Xia Mi regained her energetic self, as if the heavy conversation from just moments ago had never happened. "Look! Aren't those the headmaster and the others?"
Chu Zihang followed her gaze and saw Lu Mingfei and Frilian standing next to Angers in the waiting area below the Ferris wheel. The two were whispering to each other and occasionally looked up at the Ferris wheel.
"Oh dear, it seems our secret date has been exposed," Xia Mi sighed dramatically.
The pod reached the ground, and the door slowly opened.
Xia Mi dashed forward, shouting, "Principal!"
Angers, with a gentle smile on his face and an ice cream cone in his hand, asked, "Did you have fun?"
Xia Mi flew to Angers like a cheerful little bird and affectionately hugged his arm. "I'm so happy! It's just that my senior brother is so boring. He kept talking about the theory of the Sorrow of Blood."
Lu Mingfei and Frilian exchanged a glance. The latter took two cones of ice cream from the bag and handed them to Xia Mi and Chu Zihang respectively. "Here, vanilla flavor, not as pungent as mint."
"Thank you!" Xia Mi took the ice cream, licked it, and her eyes narrowed into slits with happiness.
She caught sight of the ice cream in Angers' hand and her eyes widened in surprise. "Headmaster! I never expected you to eat mint-flavored ice cream. I thought you were one of those rigid old men!"
Angers laughed heartily, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes smoothing out. "Haha, actually my favorite is lemon flavor, but sometimes I have to try flavors that young people like."
Watching Xia Mi and Angers' intimate interaction, Lu Mingfei felt something was off. Angers was acting like a doting grandfather.
He quietly moved next to Chu Zihang and nudged him with his elbow.
"Senior brother," he said in a low voice.
Chu Zihang tilted his head slightly: "Hmm, what's wrong?"
Lu Mingfei winked and said, "Look, look, not that I'm being nosy, but the principal has stolen your sweetheart away."
Chu Zihang's expression remained unchanged; he simply took a calm bite of his ice cream. "Xia Mi isn't my girlfriend, so why do you say she's my girl?"
Upon hearing this, Frilian nodded and reached out to pull Lu Mingfei back to her side.
"Chu Zihang is right," she said seriously. "You can't just define other people's relationships."
Lu Mingfei raised his hands in surrender: "Okay, okay, I was too talkative. But..."
He grinned mischievously at Chu Zihang, "Senior brother, aren't you jealous of Junior Sister Xia Mi's good relationship with the principal?"
Chu Zihang looked at Xia Mi, who was chatting and laughing with Angers not far away. The girl's eyes were curved into crescent moons as she smiled, and Angers listened to her chattering with a loving expression.
Their interaction was as natural as that of long-time relatives, rather than a principal and students.
“I’m not jealous,” Chu Zihang said.
Lu Mingfei curled his lip: "Senior brother, you're so boring. Shouldn't you be burning with jealousy at a time like this and rush over to assert your dominance?"
“That’s your way of thinking, not mine,” Chu Zihang replied, his gaze unconsciously drifting towards Xia Mi.
Xia Mi sensed his gaze, turned around, and made a face at him.
At that moment, Chu Zihang suddenly realized that Xia Mi was really beautiful.
Perhaps Lu Mingfei is right, Chu Zihang thought.
Perhaps he truly doesn't understand much, doesn't understand what that subtle stinging feeling in his heart is.
"Hey, you guys!" Xia Mi's voice interrupted Chu Zihang's thoughts, "The principal said he's treating us to a roller coaster! A super thrilling roller coaster!"
Lu Mingfei raised his hand in response: "I'm going! I can't miss the principal's treat!"
Frillie shook her head helplessly, but still followed the others.
Chu Zihang stood there, watching Xia Mi walk ahead naturally, arm in arm with Angers, while Lu Mingfei and Frilian followed behind, chatting and laughing.
"Senior brother! What are you daydreaming about?" Xia Mi called out as she turned around, "If you don't come soon, we won't wait for you!"
"Here you are," Chu Zihang said, taking a step forward to catch up.
Chapter 71 The Serpent of Midgard (Part 1)
Lu Mingfei looked up at the steel serpent-like track, his throat bobbing involuntarily.
The roller coaster roared past them at an almost absurd speed, the wind pressure it generated whipping up the stray hairs on his forehead.
250 kilometers per hour, that number kept flashing through his mind, 100 kilometers per hour faster than his fastest record on the highway.
“This is the ‘Midgard Serpent’,” Angers introduced to everyone. “It’s the world’s fastest roller coaster, accelerating from a standstill to its top speed in just 2.5 seconds.”
To prove the principal's words, the roller coaster in front of them plunged down a steep slope of nearly 90 degrees.
Lu Mingfei could clearly see the distorted faces of the passengers in front of him, their screams torn into fragments by the wind, and the screeching sound of the carriage rubbing against the tracks.
He sidled up to Frillie, his voice trembling: "Frillie, that dive angle was definitely 90 degrees, wasn't it? That's practically suicide!"
Frillie didn't answer. She looked at the bend at the highest point of the track, where the roller coaster was almost completely upside down, and the passengers' hair hung down to the ground like seaweed.
Lu Mingfei's stomach churned as well.
"That's awesome!" Xia Mi skipped and hopped over to them, her eyes shining. "We have to ride that! Now! Right now! Immediately!"
Lu Mingfei immediately cast a pleading look at Angers. Chu Zihang could read the expectation in his eyes. The principal was over 130 years old and would definitely refuse such a life-threatening entertainment project.
