He even sensed the aura of the Seated Deer Arhat in a temple outside the Five Elements Mountain.
The Seated Deer Arhat is the leader of the Eighteen Arhats in Buddhism and a disciple of Sakyamuni, the Buddha. He is also called Venerable Pindola.
His name is translated as "immovable and sharp-minded", which means unmovable, with a sharp and firm mind. He often walks in the world with a childlike face, white hair, long eyebrows and a smiling face.
There is a poem praising the Venerable: "Sitting upright on the divine deer, he seems to be thinking about something; he is calm and composed, elegant and simple. The Venerable Immovable, has lived in the world for a long time, deserves the offerings of the last days, and is the best field of merit!"
Although the Deer-Sitting Arhat is not one of the ten direct disciples of Buddha Shakyamuni, he is also a well-known golden immortal in Buddhism and his strength should not be underestimated.
There are powerful Buddhist figures such as Zuolu Luohan Zhen guarding the Five Elements Mountain.
In addition, there is the Buddhist formation in the Five Elements Mountain and the six-character mantra left by the Buddha.
Not to mention that Niu Jun is just a small Golden Immortal. Even if there is a powerful person in the Taiyi Realm who takes action, he may not be able to rescue Sun Wukong.
So after Niu Jun understood the situation of the Five Elements Mountain, he completely gave up the idea of saving Sun Wukong.
As for whether or not to sneak into the small world of the Five Elements Mountain to meet Sun Wukong and comprehend the six-character mantra of Tathagata Buddha up close?
This matter needs long-term consideration and we cannot be impatient.
In other words, he would never sneak into the Five Elements Mountain small world before he figured out the true situation of the Five Elements Mountain small world.
When Niu Jun thought of this, he quickly came up with an idea.
He suddenly transformed into an old monk with white eyebrows. He was wearing a red brocade robe made of gold thread and a Vimalakirti hat on his head. He held a golden Zen staff in one hand and a purple gold basin in the other hand. There was also a huge string of precious Buddhist beads hanging around his neck.
Anyone who sees this appearance will know that he is a wealthy and virtuous monk.
"Amitabha!"
After Niu Jun turned into an old monk with white eyebrows, he chanted a Buddhist name and walked towards a Buddhist temple called Jinhai Temple not far ahead.
Take one step and the distance becomes smaller.
It turned out to be the supernatural power of feet that is standard among the great Buddhist monks.
……
"Amitabha."
Niu Jun used his magical power to arrive in front of Jinhai Temple. He saw a monk wearing a yellow cassock welcoming guests at the door. He immediately put his hands together in greeting and chanted the Buddha's name.
The monk who greeted guests was shocked when he saw Niu Jun, and hurriedly said in greeting: "Amitabha, I am Jinlun, the humble monk, to greet you, Master. I wonder where you are from?"
However, it was the monk named Jinlun who realized that Niu Jun was extraordinary and knew that the person before him was a great master who had practiced magic.
In addition, in Buddhism, the color of the robes and the age of the monk can also represent the monk's status.
Beginner practitioners such as samaneras, who are usually young people or teenagers, wear gray or brown robes.
Above them are bhikkhus, the first-level monks in Buddhism, indicating that they have been ordained to become formal practitioners, and usually wear yellow or brown robes.
Then there are the samādhiṣṭhāna, the senior monks in Buddhism who usually wear red, white or black robes to indicate that they have reached a higher stage of practice.
The white-browed old monk transformed by Niu Jun not only wears a red brocade cassock sewed with gold thread, but can also suddenly appear in front of Monk Jinlun without Monk Jinlun's knowledge.
What does this mean?
This shows that he is a virtuous master with a high level of spiritual practice!
"Amitabha, I am Fahai, a poor monk, coming from the Great Jin Dynasty in the East. I heard that the Buddha appeared in the Five Elements Mountain in Hezhou, Xiniu, so I traveled thousands of miles, over mountains and rivers, to make a pilgrimage."
Niu Jun chanted the Buddha's name and responded.
When Monk Jinlun heard Niu Jun introduce himself, he couldn't help but take a breath.
Just because the two words "Fahai" are so extraordinary.
In Buddhism, the word "Dharma Sea" is a metaphor for the Dharma, indicating that the Dharma is profound and boundless, as vast as the ocean.
It is mentioned in the "Vimalakirti Sutra: Buddha Country Chapter": "The Great Physician King who saves the old, sick and dead should be worshipped with boundless Dharma and virtue."
Therefore, without real ability, no monk would dare to use "Fahai" as his Buddhist name.
When Monk Jinlun thought of this, his expression suddenly changed to one of great respect. He bowed again and said, "I didn't expect that it was the great Zen Master Fahai who came to my Jinhai Temple. I wonder why the great Zen Master came to my Jinhai Temple?"
Niu Jun said, "Amitabha, to be honest with you, I came to Jinhai Temple this time, but I came to Wuxing Mountain. I heard that there are great Buddhist masters in your temple who often preach the Dharma and guide sentient beings to practice. So I want to stay in your temple for a while and listen to the great masters preaching Buddhism. I hope you can allow it."
