I enjoyed the journey in comfort.

The ground was muddy from the previous day’s rain, and footholds were very poor, with wet trees blocking the path.

As I watched the children silently making their way through the mud, I felt a twinge of anxiety.

(I’ve been wondering why they’re walking in the mud, but maybe they couldn’t use Levitation Magic? Can’t they even put up a shield? Shar is also walking.)

When Shar noticed my gaze, he turned his red eyes toward me and turned pensive.

He gently held his hand forward and asked, “Like this?” And then a similar light shield appeared.

Subsequently, a breeze swirled around him, causing his body to float softly. He seemed to be imitating me.

(Did he learn that just by looking at the magic now?)

It lacked stability, but I thought it was a feat already that he learned it so quickly.

Even in my previous life, it was rare for a wizard to mimic the magic of another in an instant.

“Hmm, it’s handy. I had never thought of using it in this way before. We only make use of the magic we learned at Count Mercure’s house and never considered creating new magic. As long as I can walk normally, that’s good enough for me.”

“You know what? You’re too unimaginative…you should try it.”

Shar was physically fit and might be fine with it.

But it must be hard for some of the children just to go through the forest.

“All these wizards are so hard-headed, aren’t they?”

“Don’t say that. Those of us from the academy, myself included, are not accustomed to this kind of magic for comfort.”

“Stoicism can be poisonous in excess. Magic is only useful if you use it. I’ll teach it to the children later.”

I could teach them here, but I bet they wouldn’t be able to learn it in an instant like Shar.

If it would take too long to teach them, we’d have to cancel the training itself.

The children were silent, but were earnestly trying to get deeper into the forest.

(The trees are getting denser. Maybe the magical beast will show up soon…)

Large magical beasts often prefered to live deep in the forest, in places that were inaccessible to humans.

There was a pattern of them leaving the forest and harming people, but if Gordon brought them here for training, the magical beast was most likely an ordinary one that has no use for humans.

If there was a Transference Spell or a magic circle, the magical beast could be transported.

(Five hundred years ago, there were magic circles drawn all over the place. I wonder if they exist in this era…)

In my previous life, I also took on the task of killing magical beasts, a task that was too troublesome for other wizards to handle.

So, if there’s a need, I could help the kids.

After walking for a while, we suddenly came to a place where the sky was visible and the trees lessened.

(Flat ground… or rather, the trees have been knocked down. 

At last, the magical beast might be close.)

I could also sense the presence of a small magical beast, but it was wary of our number and did not show itself. It was probably not the target this time.

(Is it against the rules to use search magic? Then let me keep quiet about it.)

After observing the children, Kanon pointed to a certain place.

“There’s something big hiding over there. I think it noticed us.”

Meen nodded, her face scrunched up at his words.

“Maybe they found us first and are targeting us.”

Bomb was already geared for battle and was ready to unleash his Fire Magic. He seemed to be the type of person who would attack first.

“Come on, Fireball!”

Bomb shouted and shot several fireballs in the direction Kanon was pointing.

(Eh?…Is that a name? Is it modern to name your magic when you release it? Or rather, you can’t use fire recklessly. The fire won’t spread becauses it was after it rained, but is this his common practice?)

While I was thinking about it, I looked at Kanon, and he was also preparing his Water Magic.
