America: A Prodigy of Stereotypes
Page 118
It seems that Li Qun's performance has exceeded Wang's expectations, and Wang's choice regarding interference in Li Qun's life is gradually shifting towards letting Li Qun go to the "wilderness".
Is life a wilderness, or a track?
In Wang's eyes, letting Liqun roam freely was like letting him wander into the wilderness of life.
In Li Qun's mind, he was moving forward along the path of life.
At first, Li Qun only planned to study hard, go to university, graduate and find a job step by step, make a name for himself in America, and then leave North America to return to Aurora and start his stable life.
Being chosen by his father and the Golden Cudgel was like a change of course in his life, but the final destination of the course remained the same. Li Qun still decided to return to Zhen Dan, and if possible, he would also bring Peter and Gwen there to live, so that they could have a couple of good days.
What happened tonight is like a pebble rolling down the track of life. Li Qun doesn't think this small pebble will cause his life train to derail.
When Li Qun visited the museum during the day, she noticed the museum's security system. The museum does not have cameras and mainly relies on manpower to protect the museum's collections and exhibits.
That makes sense.
If cameras were installed, the exhibits that come to life after midnight would be recorded on video. Once the surveillance footage is seen, it would attract more than just tourists to the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
There are a total of 92 "Precautions" items, while Liqun initially thought there were only 29.
Fortunately, most of the exhibits are in sturdy, transparent glass cases. The museum had considered the possibility of visitors hitting the glass, so they used a particularly strong glass material. The exhibits of people and animals that were resurrected at midnight are all in the cases and cannot come out on their own.
The revived exhibits that draw attention to in the "Notes" section are all exhibits with open booths.
The idea that lions "eat people" is just alarmist talk.
Li Qun and Akamanla entered the African mammal exhibit. During the day, the lion specimens were placed in the center of the African pavilion. After the lions revived at midnight, they lay lazily with half-closed eyes, showing no predatory intent towards Li Qun and Akamanla. On the contrary, the male lion in the pride seemed somewhat afraid of Li Qun, leading the lionesses and cubs to retreat to a corner.
Liqun, adhering to the "rules," chose to lock the doors of the African pavilion. If the lion doesn't bite itself, it might bite something else that has been resurrected.
"Hey, Columbus, where are you going?"
"I'm looking for my ship, it's time to board!"
“There are no ships left in the New World to carry you,” Li Qun told Columbus.
The "Notes" section specifically mentions Columbus, who will flood the museum after finding the aquarium.
Li Qun knocked the bronze statue of Columbus unconscious with a loud "thud" using his golden cudgel, and then had the white marble lion carry the unconscious Columbus on its back.
Most of the resurrected animals only need to be kept in one place and then left alone. The troublesome ones are the resurrected historical figures.
Li Qun glanced at his Stark Square digital watch; more than an hour had passed since he started volunteering at the museum.
We can't spend the whole night in the museum, and we can't stay up until dawn, because Liqun still has to go to school after dawn.
Li Qun wasn't worried about being blocked inside the museum by the NYPD after triggering the museum's alarm. The efficiency of the NYPD varies depending on their pay; the period after midnight is the least efficient time for them.
After wandering around to the cultural and historical exhibition area, Li Qun used force to resolve the ongoing "Civil War" puppet show, and then mediated the dispute between the ancient Roman army and the Western cowboys.
On the way, they unexpectedly encountered President Roosevelt on horseback.
President Teddy Roosevelt, ever the friendly type, joined Li Qun's group and asked him in a warm and friendly manner how old he was and why he was volunteering at the museum in the middle of the night.
The Museum of Natural History has a gallery called the Theodore President Memorial Museum. Outside the museum stands a bronze statue of Teddy Roosevelt on horseback, flanked by statues of a Black man and an Indian man.
Upon seeing the statue of the president in front of the museum, Li Qun formed a very bad first impression of this unfamiliar American president.
"Now there's only one last thing left."
Li Qun fanned himself with the "precautions" and turned to look at Pharaoh Akamanra, who had been following him.
"Do you really have to lock me up?" Akamara asked.
“You are the Pharaoh,” Li Qun said.
What happened to the Pharaoh?
"Pharaoh...did you build your own enormous tomb?" Li Qun asked.
"Of course, the Pharaoh needs his own tomb."
“The pharaohs of ancient Egypt were all tyrants in legend, enslaving millions of people to build their own palaces after death,” Li Qun said to Akamanra.
"I am not a tyrant, I am a very kind monarch."
“If we’re talking about tyrants, my brother is the only one who could become a pharaoh,” Akamanra said.
"This is the modern stereotype of the pharaohs of ancient Egypt," Li Qun said.
"I've also heard that the pharaohs of ancient Egypt were actually aliens, and that the backs of your heads all look like aliens."
“Didn’t you see my head?” Akamara pointed to her head.
“Consanguineous marriage can lead to deformities. Historians of ancient Egypt say that the pharaohs did this to maintain the purity of their bloodline.” Li Qun looked at Akamanra.
“Okay, I’m actually an alien. I’m an alien monarch who ruled over ancient civilizations on Earth.” The young Akamara gave up trying to explain to Liqun.
