Chapter 385 This place is really dangerous
Chapter 385 This place is really dangerous
"Hurry up!" Yu Xi urged.
Su Hanze pushed Chen Yongfu into the car, and A Biao and Yu Xi jumped in after him. The middle-aged man stood at the alley entrance, seemingly not intending to follow. Su Hanze glanced at him and said coldly, "You'd better not try anything funny."
The middle-aged man didn't speak, but simply nodded, then turned and disappeared into the alley.
The car sped off down the side road. The atmosphere inside was tense. Chen Yongfu huddled in a corner, head bowed, afraid to utter a sound. A Biao sat beside him, the knife still in his hand, his eyes fixed on him fiercely.
"What do we do now?" Yu Xi turned to look at Su Hanze, her voice tinged with anxiety. "Those people are clearly after us; they're probably Boss Huang's men."
Su Hanze didn't answer immediately, his mind racing. Huang Dexing's reaction was faster than he expected, which meant their actions had been monitored for a long time. The shadowy figure of Old Deng loomed behind them, making him feel as if he had stepped into an even larger vortex.
"Let's find a place to stay first," Su Hanze finally spoke. "Acheng, drive towards Kowloon and find an inconspicuous place."
Acheng nodded, the car turned a corner, and disappeared into the night.
The car drove for more than half an hour before finally stopping in front of a dilapidated building. This was near Kowloon Walled City; the streets were narrow, the lights were dim, and the surrounding area was filled with low buildings and cluttered signs. Su Hanze led everyone out of the car and into the inconspicuous building.
The hallway reeked of cooking oil mixed with the stench of garbage. Su Hanze pushed open a door, revealing a simple room with only a few pieces of worn-out furniture. A Biao pushed Chen Yongfu into a corner, making him sit on the floor, then leaned against the door, listening warily to any sounds outside.
"Is it safe here?" Yu Xi frowned, looking around. "This place doesn't look safe."
"It's safe for now," Su Hanze said calmly. "No one would suspect we're hiding here."
He walked up to Chen Yongfu, squatted down, and stared into his eyes: "You better pray that what you're saying is true. If I find out you're lying, you know the consequences."
Chen Yongfu nodded hurriedly, his voice trembling: "I didn't lie! I really didn't lie!"
Su Hanze didn't speak again. He stood up, walked to the window, and pulled back the curtain a little to look outside. The streets were deserted, with only a few streetlights flickering. He knew this was only temporary calm; Huang Dexing and Old Deng's forces would soon find their trail.
"Ah Biao, keep an eye on him," Su Hanze said in a low voice. "Yu Xi, go contact Lao Dao and have him investigate Jin Haiwan and that Lin Feng."
Yu Xi nodded, took out her pager, and went to a corner to make a call. A Biao sat next to Chen Yongfu, twirling the knife handle in his hand, which frightened Chen Yongfu so much that he didn't dare to breathe.
Su Hanze leaned against the wall, lit a cigarette, and took a deep drag. The smoke rose slowly in the dim light, but his gaze grew increasingly cold. Old Deng—that name weighed heavily on his heart like a boulder. He knew this trouble was far greater than he had imagined.
"Hey, Lao Dao?" Yu Xi's voice came from the corner. "Yes, it's me. Help me find a place called Golden Bay, and a person named Lin Feng with a scar on his face... Yes, the sooner the better."
After hanging up the phone, Yu Xi walked back to Su Hanze's side and whispered, "Old Dao said there should be news tonight."
"Okay." Su Hanze nodded and exhaled a puff of smoke. "We'll decide on the next step once we get the news."
As night deepened, the Kowloon Walled City remained bustling. A few dilapidated streetlights cast a faint glow through the thick smog, illuminating the weathered walls of the buildings. The air was heavy and stifling, thick with the smells of cooking oil and mildew; every corner seemed permeated with the stench of decay. In stark contrast to the outside clamor, the building itself was eerily quiet, as if completely isolated from the world.
Su Hanze stood by the window, his sharp eyes fixed on the street outside. Although the building looked dilapidated and low, he knew that only in a place like this could he temporarily escape those people. The complex structure and hidden alleys of Kowloon Walled City were the perfect hiding place; even if Huang Dexing's men came looking for them, they wouldn't have an easy time finding them.
