Frillie retains the appearance of an elementary school student, but in this illusion, everyone naturally accepts the fact that she has grown up alongside the brother and sister. Magic maintains the plausibility of this world.
"Look what I found!" One day after school, Xia Mi mysteriously pulled an old book out of her schoolbag. "I found it in the box behind the school storeroom!"
The book cover was damaged, but the title was still legible: *World Myths and Legends*. A thought struck Frilian; she vaguely sensed that this book might be a projection of Fenrir's subconscious.
"What's so interesting?" Fenrir asked without looking up, continuing to work on his math problems.
Xia Mi turned the page of the book and stopped at an illustration: "Look! This dragon looks just like you, brother!"
The illustration depicted a massive black dragon with outstretched wings and eyes like molten gold. Fenrir glanced at it, then froze, his pen slipping from his hand.
"What's wrong?" Frilian asked softly.
Fenrir shook his head and picked up his pen. "It's nothing, just... a strange feeling." He rubbed his temples. "It's like I had a very long dream, but I can't remember it."
Xia Mi looked at her brother with concern: "You've been having headaches lately, do you want to go to the infirmary?"
"It's alright now." Fenrir forced a smile and closed his notebook. "Didn't we say we were going to buy the new ice cream flavor? It's on me."
Xia Mi's attention was immediately diverted, and she cheered, pulling the two of them along as they ran towards the school gate. Frilian glanced back at the mythology book, lost in thought.
Biology was added to the junior high curriculum. Once, when the teacher was explaining the agave plant, he mentioned the word "dragon." Fenrir suddenly turned pale and began to breathe rapidly.
"Brother? What's wrong?" Xia Mi asked softly.
Frilian immediately grasped Fenrir's hand and softly chanted a soothing spell—or, to onlookers, just ordinary words of comfort. Magical power slowly flowed into Fenrir's body, and he gradually calmed down.
“I don’t know,” Fenrir said softly. “Every time I hear the word ‘dragon,’ I feel a pang of sadness, as if I’ve forgotten something important.”
Xia Mi gripped her brother's other hand tightly with concern: "Then don't think about it! Anyway, I'm here."
Fenrir looked at his sister, his eyes gradually clearing: "Yes, it's good to have you here."
Frilian observed this scene and realized that Xia Mi was Fenrir's "anchor" in this illusion, maintaining his mental stability. Those fragments of memories about dragons were proof that reality was eroding the illusion.
In PE class, the boys played soccer, and the girls practiced volleyball. Fenrir had exceptionally good athletic ability, especially in running and dodging; his speed was astonishing. Once, to catch a ball that had flown out of bounds, he moved more than ten meters in almost an instant, leaving everyone stunned.
"Brother, when did you become so amazing?" Xia Mi asked in surprise.
Fenrir himself looked puzzled: "I don't know, my body just moved on its own."
This illusion doesn't have much time left.
Only Frilian understood that this was a reflection of Fenrir's dragon instincts in the illusion.
In her second year of junior high, the school held a cultural festival. Xia Mi's class decided to perform a play, and she won the role of the princess. Fenrir was pulled in to manage the props backstage.
"Frilian, could you please check on my brother?" The day before the performance, Xia Mi secretly approached Frilian. "He's been having nightmares again lately and can't sleep well. Tomorrow is very important, and I'm afraid he won't be able to make it."
Frillie nodded: "Leave it to me."
That night, Frilian came to Fenrir's window and gently recited a calming incantation. In the moonlight, she saw Fenrir's sleeping face gradually calm down, and his brow relaxed.
The second day's performance was a great success. Xia Mi was radiant on stage, while Fenrir controlled every scene transition backstage. The final scene, where the princess is redeemed, required artificial snow effects. As Fenrir operated the machine, snowflakes fell in a breathtakingly beautiful display.
After the performance, Xia Mi excitedly hugged her brother and Frilian: "We did it! The best team!"
Fenrir stared unsteadily in the direction the snowflakes were falling.
“It’s so beautiful,” he whispered. “It feels like I’ve seen this view somewhere before…so high up, overlooking the whole world…”
Xia Mi squeezed his hand: "You're saying nonsensical things again! Go help me remove my makeup, the wig clip is giving me a headache."
