By the time Rob returned to the port, it was already noon the next day.
After lunch, Rob began to deal with the backlog of tasks caused by the search for Fushun.
After an unknown amount of time, the door to the command room was pushed open.
"Are you the new commander?"
Luo Bowen looked up and saw a lively-looking girl walking in, carrying something he couldn't quite place.
"You must be Fushun. Please have a seat. What can I do for you?" Luo Bo stopped what he was doing and decided to see what Fushun wanted from him.
"Um... Commander." Fu Shun scratched his cheek with his index finger, "It's like this, because of my previous negligence, I caused you a lot of trouble. I was thinking of giving you a gift before I came back. I might as well give you the gift and my apology together."
"Oh, no need to be so polite. We'll all be family from now on. But Fushun, I have some questions for you."
"Ask away, Commander!"
"Your patrol route shouldn't be in the xx sea area, so why did you go there?"
"Well, for some reason, the navigation and communication failed during the patrol, so we deviated from the flight path. Once the navigation was restored, we arrived there."
"Can you roughly recall where the navigation started malfunctioning?"
"I remember, I'll write down the coordinates for you later."
"So, what did you encounter when you arrived at the xx sea area?"
"I saw a Sakura Empire ship! Although I asked the mass-produced ships behind me and they all said they hadn't seen one, I'm absolutely certain that that big tail must be a Sakura Empire ship. So I followed it, and then I lost contact with everyone."
"And then how did you get back to the port area?"
As soon as Rob asked this, Fushun immediately perked up. She enthusiastically told Rob about her previous adventurous journey.
Rob felt increasingly uneasy listening to it; it sounded like a Siren base.
After all, according to Fushun's description, the house she encountered had a lot of unfamiliar equipment that had a Siren-like style.
Fushun talked animatedly with Luo Bo for a long time, and Luo Bo roughly understood what Fushun had encountered.
This girl actually went into the mirror-like sea. As for how she got out, Rob had no idea.
"Alright, the information you brought back is very useful. I'll accept the gift."
"Commander, aren't you going to open it and take a look?"
"Alright, let me see what you brought me." Having received very few gifts in his life, Rob suddenly became interested.
Then he saw something that looked a bit like a torpedo.
"This is?"
"This is a missile I made myself!"
"But why does this thing look like it's about to explode?"
"Missiles are designed to explode!"
"!!!"
Upon hearing this, Rob grabbed the "missile" and threw it out the window. Then, with a loud "boom," a small mushroom cloud shot into the sky from the yard.
Chapter Twenty-Three: The Supreme Enjoyment of the Eastern Emperor Commander
In the command room, Fushun sat obediently in a chair, head down, occasionally clenching the hem of his clothes.
Before her stood the newly arrived commander and the members of the three-way trial composed of Yi Xian and Zhen Hai.
Rob looked out the window at the rather large crater in the yard and thought to himself how lucky he was to have reacted quickly, otherwise he would probably be lying in the ICU right now.
He was sent to the ICU by a ship in his own port area just three days after taking office; at least he can make a name for himself in history.
"Tell me, where did you get all this stuff?"
In the corner of the command room was a large pile of unidentified objects that had been looted from the bedroom in Fushun.
What these things have in common is that they can all be used to make a huge bomb. If they were all blown up, this small courtyard would probably either be completely blown to bits or require major repairs.
Rob, who had taken stock of the existing supplies in the port area, said that if that really happened, he would be the one to starve.
"It's... the money I saved up before."
"Fushun, have you considered what would happen if the commander didn't react in time and your 'missile' injured him?"
"No, no, that power is actually very small. At most, it'll just leave a big mess on your face, hehehehe."
"Okay, let's put that question aside for now." Rob didn't want to delve into how many levels of injury this thing could inflict on him, since there were some differences in perception between ships and humans.
However, for his own safety and the future safety of the port area, he had to impose certain restrictions on the somewhat incompetent destroyer in front of him.
"First of all, this pile of stuff of yours must be confiscated."
"Huh? Commander, could you leave a little bit? Just a little bit!"
"No way!" Rob said, indicating there was no room for negotiation.