Chapter 55: Every one of them is a diplomat and a military strategist.
Akhamra lay back in his pharaoh's coffin.
Before sealing the coffin, Li Qun carefully inquired about Akamanra's needs, and carefully wrapped his head with a shroud, leaving a few gaps for Akamanra's eyes, nostrils, ears and mouth, so that he could be more comfortable when wrapped in the "confidential delivery" form.
"Good night."
Goodnight.
Li Qun greeted Akamanla through the seam of the coffin.
“Wait…” Akamara knocked on the coffin lid.
“Mr. Akamanra, it’s tiring to talk like that.” Li Qun squatted down next to the coffin, pressing his ear against the seam of the coffin.
"Are you coming again tomorrow night?" Akamara asked.
"Tomorrow night?"
“If you’re coming tomorrow, I’ll let you know before sunrise, before you leave the museum,” Li Qun said.
"Ok."
Akamara's voice was muffled inside the coffin. If it weren't for the slight loosening of the bandages when Li Qun wrapped them, the young Akamara wouldn't have been able to utter a sound at all.
“I feel like you’ll be coming here often in the future,” Akamanra said.
"Do you come often? I'll prepare in advance next time," Li Qun said.
"What should we prepare?"
“Perhaps I’ll prepare for Roosevelt, in his wheelchair, to wake up in the museum,” Li Qun said.
The benevolent father of America, the "great" thirty-second President of the United States.
"Child, who are you talking about?" Mr. Teddy Roosevelt was still beside Li Qun.
"They are your distant relatives."
"Mr. Theodore, do you not care about modern politics after your resurrection?" Li Qun asked the twenty-sixth President of the United States, who was dressed like a Boy Scout.
“No, I know perfectly well that I am just a mannequin; the real Roosevelt is already buried.” The wax figure of the president replied to Li Qun.
“Eighty percent of the trouble in museums is that most of them don’t realize they are just replicas of a memorial.”
Li Qun discovered that Mr. Teddy's intelligence level far exceeded that of other resurrected models.
It is very likely that the reason why there is a memorial museum for President Teddy in the Natural History Museum, which details his life in history, is that the wax figure of President Teddy was filled with enough information when he was resurrected.
Pharaoh Akhamara had similar reasons, besides being the real person and not a wax figure.
The museum reconstructed the tomb and chambers of Pharaoh Achamanra and named it the Temple of Achamanra. The walls of the temple are covered with unintelligible ancient Egyptian writing, murals, and reliefs.
Akamanla told Liqun that "Easter Night" does not happen every night, but rather follows the phases of the moon.
Easter Night only occurs a few days after the full moon.
Li Qun thought that the Mid-Autumn Festival had just been held a few days ago, and the moon is fullest on the 16th of the lunar month, so the timing was really coincidental, and he had encountered such a mysterious event.
“Mr. Roosevelt, I have school tomorrow. Could you look after the museum for the rest of the night? The museum security guards are missing today.” Li Qun turned around and said to Teddy Roosevelt.
"I'm puzzled too."
“Son, you can leave this to me.” Roosevelt smiled at Li Qun.
"While I don't care about politics outside the museum, I do care about education."
After searching every corner of the American Museum of Natural History in New York, Li Qun couldn't find any trace of the "wizard." He felt that the security guards were avoiding him. Since that was the case, he decided to leave the museum.
“Going to school is the right thing to do.”
"Has America now reached a level of civilization where every child can go to school?" Roosevelt asked with concern.
"Uh, that's not quite right."
"Although there is compulsory education, the situation varies from state to state. Some families do not send their children to school; instead, they study at home, and the parents submit their children's homework to the government at fixed times to check, thus proving that their children are receiving the necessary education."
"Even when people go to school to receive education, there are huge gaps in teaching quality between public schools and between public and private schools."
"The Midtown High School I attended was known as a private school among public schools. It was a public school that the New York City government focused on, used to bolster the image of New York's education system."
“Even though they’re both public schools, the teaching quality at the school my cousin attends is much worse. My cousin still can’t recite the multiplication tables fluently,” Li Qun quickly told Teddy Roosevelt.
"Is that right?"
"That's fine too."
“It’s much better than no education at all,” Teddy Roosevelt said.
“Some schools’ education can hardly be called education,” Li Qun said.
"I'd better say less, in case you suddenly run out of the museum one day."
"Would I be that angry?" President Roosevelt shook his head and smiled.
"The America you live in can be described as 'classical.' The period after World War II was America's 'golden' age. Now we are entering an unknown new era. Will it be 'bronze,' 'silver,' or 'iron'?"
"I know these terms come from ancient Greek mythology, right? Bronze humans, silver humans, and gold humans." Teddy Roosevelt pointed at Li Qun with a smile.
Seeing that Mr. Roosevelt was changing the subject, Li Qun nodded in agreement and headed towards the museum's entrance hall. Roosevelt also headed towards the entrance hall; his booth was in the same direction.
“I have another question,” Roosevelt asked from behind Li Qun.
Li Qun's legs are longer than Da Tong's, so Da Tong needs to walk at a very fast pace to keep up with Li Qun's speed.
"What's the problem?"
