Chapter 65 I caught you
Sirius grabbed Pettigrew's collar and lifted him up: "Long time no see, Peter!" Every word came out from between his teeth. Sirius' face had turned purple and the veins on his forehead were bulging.

"Sirius?" Peter Pettigrew was in disbelief at first.

Then he quickly looked around, trying to find an opportunity to escape.

"Lupin? Dumbledore? Is this the headmaster's office?" After realizing where he was, Peter Pettigrew actually called for help from Lupin and Dumbledore: "Save me! Sirius has gone crazy!!"

"How dare you???" Sirius didn't expect Peter Pettigrew to turn the tables.

"You betrayed James!!" Sirius roared, his saliva spraying on Peter Pettigrew's face.

"It's you!!" The two people argued endlessly, and their voices echoed in the principal's office.

Weiss tossed a bottle of potion to Lupin: "Veritaserum."

Lupin pinched Peter Pettigrew's cheeks, forced him to open his mouth, and poured a whole bottle of Veritaserum into his mouth.

"What did you give me to drink???" Peter Pettigrew kept digging his throat, trying to spit out what he had drunk.

Then, his eyes began to lose focus little by little, and he slowly fell into a trance. His body gradually relaxed, and finally collapsed to the ground.

"Who is James and Lily's secret keeper?" Lupin couldn't wait to ask the truth he most wanted to know.

"It's me." Peter Pettigrew's voice was flat and indifferent, as if he was telling a story that had nothing to do with him. "That egomaniac Sirius thought he was infallible."

Sirius's guilt was beyond words, and he once again fell into deep self-blame.

Lupin finally felt relieved and asked, "Why did you betray us?"

"Because I'm afraid of... Voldemort." Even under the influence of Veritaserum, Peter Pettigrew still didn't dare to call him by his name. "He's so terrifying. Why would he entrust such a difficult task to me? I'm just a nobody. How could I possibly deal with the Dark Lord?"

"No one asked you to fight Voldemort, I just asked you to keep it a secret!" Sirius shook Peter Pettigrew's body hard.

Peter Pettigrew seemed very calm under the effect of the potion. "What if the Death Eaters find me and torture me? I can't stand their torture, so I had to tell the Dark Lord James and Lily's address. All this is Sirius' fault. If he hadn't been so smart, none of this would have happened."

Sirius and Lupin couldn't believe their ears. They never expected that the companion they had been with day and night would be such a coward.

Sirius burst into tears: "It's all my fault. If it weren't for me, James and Lily wouldn't have died."

Lupin looked at the scene with mixed feelings. He said to Peter Pettigrew in disappointment, "You coward!"

After the truth came to light, although Sirius successfully proved his innocence, he could not be happy.

A heavy sense of guilt washed over him like a surging tide, constantly battering his heart. His self-righteousness, the decision he once considered right, had now become a pain in his heart that could never be erased.

Because of his mistake, he had killed his best friend. This pain pierced his heart so deeply that he could hardly breathe.

In those dark moments, he even thought about dying to escape the pain and torture in his heart, as if only in this way could he be relieved.

Lupin stood quietly by, watching Sirius, who was deeply remorseful. His lips moved slightly, wanting to say something to comfort him, but he didn't know where to start. The words seemed to be stuck in his throat, and he couldn't speak.

He could only look at Sirius silently, hoping that he could walk out of this abyss of pain by himself. Suddenly he thought of something.

"Harry," Lupin suddenly said, breaking the oppressive silence, "Have you seen Harry? He looks exactly like James, except that his eyes... those eyes look so much like Lily's..."

Every time Lupin mentioned Harry, he would unconsciously reveal his love for Harry and his deep nostalgia for the past years. Perhaps it was also filled with the deepest longing for his deceased friend.

"Harry~ Harry~" Sirius murmured the name over and over again. This name was not just a title to him, it was his only light in the dark and boundless world.

As Lupin finished speaking, Sirius's eyes gradually changed. His originally dull pupils began to shine again. The name Harry was like a ray of sunshine in winter, penetrating the thick clouds and illuminating the corners of his heart that had not been touched for a long time.

"That's right," Lupin patted Sirius' shoulder, "you are Harry's godfather. Although James has left us, this responsibility now falls on your shoulders. You must assume the responsibility of being a father."

Lupin looked at Sirius's face, which was haggard due to self-blame, and his heart was full of pity. For Harry and the precious friendship between them, he knew that Sirius would definitely stand up again.

Because he is a brave and strong man, as long as he is willing, he will be able to walk out of this painful memory and embrace the light again.

"I'm going to find Harry..." Sirius jumped up from his seat. He couldn't wait to leave the headmaster's office. He wanted to see Harry so much that every second of waiting was torture for him.

Seeing this, Lupin hurried forward and grabbed his arm.

"There are wanted posters of you everywhere. If you go out like this, you will definitely be recognized. Not only will you be in danger, but you might also implicate Harry."

Lupin's words were not alarmist. Sirius's current situation was indeed very difficult. Once discovered, the consequences would be very dire.

"But I can't wait any longer, Lupin," Sirius' voice was filled with pleading, "I have to see Harry right away. He is too important to me."

"Don't worry, Blake. Now that Peter Pettigrew has been caught, your name will be cleared soon."

Dumbledore continued, "If you go out like this, it will only scare Harry. What we need is patience and let things develop in the right order."

Dumbledore's words were like a stabilizing force. He understood Sirius's inner anxiety very well, but he also knew that a momentary impulse would only bring greater trouble.
