I, V, Gotham Legend
Page 59
Walking into the intersection hall, the temperature dropped further, even Valerie felt a little cold. There was thick fog floating in the air, and it was all white. The visibility was only about five meters.
"Next is the left." The fog did not affect Valerie. She took big steps, but was held back by the rope in her hand.
Valerie turned around and looked at Shiva, whose face was hidden in the fog.
"Miss V, maybe it's time for us to say goodbye." Shiva raised his hand, holding a rope in his hand.
She had untied herself.
"You think I didn't notice your little move?" Valerie laughed. "I just don't care."
Shiva was about to say something when he suddenly felt numbness in his body and fell to the ground powerlessly.
"It's just like I guessed. You fell down at this time. You really have a strong physique." Valerie walked to Siva and put the rope back on Ms. Siva.
Shiva was speechless. She just drooled and looked at Valerie's actions in amazement.
Valerie has never been able to understand the rules for using medicine in this body. Apart from healing medicines, there are also anesthetics for non-lethal assassinations. Although there is no cooling time, she can only take out one bottle at a time.
So Valerie changed her idea. Since she couldn't get more medicine at one time, she would try to dilute one dose of medicine into many bottles. Even if the effect would be much worse, it might be useful.
This test using anesthetics was also the first time it was tried on a human being - she had already injected Siwa with the drug when they were sitting in the car at the door.
"Don't worry, you won't die." Valerie patted Shiva's butt with her dirty hands, then stood up holding the rope.
"Your ropes were untied a long time ago, right? I can also guess why you didn't jump out until now."
With her other hand, Valerie pulled a black shotgun from her pocket, aiming it at the mirrored display.
She aimed at a wall beside her and pulled the trigger.
The wall was shattered, and the assassin hiding behind it was hit by bullets, falling to the ground with twitching limbs.
Then Valerie stepped on a ground fence under her feet and threw a grenade inside.
Flames were burning underground, and a group of assassins jumped up, lifting the floor. Valerie was not hesitant either, and shot each of them to the ground.
"And..." Valerie put away her gun and looked up at the vent on the ceiling of the corridor.
She temporarily loosened the dog chain that was tied to Shiva, ejected the mantis knife with both arms, did a double jump, and stabbed the knife with electric light into the ceiling.
Then, Valerie jumped down again. Blood was flowing from the hole she had cut in the ceiling. It looked like the person hiding behind was in a miserable situation.
Shiva just lay on the ground in despair, watching Valerie easily pick out her men one by one.
"That's probably all we have for this batch." Valerie looked around and nodded with satisfaction.
"You...how..." Shiva asked, struggling with drool.
The reason why she was so obediently led by V before was because she had already contacted other subordinates who had infiltrated the company in advance.
The current environment of Gotham Corporation is very suitable for assassination. She originally planned to wait until her men surrounded Valerie before jumping in.
She thought that this stupid mercenary was in her hands.
But now it seems that I am the one who has been in the palm of my hand.
"You're just too arrogant." Valerie sneered in a deep voice. "Anyone who can accomplish great things always has several plans in place."
At the same time, she secretly thanked her luck in her heart that she had kept the scanner on, otherwise the hiding abilities of these assassins would have been a bit tricky.
Valerie picked up the rope and dragged the paralyzed Siwa forward.
The freezing laboratory was not far from the intersection area, and Valerie found it after a few turns.
A high-tech door appeared before my eyes. It seemed to be automatically opened horizontally and could only be opened with an ID card.
Valerie punched the door, making a big hole, then she put her hand on the hole like a doorknob and used brute force to pull the door open.
Normally, Valerie could use her technical ability to open the door directly, but considering that there might be someone inside, it would be more handsome to appear this way.
Unlike the corridor which was filled with white fog, the visibility in the laboratory was very clear. If it was so cold outside that the air condensed into fog, then here it would feel like the air was frozen.
It was so cold here, like an ice pool where hackers cool down, that even Valerie couldn't help shivering.
But disappointingly, there seemed to be no living people in here. Valerie only saw a bald man lying on the ground not far away, and the scan showed that he was dead.
