People whispered among themselves, speculating about who this unknown young man was. Lu Mingfei could feel countless surprised and envious glances falling on him.
The woman from the Western Regions frowned slightly, her red lips parted as if she wanted to raise the price again, but in the end she just shook her head and put down her bidding paddle.
"One hundred million dollars once, one hundred million dollars twice, one hundred million dollars three times! Sold!" The host slammed the gavel down. "Congratulations to Mr. Lu and Ms. Fu, contestants number 17, for winning this legendary sword set!"
Lu Mingfei breathed a long sigh of relief, his tense nerves finally relaxing.
“I bought it,” Frilian said softly.
"Yes, I bought it," Lu Mingfei replied, then realized he was still holding Frilian's hand. He quickly let go, his ears burning.
After the auction ended and they completed the tedious handover procedures, they finally obtained the swords they had longed for in Angers.
“Let’s go, the others should be waiting for us outside,” Frilian nudged the dazed Lu Mingfei.
Pushing open the heavy door, a cool breeze greeted me.
"Senior Brother Lu! Over here!" Xia Mi's voice came from not far away. She stood next to the large modified SUV and waved excitedly at them.
Principal Angers leaned against the car, a large cigar in his hand, a satisfied smile on his face. Chu Zihang remained silent as always, nodding to Lu Mingfei and Frillie.
"Congratulations on our hero's triumphant return," Angers said with a smile, exhaling a smoke ring. "A hundred million dollars, that's quite a sum, Mingfei."
Lu Mingfei scratched his head sheepishly: "Um, Principal, the college will really allocate funds, right?"
Angers laughed and patted him on the shoulder: "Of course, Kassel never breaks his promise to his students."
"That's a hundred million dollars!" Xia Mi jumped in front of Lu Mingfei, her eyes sparkling. "Senior brother, were you just like the protagonist in a movie, coolly tossing out a black card and saying 'Put it on the Kassel College account'?"
Chu Zihang coughed lightly: "Xia Mi, stop fooling around."
“Actually,” Lu Mingfei smiled awkwardly, “I used some special methods.”
Angers stubbed out his cigar: "The means don't matter, what matters is that we've obtained the 'Seven Deadly Sins'."
Mai Shude drove her black sports car away from the opera house, the night wind lifting her long, flowing hair.
She removed her veil with one hand, revealing her beautiful face. Su Enxi's languid voice came through the Bluetooth earpiece: "Did you sell the goods?"
"Yes, successfully delivered to Lu Mingfei," said Mai Jiude, lightly turning the steering wheel as the tires rubbed against the curve.
"One hundred million dollars, the greatest masterpiece of the Bronze and Fire King, is still a bit too cheap. But the Seven Deadly Sins were originally spoils of war that we snatched from that guy wearing a KFC mask."
The image of the man wearing the comical hood appeared before her eyes.
"His bronze throne is quite powerful. Unfortunately, the power of the emotionless girl's words is even stronger than his."
Chapter 65 Henkel, the Cowboy of the West
Angers, with his hands in his suit pockets, hummed an old song from the early 20th century, his leather shoes clicking crisply on the marble floor.
Four young people followed behind him. Xia Mi, chattering like a cheerful lark, kept circling around the taciturn Chu Zihang. Lu Mingfei and Frilian walked side by side, occasionally exchanging a glance.
"Headmaster, where are we going?" Xia Mi skipped two steps forward. "The auction ended half an hour ago, I'm going to starve if we don't go eat soon!"
Angers didn't even turn his head. "Be patient, young lady. Seeing an old friend is much more important than filling your stomach."
“Friends?” Lu Mingfei muttered to himself, “There aren’t many people the principal can call friends.”
At the end of the corridor appeared an elderly man with a cane, dressed as a Western cowboy.
“Angers, it’s been a long time,” the old man said, his voice hoarse.
Angers paused for a moment. "Han Gao, it has indeed been a long time. Was the last time we met at Pearl Harbor in 1941?"
A smile spread across Han Gao's wrinkled face: "Your memory is still so good."
He looked past Angers and sized up Lu Mingfei and the others. "These must be your outstanding students, right?"
“Yes,” Angers replied briefly, his fingers tapping lightly on the folding knife hidden in his sleeve.
Han Gao stepped aside to make way: "Would you like to come in and have a seat?"
“I’m afraid you’ll shoot me.” Angers remained unmoved. “Are you still carrying your alchemical revolver?”
The atmosphere in the corridor was somewhat heavy. Lu Mingfei looked at Frillie, the silver-haired girl's fingers tracing the magic wand, ready to unleash magic at any moment.
"Sixty years have passed, and Angers still holds a grudge?" Henrault shook his head, tapping his cane lightly on the ground. "Your time zero can last for ten seconds now, right? I'm old, just an old man."
Angers scoffed, "I'm not even confident I can evade your 'holy judgment' right now."
Even so, he still stepped forward.
Four students followed closely behind, passing by Han Gao. Lu Mingfei smelled gunpowder.
The room was spacious, with seventeen high-backed chairs arranged in a semi-circle, each chair engraved with a different emblem.
A dozen or so well-dressed young people were sitting down, but when they saw them come in, they all stood up.
“Please sit down,” Han Gao said, pointing to the five empty chairs. “Don’t be shy, just treat this as a gathering of old friends.”
