“Peter, would you like to come to my house this weekend? You can ask my father for advice in person; he would be very happy to do so.”
Chapter 160 Chemistry Teacher
"Dad, are you free later?" Stephanie asked.
"What's wrong? Are you in trouble?" Walter White, whose hair had fallen out due to chemotherapy, glanced at his most prized daughter.
“Dad, do you remember Peter? The boy who followed the real estate manager around when we were looking for a house.”
“Peter Parker, I remember him, a fake man, I saw right through him,” Walter White said casually.
"This is his notebook. He wants to ask you a few questions. Please take a look."
Walter White frowned as Stephanie left the dining table and went to the bedroom to retrieve Peter Parker's notebook.
Walter White put down his knife and fork and picked up Peter's chemistry notebook to read.
"Are students at Midtown High School in New York at this level?" Walter White asked Stephanie with a puzzled look.
"No, Peter is a genius. His friends say he's the second smartest person in school."
"Who is the smartest person?" Walter White asked curiously.
"He's Peter's good friend, a descendant of Aurora, named Lyon."
“Hmm.” Walter White nodded, and an image of a bespectacled, nerdy Asian man instantly popped into his mind—a stereotypical image.
“Have Peter come to me this weekend, and I’ll answer his questions in person,” Walter White said.
“That’s what I suggested to Peter too, and now it’s great that you both agree,” Stephanie said happily.
"Are you doing well at the new school?" Walter White asked with concern.
"It's great. I made friends with Peter and his friends on the first day. They're planning to start a club in their senior year of high school, which sounds pretty good."
"What kind of club is it? Stephanie, are you involved?" her mother, Skylar White, asked.
"A kung fu club. Lyon knows kung fu and teaches Peter kung fu. These new friends all know kung fu, and they want to promote kung fu culture."
Walter White nodded, his stereotypes reinforced once again.
He was pleased with the new friends his daughter had made at school—a few bookworms who also liked kung fu, making it extremely unlikely they would get involved with dangerous drugs.
"If your new friends are free this weekend, you can invite them over to play together."
As Walter White spoke, he looked at his youngest son, Walter Jr.
"Son, have you made any new friends at school?"
Little Walter looked up and nodded listlessly.
“Michael was a really nice guy. When I was almost late for class, he would carry me on his back and rush me to the classroom,” Walter said.
"Michael's father is a New York police officer and his mother is a school teacher. His mother told him to take good care of me."
Walter White nodded slightly, a quiet sense of guilt towards his son welling up inside him.
Moving his family from the rural southwest of America to New York, a cosmopolitan metropolis in the northeast, was a considerable challenge for his wife, daughter, and son. He himself had lived and worked in New York for a period of time and had a few old friends there, but he hadn't yet visited them.
After dinner, Stephanie was washing dishes in the kitchen for her mother, Skylar, when Walter White took Peter's notebook to the study and began writing in it, giving simple answers to Peter's questions while also setting a test for him.
……
……
"Dr. Banner, what have you done?"
"This is an elastic band, it's great for exercising."
Bruce Banner modified the Peter spider silk protein collected by Liqun and made an elastic band. He used the spider web elastic band to do stretching exercises.
"It won't slip when you hold it. Look at its elasticity and toughness, even the Hulk could use it."
"Ok."
“Material improvement needs to be done step by step. Several thousand experiments are not enough. Li Qun, you need to be patient,” Dr. Banner said to Li Qun.
Li Qun picked up the experimental list and counted them one by one. The number of items meant they would have to test the improved spider silk protein composite material as many times as there were items.
"Is this the only clumsy way we can do?" Li Qun asked Dr. Banner.
“I think this is a safer approach; taking a longer route is taking a shortcut,” Dr. Banner said.
"Ok."
“Don’t be as irritable as the monkeys on Mount Emei, you know?” Dr. Banner said.
"Dr. Banner, have you been to Mount Emei?" Li Qun looked at Bruce Banner.
“Dad took me hiking on Mount Emei. There were a lot of monkeys, but the scenery was nice too,” Banner told Liqun.
"Did Dad travel the world after he learned how to use teleportation?" Li Qun asked.
"What's wrong? Isn't it common for older people to travel around the world? You don't think Dad really enjoys running the pawn shop all by himself, do you?" Banner said.
"No, I don't think so. I'm just a little worried about your illegal entry when you're traveling."
“Ordinary people need to buy tickets for scenic spots in Aurora, but we don’t,” Dr. Banner laughed.
