Chapter 1 Under the Night

Under the cover of night, a boy with long black hair, the ends of which were red, and a red flame pattern on his forehead extending to below his right eye, was carrying a bag of medicine and hurrying towards the village ahead.

The boy's name is Chiba Yo. As a child, he was disliked by his father because of the mark on his forehead, and eventually his father abandoned him and his mother.

His mother raised him alone, but a year ago she fell seriously ill and became unable to move. So, when he was only fourteen years old, Chiba Yo supported himself and his mother by going up the mountain to collect herbs and chop firewood.

Upon entering the familiar village, Chiba Yo was stunned by what he saw.

What met the eye was blood and dismembered limbs. The villagers who were once familiar were now just mutilated bodies, their eyes wide with terror as they stared at the sky. The village under the night sky remained as silent as ever.

Chiba Yang dropped the medicine in his hand to the ground, and the scene before him left his mind blank.

"Mother... mother..."

Chiba Yo muttered to himself, his heart filled with worry and fear, before he quickly ran towards home.

The horrific scenes along the way made his heart sink little by little.

What exactly happened...?

Tears streamed down Chiba Yo's face, his heart filled with confusion.

Just then, a figure walked out of a house in front of them.

"Hehehehe, another human, and a child at that. I'm really lucky. Children's meat tastes better."

By the moonlight, Chiba Yo could clearly see the "figure".

With grayish-green skin, a ferocious face, bloodstains at the corners of his mouth, and a severed arm in his hand.

The creature before them could no longer be called human; it was merely a humanoid monster.

The monster licked the blood from the corner of its mouth, looked at Chiba Yang as if it were food, and then took a bite of the arm in its hand that belonged to someone else.

Seeing this monster intensified Chiba Yo's worry for his mother.

What kind of monster is this? Was it this monster responsible for everything that happened in the village? Could my mother have been...?

As Chiba Yo thought about it, he became increasingly anxious. He didn't stop and continued running towards home.

The monster stared at Chiba Yang with interest. It didn't stop him when it saw his movements, and even stepped aside to make way for him. Even when Chiba Yang ran past it, it didn't make a move. It had already eaten enough, so it wasn't very interested in eating anymore.

Chiba Yang ran forward for a while and then stopped. He was almost home if he went any further, but there was no need to go back now.

His mind went blank the moment he saw the scene before him, his eyes widened and bloodshot as if they were about to explode, and his whole body trembled with anger and grief.

Two bloodstains were left on the road ahead, and at the end of the bloodstains was the corpse of a woman. Her limbs had been separated, with her legs, arms and torso each a dozen meters apart. Her head and body were separated, her head was tilted to the side, her face was covered in dust, and her eyes were looking ahead, directly into Qian Yeyang's gaze.

Chiba Yang stood frozen in place, unable to believe what he was seeing. Just then, the monster slowly walked over.

"The flesh of these old guys may not taste good, but it's quite amusing. Cut off their limbs one by one, and watch them go from running to jumping, and finally crawling forward little by little until they stop moving. Hehehehe, their terrified yet comical appearance is quite entertaining."

The gray-green-skinned monster grinned and continued, "It's a pity, though, that these old guys are too weak in both body and mind. They couldn't keep going and stopped running after their legs were broken. I had no choice but to take pity on them and eat them to stop their suffering."

As it said this, it shrugged. At this moment, the monster had walked up to Chiba Yang's side and looked at the scattered limbs in front of it, saying with a rather appreciative tone: "The human in front of you is different. She held on until the very last moment."

Hehehe, this guy may not be able to move his legs, but his will to survive is much stronger than everyone else's. He actually crawled all the way here, and even with both arms broken, he was able to escape more than ten meters using his head and torso, which brought me a lot of amusement.

And even on his deathbed, he mumbled something like, "I promised Xiaoyang I'd live well." Hahaha, that's hilarious!

Chiba Yo's heart skipped a beat, and then he stiffly turned his head to look at the monster. The veins on his forehead bulged, and his teeth were clenched. Anyone could see the rage he was feeling.

Upon seeing his expression, the monster licked its hand and chuckled, speaking in a flippant tone, "Oh? That expression is quite amusing. Could it be... that this human has some connection to you? Oh dear, could you be the Xiao Yang she was talking about?"