Fenrir snapped out of his reverie and smiled. "They're here."
After the cultural festival, the school organized a field trip to the Natural History Museum. In the dinosaur exhibit, Fenrir stood in front of a huge dinosaur skeleton for a long time without moving.
"Brother, it's time to go!" Xia Mi called out from the doorway.
Fenrir, however, seemed not to hear, and reached out to gently touch the glass cover of the display stand, his eyes glazed over.
“They once ruled the world, so powerful, yet they still disappeared,” he murmured. “Why do powerful things always disappear?”
Frilian approached him: "Survival of the fittest."
Fenrir turned his head, his gaze gradually focusing: "Frilian, sometimes I feel like you know so much, unlike..."
"Don't look like a middle school student?" Frilian replied with a smile. "Let's hurry up, Xia Mi is getting impatient."
Chapter 198 Entering the Dream (Part 2)
Frilian took Fenrir's hand and led him to the door, a ripple of emotion stirring within her. The illusion was becoming unstable, and Fenrir's subconscious was beginning to question the reality of this world.
On the way back from the outing, Xia Mi fell asleep leaning on her brother's shoulder.
Fenrir whispered to Frillie, "I keep having the same dream lately."
What kind of dream?
“I dreamt that I was flying in a vast sky, with endless mountains and seas of clouds below. And someone was calling me, a very familiar voice,” Fenrir said, looking down at his sleeping sister. “Every time I woke up, I felt a strange sadness, as if I had lost something important.”
Frillie paused for a moment, then asked, "What would you do if it wasn't just a dream?"
Fenrir thought for a moment, then gently smoothed Xia Mi's hair: "I don't know. But no matter what happens, I will protect Xia Mi. That's the one thing I'm most certain of."
The setting sun cast a warm glow through the car window, bathing the brother and sister in its light. Frilian suddenly felt a pang of pity; though this illusion was false, the emotions within it felt so real. Once Fenrir awoke, this warm, everyday life would vanish, replaced by harsh reality.
On the eve of their junior high graduation, the three of them returned to the cherry blossom tree. Xia Mi excitedly discussed their high school plans, while Fenrir listened quietly, occasionally adding a comment.
"We'll stay together forever!" Xia Mi said, just like she did in elementary school. "No matter what happens, the three of us will stay together."
Fenrir nodded solemnly: "I promise you."
The two looked at Frillie. She hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded.
Will the promises made in the illusion carry over into reality? She wasn't sure.
On graduation day, Fenrir gave a speech as a student representative. Halfway through his speech, he paused and looked up at the distant sky. Everyone followed his gaze in confusion, only to see a clear blue sky.
“The sky,” Fenrir whispered into the microphone, his voice echoing through the quiet auditorium, “what awaits us on the other side of the sky?”
Xia Mi nervously grabbed Frilian's hand: "Brother is saying strange things again."
Frilian gripped her hand, secretly casting a calming spell. Fenrir on the stage blinked, as if just waking from a dream, and awkwardly continued his speech.
When asked what happened at the time, Fenrir himself couldn't explain it: "I just suddenly felt that the sky was very vast and familiar... as if I should be flying there."
Xia Mi looked at her brother with concern: "Why don't you go to the hospital for a check-up? This has been happening a lot lately."
Fenrir shook his head, smiling as he ruffled his sister's hair. "It's nothing, she's probably just too tired before the exam. Don't worry."
But Frilian knew the illusion was nearing its limit. Fenrir's dragon instincts were awakening, and the realization of his true identity was impacting this fictional world.
That evening, Frilian stood outside the Fenrir's window, watching the brother and sister study in the study. Xia Mi was struggling with a math problem, and Fenrir patiently explained it to her. Finally, Xia Mi understood, and happily hugged her brother's neck affectionately.
“Give me a little more time,” Frillian murmured to herself, “to let them have a little more peace and quiet.”
However, the illusion collapsed faster than expected.
