Reincarnated As A Chameleon And Eating Everything To Evolve

Chapter 157 - A Huge Problem For The Trolls

Matthew kept his leg onto the troll mage's ċhėst and his solid aura blade unmoving from the troll mage's neck. Even though it might not be a good display of attitude when the troll village chief is in front of him, Matthew couldn't afford to lose one of his protection measures.

Both Matthew and the village chief were looking at each other and they stayed silent for a few moments before the village chief started talking,

"Although you look like a weird version of them, you indeed look similar to the kobolds. Say, what are you doing here, kobold? Do you want to move your settlements deeper into the forest? If that's the case then don't even think of trying to threaten us."

"You might be their best warrior, but you are still not enough to help all the kobolds defeat the trolls. Find another village to take its spot."

The troll's village chief then pointed towards Matthew solid aura blade and said,

"That thing you use, I can feel that it is the same thing that the beasts and the ogres used. Unless you have plenty of mages then forget challenging us, your aura is not enough to fight against our magic. Just try your luck on the ogres. Go away from here before I decide you can't."

A lot of questions popped up in his mind as Matthew heard what the troll village chief was saying. There's a lot of things that he didn't understand such as moving deeper into the forest, taking the troll's spot, ogres? And don't their warriors also use aura? Why did they talk as if they didn't use it at all? Matthew wanted to ask the troll village chief all these questions, but he knew that it is not the correct time and place to do so. And considering the troll mage is still stuck beneath his feet, Matthew decided that he had to shelve his questions for now and just stick to the initial reason why he came to the troll village.

"Village chief, First of all, I just want to clarify that I don't want to pick a fight or whatsoever with the trolls. I only wanted to talk and tell you about something important."

The village chief then knitted his eyebrows in a frown as he heard Matthew saying that while looking at the troll mage condition that had one of his hands cut off and his current position that is still laying beneath Matthew's feet.

Matthew noticed the village chief's gesture and quickly said,

"I also didn't mean this to happen, but they forced me to do this. I will release him and I will disappear from here right away after I deliver my message."

"The humans, they are coming to invade the forest."

At first, the troll village chief didn't even give a reaction when Matthew explained that a human army is invading the forest and they are going deeper and deeper into the forest every day.

However, after Matthew mentioned about the steel equipment that is tougher than his claws, the troll's village chief finally took an interest in what Matthew is saying and when Matthew mentioned the combination magic that was able to defeat Mutt, Matthew could finally see a slight expression of disbelief and concern on the troll's village face.

After Matthew finished telling his piece, the troll village chief nodded and said,

"Alright, we're going to take the humans more seriously and we won't underestimate them."

"I also suggest you team up with the other troll villages to fight against the humans," Matthew added.

"Stop it right there kobold. I only decided to listen to you since I respected your strength. I might listen to what you have to say, but don't you dare order us around."

Hearing this, Matthew just shrugged his shoulders and didn't say anything else since he had said what he wanted to say.

'What's wrong with these people and their arrogance…' He silently thought to himself.

"That's all I wanted to say, I will leave now."

Matthew said before changing the wolf's aura ability to the chameleon's aura ability and just magically disappeared out of sight.

Silence descended on the troll village as they saw a creature had just disappeared into thin air right in front of their very eyes.

About a minute had passed after Matthew had gone from the troll village. The villagers all had returned back, continuing their activities with the village chief's command.

The troll mage that had his hand cut off had already picked up his severed hand and stuck it back together with his wrist using some bandages made from animal hides. And lastly, he only relied on the troll's natural rapid body regeneration to connect his hand back together.

The wound was not fatal at all for the troll mage, but losing both his hand and magic staff at the same time is basically losing the crucial main method of his defense. Hence why the troll mage didn't look any different than a helpless child when Matthew had his solid aura blade sticking to his neck. And if there's no immediate threat, then the wound was not much different than a slightly deeper scratch for the trolls.

The troll mage still couldn't believe that he had just been defeated and humiliated by a demihuman that lives on the outer side of the forest and grumbled to the troll's village chief,

"Village chief, why didn't you attack him earlier? With your magic, there's no way he would be able to dodge it!"

The village chief looked at the troll mage and suddenly slapped the troll mage's head.

