America: A Prodigy of Stereotypes
Page 165
"Helen, is this how you usually act?" Wade nestled against John Wick's chest, turning his head to ask Helen. John Wick remained expressionless, letting Wade do as he pleased.
John could only suppress the urge to beat Wade, since the man himself had driven to his home.
"I love movie marathons; I'll stay awake until dawn."
Wade sat down on the sofa and nestled into it as if he were at home.
"Liqun, will you compete with me for first place?" Wade turned to Liqun and asked.
“I don’t know, I might fall asleep in the middle of the night and then open my eyes before the movie ends,” Li Qun said.
"Oh, so you're cheating."
"You have to participate in the whole process, and you have to come in first place."
“Wade, I’m not a JP person,” Li Qun said.
"Okay, I misunderstood the stereotype."
"You should rent kung fu movies, old-fashioned Cantonese and Hong Kong movies, where old masters with white eyebrows and white beards teach us kung fu!"
Wade sprang up from the sofa with a somersault, made a few kung fu moves as if he were doing kung fu, and beckoned to Li Qun.
Li Qun made a starting gesture towards Wade, suddenly wanting to test Wade's fighting skills.
“Let’s have a match,” Wade said.
“Hold my hand,” Li Qun said.
Wade obediently grabbed Li Qun's wrist.
Li Qun's free hand struck at Wade, startling Wade into quickly turning his head and backing away to dodge.
"I almost fell for it!"
"I'm going to turn off the light." John pressed the switch.
With the lights off, the only light source in the room was the television, and everyone snuggled up on the sofa to watch a movie.
The first movie shown was Forrest Gump.
……
As the night passed, Wade squinted at the credits scrolling across the television screen.
Wade slowly turned his head to look at Li Qun, who rubbed his eyes and got up to go to the bathroom.
"I'm the champion of staying up all night." Wade looked down at the little pug in his arms, who was fast asleep.
"I'm going to sleep for a while."
Wade closed his eyes and instantly fell asleep.
Li Qun came out of the bathroom, walked quietly to the sofa, lay down in her original spot, and closed her eyes to catch up on sleep.
When Li Qun opened his eyes again, it was one o'clock in the afternoon, and there was a noise coming from the kitchen.
Li Qun got up to check and saw that John was in the kitchen preparing brunch for them.
"The rice cooker looks like it's heating up, right?" John Wick asked Li Qun in a low voice.
Liqun nodded in response.
"I cooked another pot of porridge, can I borrow your rice cooker?"
Li Qun continued to nod.
"Maybe we should get a rice cooker for our home, what do you think?"
Liqun nodded again.
“OK.” John was amused by Li Qun’s constant nodding.
"John, what kind of porridge did you cook?" Li Qun asked in a low voice.
"I've added corn kernels and beef to Asian rice, sprinkled a little cinnamon powder and salt. What do you think?" John Wick asked, arms crossed, staring at the rice cooker.
"As long as the flavor isn't too complicated, it's a good porridge," Li Qun said.
“It should work,” John Wick said uncertainly.
"If you find the flavor a bit too rich, you can add some shredded green vegetables," Li Qun suggested.
Is it too late to release it now?
“Sliced greens cook very quickly.”
John Wick began processing the greens, cutting them into shreds as thin as hair.
“Liqun, could you give me some porridge recipes? I saw Helen really liked the porridge you made yesterday.” John looked up at Liqun.
"Of course, the recipe for porridge is not complicated."
Li Qun and John were chatting in the open kitchen when the aroma of corn and beef porridge gradually spread, waking up the few people who were still asleep.
Wade was woken up by the puppy in his arms licking him with its tongue, and he himself was drooling.
"What is this? It smells so good." Wade wiped his mouth.
Wade walked into the kitchen and rested his chin on John Wick's shoulder.
"Honey, I'm hungry. What shall we eat?"
John Wick disgustedly pushed Wade's head off his shoulder and showed him the porridge he had cooked.
"This is so bland, is there no meat? I am the lion of Algeria, I want to eat meat!"