"Liqun, take this elastic band to school and see how long it takes for it to break down."
"So this elastic band is for solving the problem of the natural decomposition of Peter's spider silk protein?" Li Qun took the elastic band from Dr. Banner.
“It’s not just that problem.” Dr. Banner shook his head.
After putting away the spider silk elastic band, Bruce Banner continued running the experiment with Liqun.
After the spider silk protein samples were used up, Bruce Banner sent Li Qun to collect spider silk left behind by Peter from all corners of New York.
Peter would sneak out every night, leaving behind a considerable amount of spider silk each time. For Peter, the spider silk he sprayed was disposable, but for Lillian and Dr. Banner, Peter's spider silk was reusable.
Li Qun stayed up all night again, and he gradually realized how hard it was to do scientific research and experiments.
He imagined Norman Osborn also undergoing this torment, and it's understandable that a Green Goblin personality would emerge from that.
……
The weekend arrived quickly, and Li Qun, Peter, Harry, and Gwen accepted Stephanie's invitation to visit her home.
"Hello, Mr. Walter White!"
Harry was very enthusiastic, giving Walter White a hug right away. Peter and Liqun, seeing this, also gave Walter White a warm hug.
"You guys, okay."
Walter White sensed the excellent student aura emanating from Peter, Lillian, Gwen, and Harry, and smiled at them.
“I brought some ingredients. If it’s alright, I can cook lunch,” Li Qun said to Mr. White.
"Really? Is it Chinese food?" Walter White asked expectantly.
“I’m a pretty good chef, about a third as good as my uncle who runs a Chinese restaurant. I’ve cooked for many of our gatherings,” Li Qun told Walter White.
Chapter 161 Target Marked
In the White family's kitchen, Li Qun placed the items he had brought on the dining table one by one. Every time Li Qun took something out of his backpack, Mr. Walter White would take a closer look.
"Frying pan, vegetable oil, Coca-Cola, chicken wings, garlic..."
"what is this?"
Walter White picked up a few peppercorns and asked Li Qun, his brow furrowing slightly.
"This is Sichuan peppercorn, an ancient oriental spice. When you eat it, it makes you feel the static sound of a TV screen when there is no signal."
Walter White put a peppercorn in his mouth, chewed it gently a couple of times, and soon felt a numbing sensation in his mouth.
"Ow!!"
"This thing bites!"
Mr. Walter laughed as he spoke, deliberately making a joke at the age of the children.
“This is the first time I’ve ever seen such a wonderful spice,” Walter White said.
“This is a nine-story pagoda, am I mistaken?” Walter White asked.
"Yes, it's a nine-story pagoda."
"Are you planning to use these to make chicken wings?" Walter White asked, picking up a can of Coke.
"Cola chicken wings are delicious. We make this dish every weekend when we have a get-together," Li Qun said.
"Really? Won't chicken wings made with cola taste weird?" Little Walter asked, leaning on his crutches as he stood by the dining table.
"It tastes great. When cooking, the cola acts like a syrup, coating the chicken wings with a wonderful flavor," Li Qun said.
“This is the chemistry of food,” Li Qun said.
Walter White watched with a smile as Li Qun prepared the cola chicken wings, arms crossed.
The whole process was well-organized and orderly. After watching the whole process, Walter White felt that he could make cola chicken wings too.
Li Qun lifted the lid of the frying pan, and the aroma spread throughout the kitchen and into the living room on the first floor.
"It smells so good!!" Stephanie exclaimed, smelling the aroma coming from the kitchen.
Liqun took the cola chicken wings out of the pot, plated them, and sprinkled them with roasted sesame seeds to announce that the cola chicken wings were ready.
"It's a bit hot, let it cool down before eating," Li Qun said.
After waiting a few minutes until the cola chicken wings were no longer too hot to eat, everyone picked up a cola chicken wing and started eating.
Walter White ate his cola chicken wings, his expression constantly changing. When all that was left in his hand were the clean chicken bones, he couldn't help but lick his fingers, savoring the complex sweet and salty taste of the cola chicken wings.
“If I hadn’t seen you make it with my own eyes, I would have suspected you’d added something,” Walter White said.
"Joining something that makes you feel like you're floating on air? No decent person would do that," Li Qun said with some disgust.
We made a pot of cola chicken wings, and everyone finished it after sharing one. Liqun had plenty of ingredients left, enough to make two more pots.
“Let me try. Liqun, could you give me some pointers?” Stephanie asked.
"Of course I'd be happy to offer guidance."
