Reincarnated As A Chameleon And Eating Everything To Evolve
Chapter 148 - We Can't Let Them Have It
Spending a full minute celebrating their success on casting the fireball Hado*** spell by jumping around together, Matthew and Ethan finally calmed themselves down and noticed that the twins had come over to check what just happened to them.
"Sorry twins, there's nothing to worry about, your eldest brother has just succeeded in creating and casting a powerful spell for the first time!"
"Look at that rock!" Matthew said while pointing at the charred rock near the wolf's den entrance.
"Hehehe, it is indeed quite a useful spell that I can use to fight for real!" Ethan said while rubbing his own head.
"If I could hit a deer or a boar with that then they would certainly receive significant damage. It could also be a fatal one if I aimed them towards the right place such as their hearts or their faces!"
Ethan had been refraining himself from using magic in combat since it takes a while to chant and summon fire using magic and he wasn't confident enough in the firepower that he's able to pour out using his magic.
Although his fine control of the fire element and the fire itself was way more than just ordinary or normal, the volume was too minuscule to deal a considerable amount of damage to the boars or deers. Hence why he only used his magic to light up the campfire to cook their meals.
His little fire might be able to catch on to the beasts' fur or skin, but after learning from his own experience, that little amount of fire can be extinguished easily by hitting them against the ground or in the beasts' case against a tree that can be found literally everywhere in the forest.
However, the firepower from doing the H****** is big enough to completely char a rock the size of his own head on one side while also coloring the ground near it a light shade of black. With that amount of fire, now Ethan was confident that his magic spell won't be useless anymore.
He still needed to find a way to integrate the spell so that he could use it while moving his body around and not just stand still while casting the spell. But it's a problem to think about later as he was still happy that he had just succeeded in casting the spell.
"But, I'm not the one who made the spell, it was brother Matthew! Where do you learn it, brother? You don't even know how to use magic, but you know such an amazing ability! I don't know that by simply saying a word it could make me stronger! It makes me want to say it over and over again so that I can get infinitely stronger!"
"No, wait, about saying it over and over again I don't think it's a good ide-"
"Hadouk**! Hadou***! Hado****!"
"Wait, Ethan, no please sto-"
"Had*****!!! Ha******!!! H********!!!!"
"Can you please at least change the name…"
"********!!! ********!!!"
"********!!! ********!!! ********!!!"
"ALRIGHT STOP BOY! DON'T SAY THAT AGAIN!!"
"Ha- Why? It felt so good saying that word! Remembering the feeling of power welling up inside me and the elements gathering in my hands, I just want to do it again! Had-"
"NO! PLEASE! AT LEAST CHANGE THE NAME!"
After hearing Matthew shout with a serious expression plastered on his face, Ethan then finally stopped for real.
"It's okay to do the move and the spell, but you must not say that word anymore!"
"I understand brother Matthew… But why?"
"I don't know the reason why, but I got a hunch that our story will end here if you continue saying that word…"
"???"
Ethan's face was full of question marks as he heard Matthew's answer, but he didn't say anything anymore and promised not to say that word again after Matthew told him to just believe in him.
"Alright, Ethan, I think now you have found something you can experiment and improve on?" Matthew asked Ethan who had partially forgotten about the fact that his physical strength is slightly inferior compared to the twins.
"Yes, brother! Although controlling a larger amount of fire elements normally is still quite hard for now, I think that move has given me a little inspiration on how to increase the intensity of fire elements that I gathered without losing control over them."
"And I also need to train in controlling the fire without using my magic staff, I have a few ideas in mind where I can use both magic and fight at the front at the same time if I'm able to do it really well!"
"That's nice then! I wish you the best!" Matthew said, patting Ethan's shoulder.
Matthew then looked at the twins who are still standing on the side looking at the two of them as if still asking for an explanation of what's happening here.
The twins had their interest intrigued when they heard about that magical word, but before they were able to try and say the word, Matthew quickly told them that it's already become a forbidden word and made them promise to not say it anymore. Which saddened the twins as they couldn't get the opportunity to experience the boost in power that Ethan had just felt.
And looking at the rock which is completely charred black on one of its sides a few meters away, the twins somehow figured out that the word must have given Ethan a massive power boost and it made them even gloomier.
Looking at the twin's expression, Matthew sighed and finally said,
"You two can say it and ask Ethan how to properly say it later. But, please! Don't ever say it where I can hear it! You should walk a few hundred meters into the forest and make sure that I can't hear you at all first before saying it? Understand?"
"Yes! Thank you, brother Matthew!"
The group then spends the rest of the day doing their own thing. Matthew tried making aura constructs with the little amount of aura he had left and tried to plan out his next evolution better while the twins continued sparring before they were exhausted and refilled the water container at the lake and Ethan is busy practicing to maintain a small little fire floating beside him without using his magic staff while he slowly walks around the place.
When night came, the group went inside the wolf's den and slept until the next morning and the three kobolds woke Matthew up from his slumber just as usual.
"Brother Matthew, you're going to teach us how to use aura today right?" Surprisingly, it wasn't Ethan who pestered him to teach them aura first thing in the morning, but it was Alexander.
"Um, yes? What's wrong Alex? Is there something wrong? Why are you so hyped up?"
"He lost against Valda yesterday, so he wanted to learn aura as soon as possible so that he could defeat her in their next sparring." Ethan suddenly said in the middle of his morning stretch.
"No! I'm not defeated! It's just that my body doesn't move as easily as before and she just got a lucky hit! If I could use the aura ability then I'm sure she won't be able to catch me off guard!"
"Well, brother, it doesn't matter what the reason is, it still means that you lost. Am I right, brother Matthew?" Valda calmy said.
Alex then looked at her with sharp eyes while slightly revealing his teeth, but Valda didn't back down as she looked back at his brother with the same sharp eyes while cracking her fingers.
'They… Aren't they supposed to be ȧduŀts? Isn't this more like a teenager…?' Matthew thought while looking at the twins.
'And who taught her to crack her fingers? Is she becoming a delinquent?? Where was the shy little girl from back then???'
"Stop it you two, you can settle this later with another sparring. Don't waste your energy yet. It's still early in the morning and we still need to hunt for our meal for today."
The twins then looked at each other once again before backing down and continuing their morning stretch.
The kids then proceeded to finish the remaining deer meat from yesterday before they prepared to hunt another group of beasts for their meal.
"For today, you guys just need to hunt 3 beasts each so that you can raise your levels. I won't be eating the animals that we hunt today since I still have some uneaten meat that I need to finish soon."
"So that means that we'll be letting the two other animals go? Isn't that a waste?" Ethan asked.
"Yes, we will let them go. And actually, it depends. When you think about the possible levels that you will get from killing them, yes it will be a waste. But if we still kill all 5 of them then I didn't eat 3 of them there, then we will have to carry 5 deer or boars back here which is a hassle for all of us. After that, you three can mostly eat two of them and leave the three animals untouched until tomorrow which means that you won't need to hunt tomorrow since you have plenty of meat already in stock."
"It might be good from a logistical standpoint, but not hunting for a day means that you will be missing the opportunity to level up faster which is not an option for us."
"Although we don't need to rush, we also can't take too much time to grow stronger."
"I saw it with my own eyes yesterday, the humans are getting deeper and deeper into the forest. And they have a goal coming in here.. No matter what it is, we can't let them have it."