“…?” Valerie suddenly noticed something was wrong.
Scans showed that the person lying on the ground died of heat stroke.
Can you get heatstroke in such cold weather?
Valerie released Siwa and walked into the lab.
The ground was thick with ice and very slippery, but that was no problem for Valerie.
This room is divided into two parts. Valerie is now walking into the outer observation room. There is a large mirror in front of her. It should be the kind of laboratory commonly seen in movies.
The door leading to the laboratory was open, and the deceased must have escaped from the laboratory.
Valerie squatted down, grabbed the corpse's head with her left hand, and looked at his blue skin thoughtfully.
Just like that Mr. Freeze man.
"He is James Olumbu, a colleague of Mr. Freeze."
A familiar voice suddenly sounded, startling Valerie.
She turned around and saw Batman's pointy head.
"You look like a ghost." Valerie patted her plump chest.
"Have you been held back by her?" Batman glanced at Siwa who was struggling behind him.
"Yes, this despicable villain has been instigating me to kill people. Fortunately, I stick to my principles and drugged her first to prevent this devil from bewitching me." Valerie said indignantly, ignoring Shiva's confused eyes.
"You did a great job." Batman nodded in agreement, feeling very relieved.
"Hey, it's nothing to mention." Valerie was proud for a moment, then returned to the point: "You said this guy is Mr. Freeze's colleague, so you know who Mr. Freeze is?"
"I got here a little early." Batman nodded and moved closer to the observation window where there were two handprints.
PS: Valerie's anesthetic is one of her most powerful concept-level props at the moment, capable of drugging Superman and Darkseid (provided that the needle can be inserted into the skin).

NO48. By chance
(Mr. Freeze's origin story, original story, if you are not interested you can jump to No.51, the ones in brackets are free)
Victor Fries was born into a single-parent family in Gotham, and his family lived in poverty since childhood.
His father died because of being involved in the gang fights that were common in Gotham, and his mother raised little Victor alone.
Although they had a very bad family background, their life was actually pretty good. Although they were very poor, their mother was very optimistic and was able to support herself and her children by selling sandwiches at a stall.
Victor is also very sensible. Not only does he have excellent academic performance, he also often helps his mother after school.
The mother and son depend on each other for survival. The winters in Gotham are very cold. Every night when they can't pay the heating bill, they will hug each other for warmth in the leaky attic.
Until that day, the day Victor regretted the most.
It was a weekend, Victor remembered it clearly, and there was a heavy snowstorm in Gotham that day.
Young Victor kept asking his mother to take him to the park, which was a regular weekend activity for the mother and son.
He himself doesn't really like going out, but his mother does, especially on snowy days. That day, his mother canceled her trip for little Victor's safety.
Victor has always felt sorry for his mother, and especially during that period, due to continuous snowstorms, the income from the street stall was sluggish, and his mother always looked worried unintentionally.
He just wanted his mother to relax.
Victor's rare temper tantrum paid off. His mother took him out "fully armed" and they ran and laughed in the heavy snow.
That day was like a dream. The heavy snow made the citizens of Gotham afraid to go out. It seemed that only this mother and son were left in the whole world. They were like two elves in the pure white world.
They ran to the Gotham Lake which had frozen into ice. They leaned on the railing by the lake and admired the lake which looked like a fairyland under the heavy snow.
My mother was leaning against the railing. She was wearing a beige coat that day. The strong wind was blowing her long black hair. She was staring at the falling snow with fascination in her eyes.
It was a scene that was engraved deep in Victor's heart, but it didn't matter, because soon after, Victor did something that would make him remember it for the rest of his life.
Victor played a damn prank on his mother. While her attention was focused on the icy lake, he walked up behind her and pushed her.
It was just a little joke. Based on years of experience, the lake was already frozen, and Victor thought that this action would at most cause his mother to fall flat on her face.
But he was wrong. Maybe someone had dug an ice hole on the shore not long ago for fishing, and he wasn't very professional.
Because the snow was so heavy, the ice cave with only a thin layer of ice on the surface and the entire lake were submerged under the snow, so Victor did not notice it.
