Chapter 22.3: Sharing a Room

Xuanyuan Mo immediately held Duanmu Xi and leapt up into the air.

“Reveal yourself!”

The clear cold shout resounded in the quiet dark night, sounding exceptionally authouritative.

“Your Highness.”

The black robed person suddenly fell onto one knee in a kneel.

“Who are you?” Duanmu Xi furrowed up her brows slightly, her face wary.

The black robed person pulled down the veil covering her face and replied: “Your subordinate Phoenix Fifth, here on the Emperor’s orders to locate Your Highness.”

“You hold proof of your identity?”

Duanmu Xi asked as she looked at Phoenix Fifth coldly, not missing the slightest change in expression on her face.

[Proof?]

Phoenix Fifth thought as she looked at Duanmu Xi in surprise. [What’s happening? Her Highness does not seem to recognize her.]

Phoenix Fifth then glanced at Xuanyuan Mo, hesitating as she considered whether to bring out the Phoenix Token.

“This man belongs to me. You do not need to be wary of him.”

Seeming to have seen through Phoenix Fifth’s worry, Duanmu Xi ordered in a cold voice.

Xuanyuan Mo’s handsome face reddened uncontrollably once again, but a sweetness also spilled into his heart.

And Phoenix Fifth’s face was one of surprise.

[Her Highness….. Her Highness has actually found a beau, and that youth is indeed rather flawlessly handsome, even comparable to His Majesty, the Phoenix Empress.

Noticing Phoenix Fifth’s measuring gaze, Duanmu Xi shifted herself slightly to stand in front of Xuanyuan Mo, but her height did not allow her to block Xuanyuan Mo out adequately.

Seeing Duanmu Xi’s actions, Phoenix Fifth’s lips stiffened discreetly.

Phoenix Fifth then pulled out the gold token shaped in the image of a phoenix from inside her robe and handed it over to Duanmu Xi, which had a tiny character that read as “five” carved in its back.

“This is the command token given exclusively only to the Phoenix Guards. Will Your Highness please have a look.”

Duanmu Xi did not take the token but just gave it one cold glance.

“Rise. I believe you.”

“Thank you Your Highness.”

Phoenix Fifth rose to her feet and stuffed the command token back into her robe.

“Is my mother well?”

Duanmu Xi turned to look out the window as she asked softly.

Phoenix Fifth was slightly taken aback a moment before she lowered her head and clasped her hand over her fist before her.

“Your Highness, Her Majesty has been worried for Your Highness’ safety and fell ill some time back, but is feeling much better now. If Her Majesty knows that Your Highness has come back safely, Her Majesty’s condition will surely recover without any medicine.”

Duanmu Xi’s brows knitted up tightly. [She really did fall ill? That was similar to what she had dreamt.]

“Make arrangements for me to return to the Imperial Capital as soon as possible.”

“As Your Highness wishes.”