Inside the room, Chen Yongfu sat in a corner, his face pale, his hands nervously twisting the hem of his clothes. He could feel the oppressive atmosphere around him; everyone seemed like a powder keg ready to explode at any moment. A Biao sat beside him, gripping the hilt of a knife, his eyes never leaving him, like a predator eyeing its prey. Yu Xi stood to the side, her expression complex, looking at Su Hanze, her lips moving slightly as if she had many things to say, but ultimately said nothing.
“Have you ever considered,” she finally spoke, her voice almost drowned out, “that this trouble is far more serious than we thought. That old fox, Deng, is no simple opponent.”
Su Hanze didn't turn around, his eyes still fixed on the view outside the window. He said in a low voice, "I know. There's something behind Old Deng that we've only seen the surface of before. Huang Dexing's relationship with him has long since gone beyond just business cooperation." He paused, "I suspect they've been watching us for a while now."
These words made the atmosphere in the room even more tense. A-Biao didn't make a sound, only tightened his grip on the knife. Yu-Xi frowned, seemingly deep in thought.
Su Hanze turned around and looked at Chen Yongfu, still with that indifferent expression: "Do you have anything to add? The Lin Feng you mentioned and the Golden Bay matter can't just be your speculation." His tone was flat, but every word felt like a heavy stone pressing on Chen Yongfu's heart.
Chen Yongfu raised his head, his face unnatural. He swallowed hard, thought for a moment, and said in a low voice, "I... I only know that Lin Feng is one of Huang Dexing's men, and that Deng Lao is also behind him. That place in Jinhai Bay is where they used to deal with those who didn't cooperate. If you... want to get to the bottom of this, you'll have to go to Jinhai Bay."
“Golden Bay?” Yu Xi frowned and repeated in a low voice, “I’ve heard of this place. It’s a remote area, and no one dares to go there casually. No one lives there anymore; it’s basically an abandoned area.”
“But Lin Feng often appears there.” A hint of fear flashed in Chen Yongfu’s eyes. “If you want to know the truth, you have to go there. Although that place is incredibly chaotic, no one dares to make a move there, since it has been divided up into territories by various forces.”
Su Hanze nodded: "Okay, we'll wait for Lao Dao's news before making a decision."
A few minutes later, Yu Xi's pager rang again. She quickly picked it up, pressed the switch, and answered in a low voice, "Hello, Lao Dao?"
"News has arrived." Old Knife's voice came through the microphone, slightly hoarse. "Golden Bay is indeed an abandoned place, but a small gang is currently active in the area. Lin Feng has some connections with those people. Moreover, there are some suspicious signs around Golden Bay. My men have already started investigating, and I expect they will find more information soon."
"Do you know the name of that gang?" Yu Xi asked nervously. "Not yet." Lao Dao paused, "However, they have close ties with Huang Dexing. You need to be careful; my men will continue to follow up."
Yu Xi hung up the phone and looked at Su Hanze, a hint of seriousness flashing in her eyes: "Old Dao is right, Jin Haiwan is not a simple place. It may not just be Huang Dexing's people, but even Old Deng may have sent people there."
Su Hanze was silent for a moment, then raised his hand and patted the wall, clearly having made a decision: "We can't wait any longer, we'll go tonight. Acheng, get the car ready."
Chen Yongfu's face grew even paler. He looked up at Su Hanze in a panic: "Are you really planning to go to Golden Bay? It's too dangerous there, what if..."
"Shut up." Su Hanze interrupted him coldly. "Do you think saying these things will change anything? You'd better stay here obediently, or I'll show you what real danger is."
Chen Yongfu quickly lowered his head, cold sweat beading on his forehead. His fear stemmed not only from Su Hanze's threat, but also from the unknown nature of Golden Bay. He knew that once inside, anyone could vanish without a trace.
Su Hanze lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and his eyes were sharp as knives: "A Biao, Yu Xi, get ready. We need to find Lin Feng as soon as possible and find out what's behind this."
The car drove out of Kowloon Walled City and sped along several narrow streets. The night wind howled, blowing in through the car windows with a damp, chilly feel. Ah Cheng focused on driving, occasionally glancing at the rearview mirror, his gaze sweeping over everyone in the car, his eyes filled with alertness.
