"What are these flowers?"
“I tried different healing spells today,” Frilian explained. “The flowers are materialized from magic and are a symbol of blessing.”
"All done," Frilian said, gently stroking her completely healed skin and blowing on it softly.
Lu Mingfei had a misconception that Frilian was treating him like a child.
"Th-thank you," Lu Mingfei stammered, feeling his face burning up again.
Frilian released Lu Mingfei's hand and tidied up the lab table.
“Don’t touch unknown alchemical products next time,” she said with her back to Lu Mingfei, “especially those marked with danger symbols.”
Lu Mingfei scratched his head. "There's no danger sign on the bottle."
Frillie turned around, holding a bottle cap she had picked up from the ground, with an exclamation mark on it. "This is it."
Lu Mingfei's eyes widened. "Wait, I vaguely remember this. The bottle of the drink I had last time also had this on it!"
Frillie thought for a moment, recalling the magic potion she had made herself last time, which she casually placed on the table.
"You drank that magic enhancer directly last time, and it didn't have any effect. I thought it was a failed attempt to make it."
Lu Mingfei recalled that the last time he came to the lab, he thought the medicine on the table was a beverage and drank it all, resulting in him not being able to sleep for three days.
Frillie began tidying up the experimental equipment, while Lu Mingfei helped pick up the scattered papers.
"Shall we continue making alchemical tools today?" Lu Mingfei asked. Frilian carefully put the metal butterfly into a specially made box.
Frillie shook her head. "No, we need to let the lab environment stabilize for a while."
She paused for a moment, then said, "Want to go see the flowers? I heard that the 'Kassel Botanical Society' has many newly cultivated flowers."
Lu Mingfei's heart was racing.
“Okay!” he blurted out, then tried to make his words sound less urgent. “I mean, if you’re free.”
Frillie walked to the door and turned back to look at the hesitant Lu Mingfei.
"Let's go, before it gets dark."
Lu Mingfei quickly caught up, and their shadows gradually lengthened until they merged together.
Chapter 99 Invading the Ice Cellar
On the third basement floor of Kassel College, Fingel leaned back in a recliner, humming a tune, looking relaxed.
The ventilation system overhead hummed, supplying fresh air to this underground space that never sees the light of day.
Fingel's recliner was surrounded by empty beer cans and snack wrappers, giving him the look of a typical nerdy guy.
"What do you think about Caesar and Nono's situation?" Fingel asked, his voice echoing in the empty control room.
A beam of light shone down from the ceiling, illuminating Fingel's stubble-covered face.
A semi-transparent girl named EVA gradually materialized in the light. She was the super artificial intelligence of Kassel College, wearing a dark green school uniform, and looked at Fingel with affection.
"Chen Motong's marriage to Caesar was a decision made by the Gattuso family a long time ago. No one has the right to change it, not even Caesar and Chen Motong themselves."
Fingel pursed his lips, pulled a can of beer from beside the recliner, popped it open, and the foam spilled out and clung to his fingers.
“That’s how it is in big families, you can’t control your own destiny,” he muttered, tilting his head back to take a big gulp. “Caesar is still in the dark, thinking he was in a free-love relationship.”
EVA fluttered gently, and the hem of the school uniform skirt moved automatically without any wind.
“You’ve been very concerned about Lu Mingfei lately. Last week you revised his Magic Mechanics report, the day before yesterday you played games with him, and yesterday you even secretly slipped a box of vitamins into his backpack.”
Fingel choked on his beer and coughed a few times.
"Ahem, I was just bored." He wiped his mouth. "How are that kid's grades lately?"
EVA waved her hand, unfurling a light screen that displayed Lu Mingfei's grades in all subjects.
"All subjects exceeded the average, especially the study of words, which saw a significant improvement."
"Tsk tsk, Frilian and Zero are truly miraculous healers," Fingel said, shaking his beer can. "They're really amazing to have managed to lift Lu Mingfei up."
"Lu Mingfei must have had some kind of story in his past life; he might have saved Zero and Frillie."
EVA stared at Fingel, data flowing in her eyes.
"Why are you so concerned about Lu Mingfei? You need to check his grades, revise his reports, and care about his mental health. You're practically his father now."
Fingel was silent for a moment, and the recliner creaked.
“Well,” he said, looking up at the ceiling, “Lu Mingfei is a gentle kid. He has very little and not many friends. But he will grow up eventually. He is very lonely... As his roommate, of course I have to care about him.”
He paused, "What's more, both the vice principal and the principal have asked me to keep an eye on him."
"Angers and Flamel, mentors?" EVA tilted her head slightly.
Fingel nodded, the beer can deforming in his hand. "Hmm, I wonder what they see in Lu Mingfei."
The control room fell silent, with only the server racks making a slight noise.
EVA floated to Fingel's side, reached out, and gently stroked his messy hair.
Although it was just a virtual contact created by light and shadow, Fingel truly felt that warmth.
“You’ve changed,” EVA said softly. “You weren’t this worrisome before, so proud that not even ten oxen could hold you back.”
