My Healing Games
Chapter 640 Han Fei's True Home
Chapter 640 Han Fei's True Home
“Most game participants won’t reveal their identities because it would be fatal. However, there is one unusual player in this city. His name is Rose, and many people also call him Number Nineteen.” Li Guo’er was very interested in Han Fei’s suggestion. She could hardly deal with the “ghost” by herself. The best way was to drag more people into the mess.
"Rose? Another name that sounds familiar." Han Fei and Li Guo'er kept pace, running wildly in the shadows of the street.
"This Rose was an orphan since childhood and has an eccentric personality. He once publicly revealed his identity and the existence of the game on television, hoping that all participants could unite. When everyone thought he wouldn't live for more than three hours, he reappeared on television the next night, surrounded by a large group of people."
"A lot of people?" Han Fei asked, puzzled. "How did he manage to gather all those game participants together?"
"Although those people were all wearing white masks, most of them were self-made fake masks. The proportion of real game participants among that group was very small, but it was still a remarkable thing." Li Guo'er didn't know how Qiangwei did it. Most game participants couldn't trust each other because of the points system, but Qiangwei and the game participants around him could entrust their backs to each other for protection.
"That's pretty impressive." Han Fei changed the subject: "Shall we go and bring the ghost to them now to deal with it?"
“Yes, Rose is the only participant in the game who has publicly acknowledged his existence. He even held a masquerade ball for this desperate death game in an attempt to increase trust among everyone.” Li Guo’er changed her tune. Originally, she didn’t trust Rose and wasn’t planning to contact him, but now she had no better choice.
“This Rose No. 19 is indeed quite capable. No. 19…” Han Fei repeated Rose’s number over and over again. He glanced at his script and noticed something strange: “The eleventh story is called No. 11, and the forty-fourth story is called No. 4. Both of these scripts are written in red pen and are much longer than the other stories. It’s as if they were specially marked.”
Given the critical situation, Han Fei couldn't consider the connection between the two stories for the time being. He planned to figure out the past of Number Eleven first before looking into Number Four's story.
"Han Fei..."
While his mind was filled with all sorts of questions, Han Fei suddenly heard a very familiar voice calling him. He instinctively turned his neck, and just as he was about to turn around, he suddenly remembered Li Guo'er's instructions.
No turning back!
Running through the dark, narrow streets, Han Fei forced himself not to look back. The thrill of being on the brink of death was like a stimulant, making his brain excited while he felt fear.
“I’ve done something similar before! When I force myself not to turn back, it’s like my body’s instincts are being awakened again.”
Han Fei has lost all his past, but the instincts he has honed through life and death are helping him piece together the threads of his memories.
"I may have actually participated in a similar game. The person who got 99 points was most likely myself. But after experiencing everything, why did I lose my memory? Was the game itself a scam? Would I be stripped of my memory and become an idiot after getting 100 points?"
Han Fei felt he was getting closer to the truth. He had to play that game, but this time he couldn't be the first to reach the finish line.
Looking at Li Guo'er, Han Fei felt he needed to help someone become the new queen of this game.
The faint sounds behind him continued to come, but Han Fei felt used to it; he often heard all sorts of sounds in his mind.
Sometimes Han Fei felt as if he were standing at a crossroads, with countless roads in front of him, and someone calling out to him from each road.
Most of these roads lead to death, but one road leads to the unknown.
His arm began to ache again, and blood seeped from the numerous wounds. When Han Fei looked down, he noticed a black handprint on his arm, as if someone had grabbed him.
As he looked back following the handprint, his entire body was pulled backward, and he quickly looked away.
No matter what he felt on his body or back, or what was lying on him, he wouldn't turn around.
At 10:30 p.m., Li Guo'er led Han Fei to a building located on the city's central axis.
Far from the amusement park, this place looks like an ordinary guesthouse from the outside, with a huge sign hanging at the entrance that reads "Perfect Life".
"A perfect life? Are you sure you're not in the wrong place? This looks like a love hotel."
