"These cars are parked way too close together," Lu Mingfei complained as he struggled to stuff a large suitcase into the Hummer's trunk. "I almost crashed into it just now. They have no sense of public decency."
Yuan Zhisheng was completely speechless.
Don't these people have any sense of crisis? Didn't they realize that if the plane had just glided forward a few more meters, the entire Sleibniz would have crashed into the Hummer and turned into a raging fireball?
Lu Mingfei genuinely didn't feel any danger. Although this wasn't his first time flying on a private jet, he had no idea how far a plane needed to taxi for landing. He also didn't find the turbulence particularly frightening.
On the plane, after an unpleasant conversation, all three closed their eyes for a nap. Even Caesar and Chu Zihang felt tired from the tension of the entire journey. They only felt a sudden tremor, and then the plane landed. After the lights came on, they each got up to collect their luggage, changed into the kimonos given to them by the principal, and that was all.
Genji felt he had encountered an unprecedented formidable enemy. The most terrifying enemies are often those you understand least and cannot predict. Compared to these illogical individuals, Sakurai Akira's pure beastly nature was far more predictable.
Based on his memory, he quickly confirmed the identities of the four people:
The number one in the world, Caesar Gattuso, heir to the board of directors, student council president, and the most spoiled of spoiled brats.
Bai He and Ju Hua, Lu Mingfei, is currently the only S-level student in the academy. His grades are above average, but it is said that the principal cherishes this student more than his own folding knife.
Mount Fuji erupts; Chu Zihang, president of the Lionheart Society, is the most ferocious violent student, and was once investigated by the school board for his bloodline.
Lotus Spring Rain and Frilian are listed as unknown, their ability assessment is unknown, and their threat level is temporarily marked as pending observation.
So it seems this group of losers shouldn't be completely underestimated. Genji abandoned his condescending attitude, but his anger hadn't subsided.
After stuffing the last suitcase into the car, Caesar strolled back leisurely. He reached out and snatched the unlit Seven Stars cigarette from Genji's fingers, tossing it into the damp sea breeze. Then, he placed a cigar in a silver aluminum tube into Genji's palm.
“Stop smoking women’s cigarettes,” Caesar said, his eyes revealing a playboyish frivolity, yet also a strange, big brother-like confidence. “Try this, Cohiba, the real Cuban stuff.”
He patted Genjiro's shoulder hard, so hard that Genjiro frowned slightly, and then walked away on his own.
As things spiraled out of control, even Sakura, who had remained calm throughout, was dumbfounded and didn't know where to begin to help.
However, the three lunatics treated Sakura quite well. Genji received a cigar, and Sakura received a small gift from Caesar: a beautifully crafted obsidian Cthulhu figurine, clearly quite valuable. Caesar's respect for beautiful girls naturally far exceeded his respect for handsome men.
When Lu Mingfei received the bouquet of yellow tulips from Ying, he bowed and scraped, repeatedly thanking her in his terrible-sounding Japanese, which he had learned from anime: "Arieto! Arieto messed up Auntie's dead!"
Chu Zihang also nodded slightly to Ying, though his face remained expressionless.
White cranes and chrysanthemums, Lu Mingfei leaned out of the back seat of the Hummer, still sleepy-eyed, waving a hotel business card, and continued speaking in his broken Japanese: "Wa da shi wa Lu Mingfei, dai si, kono."
Genjiro realized that apart from Frilian ignoring him, the other three people were simply treating him like a tour guide for a group of tourists.
Chapter 345 You and Lu Mingfei are equally strong when they get serious
Genjiro took a deep breath, suppressing the anger that was about to burst from his chest, and bowed deeply to the four people in the car. He said in fluent and clear Chinese, "I am Genjiro, a student of the class of 2003 at Kassel College. I was fortunate to receive the guidance of Principal Angers and am currently the Director of the Executive Bureau of the Japan Branch. Welcome to Japan to carry out the mission."
Lu Mingfei was taken aback, blinked, and took a moment to process the meaning of those words. He hadn't expected the tour guide to be a senior student; his attitude earlier had indeed been a bit disrespectful.
So he quickly gave a thumbs up and expressed his apology in a more authentic way: "Yoshi, you, Gen-san, your Chinese is really, really good!"
Genjiro's facial muscles twitched slightly.
On the other side, Chu Zihang, cradling a long sword, leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes. He wasn't wearing colored contact lenses; his golden eyes were too conspicuous, so he took the opportunity to rest.
“Caesar Gattuso,” Genji had no choice but to turn to Caesar, who seemed the most normal. At least compared to that sleazy idiot and the stoic assassin-like man, Caesar was somewhat communicative. “Headquarters Special Mission, are you the team leader?”
"Looking for me? Yes, that's me." Caesar, sitting in the car, waved without turning his head. "Ready to drive?"
He was already in the car, but the guy who picked him up wasn't driving yet, and Caesar was getting impatient. However, he didn't look down on Genjiro at all. The young master of the Gattuso family never looked down on any particular person, because he looked down on everyone.