After all, how could an old man whose life goal is to slay dragons waste his life on a roller coaster?
However, Angers' performance left both Lu Mingfei and Chu Zihang speechless.
He straightened his clothes, his eyes gleaming with childlike excitement: "Great! This looks like so much fun!"
"Headmaster!" Xia Mi cheered, clapping her hands. "Great minds think alike!"
Lu Mingfei's face instantly fell, and Chu Zihang saw him silently mouth the words "It's all over."
“It feels so much fun,” Frilian said, grabbing Lu Mingfei’s wrist and pulling him forward without saying a word.
"Wait, wait! Frillie! I'm not ready yet," Lu Mingfei struggled in vain, like a cat being grabbed by the scruff of its neck.
"Hmm?" Frilian's voice was eerily calm. "You've never been this afraid when facing dragon servants."
Lu Mingfei was dragged a few steps, then turned back: "That's different. Wait! Where's my senior brother?"
Chu Zihang remained standing in the same spot, staring at the ground as if there was something there worth studying intently.
Frillie stopped and tilted her head to look at Chu Zihang: "Afraid of heights?"
"That's ridiculous!" Lu Mingfei blurted out. "How could my senior brother be afraid of heights? He's the kind of guy who can fight Deadpool on a rooftop a hundred meters high!"
Chu Zihang nodded: "Mm."
A single, simple word, so soft it was almost inaudible.
Lu Mingfei's mouth gaped open in an "O" shape, as if he had witnessed some wonder of the world.
After a brief moment of shock, Lu Mingfei, as if grasping at a straw, eagerly leaned closer to Chu Zihang: "Senior brother, why don't we tell the principal and Xia Mi that we prefer the carousel and go ride that?"
Chu Zihang was silent for a moment, his gaze drifting to the carousel decorated with colorful light bulbs not far away. Faint music drifted over, a classic melody from a movie.
"I prefer Winnie the Pooh to the carousel."
"What?" Lu Mingfei wondered if he had misheard.
"Little O Winnie the Pooh honey truck," Chu Zihang explained earnestly, "slowly and steadily, Winnie is harvesting honey with everyone."
Lu Mingfei felt a sense of absurdity; the world had flipped 180 degrees before his eyes.
Chu Zihang, the ace specialist from Kassel College, is currently expressing his fondness for the Winnie the Pooh honey pot truck at the amusement park. This is even more horrifying than seeing the principal wearing a pink Hello Kitty T-shirt.
"Hurry up! What are you dawdling for?" Xia Mi's voice came from afar. She jogged back, her ponytail bouncing merrily behind her head.
Frillie: "I'm trying to persuade Lu Mingfei and Chu Zihang."
Xia Mi's gaze swept over the three of them before finally settling on Chu Zihang's face.
She blinked, then her expression suddenly dawned on her: "Senior brother, you wouldn't happen to be afraid."
"No," Chu Zihang interrupted her, taking a deep breath. "Let's go."
Lu Mingfei stared at him in disbelief: "Senior brother?! How could you betray me!"
Chu Zihang strode forward, his back as straight as ever, only Lu Mingfei noticed that his hands hanging at his sides trembled slightly.
The process of queuing felt like a slow torture. As they drew closer to the starting point, the roar of the roller coaster grew increasingly deafening.
Lu Mingfei kept counting the change in his pocket, as if that would distract him. Chu Zihang kept his eyes off the tracks, studying the Japanese and English translations of the safety instructions.
"It's said that the design of this roller coaster was inspired by Norse mythology," Xia Mi explained enthusiastically, "Jormungandr, the Midgard Serpent, a giant serpent that encircles the entire world. Look, doesn't it look like a giant serpent?"
Lu Mingfei looked up and immediately regretted it.
After waiting in line for quite a while, it was finally their turn.
The staff member was a smiling Japanese girl who skillfully lowered the safety lever for them.
“Make sure the lever is pressed firmly against your thighs,” she said in accented English. “Keep your back pressed against the seat the whole time and don’t try to raise your hands.”
Lu Mingfei muttered to himself, "Who would want to raise their hand in a godforsaken place like this?"
The lever clicked shut, and Lu Mingfei felt a slight dizziness.
He tried to take a deep breath and smelled the lubricating oil on the tracks, mixed with the scent of sunscreen left by the passengers ahead.
Xia Mi swung her legs excitedly in front of him, while Frilian looked around at him.
"It's about to begin!" Xia Mi grabbed Chu Zihang's hand; his palm was warm and dry.
With a "bang," the carriage shook slightly and slowly started moving.
Lu Mingfei could hear the clicking sound of the chain pulling the carriage, each sound like a countdown.
As altitude increases, the field of vision gradually opens up, which should be excellent if the end point is not a vertical dive of 250 kilometers per hour.
Lu Mingfei let out a whimper like a small animal: "I regret it, I regret it so much now."
Frillie sighed and took Lu Mingfei's hand. "Don't be afraid."
Lu Mingfei wanted to say something, but the carriage had already reached its first peak.
For a moment, everything froze. He could see the outline of the distant mountains, the bay shimmering in the sunlight, and the breathtaking vertical drop at the end of the track.
Then, gravity took over everything.
All the sounds were torn apart by the wind. Lu Mingfei subconsciously tightened his grip on Frilian's hand, feeling her grip tighten in return.
The oncoming wind pressure caused his eyes to involuntarily tear up, blurring and distorting his vision.