The next day, on their way home from school, an out-of-control truck suddenly veered toward the street where they were. Everything happened so fast that Fenrir instinctively pushed Xia Mi and Furi to safety, but he himself was grazed by the truck's rearview mirror and fell heavily to the ground.
"Brother!" Xia Mi screamed and rushed over.
Frilian followed closely behind, preparing to cast a healing spell. But when she reached Fenrir, she saw the abrasions on his arm healing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Fenrir himself saw this, staring at his arm, which had been fully restored, his eyes gradually shifting from confusion to shock.
"This isn't it," he murmured to himself, "This isn't real."
The sky began to distort, and the surrounding scenery blurred like an oil painting soaked in water. The illusion was collapsing, and Fenrir's consciousness was awakening.
"Frilian!" Xia Mi grabbed her hand in alarm. "What happened? Why is everything so strange!"
Frillie looked at Xia Mi in surprise. Logically, as part of the illusion, Xia Mi shouldn't be aware of the world's anomaly. Unless...
“Xia Mi, you…”, Frilian suddenly realized something, “You’re not an illusion?”
Xia Mi's eyes became complex and profound. She took Fenrir's hand and whispered, "I was never just an illusion. I am his sister, his anchor, his Xia Mi."
Fenrir raised his head, his eyes gleaming with golden light: "I remember now, I am Fenrir, the king of the earth and mountains, the former Hela."
The street collapsed completely, and the three plummeted into the endless void. During their fall, Fenrir's form constantly shifted, from a boy to a dragon, and then back to a boy. Xia Mi gripped his hand tightly, her form flickering between human and dragon forms.
Finally, they stood in a pure white space, facing Fenrir who had returned to his adult form. Xia Mi stood beside him, still in the appearance of a human girl, with wisdom beyond her years in her eyes.
“Thank you, Frilian,” Fenrir said, his voice low and calm. “Thank you for letting me experience that life.”
Frilian nodded, pondering how to tame Fenrir back in reality. "You need that experience to balance your nature. Violence and gentleness, destruction and protection, these are all part of you."
Xia Mi, Jormungandr, smiled and said, "We will cherish this memory. As dragons, we rarely have the opportunity to experience the world from a human perspective."
Fenrir nodded: "I understand the other side of existence. Even if it is fleeting and fictitious, that feeling is real."
He looked at Xia Mi beside him, "No matter what, my heart to protect my sister will never change. I'm entrusting the rest of me to you, Frilian."
Frillie sensed the magic fading and the illusion about to vanish completely: "Are you ready? Return to reality."
Fenrir and Shami smiled at each other and clasped hands.
“No matter what,” they said in unison, “we will be together.”
The white light engulfed everything. The last thing Frilian saw was the balance between violence and tenderness in Fenrir's eyes, and Xia Mi's figure protecting him.
Back in the real world, Frilian stood before the sleeping dragon and gently stroked its scales: "Hello, Fenrir. May your dreams be filled with sun-drenched schoolyards, endless summers, and that girl who always smiles and calls you 'brother'."
The dragon stirred slightly in her dream, as if in response to her words.
Chapter 199 Frilian and the Contract
With most of her magic depleted, Frillie leaned against Lu Mingfei, her face pale and her breathing rapid.
Forcibly constructing and maintaining such a vast illusion, and resonating with the depths of Fenrir's consciousness, nearly exhausted all her magic. But her emerald eyes remained fixed on the Dragon King, who was lost in profound confusion and sorrow.
She could sense that Fenrir's solid, earth-like shell of consciousness had developed a crack, a faint "possibility," because of the shared illusion they had experienced.
We can't hesitate any longer; we must take advantage of this moment when its mind is off guard.
Frilian straightened up, burning her last remaining magic power along with the power of her spiritual origin! Her hands quickly formed complex and ancient elven hand seals, and she chanted dragon magic that was even more obscure than before, and closer to the rules of the world.
This time, it's not about weaving illusions, but about interfering with reality! It's about forcibly transforming form!
"In the name of nature, we trace back to the origin of the source."
A dazzling green light burst forth from her body, like a miniature green sun, illuminating the entire cave. The light, like living vines, surged wildly towards Fenrir's massive form.