Genjiro took another deep breath, forcibly suppressing the surging anger within him. He didn't get into the car immediately, but instead pulled a document from the inside pocket of his trench coat and handed it to Caesar.
"This is the document for this meeting. Please sign it."
The document was entirely in Japanese, the paper was crisp, and it bore the logo of the Japanese branch. Caesar took it and glanced at it, but couldn't understand it at all. He didn't understand Japanese; the only person in the group who knew a little Japanese was Lu Mingfei, and even he often had to rely on that crumpled book, "100 Practical Japanese Phrases for Travel."
"What is this?" Caesar raised an eyebrow. "A credit card receipt? Here, take your credit card."
"This is not a credit card transaction. This is the procedure for handling the remains of the victims. The risk level of this mission has been assessed as SS. If any of you unfortunately perish, your remains will be properly handled and airlifted back to your respective hometowns. Please confirm the handling method and delivery address."
Genjiro looked directly into Caesar's eyes, trying to detect a trace of fear or wavering. He wanted to remind these arrogant boys that this was not a romantic trip, but an SS-rank mission where death could be a matter of life and death. If anything went wrong during the mission, they would become cold corpses, silently packed up and transported back to their hometown!
The carriage was silent for a moment.
Then Caesar laughed.
“Excellent, just what I wanted.” He deftly drew his pen and smoothly signed his name in the designated spot on the document. “I don’t want a memorial service in a church in Japan. I’m Italian, so send it to Portofino.”
“Brother Chu and I are both Chinese, and from the same hometown. If we send it together, it will save money,” Lu Mingfei said, leaning out of the back seat and pointing to Chu Zihang, who was resting with his eyes closed.
He spoke as if it were a matter of course, as if he were discussing carpooling home for the weekend.
"As for Frilian, just fill in my address, we live together," Lu Mingfei wrote down his and Frilian's names in a long and flowing manner.
Yuan Zhisheng silently put the documents away, feeling as if he had punched cotton, no, as if he had punched a bottomless sea, without even making a splash. He folded the documents neatly, covered in dust, and stuffed them back into his pocket.
"The Japanese branch is more professional than I expected," Caesar commented, with a hint of approval in his tone. "At least the follow-up work is very well thought out."
Genjiro didn't know how to face it; Caesar was really treating him like a leader on an inspection tour of the countryside.
“A real man smokes Cohiba,” Caesar patted Genjiro’s shoulder again. Within minutes of landing, this Italian man, who was covered in perfume and had blond hair that looked like a large feline, touched his body for the second time. “Cuban stuff, 100% pure, sent by Fingel.”
Although he desperately wanted to step forward and punch Caesar in his self-proclaimed handsome and dashing face, Genji found himself unable to find any excuse to get angry in the face of such a bright, almost foolish smile.
"Well, please take care of me over the next few days," Genji could only manage to say this dry, formulaic politeness before walking around to the driver's side and opening the car door.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Lu Mingfei, who was half asleep, seemed to suddenly remember something important. He leaned out of the back seat again, his eyes shining. "Do the Japanese still have mixed bathing? I've seen it on TV a lot!"
"..." Yuan Zhisheng's knuckles turned slightly white as he gripped the steering wheel.
Maybe he really should have sent Yaksha and Crow to pick them up. He thought to himself. Excluding Frilian, who didn't do anything particularly foolish—she simply poured concrete piles into this desolate salt flat—it didn't seem like such an unacceptable thing after all, right?
The engine started, and the Hummer's massive tires rolled over the uneven ground, heading towards the highway. For a moment, no one spoke inside the vehicle; only the soft patter of raindrops against the windows broke the silence.
Yuan Zhisheng observed the three passengers in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
Lu Mingfei's head was tilted to the side, almost asleep again, a yellow tulip petal still clutched in his hand. Chu Zihang closed his eyes, resting, his posture almost unchanged. The silver-haired girl, Frilian, turned her head to gaze at the dark scenery rushing past the window.
Her presence was peculiar. When she wasn't speaking, she almost blended into the background, so quiet that she was easily overlooked. But once you noticed her, you couldn't look away. It wasn't because of her stunning beauty, although that was certainly impeccable, but because of her aura that was completely out of place with everything around her.
That is a tranquility that has spanned a long period of time, an indifference that has witnessed too many rises and falls.
Genji recalled the look she had given him just now. There was no emotion, no curiosity, no contempt. Like a human looking at an ant at their feet, knowing there's something there, but not paying it any extra attention.
This complete disregard is more unsettling than direct provocation or contempt.
"Is this Ms. Frilian's first time in Japan?" Genji asked, trying to communicate with this most unpredictable member.
Frillie turned her gaze from the window to the rearview mirror, where she met Genji's eyes. His emerald eyes, in the dim light, were like deep pools.
"Yes. Most of this world is a first for me."
"This world?"
