Chapter 613 Throw It Down
Silent all night.
Lin Bei said he would wait until daytime to see how they performed the exorcism, and he actually waited quietly.
Just as dawn broke, there was a knock on the door, and a bald monk's cold voice came from outside: "Get up, everyone gather at the church to prepare for prayer."
Lin Bei snapped his fingers to retrieve the black liquid, then kicked Constantine and Malek, who were sleeping on separate beds, one after the other: "Get up."
Marek was used to waking up at this time, so he got up without any complaints.
Constantine rubbed his hair, looking impatient: "I don't know what's wrong with this monastery. We're not full-time monks, so why do we have to pray together? Will we die if a few of us are missing?"
Lin Bei chuckled but didn't say anything, while Marek looked at Constantine with a gloomy expression: "Don't talk nonsense. There's something wrong with this monastery. If we don't go to pray, the situation you described might really happen."
After saying that, Marek abandoned Constantine and Lin Bei, opened the door, and walked out.
Lin Bei glanced at Constantine with a half-smile: "Look at you, you said the wrong thing and got scolded. Get up quickly, I still want to see the exorcism scene."
Constantine scratched his head helplessly, and had no choice but to get up and follow Lin Bei outside.
When Lin Bei and Constantine arrived at the church, all the other monks were already waiting there.
There were about twenty monks in the monastery. They stood silently on both sides of the church. When they heard footsteps, they all looked at Lin Bei and Constantine.
All the monks stared blankly at Lin Bei and Constantine, as if blaming them for arriving too late.
The abbot stood at the front of the line with a gloomy expression and said coldly, "You are three minutes late. Be sure to arrive on time tomorrow."
Lin Bei and Constantine exchanged a glance. Normally, they would have simply turned around and left without paying any attention to such a situation.
Out of curiosity about what secrets this monastery might hold, Lin Bei and Constantine decided to hold back for a while.
Lin Bei didn't speak, and Constantine waved his hand dismissively: "I know, I'll be on time next time."
After saying that, the two walked to the very end of the line.
The abbot's expression darkened further. He wanted to say something, but as if remembering something, he didn't say anything, only staring thoughtfully at Lin Bei and Constantine.
After they were in place, the abbot led the monks in prayer.
This prayer lasted for more than an hour.
Lin Bei and Constantine hid at the back of the line and dozed off until the prayer ended, when Lin Bei finally heard a topic that interested him.
The abbot solemnly glanced at the monks below and slowly said, "Seven nearby townspeople need help. All the monks in the monastery must participate in the exorcism ritual. Bring them up now."
After hearing this, Lin Bei raised an eyebrow and whispered in Constantine's ear, "This abbot is acting strangely. Why does he seem to have no respect for the person who needs exorcism?"
Constantine really wanted a smoke, but this was a monastery, and he didn't want to attract attention, so he rubbed his fingers together and muttered impatiently, "You're right. Even when I'm doing exorcisms, I'm not this arrogant. This doesn't seem like he's planning an exorcism. Let's see what's going on."
Lin Bei and Constantine stood at the edge, quietly watching the monks lead the seven townspeople into the church.
The seven townspeople had their hands tied in front of them and their eyes covered with white cloths. They were all somewhat dirty, and their unsteady gait suggested they were not normal people.
Lin Bei and Constantine exchanged a glance, both seeing subtle expressions in each other's eyes.
Both of them realized that these so-called townspeople were not possessed by demons or evil spirits at all.
They might even walk unsteadily, as if they have no self-awareness, which is not caused by possession at all.
It's as if they've been tortured for a long time and have lost their self-awareness.
Lin Bei suddenly remembered an important part of the original plot.
This monastery does indeed claim to "help" others under the pretext of exorcising demons, but in reality, the entire monastery worships demons.
They were actually choosing suitable containers to serve as mediums for demons to come to earth.
Lin Bei smiled slightly, and Constantine immediately noticed: "Hey, do you know something? Tell me."
Lin Bei raised his chin, crossed his arms, and leaned against the wall: "Just you wait and see, something bad is bound to happen tonight."