"So, this pile of remains lying on the ground is your mother?"

"I want you dead!!!"

Tears streamed down his cheeks, and because he clenched his teeth so hard, he even tasted a sweet, metallic flavor in his mouth. The flame-shaped mark on his right forehead seemed to glow.

After shouting this, Chiba Yo raised his fist and slammed it into the monster's face.

"Hahaha, looks like I was right..."

The monster laughed happily a few times, completely unconcerned about Chiba Yang's attack, and stretched out its left hand to try to block his fist.

However, the next moment, Chiba Yang's fist stopped in mid-air and he kicked the monster in the chest.

Although Chiba Yo is only fifteen years old, his strength far surpasses that of an adult. With this kick, he sent the monster flying, crashing into a large tree in front of him.

How is that possible! It's like this guy anticipated my moves!

The heavy blows to the chest and back left the monster with an expression of disbelief.

Its smile vanished the next moment, enraged by what had just happened.

"How could a mere human possibly defeat me?"

The monster roared angrily, stood up, and charged toward Chiba Yang at an incredible speed, then raised its right hand.

In Chiba Yo's vision, the texture of the monster's muscles, the flow of its blood, and the functioning of its organs were all clearly visible, as if they were transparent.

This information is informing Chiba Yo about the monster's next move.

Anger and grief brought Chiba Yo hatred and murderous intent, but did not cloud his judgment.

Chiba Yo turned to the side, and the monster's fist swung past his face without hurting him in the slightest.

Having dodged the monster's attack once again, Chiba Yo casually picked up an axe placed on a wooden stake beside him and then chopped at the monster's arm.

The monster tried to dodge, but the axe blade fell much faster than it expected, and its arm was severed in an instant.

"what!!!"

The monster cried out in pain and staggered back a few steps, but the bleeding from the severed shoulder quickly stopped and a new arm began to grow.

Chiba Yo stared intently at the monster before him. He could feel his body temperature rising rapidly, and his heart pounding in his chest, beating much faster than usual.

"Impossible! Humans are nothing but food for us demons, they could never have such power, what kind of monster are you!" The monster roared at Chiba Yang in a shrill voice, and fear began to show on its face.

This is the first time it has encountered such a situation since it became a ghost.

Chapter 2 Rengoku Kyojuro

Chiba Yo clearly didn't intend to answer it, and charged at the monster again with his axe.

Just as Chiba Yo was about to swing his axe at it, the monster lost its previous composure, and even its anger vanished, leaving only fear.

Chiba Yang swung his axe down with both hands. The monster hurriedly tried to dodge the axe blade, but its movements had already been anticipated by Chiba Yang. He took a step forward and swung his axe down, severing the monster's other arm as well.

The monster, who had lost both arms, looked at the boy with strange markings on his forehead and had no intention of fighting him. Taking advantage of the moment when Chiba Yang finished his move, he quickly jumped back a big step and then turned and ran towards the forest outside the village.

"Monster! This guy is definitely a monster!" the green-skinned ghost shouted as he ran, sounding like a madman.

The last time it felt this fear was when it had just become a demon. The feeling it had from the adult who turned it into a demon was the same as the feeling it had from this boy now, but it didn't feel it at all when it first met this boy.

The green-skinned ghost hadn't run more than a few steps when it felt a heavy blow to its back. An axe pierced through its body, and the immense force sent it crashing to the ground.

"How could I... let you escape..."

After dropping the axe, Chiba Yo picked up a wood-chopping knife leaning against a house and walked step by step toward the green-skinned ghost lying on the ground.

Under the moonlight overhead, Chiba Yo's face was slightly dark, but the red flame pattern on his forehead was still clearly visible.

"No...don't come any closer, you monster!" The green-skinned ghost was sweating profusely and kept moving backward. Its arms had not yet regenerated, and the axe that Chiba Yang had just thrown was still stuck in its body.

As Chiba Yo approached step by step, a scene suddenly flashed through the Green Demon's mind.

Under the moonlight, a man with red flame markings on his forehead, who looked remarkably like the boy in front of him, stood before him, holding a fiery red longsword, like a god.