“Do you want me to cut off a piece of your thigh and stuff it into your mouth?” John asked Wade.
"No need."
Li Qun stood beside the soup pot, stirring the bottom with a ladle. Wade looked over curiously, staring at the thick soup in the pot.
"What is this?" Wade asked Li Qun curiously.
"Tomato and egg drop soup," Liqun replied.
“This is more to my liking; it reminds me of my grandma’s tomato soup,” Wade said with a smile.
Li Qun turned off the stove and brought the tomato and dumpling soup to the table. Everyone sat around the table to drink the soup and porridge.
In winter, you should eat some soupy or brothy foods; drinking them will warm you up from head to toe.
“Peter, where did you see him sleeping last night?” Harry asked Peter.
"I don't quite remember. The part I do remember is that the woman sings and the man dies..." Peter's head was fuzzy, and he wasn't fully conscious. He was half-automatically holding a bowl and drinking the noodle soup.
"Was it a happy ending?" Harry asked.
“It’s a good ending; the main villain died in the end,” Liqun said to Harry.
"Ding~!" The oven beeped, and the unnoticed potato wedges were ready. A complete meal is complete when paired with crispy on the outside and soft on the inside potato wedges.
“I remember some schools organize spring outings. Does your school organize spring outings?” Helen asked Gwen and the others.
"No."
“The school only organizes field trips in the fall,” Gwen said.
"What a pity."
"Ultimately, it's because the school has limited funding," Wade interjected.
"Where can we go on a spring outing? Is the school organizing a trip to Central Park?" Harry asked.
After they had filled their stomachs, it was time for Li Qun and the others to go home. Wade was driven home by John Wick.
Helen cleaned the kitchen at home, and when John Wick returned, he saw his wife sitting at the dining table, lost in thought.
"What are you thinking about?" John asked softly.
“When I recover, I want to go to school and become a teacher,” Helen said to John.
"You can stay at home."
Chapter 115 The Power of Color
In his study at the Sanctuary of the Holy See in New York, Bruce Banner wrote the last word in his notebook, completing his study of Journey to the West.
It wasn't because the books and materials about "Journey to the West" in the Kamar-Taj Library were difficult to study, but rather because he integrated the study of "Journey to the West" with his learning of Chinese.
During this nearly six-month period, Dr. Banner learned thousands of Chinese characters through the original novel and TV series "Journey to the West," mastered Chinese writing, and learned everyday conversations in modern Chinese through communication with Li Qun.
Bruce Banner grabbed the notebook and stepped through the portal into Old Man's Pawnshop.
“It’s Sunday today, am I right?” Banner looked at his father.
"It's Sunday. Liqun went to a friend's house and hasn't come back yet." The old man blew on the tea and took a sip.
"Dad, take a look at my notes."
"Want your dad to check your homework?" The old man took Bruce Banner's notebook and looked at the Chinese characters that Banner had written in a neat and orderly manner.
Banner's notebook contained a compilation of various characters, magical treasures, and tribulations from "Journey to the West," as well as all the numbers and data that appeared in the novel, along with his rigorous thinking.
"This word is misspelled." The old man circled Banner's misspelled word.
"Remember to copy it twenty times."
Banner bent down to check where he had written his words wrong, and his father wrote the correct words next to Banner's mistakes.
My father's handwriting is extremely beautiful; it could be collected as a work of calligraphy.
"When will I be able to write as well as you?" Banner asked.
"It will take at least five or six years of practice," the old man said optimistically.
Witches and wizards live long lives. Banner examined his own cells and his cells after transforming into the Hulk. Even if he hadn't become a wizard, his life would still have been quite long. Five or six years is just a small part of his foreseeable long life.
Li Qun pushed open the door and entered, and the crisp doorbell rang.
Li Qun placed the movie videotapes he had finished watching on the counter, put them back in their original places in the cabinet one by one, and then turned around to update the movie videotape rental record to "returned" on his father's laptop.
"Dr. Banner, you're here too?"
"How was the party? Did you have fun?" Banner asked Li Qun.