Niu Jun's choice of Jinhai Temple as his place of residence was certainly not a random choice.
This is because there is a Buddhist guardian deity from the mysterious realm in Jinhai Temple.
In Lingshan Buddhism, there are five major positions: Vajra, Galan, Arhat, Bodhisattva, and Buddha.
Among them, the three positions of Vajra, Kāla and Arhat are usually held by guardian gods, corresponding to the three realms of True Immortal, Mysterious Immortal and Golden Immortal in the Xuanmen Immortal Way.
As for the two karma positions of Bodhisattva and Buddha?
Compared with the level of cultivation, it tests one’s understanding of Buddhism more.
Therefore, the Bodhisattvas in Buddhism are not necessarily Golden Immortals or Taiyi Golden Immortals, but the Arhat guardian gods must be Golden Immortals.
According to Niu Jun's perception.
This Buddhist guardian deity in Jinhai Temple has reached the peak of the Xuanxian realm. He should be one of the Buddhist warriors who assists the Sitting Deer Arhat in guarding the Five Elements Mountain. He should know some inside stories of the Five Elements Mountain.
Niu Jun chose Jinhai Temple to settle down because he also wanted to take action against this Buddhist guardian deity.
Hearing Niu Jun’s purpose.
Monk Jinlun couldn't help but reveal a hint of pride on his face.
After all, as the monk in charge of receiving guests at Jinhai Temple, he knew clearly what kind of background his own temple had.
Even in the Five Elements Mountains where Buddhist temples are everywhere, the scale and heritage of their Jinhai Temple still ranks among the best.
This is because their Jinhai Temple was built personally by Venerable Jinhai, who had already attained the Lingshan Monastery position, after he came to the Five Elements Mountain.
As far as he knew, after establishing Jinhai Temple, Venerable Jinhai did not return to Lingshan, but stayed in the Jinhai Temple to practice seclusion, and every once in a while, he would appear to preach Buddhism to sentient beings.
Therefore, the monk Fahai who came from the Great Jin in the East chose to stay in their Jinhai Temple, which was definitely the right place.
Chapter 19: Happiness in Xi Niu Hezhou, Hell on Earth in the East!
A great Zen master from the Great Jin Dynasty in the East came to Jinhai Temple!
This news spread throughout the Jinhai Temple like a gust of wind, attracting many monks in the temple to come and see the rare thing.
It is true that the Five Elements Mountains are located at the junction of the Xiniuhezhou and the Nanzhanbuzhou.
But as everyone knows, the Dongtu Dynasty where Jambudvīpa is located worships Confucianism and Taoism, and there are few orthodox Buddhists, so they cannot receive the true teachings of Buddhism.
So when everyone heard that a great Zen master from Jambu Continent was coming to Jinhai Temple to stay, they were all extremely curious and wanted to see what the difference was between this monk from the Jin Dynasty in the East and the Buddhist disciples from Hezhou in the West.
Especially this monk from the Jin Dynasty in the East, who also has the arrogant Buddhist name "Fahai".
This made the senior monks in Jinhai Temple even more dissatisfied.
Everyone wanted to debate with Monk Fahai, so that this monk from the Jin Dynasty in the East could know what the true Buddhist teachings were.
In other words, the monks from Xiniu Hezhou look down on monks from other places in their bones.
They feel that what they practice is the orthodox Mahayana Buddhism, unlike monks in other places who mostly practice Theravada Buddhist scriptures and do not receive the true teachings of Buddhism.
"Tsk tsk, I didn't expect monks to discriminate based on region!"
How could Niu Jun be able to sense the attitudes of the monks in Jinhai Temple?
This made him feel very funny.
This is because among the hundreds of monks in Jinhai Temple, except for the abbot and the head monk of the Arhat Hall, the rest are all ordinary people and have not cultivated any magical powers at all.
How can a group of ordinary people who haven't even cultivated magical powers have the courage to act superior and show off their superiority in front of a great wizard who has cultivated magical powers?
Don’t they ever think that a monk who could travel safely from Nanzhanbuzhou to Xiniuhezhou alone, ignoring the threats from demons, monsters, strong men and wild beasts along the way, could be an ordinary monk?
You can doubt the Buddhist practice of Master Fahai, but you must never doubt his profound magical powers.
"But this is normal."
"After all, even the Buddha said that the people of Jambudvīpa are greedy, murderous, lustful, deceitful, and evil. They are ignorant and difficult to educate, and will forever fall into the netherworld."
"So it would be strange if the monks from Xiniuhezhou could look at Nanzhanbuzhou without wearing tinted glasses."
"This is just like the countries in the past. Which one didn't promote their own country's security, stability, prosperity and strength, while the people abroad were living in dire straits?"
When Niu Jun thought of this, he suddenly understood where the sense of superiority of the monks in Jinhai Temple came from.
Because in the original Journey to the West, when Tang Monk and his disciples came to Lingshan to seek the true scriptures, Tathagata Buddha made an evaluation of the Southern Continent, saying:
"Your eastern land is the southern continent of Jambudvīpa. It is because the sky is high and the land is thick, the resources are vast and the people are dense, but there is much greed and killing, much lust and deceit, and much deception; people do not follow Buddhism, do not seek good karma, do not respect the three lights, and do not value the five grains; they are disloyal and unfilial, unjust and unkind, and they deceive themselves, use large scales and small weights, and kill animals. They have committed boundless evil, and their sins are so great that they have caused the calamity of hell.