Han Fei stopped at the entrance of the guesthouse, staring at the handmade signboard, the words "Perfect Life" reflected in his eyes.
"Put on the mask, and whatever you do, don't let your cat run around." Li Guo'er patted Han Fei on the shoulder: "Don't reveal that you have amnesia. The stronger you are, the more likely we are to persuade them. Nobody here likes to be friends with the weak, not even superficially."
After speaking, Li Guo'er put on her mask.
"Your masks all seem to only show smiling faces, never tears..."
Pushing open the door of the guesthouse, the two walked through long corridors, at the end of which was a bar filled with wine and flowers.
"This way, please, all three of you." Seeing the white masks worn by Li Guo'er and Han Fei, the bartender smiled and personally led them to the second floor of the guesthouse.
"Three people?" Li Guo'er reached out and patted the waiter's shoulder: "Don't turn around, tell me, what does the third person look like?"
"He..." The waiter instinctively turned around to look, but the third person had vanished again: "Where is he?"
"Come with us, and don't go out unnecessarily." Li Guo'er spoke crisply and decisively, displaying a very cool demeanor.
"Okay." The waiter felt a little pressured and didn't dare to ask any more questions. He led the two to a room at the end of the corridor on the second floor.
As the door was pushed open, music wafted out, and when the light shone on it, more than a dozen pairs of eyes turned towards the doorway.
"Welcome to our two new friends!" A voice that sounded familiar to Han Fei rang out. The man was wearing a plaid shirt, holding a wine bottle, and lounging on the sofa.
The man was the only one in the room who wasn't wearing a mask. When he saw someone come in, he staggered to his feet, grabbed a wine glass, and walked toward Li Guo'er.
"I am the owner of this Perfect Life B&B. Everyone usually calls me the boss. If you don't mind, you can call me that too."
Before the man claiming to be the boss could even get close, he was stopped by a long-haired man: "Put on your mask."
The man spoke without any consideration for his boss, his voice icy cold. Strangely, Han Fei found the long-haired man's voice familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere before.
"Rose, stop looking so serious. Give up, we're stuck here." The boss said drunkenly, "I don't want the black box anymore, I'll find you a different target."
"You're drunk." The long-haired man, Rose, waved his hand. "Achong, take the boss back inside."
A short man with scars all over his arms walked out from the corner. He was about to drag the boss away when his eyes suddenly fell on the scars on the cuffs of Han Fei's suit.
"Can I see your arm?" Ah Chong pushed the boss onto the sofa, walked straight to Han Fei, and pointed at Han Fei's arm: "You seem to have the same hobby as me."
Han Fei rolled up his sleeves in a daze, and his arm, covered in countless wounds, made everyone in the room gasp.
"I never expected to meet like-minded people here. I hope we can exchange ideas more often."
"Achong, take the boss inside." Qiangwei interrupted Achong, staring intently at Han Fei standing behind Li Guoer, his eyes behind the mask filled with apprehension and doubt: "You two should know our rules here, right?"
“I can give you some information about ‘ghosts’.” Li Guo’er recounted her experience that evening and explained the current situation: she had been targeted by a ghost, and the ghost had already come here.
After Li Guo'er finished speaking, everyone turned to look at A Chong. White masks covered their faces, and Han Fei didn't know why they were doing this.
After helping the boss back to the house, Ah Chong walked towards Li Guo'er. He looked for a long time but didn't find anything. However, when he got close to Han Fei, it was as if he suddenly saw a starving tiger lying in the grass by the roadside. He was so frightened that he retreated repeatedly.
"He, he, he's dead!" Ah Chong immediately hid behind Qiangwei, and everyone else in the room was on high alert.
Watched by those masks, Han Fei did not feel any discomfort or fear. He himself wondered why so many people could not make him feel the slightest bit uneasy.
"Words can be dangerous, I'm warning you not to talk nonsense." Li Guo'er took a step back. She was there to discuss cooperation, and she didn't want to become the prey.
“Rose, Ah Chong, I think I really saw a ghost outside. They weren’t lying.” The male waiter suddenly spoke up, pointing behind Han Fei: “When the two of them came into the store just now, there was a man in a hospital gown following behind them with his head down, very close. I was wondering what the relationship was between the three of them?”