Constantine scratched his head, looking at the center of the church with a puzzled expression.
At this point, the "exorcism" ritual has begun.
Seven townspeople lay flat on specially made wooden planks, surrounded by all the monks.
Constantine initially thought it was just a routine exorcism, but to his surprise, under the abbot's direction, monks stood beside the seven townspeople, each carrying a bucket.
Constantine covered his nose, his brow furrowed, and asked in a muffled voice, "What's going on? The smell of blood? Since when did exorcisms require the use of blood?"
Lin Bei shrugged: "Just watch."
The exorcism ritual continued.
The abbot recited a passage in an incomprehensible language. After he finished, the seven monks reached into the small bucket and scooped out a sticky, disgusting substance with their bare hands.
Constantine frowned: "Holy crap, what is that? Human blood? It looks like a part of a person. What is it?"
Constantine was greatly shocked, staring intently at the center of the church as the seven monks transferred the sticky substance they were carrying onto the seven townspeople.
Almost instantly, the seven townspeople began to convulse and struggle violently.
The abbot circled the seven townspeople until they quieted down, then began chanting another strange incantation.
Even after the incantation ended, the seven townspeople lying on the wooden planks remained unresponsive.
The abbot seemed very unhappy; his previously expectant expression instantly fell.
The abbot, seemingly unwilling to give up, circled the seven townspeople again. Seeing that they really didn't react, he impatiently waved his hand and said, "Take them away and dispose of them!"
The monks nodded silently and dragged the seven townspeople away like dead dogs.
The abbot beckoned several monks to his side, whispered a few words, and then glanced casually in the direction of Lin Bei and Constantine.
The monks nodded and walked toward Lin Bei and Constantine.
Lin Bei possessed absolute strength and was not afraid of what the monastery might do to him.
When the monks arrived, they coldly addressed Lin Bei and Constantine, saying, "The exorcism ritual has failed. You must participate in the second one tonight." Constantine frowned slightly, about to point out the problem with their exorcism ritual, but Lin Bei raised his hand to stop him.
Lin Bei smiled slightly and asked, "So, how many people will be exorcised during tonight's exorcism ceremony?"
The monk was slightly taken aback, not expecting Lin Bei to ask such a question. He frowned slightly and said, "One person. Anyway, remember to participate."
After saying this, the monk ignored Lin Bei and his companion, lowered his head, and hurriedly left.
Seeing that the exorcism ritual was over, Lin Bei and Constantine returned to their room, only to find that Marek was already there.
Lin Bei looked at the pale-faced Marek and smiled slightly: "Marek, do you know that the exorcism ritual failed? And there is another exorcism ritual tonight."
Lin Bei asked this question because he noticed that Marek quietly left halfway through the exorcism ritual.
Marek, who had been lost in thought, was taken aback when he heard Lin Bei's words: "The exorcism ritual couldn't have succeeded... That wasn't an exorcism ritual at all... But what did you say? There's going to be another exorcism ritual tonight? That shouldn't be the case. This monastery strictly forbids monks from moving around at night, and there's absolutely no way they would arrange an exorcism ritual... Why is this happening?"
Marek was very nervous.
He had decided to escape the monastery that very night and had already turned a monk against him, who provided a secret passage and offered to take him away.
But now that they've suddenly announced there will be an exorcism ritual that night, Marek can't help but feel nervous.
Lin Bei knew, of course, that the exorcism ritual tonight was prepared for Marek. Seeing that Marek looked nervous, he didn't say anything, just smiled and turned to chat with Constantine about other things.
After Marek became anxious and hurriedly left the room to find his informant, Lin Bei smiled at Constantine and said, "I didn't expect things to go so smoothly. There's going to be a good show tonight."
Constantine gave him the middle finger: "Then tell me what's going on? Even movies have trailers, but you've got nothing, so you're just keeping me in the dark, aren't you?"
Lin Bei looked at Constantine with sympathy: "Well, there's nothing I can do. This is the difference in strength. I knew what was going to happen as soon as I entered the monastery, but you, Constantine, with your abilities, it's normal that you can't see it. Let me put it this way, the one who will be exorcised tonight is Marek."
