Meen removed her hands from her ears and turned around fearfully.

Countess Mercure instructed them to cover their ears and turn around, but Meen and the other two could hear everything that was being said.

They distrusted adults and always needed to be informed in order to survive in case of emergency.

Meen was not as strong as the other two, but that was how she has survived so far.

Count Mercure and the Countess seemed to be discussing how the academy and the house should be.

However, Meen thought.

(She’s talking nonsense. She’s so naive, that’s why she grew up wimpy.)

With a lax mindset, one could hardly make it as a wizard of the House of Mercure.

For Meen, who grew up in a harsh environment, Ram’s argument seemed to be nothing more than an empty concept.

Because Meen didn’t know any other way of life other than struggling to survive in the academy. The ideals that Ram talked about were impossible in reality.

(I thought she’s a strong magician because she stunned Gordon-sensei, but…that was probably just a fluke and not her strength. If there was such a thing as magic that made life easier for people, I’d be the first to learn it.)

However, if Ram’s assumptions were to come true later, Meen would feel that all the pain she had been through, all the friends she had lost in training, would be in vain. Meen resisted acknowledging Ram’s beliefs.

Accepting them was tantamount denying her life until now…and she didn’t like that.

(Madam says she’s coming along for the training. The Count will be with us, though, so I’m sure she won’t get hurt. I hope she’s not going to drag us down, because…we can’t afford it, either.)

Although nothing was mentioned, Meen felt that her abilities were limited.

Meen’s specialty was Light Magic, which was not suitable for attacking. Compared to Kanon and Bomb, she lacked offensive power.

That was why she survived by supporting the other two and cooperating with them, but she would be abandoned when they could no longer afford her.

Kanon and Bomb should also prioritize their own lives over the care of others.

With a sense of uncertainty, Meen set off for the training trip with the Count and Countess.

Their destination was deep in the forest, and Gordon had already instructed them to head there.

The content of their training was to hunt the vicious magical beast that had been released into the forest at nightfall.

She was told that this training, the most dangerous ever, was also meant as a punishment for Kanon’s skipping the training and Meen and Bomb’s playing with magic.

Meen was from a poor commoner family, sold by her parents to enter the Mercure family.

Even if she didn’t like it here, she had nowhere else to go.

Most of the children in the academy were like her.

Children with high magical powers were considered creepy as ” magical beasts.” These days, people tend to discriminate against children just because they have magical powers.

They could graduate from the academy once they turned sixteen.

After graduation, they would be working as a member of the Mercure family and would not have to undergo training every day. So it was only a matter of surviving for a little while longer, just a little while longer.

The path was muddy and difficult to walk, but Meen and the others made their way through the trees and deeper into the forest.

They had a good intuition of where the magical beast might be.

Ram was not even walking. She was moving forward, floating, with a glowing shield around her body.

Branches and tall grasses with raindrops on them were blocked by the glowing shield and could not reach her.

Ram was moving comfortably, without getting wet or dirty.

(What is that magic? It’s not fair!)

Meene has never heard of such magic for convenience.

The only tricks Meen knew were attack magic to hit her enemies, and a few defensive and state-changing techniques to protect herself.