“Frilian likes to tell corny jokes,” Caesar interjected lazily, while fiddling with the obsidian Cthulhu figurine.
"So, what is Miss Frilian's impression of Japan?" Genji continued to ask.
Frillie paused for a moment, carefully choosing her words.
“Lively,” she finally said, her gaze shifting back to the hazy glow of the distant Tokyo skyline outside the window.
"I've heard that Miss Frillian possesses special abilities?" Genji asked more directly. "Would you mind revealing them? They might be helpful for mission coordination."
“I can sense magic, or in your words, the flow of energy or bloodline,” she said calmly. “I can also use some magic-based spells. I have some experience in combat.”
It was said casually, but Genji could sense that this slight insight was probably far more complex than it appeared on the surface. From Frilian, he could vaguely perceive a restrained yet unfathomable power.
"Mr. Yuan is very strong."
Yuan Zhisheng was slightly taken aback.
“I can feel the power flowing within you; it’s incredibly strong. It’s about the same level as when Lu Mingfei gets serious.”
After she finished speaking, a brief silence fell over the carriage.
Even Lu Mingfei, who was almost asleep, mumbled "Hmm?" and lifted his eyelids slightly.
Caesar's previously languid expression turned serious. He turned his head and looked at Genjiro with great interest.
"Oh?" Caesar raised an eyebrow. "About the same as when Lu Mingfei gets serious?"
He had witnessed firsthand the power Lu Mingfei unleashed under extreme circumstances. That power was overwhelmingly terrifying, as was the Word of Power: Time Zero. Although unstable, it was a strength that even Caesar had to admit was beyond the realm of conventional understanding.
This Japanese branch executive director, who looked exhausted and like he had been working overtime, was actually described by Frilian as being similar to Lu Mingfei in that state.
This is really interesting.
Genjiro's hands remained steady on the steering wheel, but his heart was in turmoil. Frillian, could she make such a precise judgment merely through her senses?
What exactly does she mean by "the degree"? Is it the concentration of bloodline power? Or the destructive force it can unleash in actual combat?
Moreover, she was referring to Lu Mingfei when he got serious. Just how strong is the seemingly most unreliable and useless S-rank when he gets serious? The intelligence gathered by the Japanese branch shows that opinions on Lu Mingfei are highly polarized, but unstable, difficult to assess, and suspected of possessing unknown high-risk incantations or abilities are recurring keywords.
"Miss Frilian, you flatter me," Genji replied calmly, neither confirming nor denying. "The Japanese branch is merely an executor; its power is used to complete missions, nothing more."
Silence fell again in the carriage. But this silence felt different from before. Genji could sense that, because of Frilian's words, the headquarters members, including Caesar, had a subtle shift in their perception of him and the Japanese branch.
They are no longer just tour guides or local guides.
Rather, they are companions who need to be taken seriously, and may even be objects of vigilance.
The Hummer sped onto the smooth highway, its headlights piercing the rainy night, heading towards the Tokyo metropolitan area. In the distance, a vast, burning sea of light, composed of countless lights, drew ever closer.
Genjiro gazed ahead, his eyes sharpening once more. Regardless of whether these headquarters aces were feigning madness or simply hiding their true abilities, and regardless of how many secrets Frilian concealed, this was ultimately Japan, his home turf.
He glanced at the aluminum tube cigar on the cup holder, thinking that perhaps it wouldn't be bad to try one once in a while.
Chapter 346 The Hunt
"Stop at the black Hummer ahead! We are police officers from Kanagawa Prefecture! The people in the vehicle are suspected of violent crimes. Stop immediately, confess and you will be treated leniently; resist and you will be punished severely! Do not put up futile resistance! Lay down your weapons and surrender!"
The sound, amplified by the loudspeaker, swept across the desolate salt flats like a howling gale. On the highway not far away, the scattered headlights were instantly replaced by a dense, flashing, blinding red light. The piercing sirens suddenly roared, deafeningly loud, as if hundreds of giant beasts were howling simultaneously.
The highway, which had been quiet just moments before, was now filled with police cars of all sizes, forming a steel wall flashing red and blue lights. Fully armed police officers used the car doors as shields, their dark gun barrels all pointing towards the beach, creating a dense line of fire along the highway.
The lights coming from all directions illuminated the abandoned airport as if it were daytime, and completely locked Lu Mingfei and his two lonely black Hummers in the center of the light.
"Holy crap! What's going on?" Lu Mingfei jolted awake, his drowsiness completely gone. He peered out the car window, his face more surprised than fearful. "Our plane has barely come to a stop, we haven't even gotten our visas or passed through customs, how did we attract the police? They're being way too hospitable!"
"This isn't an official airport, so there's no customs," Genji said, his voice relatively calm as he gripped the steering wheel. "Just look to the side and you'll see."
Lu Mingfei then carefully looked around the car window. He hadn't paid much attention while rushing to get out of the rain. What he saw almost made him jump out of his seat!
"What the hell is this place? An airplane graveyard?"