Angers chose to sit in the center, and the students took their seats to his right in turn.
“First, let me introduce you,” Henkel said, sitting opposite Angers with his hands folded on his cane. “These are my family’s younger generation.”
He called out names one by one, and each young man whose name was called nodded slightly.
“As for this side,” Angers raised his hand, “Frilian, A-rank. Chu Zihang, A-rank. Xia Mi, A-rank. Lu Mingfei, S-rank, Word of Power: Time Zero.”
With each name announced, the young man's expression grew more serious.
Upon hearing the words "time zero," someone gasped.
"Time Zero?" a red-haired youth couldn't help but ask, "That's not yours."
“Yes, the same Word of Power as mine,” Angers smiled. “What, didn’t Henkel tell you that another S-rank has emerged in Kassel?”
Henkel coughed. "Young people always lack patience. Angers, the collaboration we discussed last time we met."
“Cooperation is based on shared ideals,” Angers interrupted him. “Sixty years have passed, has your thinking changed?”
The atmosphere in the room became tense.
"Times are changing, and we must change too," Henkel said slowly. "Compared to that, your students are impressive, especially this S-class student."
The blonde woman interjected, "Patriarch Han Gao, I think it's time to discuss the 'New Dragon Clan' plan. Now that the elites of Kassel College are all here..."
“Oh? The new dragon race?” Angers raised an eyebrow.
"The dragon race will perish. The future world will belong to hybrids. Do you want humans to rule this world?" she said, extending her hand.
"So?" Angers laughed.
"We will divide this world among ourselves; we will be the new dragon race!" the blonde woman declared, her eyebrows dancing with excitement.
"Oh, what about the dead, the fallen comrades?"
"They're just dust in history; do the dead even count?"
The conversation abruptly ended.
No one saw what happened. One second Lu Mingfei was sitting quietly in his chair, and the next he was in front of the blonde woman, a short knife pressed against her throat.
A strand of golden hair fell silently.
“My students’ time is zero,” Angers’ leisurely voice broke the silence, “Not bad, right?”
"Ah, just as young and impetuous as you were back then," Han Gao sighed.
Lu Mingfei sheathed his dagger and silently returned to his seat. He was displeased that someone had compared his fallen comrade to the dust of history.
The descendants of the Han Gao family were in an uproar, and several people stood up, their eyes shining brightly with golden light.
"Quiet!" Han Gao slammed his cane on the ground. "How can you be so rude in front of guests!"
Angers slowly rose and straightened his suit cuffs: "All those who aspire to become dragons must die. Han Gao, you have failed in your duty to discipline the younger generation."
The voice was soft, but the words were weighty.
Lu Mingfei had never seen Principal Angers with such an expression; a storm was brewing in his eyes.
“Young people are just ignorant, why bother with them?” Han Gao sighed. “You and I both know that pure-blooded dragons are awakening, and hybrids need a new way out.”
"The way out is not to become a so-called dragon!" Angers interrupted sharply. "It seems we have nothing to talk about."
He turned and walked out, with Lu Mingfei and the others following.
Reaching the door, Angers turned back: "By the way, 'Holy Judgment' is indeed powerful, but now, there are two Time Zero users here. Goodbye, old friend."
Henkel did not respond, but simply watched them leave.
The door closed, and the old man wearily shut his eyes: "Notify the family to be careful of Angers and his student Lu Mingfei."
In the corridor, Xia Mi broke the silence: "Principal! Who exactly is that Han Gao? The way his juniors look at us is terrifying!"
“An old man like me, who has lived too long,” Angers regained his usual lightheartedness, “and his paranoid descendants.”
Chu Zihang frowned: "The new dragon race they mentioned."
“Foolish delusion.” Angers stopped and looked seriously at the four students. “Listen, any attempt to gain power by altering one’s bloodline will lead to tragedy. Maintaining humanity is our greatest advantage in fighting dragons.”
Lu Mingfei asked, "Principal, are you and Han Gao enemies?"
"We used to be, and now we're just old friends who are wary of each other?" Angers smiled. "But after tonight, he should reassess Kassel's strength. Especially you, Mingfei, well done."
Lu Mingfei scratched his head sheepishly: "Principal, you flatter me."
“He has improved a lot,” Frillian said. “Now time zero can be delayed by 3 seconds.”
Angers laughed and patted Lu Mingfei on the shoulder: "See? Even Frilian praised you. Come on, let me treat you to dinner. I know a good restaurant nearby."
Chapter 66 Mr. KFC
The door closed, and the room erupted in chaos.
“That old Angers guy is disgusting,” said Leon Henkel, the most ambitious young man of the third generation of the family. “He’s over a hundred years old and still wears a flashy suit, like an old peacock courting a mate.”
Several young people chuckled softly, but quickly quieted down under Han Gao's gaze.
Henkel sat in a high-backed chair, holding a glass of single malt whiskey in his hand, ice cubes slowly swirling in the amber liquid.
“Never insult Angers’ dead comrades, and never underestimate his determination to slay the dragons,” Han Gao recalled. “What you see is just an old man in a fancy suit; what I see is a vengeful spirit that has survived the Summer Mourning.”
“Grandpa, I don’t understand why we should cooperate with Angers,” Leon asked unwillingly. “Half of the board of directors is already on our side. We just need to win over one or two more.”