Constantine looked over in surprise, and seeing that Lin Bei didn't seem to be joking, he couldn't help but feel a little expectant.
Soon, night fell.
Under the supervision of the monks, Lin Bei and Constantine arrived at the church.
Lin Bei glanced around and understood.
Marek wasn't there, nor was the bald monk who opened the door for them yesterday.
Furthermore, the abbot and several other monks were also absent.
Judging from the current situation, the bald monk has already led Marek into the monastery's underground passage, while the abbot is leading the monks to capture Marek.
The abbot was temporarily absent, and the church was filled with monks. No one spoke; they waited quietly for the abbot to arrive.
The church was eerily quiet.
Constantine, having been spoiled by Lin Bei, roughly understood what was going on. He stood beside Lin Bei with his arms crossed, waiting silently.
A short while later, a commotion arose from the church entrance.
Lin Bei and Constantine looked over at the same time and saw the abbot slowly walk into the church.
Behind him, several monks supported Marek and carried him into the church.
Marek struggled and screamed, "What are you going to do to me! I'm not possessed by a demon, I won't accept your exorcism!"
The abbot strode to the front of the church. With a solemn expression, he looked around and said coldly, "I've been wondering from the beginning why the exorcism rituals in the monastery have been failing all this time. It turns out the problem lies with this policeman disguised as a monk!"
He disguised himself as a monk and infiltrated among us, deceiving us and God. That's why our exorcism failed—because God felt deceived!
We must perform this exorcism tonight to drive away this person who has been possessed by a demon!
The abbot's words immediately received the support of the monks, and under their watchful eyes, Malek was directly tied to the wooden plank in the center of the church.
Looking at Marek, who was still struggling and roaring, Constantine frowned slightly and hesitated before asking Lin Bei, "Hey, is he really alright? I didn't sense that he was possessed by a demon."
Lin Bei stood by with his arms crossed, watching without taking any action: "What's happening in this monastery is beyond your comprehension. He hasn't been possessed yet, but he's the perfect vessel. Even without this monastery, he would have been possessed by a demon sooner or later. The main event is coming up. He has to be possessed, otherwise the demon can't come to the human world."
Constantine looked at Lin Bei with a puzzled expression. He still didn't understand, but he didn't dare to ask any more questions.
Judging from Lin Bei's expression, he seemed to be looking forward to the demon descending upon this man named Marek.
Constantine shut his mouth and asked no more questions, quietly watching the exorcism ritual proceed.
Just like during the day, Marek was also stuffed with that blood-soaked unidentified object. He choked, and blood rushed into his esophagus and trachea. Marek coughed and struggled.
Unfortunately, Malek was no match for the monks. He was forcibly pressed onto a wooden board, and the abbot circled him, chanting incantations.
The abbot stopped and stared at Marek with anticipation.
But Marek did not change anything.
Because of coughing, Marek had no strength left and lay sprawled on the wooden board like a dead dog.
Time passed slowly, and the expectation on the abbot's face gradually faded.
The bald monk, who had been standing next to the abbot, was very perceptive and immediately asked, "Abbot, isn't he... also not the person we're looking for?"
The abbot's face instantly darkened. He glared angrily at Marek on the wooden board and gritted his teeth, saying, "This shouldn't be! According to the records, he should be the vessel... He was born in this very monastery..."
But the facts are clear: the summoning of the demon failed.
Marek is not a container.
The bald monk's eyes darted around, finally settling on the two strangers in the distance of the church. He leaned close to the abbot and whispered, "Perhaps the vessel has changed. One of those two who claim to be exorcists might be the vessel..."
The abbot clearly had no intention of giving up on summoning demons.
He took a deep breath to suppress his impatience: "You're right, throw this guy down the well."
With the abbot's order, Marek, who was barely breathing, was carried away like a dead dog on a wooden plank from below the platform to the depths of the monastery.
The other monks were sent back to their rooms by the abbot.
This includes Linbei and Constantine.
Once the area outside the room quieted down, Lin Bei stood up and gestured with his chin towards Constantine: "Come on, I'll take you to see a good show." (End of Chapter)
