What do we do now? Continue to maintain a tough stance against the police?"
"Wait," Inspector Megure said, forcing himself to speak. "Have the hospital transfer all the patients on this floor."
"Okay." Shiratori nodded.
If those people were to actually attack the hospital, a fierce gunfight could very likely break out here, and all the patients on this floor would be in mortal danger. Moreover, clearing out the patients is, to some extent, a form of screening; without patients and their families, the security pressure will be much lower.
The hospital quickly began a relocation. Although some patients complained about this, they all chose to keep quiet as soon as possible after the hospitalization fee was reduced by 20 yen per person.
Such a commotion quickly attracted the attention of journalists. The patients couldn't keep their mouths shut, and rumors about the hospital soon appeared in various reports.
Rena Mizunashi looked at the hospital in the distance, then reached behind her waist where there was a pistol.
Two hours ago, Vodka, who had been away from Japan for a long time, gave her an assassination order, instructing her to find a way to kill the guy in the hospital room. Although she didn't know who that guy was, anyone who could get Vodka to contact her, his "discarded pawn," must be someone incredibly important. So she contacted Shinjo immediately and learned the truth: the new Rum had actually been arrested by the police—that was big news.
"Taking care of this guy won't be easy. Vodka has given me quite a challenge." Rena Mizunashi shook her head, put on her in-ear monitor, and began the interview.
She was shocked when she learned that the floor where Rum lived had been cleared out. Had those guys from the Metropolitan Police Department already found out Rum's identity? Why were they making such a fuss? Didn't they know that their actions would cause panic?
In fact, the Metropolitan Police Department's actions have already caused panic. Some people have started spreading rumors that there is a highly contagious disease in the hospital. If the police officers who went upstairs hadn't been without masks, the hospital would have already started to descend into chaos.
Just then, two Toyota Coasters pulled up at the entrance, and more than a dozen fully armed members of the mobile unit jumped out. Under the command of their commander, they quickly arrived at their positions.
Realizing something was wrong, Rena Mizunashi contacted Shinjo immediately, but Shinjo's attitude remained clear: she should ignore what was happening here.
Meanwhile, downstairs from the Mori Detective Agency
Kogoro Mouri sat in Poirot Cafe, frowning as he watched the news on TV. "What on earth are those guys, Inspector Megure and his crew, up to cause such a commotion?"
But before he could finish complaining, the phone in his pocket rang.
"Hello, who is this?" Kogoro Mouri asked somewhat listlessly.
"Brother Mori?" Inspector Megure said seriously, "If you have time, come to the Metropolitan Police Department. Oh, and bring Ran and... never mind, where are you now? I'll have Takagi drive over and pick you up."
"What exactly happened?" Kogoro Mouri asked seriously, startled.
His intuition told him that this matter was not simple and was very likely related to the news broadcast on television.
"Dad, who called? Why do you look so pale?" Xiaolan asked while eating her parfait.
Kogoro Mouri's gaze lingered on Ran's face for two seconds before quickly shifting to Conan beside him, a bad feeling creeping into his heart.
Inspector Megure was looking for him, Ran, and Conan. When Conan was mentioned, he said he needed a police car to pick him up, so this case is related to Conan. Could it be that Inspector Megure found something?
A dozen minutes later, Takagi drove to the entrance of Poirot Cafe. When he got out of the car, he saw a familiar face. The policeman named Kazama arrived at the cafe at almost the same time as him.
Shouldn't this guy be in the police force right now, trying to get a joint investigation from a high-ranking official? Why is he here? Could it be that the important person is in this coffee shop?
It wasn't just Takagi who noticed Kazama; some people might have seen his face several times before. Combined with the information Shinjo had given him, the guy hiding in Poirot Cafe as a clerk had no secrets whatsoever.
Amuro Tooru also noticed the two people's strange behavior. It seems that he can't let Kazama come to him again. That face is just too conspicuous.
As soon as Kogoro Mouri got into the car, he immediately asked Takagi, "Officer Takagi, what exactly did Inspector Megure want with us this time? Is it related to the commotion at the hospital? Who exactly is that guy being held in the hospital?"
“Actually, I don’t know much either. I only know that the guy locked up in the hospital is dangerous,” Takagi said somewhat awkwardly. “Mr. Mori will have to ask Inspector Megure for more specific information.”
"Uncle Takagi, just how dangerous is this extremely dangerous guy?" Conan asked with an "innocent" look.
“We’ve just started an investigation, but the yakuza organizations in Japan have provided us with information that this guy seems to be from an overseas yakuza group.” Takagi sighed. “All I know is that the guy lying in the hospital bed is called Rum, and nothing else.”
