Reincarnated As A Chameleon And Eating Everything To Evolve

Chapter 156 - The Troll's Village Chief

With a large commotion happening right in front of the entrance of the troll's village, trolls began to come over to see what was happening right in their front door that caused a ruckus in the middle of the day.

And when they finally turned up to the scene, they saw a troll guard was fighting against a single beast from the forest.

A stray beast that had wandered over near their village was a rare occurrence, but it wasn't a big deal whatsoever for them. And seeing that there's already a troll guard that was dealing with the beast, they didn't pay any attention and just continued doing their everyday activities.

But after they saw that another troll guard was coming in towards the scene with a troll mage following behind it, the trolls decided to follow after them as they were curious what was happening.

The trolls were surprised, but it was a pleasant surprise for them as they saw that two troll guards and a troll mage were currently fighting against a weird-looking beast, they stayed there to keep watching the fight unfold.

It's not every day that they could see one of the troll mages fight as the troll mages were usually busy managing the whole village due to their higher intelligence compared to the ordinary trolls.

But it doesn't mean that the troll mages can't fight either. With their earth magic, there are no ordinary trolls that are able to against them. They couldn't even come close without being skewered by earth spikes, let alone defeat the troll mages.

And seeing their troll mage had stepped into a fight, they thought they might as well watch it as a form of entertainment as they didn't have a sliver of worry that the troll mage would lose in a fight with the earth magic that they possessed.

But as the fight continues, the trolls started to feel confused because there was no single wound on the beast's body while one troll guard had been incapacitated and the other was still quite a distance away from them.

And their confusion turned to worry when the beast had succeeded in dodging all of the troll mage's earth magic spell. Then from worry changed to fear as they saw the creature had destroyed the troll mage's earth construct and crashed onto the troll mage.

When they saw that the beast had cut off the troll mage's hand with a single swing of the beast's glowing white blade and dumped the troll mage's magic staff, the trolls then began to come over and tried to save their troll mage.

Losing a hand is not fatal for the trolls due to their insane regeneration speed and their fighting style does rely on the fact that their bodies could take a lot of damage and still be fine at the end. The problem was that they saw the beast had pointed the glowing white blade towards the troll mage's neck and they couldn't afford to lose a precious troll mage.

But they all suddenly stopped running forward when they heard the beast shout loudly,

"If you don't want his head lopped off, STAY WHERE YOU ARE!"

Matthew heaved a sigh of relief and thought, 'It would be bad if tens of trolls ran over me.'

'Fortunately, they seem to put their mage in high regard and the threat worked wonderfully. Now the problem is, how do I start talking to this stubborn troll…?'

"GET OFF ME BEAST!" The troll mage shouted.

Hearing the mockery from the troll mage, Matthew didn't give any verbal response, instead, he inched the solid aura blade closer towards the troll mage's neck and it immediately made the troll mage stop talking.

'Whew, it's not that hard to shut him up.'

Now that the troll mage had behaved himself, Matthew finally opened his mouth and spoke what he initially wanted to say to the trolls from the start.

"You guys really are a bother, we don't even need to fight first as I only wanted to say a few words to you and it may even benefit you guys if you listened properly."

The troll mage seemed to want to respond to Matthew's words, but with the solid aura blade still only a few millimeters beside his neck, the troll mage decided to just swallow his words back and let Matthew continue his speech.

"Ah, whatever, I will just let bygones be bygones."

"First of all, I'm not a beast. I came from another demihuman village a few hours walk away from here. Note that I'm a kobold, not a beast."

"And now, I just want to let you know that humans are invading the forest and they have succeeded in destroying my whole village. I don't know where they are planning to go or what their plans are. But it's a fact that they had been going deeper and deeper into the forest. And it's not about whether they will invade the troll village or not, but it's only when they will invade the troll village. I suggest that you prepare yourselves for their invasion and don't take them lightly."

"Their numbers are huge and they used tricks and strategies to tear down your village right from the roots. Not to mention that they have many mages among them and there's at least one mage that is exceptionally stronger than the rest."

"Is there another troll village in this forest?" Matthew asked before ending his speech.

The troll stayed silent and didn't say anything regarding Matthew's question. However, a slight push with his leg that was holding the kobold mage down, helped to give the troll mage extra motivation to answer Matthew's question.

"Yes, there's another troll village some distance away from here." The troll mage answered.

Matthew then nodded his head and said,

"I suggest you team up with them and try to hold off or even push back the humans from getting deeper into the forest."

Matthew had expected the troll mage to nod his head or at least stayed silent, but the troll mage lashed out and said,

"And why should we do what you're telling us to do? It's our problem, not yours!"

Matthew wanted to retort, but he kept his mouth shut as what the troll mage was saying is entirely true. But he also remembers why he even bothered telling them in the first place.

'If I want to fight against an army, then having another army fight at my side will surely help a lot.' That's his initial intention.

Matthew then said, "I only wanted to tell you since my village had been destroyed by them. And I don't want my fellow demihumans to be killed by them. Even if they didn't kill you, they will make you their slaves and put you to work for their benefit."

"That's because your village is weak! You aren't even strong enough to defeat those puny huma-"

Matthew pushed his leg deeper into the troll's ċhėst, making the troll mage shut his mouth up and the pressure was heavy enough that it made it hard for the troll mage to take even a single breath.

After seeing the troll mage start to suffocate, Matthew lessened the pressure and said,

"Are you still saying we're weak now?"

The troll mage glared at Matthew but didn't dare to say anything to offend him. Instead, he said,

"But there's no way humans would be able to defeat us, the demihumans! Their bodies are weaker than us and their magic is way inferior compared to us. There have also been records of humans trying to invade the forest from a long time ago, but they couldn't get any deeper from this place. Our ancestors have succeeded in defeating them, why would we ever be defeated by them!?"

Hearing what the troll mage is saying, Matthew wondered for a few seconds and thought,

'While it is true that their bodies are naturally weaker than us, but their steel armor and swords could make it for them and make them significantly tougher to kill and more dangerous for us.'

'But one thing really doesn't add up here, their magic is in no way inferior compared to the demihumans.'

'They could make a magic cage that was undetectable without magic knowledge, they could also make magic equipment that made my full invisibility useless and a magic tool that boosted one's aura. Heck, they could even utilize a water spell that could rival Mutt's magic that cost him his life to activate. I don't see their magic is inferior to the demihumans, in fact, they could even be more superior than the demihumans.'

'The records must have been from some time ago, the troll's information about the humans is outdated.'

"They are different from the humans back then, their magic had already developed so much that your simple earth magic doesn't even hold a candle against them."

"You… How dare you… My earth magic might not be advanced enough, but there's no way the village chief will lose!"

Just after the troll mage ended his words, another commotion was heard from the group of trolls that were watching the exchange between Matthew and the troll mage.

Matthew turned his head towards the group and saw that the group of trolls was parting from each other as if giving way for someone to go through them.

After all the trolls had moved sideways, Matthew could finally see another troll wielding a magic staff that looked more ancient and with more details covered on them. The troll also wore a bone necklace, and more clothing compared to the other troll that only used animal hides to cover their lower side.

Before Matthew was able to ask who is it, the troll mage suddenly shouted,

"Village chief! Please save me from this beast!"