"Then, Fushun is prohibited from entering the supply warehouse."
Fortunately, they only blew a hole in the yard today. If they had blown up the supply warehouse... Luo Bo broke out in a cold sweat.
"Then, I don't want to investigate where you got these things from, nor do I intend to really stop you from doing these things again, since I doubt you'll listen to me anyway. I just beg you, please don't develop your 'missiles' in the port area."
"Huh? No, no, I do all this at my own little base."
The atmosphere in the command room instantly became tense.
Rob felt that his life as a commander was about to become a dark and hopeless place. He turned to Yixian and asked, "Is there anyone in the port who can help this kid?"
"Yes, Anshan. It's probably because Anshan has been on a mission recently, and the discipline in Fushun has become a bit lax."
It seems there's still hope; at least someone can keep Fushun in check. Luo Bo breathed a sigh of relief.
"You have to be punished for making a mistake. I'll fine with a day's detention, half a day of solitary confinement. Also, you're responsible for cleaning up that crater you blew up in the yard. Fushun, do you have a problem with that?"
"No, Commander, can't you really leave me some of these? I've been saving them up for so long."
"There's no room for discussion on this. If there are no further issues, let's adjourn the meeting."
"This child isn't a bad person, just a bit mischievous. I hope the Commander won't mind." Yi Xian waited until Fu Shun left before turning to Luo Bo to plead for him.
"I know the ships don't have any bad intentions. Speaking of which, Dean Saratoga on the White Eagle side also really enjoys playing pranks."
Rob then told Yixian the story of how Saratoga used to squeeze lemonade into the company's cups.
"Is that so? It seems that the people around Miss Saratoga are having a tough time too."
Yi Xian was initially taken aback, but then couldn't help but smile. Her bright eyes were like clear springs, her lips like two peach blossoms, and her smile was like a spring breeze, refreshing and delightful.
Luo Bo was momentarily stunned, then shook his head discreetly, trying to shake off the memory of that stunning smile.
Upon entering the courtyard, the Ninghai sisters were practicing their martial arts.
They were so precise and skillful that they looked quite convincing. As Luo Bo walked over, he could even hear the whooshing sound of their punches.
"Greetings, Commander."
The two sisters stopped punching halfway through their routine and greeted Rob.
"Hello Ninghai and Pinghai. Are you exercising or practicing martial arts?"
If it were a person practicing martial arts, Rob would have no doubt about it, but ships don't get sick or worry about gaining weight, so the meaning of practicing martial arts for them is rather unclear.
"Kung Fu? My sister said we could make a living by performing, so she let Pinghai learn it. We practice every day."
This sounds so heartbreaking. Has the situation in Minato Ward really gotten this bad?
At that moment, Rob suddenly noticed two small black and white creatures on the open ground next to him.
The two little ones rolled around on the ground, getting covered in dirt, having a great time.
"Could this be... a panda?"
Rob walked over carefully, afraid of disturbing the two little ones.
The two little ones weren't afraid of people. When they saw Robo coming, they got up from the ground. They waddled over to Robo and then each hugged one of his legs.
"Ah, these are Da Bao and Er Bao." Ning Hai introduced them to Luo Bo after seeing this. "They are our pets, and they are sisters."
"Really? What an adorable little princess!"
Rob squatted down and stroked one of the puppies with each hand. The two puppies made "woo-woo-woo" sounds as they were stroked, seemingly enjoying Rob's massage service.
What do they eat? Bamboo?
A panda started climbing up Robo's body along his hand. Robo squatted there, not daring to move, afraid that it would fall.
So this is the exclusive perk for the Eastern Emperor Commander? He can pet pandas! Who can resist this? Rob said he couldn't resist it anyway. Even Chi You couldn't resist it back then, so what can he resist?
"Actually, if you had just posted photos of these two little ones and said you were coming to Donghuang as commanders, you could have played with them. I guarantee the port gates would have been packed the next day!" Rob joked with Ning Hai and the others while petting them.
"Huh? This works too?" Ning Hai was shocked.