Conan's lips twitched. Rum, if it really is Rum from that mysterious organization, then things are getting interesting.
"By the way, do you know who provided you with this information?" Kogoro Mouri asked, frowning.
He had also researched that organization, and the first thing he thought of when he heard the word "Rum" was that organization. He just couldn't understand how such a ruthless guy could have been caught by the Metropolitan Police Department.
It's not that he looks down on the Metropolitan Police Department, but rather that the Metropolitan Police Department is really weak right now.
"Actually, it wasn't us who caught him. You should already know about the bombing this morning, right? He was the victim of the bombing." Takagi said with some helplessness, "We found drone wreckage at the center of the explosion, then retrieved the surveillance footage and discovered that the perpetrator used a drone bomb. Then we started investigating the victim's identity."
"We didn't find anything, right?"
“Yeah, we didn’t find anything.” Takagi rubbed his temples. “Then someone contacted us, saying they were willing to provide his information and evidence of his crimes—a whole thick file.”
"Is what's recorded inside real?" Kogoro Mouri's interest was instantly piqued. "The yakuza organization helping with the investigation, that's really something..."
“Some of the cases have already been solved, those were the ones the police transferred to us a while ago. There are still some cases under investigation, and their authenticity should be guaranteed.” Takagi stepped on the brakes. “We’re here.”
Kogoro Mouri soon met Inspector Megure waiting at the door. Under Inspector Megure's guidance, they quickly obtained visitor passes. However, Conan looked at the visitor pass in front of him and then at the smiling Inspector Megure, feeling a bit overwhelmed, because the name on his visitor pass was—Shinichi Kudo.
Chapter 314 Network of Relationships
"Inspector Megure, are you sure you're not mistaken?" Conan asked, clinging to a sliver of hope.
"Now that things have come to this, are you still going to keep it a secret?" Inspector Megure slapped Kogoro Mouri hard on the back. "You should have said something sooner. I thought you'd suddenly become enlightened."
"This..." Kogoro Mouri wanted to defend himself and say that he was unaware of the situation, but Inspector Megure interrupted him.
Inspector Megure led everyone directly into a meeting room and had Takagi stand guard at the door.
Officer Takagi looked somewhat resentful. He had rushed back to the Metropolitan Police Department as a driver with the intention of finding out the details of the case, but he dared not disobey his superior's orders and could only stand at the door sighing.
Interior
"These are the documents we obtained from the yakuza organization." Inspector Megure placed a document in front of Conan. "Kudo, your case is here."
Conan saw the information inside the amusement park, as well as information about Vodka and Gin, including their real names and what they had done. Each entry was followed by a code that corresponded to a specific document.
He began to flip through the remaining documents; what lay before him, though called evidence, looked more like the resumes of a criminal organization.
"Have all these criminal suspects been caught?" Kogoro Mouri flicked the documents in front of him. "They all look like vicious and ruthless guys. People like that are too dangerous to keep in society."
“Some of them have already been apprehended and are currently being interrogated,” Inspector Megure said, frowning. “These people are very stubborn; they won’t talk until we see enough evidence to convict them. We’ve already sent people with these documents to collect relevant evidence, and we will interrogate them again later.”
"What about the rest?" Conan asked, staring at the documents on the table. "Did they escape, or are they already dead?"
"How did you know?!" Inspector Megure was also taken aback.
“Because I’m also investigating this organization, and their methods are always the same. Once their identities are exposed, unless they hold a high-ranking position, they’ll be silenced by a team led by that person.” Conan sat down in his chair. “I think you’ve already reviewed the surveillance footage; have you found them?”
“No,” Inspector Megure said decisively. “However, we found traces of data tampering, which was likely done when the data was connected to the ocean buoy. Fortunately, we still have a copy of the original data, but it may take some time to find it.”
Conan was taken aback; he hadn't expected the Metropolitan Police Department to have a backup plan, which was a pleasant surprise.
"Why did you call us here?" Kogoro Mouri flipped through the files in front of him, becoming more and more annoyed. "Shouldn't we arrest all of these organizations? Regardless of whether there's evidence or not, shouldn't we just take them into custody first? By the way, why are you still in the Metropolitan Police Department? And you even have the leisure to invite us over for tea and a chat? Are you scared?"
This is Tokyo, Japan, the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police Department. They know who the criminal is, yet the official armed force is delaying action on its own turf. If word gets out, every single high-ranking official in the Metropolitan Police Department will have to bow down and apologize.
“It’s not that we haven’t considered taking those people under control, but there’s been considerable resistance to doing so,” Inspector Megure said with a hint of helplessness. “Resistance from above.”
Conan's face darkened. Even at this point, the Metropolitan Police Department was still fighting amongst themselves. This was truly...
