The Queen of Scrolls never admits defeat
Chapter 996 Little Vasita
The night Moran created the Seran version of the magic camera, the consciousness of the Tree Spirit Mother rang in her ears.
She quickly grabbed the magic camera and ran towards the outskirts of the tribe, to Celine's treehouse.
Bright, soft green light shone through the treehouse windows, giving the surrounding vines and hanging dried herbs an ethereal glow.
A trembling voice, filled with excitement, came from inside the room:
"...The cocoon of life seems to be moving..."
"The color of the cocoon has reached the critical point, Lady Lila, is it almost there?"
"Hmm. The rate at which it absorbs energy is getting slower and slower; it could hatch at any moment."
"The baby is almost born! This baby can eat so much!"
……
Moran didn't knock. She lightly jumped onto the outdoor platform and peered inside through the not-quite-closed window.
The room was tidy and warm. A thick carpet of moss covered the center, upon which the cocoon of life rested, radiating a stable and full glow.
Celine and Lila knelt on either side of the cocoon, their hands gently resting on its shell, as a continuous stream of natural energy flowed into it.
Their eyes were fixed on the cocoon, their expressions more focused and tender than ever before.
Moran held her breath and pointed the camera lens into the room.
Suddenly, a very faint "poof" sound came from the top of the cocoon.
It wasn't a crack; it was more like some kind of internal pressure reached a critical point, gently pushing open the weakest part.
Celine gasped, and Lila's hand tightened slightly.
The gap widened rapidly, and the cocoon shell, like blooming petals, gracefully unfolded and fell away, revealing the tiny figure curled up inside.
She was a fair-skinned, chubby little elf.
Lila's dark green curly hair, just like Celine's, was wet and clung to her forehead, and the outline of her face still faintly revealed her calm and elegant demeanor.
She seemed startled by the light from the outside world; her fine eyelashes trembled a few times before she slowly opened her eyes.
After seeing the memories passed down by the nature spirits, Vasita finally accepted the fact that she had become an unhatched cocoon.
Opening her eyes, seeing two excited faces and sensing their familiar aura and weakened state, Vasita's heart softened.
Even though she became an elf baby, she was still a glutton with a large stomach.
Just by looking at the elf mothers, you can tell how much they have sacrificed in nurturing and incubating them.
Vasita tried to use her newly formed, still somewhat clumsy vocal cords, stammering out the simplest elven word she had learned from her inherited memories: "Mama!"
Celine's lips moved, and she looked at Lila in disbelief: "Did the baby call for Mom?"
Lila nodded emphatically, then reached out, her fingertips trembling, and touched the baby's cheek very, very lightly.
At that very moment, a clear "click" came from the direction of the window!
Vasita was drawn by the sound and turned her gaze to the window.
She saw a strange elf standing there holding something that looked like a camera.
She, who devoured a witch, was transformed into a tiny elf baby, and this embarrassing moment of her past was captured on film?
Vasita's alarm bells rang in her mind. She subconsciously raised her little hand to cover her face, and then peeked out through her slightly parted fingers.
The elf... was smiling, and her eyes gave her a strange sense of familiarity.
"Moran!" Celine exclaimed excitedly upon seeing Moran at the window, "Your magic camera is finished? Can it really capture images that never fade?" "Of course!" Moran climbed in through the window, waving the camera in his hand. "My camera can not only capture images, but also sound. I've already taken a picture of what just happened. I'll send you a copy once it's developed!"
"Thank you!" Lila and Celine were both very excited, but their eyes couldn't bear to leave the baby in their arms for even a second.
Vasita: "!!!"
Moran!
Although it is Elvish, its unique syllable combination translates exactly to the witch's word "Moran"!
Moran also happened to come to the world of Thran, which added to the "sense of familiarity".
Vasita lowered her small hand that was blocking her eyes and stared intently at Moran as he approached.
“She seems to be looking at you, Moran,” Celine said with a smile, noticing the child’s gaze.
Moran walked closer and winked playfully at Vasita, who was still in swaddling clothes.
It really is Moran!
Vasita immediately realized it.
The joy of meeting a good friend in another world made her completely forget that she was still a baby. She kept wriggling and trying to get into Moran's arms, making indistinct "ah! ah!" sounds. A string of glistening drool "splashed" down with each movement, dripping onto Celine's arm.
"Pfft haha!"
Moran was overjoyed and reacted quickly by raising his camera, accurately capturing the "classic moment" of Vasita drooling and eagerly flapping her wings.
Vasita froze: "..."
His eyes were filled with accusation of being betrayed by his friend.
"She seems to really like you, Moran!" Celine looked at the child's lively manner, feeling both amused and gratified. She carefully lifted Vasita towards Moran, asking, "Want a hug?"
Moran nodded, knelt down on one knee on the soft moss blanket, stretched out her arms, and gently cradled the baby version of Vasita, who was still trying to "condemn" her with her eyes.
After holding her securely, she didn't forget to turn the camera lens around, stretch out her arm, and take a close-up selfie of herself and the puffed-up Vasita in her arms.
This time, Vasita learned her lesson. She kept her mouth tightly shut, puffed out her cheeks, and stared at Moran with her big eyes, trying to convey the message "That's enough."
Moran was amused by her appearance and gently pinched her soft cheeks. Then, a faint, vibrant emerald light emanated from her fingertips and she lightly touched her forehead.
"This is advanced wood language. Now you don't need to speak; we can understand what you mean!"
Moran explained, "Little one, what's your name?"
Vasita silently composed herself: "Vasita!"
Celine was extremely surprised: "Lady Lila, did you hear that? She can express clear thoughts so quickly!"
Lila nodded: "I knew our child was special!"
Normally, a baby elf wouldn't consume that much energy from its parents during the gestation process.
Moran had anticipated this. Her smile widened, and she lowered her head to affectionately rub her forehead against Vasita's, responding in kind with wood-based language:
"Welcome to the Emerald Forest, Vasita. Enjoy your 'childhood'!"
Vasita turned her head away: "Hmph!"
Just then, Moran felt the Tree Spirit Mother calling to her.
Moran looked up and gazed in the direction of Polly's house.
"What's wrong, Moran?" Celine noticed her gaze. (End of Chapter)