At that moment, every cell in its body was sending it fear, but the image only appeared for a moment before disappearing.

What is this? A memory I've never had before...

The fleeting image stunned it, but Chiba Yang was clearly unaware of it, and had already arrived in front of the green-skinned ghost with his wood-chopping knife.

With a flash of cold light, Chiba Yang swung his sword twice at a speed almost imperceptible to the naked eye, severing both of the green-skinned demon's legs.

At this moment, Chiba Yang had cut off all four of the Green Demon's limbs, leaving only its head and torso.

"Go to hell!" A voice filled with rage rang out as Chiba Yang swung his sword at the green-skinned demon's head. He had no interest in continuing to waste time with this monster; he just wanted it to die quickly.

With a swift movement, the green-skinned demon's head flew off and then crashed to the ground.

Dropping the machete in his hand, Chiba Yo turned around and silently walked back in the direction of the road he had just come from.

Da da da……

Footsteps echoed through the deserted village. Chiba Yo walked slowly, not because of his physical strength, but because he was afraid of seeing the tragic scene he had just witnessed again.

Memories of the past gradually surfaced in his mind, tears blurred his vision, and streamed down his cheeks, dripping onto the ground.

"It's okay. Even if I'm all alone, I will raise you well. Mom will always be with you."

"Cough cough..."

"Mother, there's no need to trouble yourself to make me new clothes. The clothes I have now are just as warm. You should take better care of yourself."

"It's okay. You've been wearing this dress for two or three years. It's long overdue for a new one. Go to sleep now. Mom will be done soon."

"Then I'll go get you a glass of water."

"It's all my fault... I got this disease, forcing you to go out and earn money to support this family at such a young age, and I've been a burden to you for so long... I'd rather be dead..."

"Please don't say that! You've always taken care of me like this, haven't you? And you've said you'd always be there for me. Please don't ever do anything like suicide again."

Mingming had just convinced her mother to live well together not long ago...

Chiba Yang clenched his fists and walked step by step, not even feeling his nails digging into his flesh, but a constant stinging pain came from his heart.

Upon reaching the previous spot, Chiba Yang knelt down with a thud and kowtowed to the ground.

"I'm sorry... If only I had come back sooner, if only I hadn't spent so much time on the way to buy the medicine..."

Words choked with sobs escaped Chiba Yo's lips. He dared not look up, remaining kneeling on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably.

Just then, the green-skinned monster behind him suddenly moved, its legs reattached to its body, its head reattached, and its arms grew back.

However, after regenerating, it did not take the opportunity to attack Chiba Yang. Instead, it quietly turned around and ran out of the village. At this time, Chiba Yang was still immersed in grief and did not notice the situation of the ghost at all. Since it was his first time encountering a ghost, he naturally did not know the characteristics of this kind of creature.

"Hahaha, luckily this guy doesn't know that we ghosts are immortal. This level of attack can't kill me."

The green-skinned monster ran at breakneck speed, laughing loudly as it escaped. The joy of its escape filled its body.

"Once I've eaten more humans and become stronger, I'll torture this brat to death and then eat him piece by piece!"

Recalling the humiliation and helplessness he had just experienced, the green-skinned ghost said resentfully.

Just then, a figure suddenly appeared in front of them. The figure had yellow hair with red edges, wore a haori with flame patterns at the end, and carried a long sword with a flame-shaped tsuba at its waist.

"Is this the demon? I hope there weren't any casualties." A cheerful but worried voice rang out. Upon seeing the demon in front of him, Kyojuro Rengoku drew his Nichirin Blade from his waist.

"Flame Breathing, Form One: Shiranui!"

Flames surged forth, covering the blade and turning the area a fiery red.

In an instant, his body appeared in front of the green-skinned demon, and his Nichirin Blade slashed horizontally, the flames covering the blade slicing across the demon's neck.

"Ah!!!!" The green-skinned demon let out a shrill scream, and then quickly turned into ashes and disappeared into the world.

Sheathing his sword, Kyojuro got a clear view of the village ahead, since the demon hadn't gone far.

His mood instantly turned heavy, and he quickly ran towards the village ahead, wanting to see if there were any survivors.

Chapter 3 Demons and Demon Slayer Corps