"You stupid child! The moment he felt anything unusual or he felt he was going to be attacked, your head would have fallen from your neck first before you could even see him wounded."

"But father, why did you let him go just like that? That beast had humiliated us by cutting our guard's legs and he even cut my hand off! We can't just let him come and go and do whatever he pleases without paying for it."

Hearing his son talking, the village chief could only sigh and shook his head saying,

"You… You're only talented in magic, yet you don't have a magician's head…"

"What do you mean father? I'm able to learn magic from a young age! Even you said that I learned faster than you!"

"You may have talent in learning how to use magic, but if you can't even see how strong your enemy is, then you're no different than the other ordinary trolls."

Before the troll mage was able to give a retort, the village chief continued,

"Do you know what ability that kobold was using?"

The kobold mage nodded and said, "Yes, I know. It's aura, right? The one that all the beasts and some of the ogre warriors used to enhance their fighting power right?"

"You're correct, but did you see that his aura is solid and it could even cut through our tough bodies?"

"Yes, but father, even the beasts such as the bear and the deer could also make their aura solid and strong enough that it could either fatally hurt our bodies or defend against our attacks. It's nothing special!"

"And that's exactly the problem, kid. Only the beasts were able to make a solid aura that strong."

After recalling his memories and thoughts, the troll mage finally realized that what the village chief was saying is indeed true.

"The aura blade was about half the length of your forearm. Throughout my lifetime, I've never seen a demihuman able to make a solid aura that big."

"Even the ogres who didn't have a magician and relied on using aura could only use aura in its gaseous, foggy state. I've only heard a demihuman succeed in using solid aura from a story that my father told me. And even in the story, the ogre who succeeded in creating a solid aura could only create a solid aura as thick as a fingernail."

"If that kobold is lying and the kobolds do intend to take our spot here, then it would be a huge problem for us. Even bigger than the humans invading the forest."

"I only bluffed saying that his solid aura won't be able to do much against our magic. If their warriors could all use a solid aura at least half as good as that kobold, then it would be a tremendously difficult fight for us even with our high regeneration speed."

"So, kid. Watch your mouth and don't think that the trolls are the strongest here. There are creatures deeper in the forest that we couldn't afford to offend. Even our rapid regeneration didn't mean anything for them that could slice our heads in the blink of an eye."

"And stop calling him a beast, his race is called a kobold and they're also demihumans like us. Moreover, we all lived inside this forest, we should at least honor each other."

The village chief then turned his body and walked back towards the center of the village, leaving the kobold mage standing there silently while looking at the ground.

"We're getting better and better at it, brother Matthew! But the deers are really a troublesome bunch! They tried to run away the moment they felt they were at a slight disadvantage."

Matthew could only chuckle and give an agreeing nod when he heard Alexander bad-mouthing the deers and said, "Well, that's how it is with the deers. You'll get used to it soon enough."

"How about you, brother Matthew? Did you find anything interesting today?"

"Actually yes! I did find something very interesting today!"

"What is it? Tell us! We want to know!"

"Well, why don't you see them on your own? Hurry up and level up kids!"

"We're almost level 15 so it won't be too long. Wait for us a little longer brother!"

"Alright, do your best folks," Matthew said as he smiled towards the three kobolds.

"Speaking of which, I want to take a little nap first. There's something I want to do later in the night."

The three kobolds looked at him with questioning eyes, but Matthew didn't explain anything to them and just said,

"Just wait and see, I might get a complete makeover soon enough." He said before going into the wolf den and closing his eyes.

Later that night, Matthew was moving through the night forest alone. With his night vision that he got from the wolves, he was able to navigate through the trees even though it was almost pitch dark if not for the stars and the moon giving their pale light onto the forest.

Matthew's destination was quite far, but knowing that he might have to use his aura later, he didn't use the wolf's aura ability to enhance his physical strength and just moved as fast as he could while taking breaks after some time to replenish his strength.

After a few hours of jumping from trees, Matthew finally arrived at his destination.

Matthew hides behind the trees while looking at the two troll guards standing not too far away from him.. Churning the gears in his mind, Matthew then started brewing up a plan to execute his next two targets perfectly.
