Chapter 11 On the train
Chapter 11 On the train
Ivy didn't feel that he needed the sympathy of a child whose parents had both passed away and who had lived in his aunt's house for eleven years.
So he tried to change the subject: "You know what? I am actually a wizard from more than a hundred years ago."
Harry and Ron's eyes widened when they heard his words, but soon they smiled, perhaps taking the truth as a joke.
"That sounds really cool!" Ron exclaimed. "So why do you want to go to school with us? Is it to relive your school life?"
"That's the reason." Ivy nodded in agreement.
"What about your beard?" Harry looked a little malicious. "Since you are over a hundred years old..."
"To be exact, I'm one hundred and forty-four years old." Ivy continued to tell the truth. He liked to tell the truth. "Because of a terrible magical accident, I was sealed in a crystal and slept for more than a hundred years. Not only did my body not age, but it became much younger."
"Wow! That's so cool!" Ron seemed to like this topic very much. He might use Ivy's words in his next bragging. "What about magic? How is the magic of more than a hundred years ago different from that of today?"
"As far as the first-year textbooks are concerned, there isn't much difference." Ivy shrugged. "But the magical accident that caused me to be sealed for more than a hundred years was due to an ancient magic that was almost lost."
"Ancient magic!" Ron nodded, leaning forward as far as he could, twisting his buttocks uncomfortably in the seat, "What can this...ancient magic do?"
"In short, it's extremely powerful and difficult to control." Ivy began to describe the characteristics of ancient magic. "It can summon lightning, cause earthquakes, and throw incredibly large rocks around like feathers."
"Show us your skills, Ivy!" Ron said, "Let us see the ancient magic you mentioned!"
"That's not an easy thing... I got up too early this morning, so I didn't have breakfast... and performing ancient magic is a very physically demanding activity, so..." Ivy put on a mischievous smile.
"So, if we let you fill your stomach, will you show us your skills?" The clever Harry immediately understood the hidden meaning. Although he did not really believe in the ancient magic mentioned by Ivy, he had seen with his own eyes that Ivy's suitcase floated into the carriage with him. Therefore, he was quite willing to see other magic.
"That's right!" Ivy clapped his hands.
"But where are we going to get something to eat? I was too nervous to catch the train and forgot about breakfast... and I'm hungry." Harry lowered his head and looked at his stomach.
"I have sandwiches here!" Ron began to rummage through his luggage and took out a paper box from a compartment. There were four sandwiches in it. "My mother made them for me. They're made with canned corned beef... but she has five children to take care of, so they might be a little dry. If you don't mind..."
"Of course." Ivy reached out and took a piece, and Harry also took one.
"Hmm - quite delicious." Harry gave a fair evaluation. This was the first time he had shared food with others. Perhaps the novelty of it enhanced the flavor of the canned corned beef sandwich.
Sharing food makes it twice as delicious, and since all three of them were teenagers (except Ivy, who was 144 years old, but he looked much shorter than Ron, so they thought he was the same age), they were able to eat as fast as they could, and the four sandwiches were quickly devoured.
But someone's stomach was still growling. Coincidentally, it was almost noon, and the sound of wheels rolling over the ground was heard in the aisle.
A smiling woman pushed open the compartment door and asked, "Honey, would you like some snacks on the train?"
Harry jumped up. His pockets were now filled with gold Galleons and silver Sickles from the Gringotts vault, and he was eager to spend them.
"It's my treat this time!" Harry shouted happily. The snacks on the cart were all types he had never seen before, so he took a little of each and returned to his seat with a bunch of things.
Piles of snacks almost covered the table, but even so, Harry didn't spend a single gold Galleon. These snacks cost less than twelve silver Sickles.
"I haven't tried any snacks from the wizarding world yet!" In fact, Harry had hardly ever tried Muggle snacks, because his cousin Dudley would always snatch away everything from his hands.
Ron had no pressure to eat Harry's snacks, as he had just shared his sandwich with Harry. He was busy putting pumpkin pie into his mouth with his left hand and picking up a pot cake with his right hand.
"What's this?" Harry said, picking up a packet of Chocolate Frogs. "Are they real frogs?"
"Chocolate Frog, be careful when you open it, it might jump away." Ivy warned, "It looks almost the same as the Chocolate Frog from more than a hundred years ago. I just don't know if Honeydukes has added any other cards."
"Oh! It's Dumbledore." Harry had pulled out a card that had not existed more than a hundred years ago.
"You should know his name, right? After all, it's written on the acceptance letter." Although Ron didn't have much hope for Harry's lack of common sense about the wizarding world, he felt that Harry would at least know Dumbledore. "It is said that it is the largest Chocolate Frog card in stock, because people say he is the greatest wizard of the 20th century."
"Very good, a card that I have never seen before suddenly appeared." Ivy raised his eyebrows and took the card from Harry, still maintaining his character of an ancient magician.
"Hey! I thought you said you had seen Dumbledore!" Harry stuffed his snacks into his mouth and suddenly remembered something, so he asked, "Does he look like the picture?"
"Pretty close. Maybe even older." Ivy looked at the picture in his hand. Dumbledore in it had already left.
Ron stopped eating and looked at Ivy in surprise: "Why have you seen Dumbledore? Where have you seen him?"
"Hogwarts, of course. Where else could it be?"
"But they don't allow little wizards who are not yet of school age to enter Hogwarts!" Ron felt even more puzzled.
"Remember? Ivy is an old wizard who lived to be 144 years old!" Harry answered his question for Ivy.
"Indeed... it makes sense." Ron stopped dwelling on it and continued to eat the snacks on the table.
