Chapter 34 A Gift for Dumbledore
Chapter 34 A Gift for Dumbledore
In the solemn and quiet headmaster's office, Dumbledore and Weiss sat opposite each other, and a subtle tension hung in the air.
"Have you finished reading the book?" Dumbledore raised his eyebrows slightly, his eyes falling on Weiss through his half-moon glasses.
"No." Weiss shook his head, his answer concise and direct.
"What is it that you don't understand?" Dumbledore asked again.
"No." Weiss shook his head slightly, a faint smile on his lips, and he didn't seem to be in a hurry to explain.
Dumbledore's brow furrowed, his voice filled with a hint of reproach: "Then what are you doing here?" He sighed softly and continued, "As the headmaster, I am very busy."
Weiss's eyes fell on the plate piled high with sweets in front of Dumbledore and he teased, "What are you busy with? Busy enjoying your afternoon tea."
The corners of his mouth rose slightly, and he looked at Dumbledore jokingly: "Aren't you afraid of getting diabetes?"
"What is that?" Dumbledore asked curiously.
"A disease discovered by Muggle doctors..." Weiss began to explain, but as he spoke, he found that he had been led astray by Dumbledore, so he stopped in time and brought the subject back on track.
"I'm here to give you a present."
Weiss pulled an ordinary-looking journal from his pocket and gently placed it on the table between them.
"A gift? A diary?"
Dumbledore's eyes fell on the diary. He knew in his heart that Weiss's gift was extraordinary. This diary must have something special.
Dumbledore did not touch the diary directly with his hands, but carefully took out a uniquely shaped, 15-inch long wand from the inner pocket of his robes.
That is the Elder Wand, one of the Three Deathly Hallows and the most powerful wand in legend.
He gently placed the Elder Wand on the diary, muttered something, and cast some mysterious magic.
The diary slowly floated in the air, and with a flash of blue light, a figure gradually condensed and took shape in the air.
He was a young man with black hair, his eyes as deep as black gemstones, gleaming with a cold light. He had a high nose bridge, thin lips, a thin and handsome face, and he was wearing Slytherin robes.
However, at this moment his face was gloomy and his eyes were full of murderous intent, which made his originally handsome appearance look a little hideous.
"How dare you lie to me!!" the boy questioned Weiss angrily.
Weiss just shrugged and didn't respond.
The boy's anger grew more intense due to Weiss's indifference, as if it was about to burn Weiss to ashes.
"Long time no see, Tom." Dumbledore's voice sounded calmly and powerfully, making the boy tremble all over.
A hint of surprise flashed across his eyes, then was replaced by fear.
"Dumbledore!!" The boy, Tom, or Voldemort, had eyes full of fear, a terror that he himself was not aware of.
Dumbledore looked at Voldemort's youthful appearance and couldn't help but feel a sense of emotion. He sighed and said, "I didn't expect you to have created a Horcrux while still a student. If I had guided you well..."
"Stop being so hypocritical, Dumbledore. You've disliked me and been wary of me from the beginning."
Voldemort's roar echoed in the headmaster's office, his voice filled with anger and resentment, as if it could tear the air.
Dumbledore seemed unusually calm in the face of this anger, but the portraits on the wall could not remain silent. Their voices rose and fell, full of anger and condemnation.
"You are so stubborn!" the headmaster in a portrait shouted angrily.
"You are a disgrace to Hogwarts!!" the headmaster in another portrait also angrily accused.
"Destroy him quickly!" another portrait shows the principal saying anxiously.
"Oh, Merlin's beard, to commit murder at such a young age, unforgivable!"
A portrait of an old headmaster also joined in the scolding.
Facing the headmasters' scolding, Voldemort simply raised his chin slightly, his face defiant, showing no sign of regret. "Quiet, everyone," Dumbledore said with considerable effort, finally calming the portraits.
Dumbledore closed the diary, and Voldemort turned into a stream of light and returned to the diary, and the atmosphere in the office calmed down.
"How about this gift?" Weiss asked with some pride.
"Excellent," Dumbledore exclaimed. "Where did you find this? You should know that Voldemort attaches great importance to Horcruxes and hides them very secretly."
Weiss told Dumbledore about Flourish and Blotts.
"Lucius Malfoy." Dumbledore's expression became serious. "He was a Death Eater in the past. It is indeed possible that Voldemort gave the Horcrux to him for safekeeping. But why return the Horcrux to Hogwarts now?"
Dumbledore fell into deep thought, and for a moment he could not guess what Lucius Malfoy was thinking.
"We can ask Mr. Malfoy to come over and ask him in person," Weiss suggested.
"Mr. Malfoy is not an honest man." Dumbledore said with some concern.
"I have a way, but I need your cooperation, Principal." Weiss said, his voice full of confidence.
"No problem." Dumbledore agreed readily.
"You'll need the diary then."
Dumbledore shrugged. "I originally wanted to destroy this Horcrux as soon as possible, but waiting a few days won't hurt."
If it was a Horcrux created during Voldemort's heyday, Dumbledore would have destroyed it immediately. However, the diary was Voldemort's first Horcrux, created when he was sixteen or seventeen years old. Even at his advanced age, Dumbledore was confident he could keep it safe.
The two agreed on a time to meet on Quidditch match day, when the entire school's attention would be focused on the field, providing the perfect cover for Dumbledore and Weiss's plan.
Moreover, this year Draco became Slytherin's new Seeker, so it made sense for Dumbledore to invite Lucius to Hogwarts to watch Draco's first game.
In his office, Dumbledore wrote the invitation on parchment with his elegant quill. After finishing the letter, he blew on the ink gently, then carefully folded the letter and put it into an exquisite envelope.
He summoned an owl, which sat obediently on Dumbledore's arm. Dumbledore whispered to it, "Go, my friend, and deliver this letter safely to Malfoy Manor."
The owl picked up the envelope, spread its wide wings, flew through the window, and flew towards Malfoy Manor.
At Malfoy Manor, Lucius Malfoy had been feeling a pang of worry. Ever since the start of school, he'd been worried about the diary. He hadn't heard anything about anything unusual happening at Hogwarts, and that puzzled him.
Lucius could not determine whether the diary was brought back to Hogwarts by Weiss, or whether the diary did not have the power to purge Hogwarts as Voldemort described.
His wife, Narcissa Malfoy, noticed his uneasiness and asked with concern, "My dear, what happened? You have been absent-minded since we came back from Diagon Alley. Is there something wrong with the batch?"
Narcissa thought there had been a problem with the sale of the stolen Dark Magic items.
Lucius forced a smile. "You know, I had a conflict with Weasley in the bookstore, and he's watching me very closely now. Those things might cause trouble."
Narcissa believed her husband's story.
Just then, Dobby, the Malfoy family's house-elf, approached cautiously, his head bowed, not daring to meet their gazes. His voice trembled as he said, "Master, a letter from Hogwarts."
"Asshole, can't you see we are talking?" Narcissa scolded.
Dobby was shaking with fear.
Narcissa took the envelope from Dobby with a look of disgust and sprayed a lot of perfume on the envelope before opening it.
"It's from Dumbledore, inviting us to a Quidditch match."
Lucius said suspiciously, "He has never invited us before, why is it so sudden this time?"
Narcissa was delighted. "This is Draco's first game as Seeker. I don't want to miss it. It's a good opportunity for you to relax."
Lucius thought about it and finally agreed. He secretly planned in his mind:
[I need to personally confirm whether the diary was brought to Hogwarts. Why is there nothing unusual?]