Therefore, they fall into the netherworld forever, suffer the torment of being pounded, ground, and pounded, and are transformed into animals.
There are many hairy and horned creatures who use their bodies to repay debts and feed people with their flesh. They will forever fall into the Avici Hell and cannot be ascended. It is all because of this.
Although Confucius established the teachings of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, and wisdom, and emperors succeeded one another, with punishments ranging from exile to hanging and execution, what can be done about those who are ignorant and indulgent? "
From these words, we can see the attitude and opinions of Tathagata Buddha and the Buddhists in Lingshan towards the people of Jambudvīpa in the East.
In the eyes of Tathagata Buddha and the gods and Buddhas of Lingshan, the people of Jambudvīpa in the East are not only living in dire straits, but are actually living in purgatory on earth, and can never escape.
Buddha Shakyamuni said so.
How could the low-level monks in Xiniu Hezhou not believe it?
Let’s take a look at how Tathagata Buddha evaluates the other three major states.
Regarding Uttarakuru, the Buddha said: "Although the people of Uttarakuru like to kill, they only do so to make a living. They are clumsy and indifferent, and do not do much harm!"
The evaluation of Dongsheng Shenzhou is: "Respect heaven and earth, and be refreshed and calm!"
Finally, there is an evaluation of Xiniu Hezhou: "We, the people of Xiniu Hezhou, are not greedy and do not kill. We cultivate our energy and potential spirits. Although we are not the supreme true ones, everyone lives a long life."
From the Buddha's evaluation of the four continents of the earthly immortal world, we can know the attitude of the Lingshan Buddhist sect towards Jambudvīpa and its propaganda strategy.
It’s impossible to criticize Dongsheng Shenzhou, so I won’t comment on it.
The creatures in Uttarakuru are poor and backward. In order to survive, they have to kill. Moreover, they are all greedy, lazy, and unfeeling, so they do not cause much harm.
The most hateful one is the Eastern Land and Southern Continent.
The people of Jambudvīpa in the East are greedy and murderous, lustful and deceitful, cheating and deceitful, do not follow Buddhism, do not seek good fortune, do not respect the Three Lights, do not value the five grains, are disloyal and unfilial, unjust and unkind, deceive their consciences and themselves, use large measures and small scales, kill lives and animals, and commit endless sins. Their crimes are filled with evil and they will forever fall into the Netherworld, without the possibility of reincarnation.
The last one is Xiniu Hezhou where the Buddhist sacred mountain is located. It is definitely the happiest continent among the four continents in the earthly immortal world.
The people living in Xiniu Hezhou are not greedy or murderous, and they cultivate their energy and spirits. Although they do not have the supreme truth, everyone lives a long life and is extremely happy.
As for why monsters and demons were rampant in Xiniu Hezhou and ate people everywhere, and why the three monsters in Lion Camel Ridge ate up all the people in the city, leading to the horrific scene of the city being full of monsters?
According to the original description: Skulls are like mountains, bones are like forests. Human hair has become felt, human skin and flesh have rotted into dust. Human tendons are entangled on trees, dry and burnt and shining like silver. It is really a sea of blood and corpses, and it is really smelly. The little demons in the east take living people and peel their flesh; the demons in the west cook and cook human flesh.
The Buddha said to the Peng bird: "I govern the four continents, and countless sentient beings look up to me. Whenever they do good deeds, I will teach them to offer sacrifices to you first!"
The underlying meaning is that all the people you eat deserve it. If someone does good things, I will let you eat him first to prevent him from suffering in the world.
As the saying goes: If you do good things, monsters will eat you. This is also for your own good, so that you don’t have to continue to suffer while alive. I hope you can be reborn into a good family in your next life, or go directly to the Western Paradise.
I think this is the reason why the human race in Xiniu Hezhou is "not supremely true".
Because under the promotion of this Buddhist idea, everyone is preparing for their next life. If they really want to pursue immortality, how can they reincarnate as soon as possible and go to the Western Paradise?
On the contrary, the demons in Xiniu Hezhou felt that their life in Xiniu Hezhou was too happy. In just 1,800 years, they simply could not enjoy enough, so they desperately wanted to eat Tang Monk's flesh and wanted to achieve immortality.
"so."
"Is there a possibility?"
"In the eyes of the Buddha, only those who have cultivated to become immortals are considered 'humans'. Those who have not become immortals are not considered human beings at all, and are no different from chickens, ducks, fish, wild animals, and ants."
Niu Jun couldn't help but ponder. He felt that the Buddhist philosophy in this world was too crazy and was completely challenging his three views.
What made him speechless the most was.
The monks of Xiniu Hezhou still firmly believed in the views of Lingshan Buddhism. They were full of superiority and felt that they had practiced Mahayana Buddhism. They looked down on the Buddhist monks in other states.
Really crazy!