“Perhaps being followed by a ghost for too long will cause you to be tainted by something, leading to your misunderstandings.” Li Guo’er was trying to exonerate Han Fei. She knew that she was the ghost’s primary target, and the ghost had been with her for much longer than with Han Fei.
Silence fell in the room. A minute later, Rose pulled Ah Chong back and raised her hand: "Let's vote by raising hands. Those who oppose their joining, raise your hands."
There were two women behind the table. When they saw Rose raise her hand, they also raised their hands.
“We’ve risked our lives to find out what ‘ghost hunting’ really means, and you’ve forbidden us from hunting other game participants. At this rate, when will we ever accumulate enough points?” A burly, bald man stood up. “I think we should let them join. This is a good opportunity to see what ‘ghosts’ are.”
"That makes sense." None of the people around the bald man raised their hands.
"Qianye, F, what do you two think?" Rose frowned slightly, her voice sounding somewhat low.
"I don't care, I'm forfeiting, and I won't take the blame if anything goes wrong." The man called Qianye was dressed very flamboyantly and in a very flashy style. He didn't seem to be here to play a life-or-death game; he seemed more like he was here on vacation.
"Inaction is the captain's fault." Rose couldn't control Qianye, so she looked at the last person in the crowd. The person was wearing a black trench coat and had an extremely gloomy aura. He was toying with a black invitation in his hand.
“I don’t object to them joining, provided they’re not lying.” The man in the trench coat put away the black invitation and stood up from his seat.
The man wasn't very tall, but when he stood up, everyone around him fell silent, and even the music seemed to turn eerie.
After finishing his drink, the man walked up to Han Fei and Li Guo'er and said, "The longer we wait, the more things might go wrong. Let's go check out that building now."
"Since the ghosts have followed them, we might as well stay here and wait for them to tire themselves out," Rose said cautiously.
“We know absolutely nothing about ‘ghosts.’ Staying here is just like being lambs to the slaughter. We might as well go and learn about the past of ghosts and the reasons for their formation. Only by figuring these things out will we have a chance to ‘catch ghosts,’ gain a lot of points, and send everyone out.” The man in the trench coat turned to look at Rose: “Opportunities are fleeting. If we don’t try to seize them, we’ll definitely regret it later.”
“Only three of us received invitations. Actually, I’m more interested in figuring out your past than the ghost’s past.” Rose lowered her hand. Most of the people in the room agreed to let Han Fei and Li Guo’er join them; they wanted to go to the place where the ghost appeared.
"I'll tell you later, but not now. I can only say that I know more about this game than you do." The man nicknamed F stood next to Rose: "Those who are planning to come with me tonight, please let Rose know."
"I'll go with you." Rose's voice carried a hint of displeasure; strictly speaking, he was the one in charge here.
“If you and I both die, then we might really never get out of here, so no matter what, one of us has to stay in a safe place.” After F finished speaking, he grabbed Ah Chong: “Just let him come with me.”
The players began organizing their items, and fifteen minutes later, seven players, including F and Achong, followed Li Guo'er and Han Fei out of Perfect Life.
Perhaps because there were many people, the ghost did not chase after them, and Han Fei did not hear anyone calling his name again.
“We’ll try to finish our investigation and come back before midnight. I heard that the ‘ghost’ becomes even stronger and more terrifying after midnight.” Li Guo’er had achieved her goal. She led all the players to the location marked on the script—Building 11 of Happiness Apartment, the place where No. 11 last disappeared and where his last adoptive parents lived.
As Han Fei walked through the streets shrouded in darkness, his heart beat faster and faster as he got closer to the apartment buildings, as if he had lived here before and those apartment buildings were his true home.
"Do my real parents live here?"
The old apartment buildings were built together, each with its own number. Han Fei and his group were going to Building 11, but Han Fei stood there blankly for a long time in front of Building 1.
"There should be a light left on for me. Yes, my real home should be here!"
