My first playthrough of that game took 30-40 hours, I played it with real dedication, as a trainer. Although I didn't have any legendary Pokémon in my first playthrough, I used Pikachu, Pidgeot, Venusaur (the Pokémon featured on the LeafGreen cover), and other Pokémon. My main team consisted of six Pokémon, and while their base stats weren't high, I still managed to raise them to be quite strong. It's said that Pokémon trained from lower levels are stronger than those caught directly at higher levels, and might be more likely to land critical hits. Later, after consulting guides, I started a second playthrough, but due to the limitations of the game's development period, there were only 300-400 Pokémon, far fewer than later releases. Mew in that game could be caught, but it was disobedient and not very useful in battles.