"Don't underestimate the charm of these two little ones! When the opportunity arises, I'll take you out for a walk, and then you'll understand."
Rob is full of confidence and is already considering whether to simply sell tickets to see the pandas to generate revenue.
Feeling refreshed after petting the panda, Rob returned to the command room and began handling the remaining tasks.
If her description is correct, the places she went during the time she went missing in Fushun were places she likely followed Chicheng to.
But they lost track of them in the end. That sea area should be something like the Mirror Sea. Did the Sakura Empire really master Siren technology?
Having this thing standing at your doorstep is a bit unsettling, especially since it's from the opposing camp.
The headquarters had more expertise in this area, so after much deliberation, Rob decided to ask Saratoga again.
After all, the Eagle Union is currently the one fighting the Sakura Empire to the death in the Pacific theater, so this intelligence is still somewhat useful.
Chapter Twenty-Four: Negotiating Business
Before having dinner, Rob took out his communicator and sent a message to Saratoga.
"Rob, do you even know what time it is here? Sarah only managed to get two hours of sleep. If it's not something urgent, Sarah will definitely give you a good whack on the head next time we meet!"
Saratoga on the other side of the screen was clearly not happy. After all, being woken up from bed before dawn is something no one can tolerate.
Rob mentally calculated the time difference between the two places and realized that it was indeed his mistake.
He quickly apologized to Sarah: "I'm sorry, Dean, it was my mistake. I was just afraid I'd forget about this information later. I didn't notice and bothered you."
"Speak, what is it this time?" Since she had already been woken up, Saratoga had no choice but to see what Rob was up to.
As for the grudge of being woken up from bed, I'll remember it for now and get my revenge later when I have the chance.
Rob then recounted in detail what had happened in Fushun to Saratoga, and added his own speculation at the end.
Saratoga's eyebrows furrowed as she listened to Rob's account. She hadn't expected Rob to bring her such explosive information.
“From your description, it does indeed resemble a mirror-like sea, and the house in the middle of the sea looks like some kind of Siren experimental facility. Sarah will be going to talk to headquarters later to see if they have anything they can use for comparison. If it's really as you speculated, Rob, you might need to come over.”
"What does this have to do with me going there? I've only been in Donghuang for a few days, and I have to go back again? No, no, I'm not going. It would take several months to travel by ship back and forth."
"I'm not asking you to return to the White Eagle homeland. Although the exact location hasn't been determined yet, it seems that Sakura Empire is planning to take action against a base here, but the intelligence department hasn't given us a specific answer yet."
"And then what? Does headquarters just not have any more people they can send?"
“That’s right, there’s no one left. My sister was badly damaged last time, and her condition is quite serious. It may take a long time before she can return to the battlefield. I also have to defend against the Sirens in the NA sea area. The Sirens have been restless lately, so we can’t transfer people from here. Headquarters is already preparing to redeploy Yorktown back to the battlefield.”
"Has the command gone mad? Wasn't Yorktown also wounded? This is murder!"
"But there's no other way. Right now, all the White Eagles can mobilize are Enterprise and Hornet. If Sakura Empire launches an attack at this time, we'll be facing at least four aircraft carriers, plus the Siren Technology you mentioned. This battle will be even more unwinnable. So we can only ask you for help."
Rob lowered his head and pondered for a while, surprised that the situation there was also so dire.
He felt this matter needed to be discussed, especially with the company, since whether Yorktown returned to the battlefield or he agreed to intervene, it was all of great importance to the company.
"I can't give you an answer right now. I need to discuss it with the company." Rob decided to leave it hanging for the time being.
After dinner, Luo Bo convened a small meeting with representatives from the company and Zhenhai.
The main reason for calling Zhenhai was that she was said to be the most intelligent person in the port area and could help with planning and strategizing.
"Companies, please share your thoughts first."
"Commander, I'm fine, I'll obey orders."
The company clearly dislikes meetings, and unless it's something extremely urgent, Rob usually won't invite her to meetings. But this time, that's clearly not an option.
“Company, listen to me. Whether it’s Yorktown or what I agreed to with Saratoga, what matters most to me is your opinion.”