Su Hanze sat in the back seat, his hands crossed on his lap, his brows slightly furrowed, his eyes flashing with deep thought. Yu Xi sat beside him, her lips slightly parted, but she didn't speak. A Biao leaned against the car door, his eyes constantly scanning the surroundings, a sharp knife clutched in his hand, ready to deal with any unexpected situation.
“We can’t delay any longer,” Su Hanze said in a low voice, breaking the silence in the car. “Although Lao Dao said there’s some gang activity in Golden Bay, it’s definitely not as simple as we think. In any case, we have to find out what’s hidden there tonight.”
“I know,” Yu Xi said hesitantly, “but if it really is Huang Dexing’s people, or even Old Deng’s people over there, then it’s not something we can easily handle. What if something goes wrong…”
“I know what you’re worried about,” Su Hanze calmly interrupted her, “but if we don’t act, we’ll just be waiting to die. The only thing we can do now is go there first, find out what they’re doing, and then decide what to do next.”
Yu Xi lowered her head, remained silent for a moment, and finally nodded: "I understand."
The car drove north, passing through many sparsely populated neighborhoods, leaving the bustling city center and entering a more desolate area. As the roar of the wheels gradually faded, the surrounding silence became oppressive, the air filled with the smell of earth, and occasionally the barking of dogs and the sound of scattered footsteps in the distance could be heard.
"We're almost there," Acheng said in a low voice, his eyes fixed on the road ahead.
The car turned into a narrow street, flanked by abandoned factories and old warehouses. The broken iron gates and rusty window frames added to the desolate atmosphere. There were no other vehicles along the way, and only a few dim streetlights provided a meager illumination for the road ahead.
Golden Bay's location is clearly out of place with its surroundings. Although it's an abandoned area, it's still contested by various factions. There's no regular street management in this area; the chaotic buildings, graffiti on the walls, and dilapidated signs everywhere all indicate the disorder and danger here.
The car finally stopped at a relatively secluded alleyway. Su Hanze, Yu Xi, and Abiao quickly got out of the car, while Chen Yongfu was still forced to get out as well. He looked around, his expression becoming increasingly tense, with obvious fear flashing in his eyes.
"You must be careful, it's really dangerous here." Chen Yongfu lowered his voice, as if he were begging for mercy, or as if he were talking to himself.
"Stop arguing and follow us." Su Hanze glared at him coldly, then took the lead and walked forward.
The door at the alley entrance was a dilapidated iron gate, the walls outside covered in grime and peeling paint. Su Hanze waved his hand, signaling Abiao to push the door open. Abiao didn't hesitate, stepped forward, and forcefully pulled open the heavy iron door. The scene inside made the air feel even more oppressive, a chilling atmosphere rushing out.
They entered a small courtyard, overgrown with weeds and appearing utterly abandoned. The surrounding buildings were all enclosed, with broken windows and scattered trash visible. There was little human noise, only the occasional chirping of birds or barking of dogs; the entire area was deathly silent.
“Golden Bay…” Yu Xi said softly, her brows furrowed, “The atmosphere here is really unsettling.”
"Stay alert." Su Hanze didn't stop and continued walking forward.
They crossed the courtyard and came to a low building. It looked like an abandoned warehouse, with several broken wooden crates piled up at the entrance. Su Hanze stopped and quietly observed for a moment, scanning his surroundings to make sure no one was watching them.
“Go inside,” he said.
Ah Biao shoved open the large, somewhat rusty iron gate with a jarring sound. Darkness enveloped everything inside, and a damp, musty smell filled the air.
They cautiously entered the warehouse. The interior was simply furnished, with scraps of paper and broken planks scattered on the floor. A few dim light bulbs hung from the ceiling, their faint light barely illuminating a small area. Su Hanze's gaze was immediately drawn to a few people in the corner; their figures appeared blurry in the lamplight.
"Lin Feng?" Su Hanze asked, his voice low.
A burly, tall man looked up, a hint of wariness flashing in his eyes. He suddenly stood up, a cold smile on his face: "Who are you?"
“We’re here to see you,” Su Hanze said calmly. “There are some things we need to say to you in person.”
"Looking for me?" Lin Feng sneered. "Have you come to the wrong place? This is not a place for you."
“I know you’re one of Huang Dexing’s men, and I also know you have some dealings with Elder Deng.” Su Hanze’s tone remained unchanged. “You also know that Huang Dexing and Elder Deng don’t take us seriously. We’re here this time to find out what you’re up to.”