Fingel closed his eyes, letting EVA's "hands" run through his hair.
"I have been lonely ever since I lost you."
EVA's expression froze for a moment.
As an artificial intelligence, she shouldn't have such a human-like reaction, but Finger knew that EVA's core code contained too much of his ex-girlfriend's personality data.
“Fen.” EVA was about to say something when she frowned, data flowing rapidly in her eyes. “Someone has infiltrated the underground.”
Fingel sat up straight, the recliner creaking in protest. "How is that possible? Your design is so impenetrable!"
“It’s all because of you,” EVA scolded. “To fight against Pasi Gattuso, you shut down part of my firewall, which gave intruders an opportunity to break in.”
Fingel scratched his head in frustration. "Damn it, those Gattuso bastards, where are the intruders now?"
EVA unfolds a holographic projection, displaying a diagram of the underground structure of Kassel College, with a red dot moving.
"The intruders are moving through underground circulating water pipes and are now heading deeper into the ice cellar."
Fingel stood up, grabbed his coat hanging on the back of the chair; it was wrinkled beyond recognition, and there were suspicious oil stains on the cuffs.
“I’ll go take a look,” he said, pulling a silver pistol from the drawer. It was a modified Desert Eagle, designed by the Equipment Department, capable of firing alchemical bullets specifically designed for hybrids.
EVA looked at him with concern. "You must be careful not to overuse your Words of Power, or it will put a great burden on your body."
Fingel grinned, revealing an unreliable smile.
"Don't worry, I drink milk and take calcium supplements every day," he patted his pocket. "I also brought a special potion that can keep the 'Bronze Throne' running for thirty minutes."
EVA shook her head, knowing she couldn't dissuade him. "At least bring your communicator; I'll provide support whenever needed."
Fingel grabbed a headset from the table, put it on, gave EVA a thumbs-up, and then turned and walked toward the hidden door to the control room.
Behind the door is a narrow maintenance passage leading to the college's vast underground pipe network system.
The passageway was dimly lit, with only emergency lights providing weak illumination.
Fingel navigated the intricate network of pipes with practiced ease, his footsteps barely audible as they were absorbed by the special flooring material.
"EVA, can you confirm the identity of the intruder?" he asked in a low voice.
EVA's voice came through the headset: "Unable to confirm, the other party used jamming devices. But judging from the method of breaching the firewall, it is very professional, and they may be an insider."
Fingel frowned. "Inside? Students or professors?"
“More likely,” EVA’s voice trailed off, “Be careful, the opponent is suspected to be a dragon, and very strong.”
With communications cut off, Fingel cursed and quickened his pace.
The ice cellar is one of the most secretive areas of Kassel College, storing a large number of dangerous items and research materials related to dragons. If anyone were to trespass there...
The dark figure moved silently inside the stainless steel pipe.
Angers' underground water kingdom, with pipelines supplying both fresh and seawater, and alloy filters installed every few hundred meters, should have been impregnable, but now they are all broken.
All the alarms were destroyed, and the ice cellar's defense system collapsed at an alarming rate.
The dark figure flipped over, using the washbasin on its leg to adhere to the smooth inner wall of the pipe.
"Expand the domain," the shadowy figure murmured.
Transparent ripples spread out like waves, and the surging water flowed instantly stopped.
The dark figure bent its forearm, gathered its strength, and slammed its fist into the pipe wall.
This strike was like the legendary martial arts technique "Great Compassion Hand," causing the water, pipe walls, and surrounding rock layers to burst simultaneously under its overwhelming force.
The barrier was removed, the water flow resumed, and under pressure, the dark figure was squeezed out of the pipe.
Chapter 100 A Great Reunion
At the very bottom of the ice cellar lies the Well of Oblivion.
Legend has it that the three Fates reside here, judging all things in the world. It is eerily quiet, devoid of any living soul. The walls are covered in frost that has remained frozen for millennia.
The dark figure stood at the edge of the well, with bottomless darkness beneath its feet.
She took out a pair of flaming sticks from her pocket, picked one up and threw it forcefully into the air. The flaming stick traced an arc, and the orange-red flame drew a streak of light in the darkness, like a shooting star shooting upwards.
However, there was only endless darkness above. With a 'whoosh,' the burning stick fell to the distance and went out instantly, leaving only a wisp of smoke rising.
“Deeper than I imagined,” the shadowy figure muttered to itself, its voice echoing in the empty well.
She raised another burning stick, the flames crackling and illuminating the surroundings.
Countless intricate golden patterns appeared and disappeared on the ice wall. This was the alchemical matrix that Kassel College was proud of, a defense system built by Vice Principal Flamel.
The outermost layer is a simple pentagram, gradually becoming more complex as you move inwards.
The power of words tangibly surrounded the matrix, blue specks of light floated in the air, yellow ripples occasionally flashed across the ground, and several undying flames hovered above the matrix.
The three elements achieve a perfect balance, creating a cyclical alchemical realm.