His mother fell into an ice cave, ice chips splashed everywhere, and young Victor watched his mother struggling in the icy water at a loss.
Due to the heavy snow, there was no one else in the park, so he ran desperately out of the park and to the nearby community, hoping to get help from the adults.
Although a lot of time was wasted, the mother was finally rescued. She was placed trembling on a stretcher and transferred to a nearby hospital.
Compared to the clear memory of the previous game, Victor's impression of the subsequent memories became hazy. He only remembered that he had been sitting, sitting in the ambulance, sitting in front of the emergency room, and sitting in front of the hospital bed.
Fortunately, the mother survived, but unfortunately, due to soaking in the icy lake water for too long, her nervous system was severely damaged and she suffered from a rare chorea.
This is not a simple disease. The patient's nervous system will gradually degenerate. At first, it is just the muscles twitching uncontrollably, and eventually the patient will slowly die of organ failure.
On the hospital bed, the pale-faced mother was still comforting little Victor, constantly telling him that everything would be fine.
There is no medical insurance in Gotham, and they cannot afford to stay in the hospital. Young Victor can only take his mother back to their leaky attic and continue living as if nothing had happened.
But watching his mother's health deteriorate, and seeing how she forced herself to remain optimistic even though she knew the end was nigh, little Victor felt as if his soul was being burned.
It's all my fault. There's not even the slightest possibility of being forgiven. I blame myself for everything. If I hadn't wanted to make my mother happier, she wouldn't have gotten sick. If I didn't exist, my mother would obviously be happier...
From then on, Victor hated smiling faces. He felt that he was not worthy of being happy. Even if he was in a good mood occasionally, he would feel disgusted with himself as if he had committed some heinous crime.
Victor accompanied his mother on her last journey. He watched as his mother slowly lost her mobility due to the degeneration of her nervous system, and finally became paralyzed in bed with a dull look in her eyes. Even his beloved Victor could not recognize her.
A few years later in the summer, his mother finally passed away, and Victor was even rarely happy that she no longer had to suffer from the illness.
After someone held a brief funeral for his mother, Victor walked back to Gotham Park alone, holding a ceremonial black umbrella.
Ever since his mother fell into the water that day, Victor hardly ever played here again, and even when he passed by he just passed by in a hurry.
But that day, Victor strolled there holding an umbrella as if he was out for fun, as if he hadn't been there for a long time.
He walked through the dewy grass, forcing himself to appreciate the lushness of midsummer.
He listened to the noise of the park, the chirping of birds but not much human conversation.
He walked to the railing where his mother fell into the water and looked out at the lake reflecting the moonlight.
He wanted to commit suicide by jumping into the river, ending his life which should have ended long ago.
In order not to disturb others, he even chose a time when no one would come.
But just as he walked to the lake and was about to take a last breath of human air, he suddenly noticed a blonde girl in the woods not far away.
She sat on a big rock by the lake, hugged her thighs, and looked out at the lake, with a lot of thoughts in her eyes.
Although Victor didn't like talking to people, he still put away his umbrella and walked to the girl as if possessed.
He carefully asked the girl what she was doing there and reminded her implicitly that she should leave here as soon as possible.
Unexpectedly, the girl also came to jump into the river.
Victor originally just wanted to say hello to her, but perhaps because they had the same purpose, he actually sat down on the ground and started chatting with the girl.
Victor had never spoken so much to anyone before.
They asked each other what the world after death would be like, why they wanted to commit suicide, what was the most annoying thing recently, and who they hated the most...
We asked each other about our favorite colors, favorite foods, and favorite music.
When Victor came to his senses, he was already standing in front of the bus stop, waving goodbye to the girl sitting on the bus.
NO49. Cold Heart
The unexpected encounter with the girl did not reduce Victor's suicidal thoughts, but he was in a very bad mood today, which made him want to commit suicide at another time.
He felt that he did not deserve to die in a happy mood.
When Victor returned home that night, he packed up his mother's belongings while reminiscing about the girl by the lake.
Because it was night, he couldn't really see the girl's face clearly, but the bright golden hair was still imprinted in Victor's heart.
