"Mark," Lynn's voice broke the silence in the car, "We may need more resources to deal with this guy. His next move will definitely be bolder."

Mark smiled and said, "Inspector, I just hope that next time he shows up, he won't make me stay up all night again."

Lynn didn't answer, but a look of determination flashed in his eyes.

It was already dawn, and the atmosphere in the car was a bit dull. Mark yawned and rubbed his face, trying to dispel his fatigue. "Inspector, honestly, this kind of surveillance is really giving me a headache. We've been sitting here all night and haven't seen a single hair. It feels so meaningless."

Lynn leaned back in his chair, his gaze still calmly fixed on the window. He didn't respond immediately, but remained silent for a moment before slowly speaking, "Mark, investigating a case is never the exciting part you see in TV dramas. Most of the time, it's just like that: dull, tedious, and seemingly fruitless."

Mark was stunned for a moment, his tone filled with confusion. "But Inspector, we have to do something practical, right? Staring at the empty streets like this really makes me feel... a bit of a waste of time."

Lynn turned to look at him, a hint of complicated emotions in her eyes: "Mark, if I had to choose, I would rather you only experience this kind of 'boring' moment forever, rather than going into direct confrontation with armed bandits or even mutants like Spider-Man."

Mark looked at Lynn in astonishment, not knowing how to respond.

Lin En's voice was low but firm. "Every fight, every firefight, could mean injury or even sacrifice. You might think the thrill of hunting down criminals is rewarding, but you know what? Whenever I hear news of my men being injured or killed, my first reaction is to blame myself—should I have been more cautious? Shouldn't I have put them at risk?"

Mark opened his mouth, but all he could say was, "Inspector, I never thought you'd see things this way."

Lynn sighed softly and turned his gaze back to the window. "You're still young, Mark, and I understand your passion. But remember, no matter how much we want to pursue justice, it should never be based on unnecessary risks. Every minute of tedious squatting actually means we are reducing the risk of a head-on conflict. Believe me, it's worth it."

Mark lowered his head, lost in thought. He recalled the excitement he'd felt when he first started, believing that catching criminals should be a thrilling chase, not a long wait like this. But now, he finally understood Lynn's intentions and realized his own shallowness.

"Detective," Mark raised his head, a look of respect in his eyes, "I understand. Perhaps this kind of waiting is indeed boring, but it has its meaning. Thank you for reminding me, I will remember your words."

Lynn smiled faintly and patted Mark on the shoulder. "Just remember. Justice is not an impulsive adventure, but a long-term commitment."

The next night, Lynn and Mark sat in the car again, the neon lights of the street reflected in the car window. Mark munched on a cold burger and casually observed his surroundings. "Inspector, it's been another long night. But I won't complain this time. After all, you said it, this is just normal investigation life."

Lynn looked out the window, his eyes sharp and focused. "Don't let your guard down, Mark. Spider-Man has committed many crimes, and he probably doesn't think we'll find him so quickly. Be patient. At times like this, patience is our weapon."

As soon as he finished speaking, a high-speed figure flashed past the tall building across the street. Lin En was instantly alert and sat up straight: "Mark, look over there!"

Mark was stunned and looked in the direction Lin En pointed. He saw a figure in black and red clothes quickly climbing up the tall building, almost blending into the night.

"It's him!" Mark whispered, excitedly grabbing his flashlight and equipment. "Let's chase him!"

Lynn and Mark quickly got out of the car and ran towards the building. As Lynn ran, he gave instructions into the communicator: "Target spotted, Spider-Man has appeared, located in the high-rise buildings on Manhattan's East Side. All nearby police officers, provide immediate support!"

The two quickly climbed up the outer stairs of the building. When they reached the rooftop, the black and red figure was nimbly clinging to the edge of the rooftop, ready to leap to another building at any time.

"Stop! FBI!" Lynn shouted loudly and took out a flashlight to shine at the other party.

"Spider-Man" looked back without any intention of stopping. Instead, he jumped lightly, grabbed a hanging cable, and swung towards the building opposite like a spider.

"He's flying!" Mark stared in amazement, "This guy is not human at all!"

"Stop talking nonsense and chase him!" Lin En didn't hesitate. He quickly climbed over the railing of the rooftop and continued to chase along the pipes on the side of the building.

The two chased after him, but Spider-Man was incredibly fast. He shuttled back and forth between buildings, and from time to time he would use his slimy web to block some of the pursuit routes. Lynn and Mark tried hard to bypass the obstacles, but soon found that the distance between them was getting farther and farther.

Finally, Spider-Man made an astonishing leap and disappeared into the shadow of a distant building. Lynn stood on the edge of the rooftop, panting heavily, looking in the direction where he disappeared, his brow furrowed.

Mark caught up from behind, bent over and gasping for breath: "Inspector... this guy... is incredible... we can't catch up with him at all!"

Lynn took a deep breath, calmed his breathing, and turned to look at Mark. "His abilities are indeed outstanding, but this also shows that he is not just an ordinary criminal. He may be a mutant, or he may have mastered high-tech equipment."

"So what should we do next?" Mark wiped the sweat from his forehead. "If we keep chasing like this, it's like a cat chasing a mouse."

Lin En pondered for a moment and said calmly, "We can't just rely on physical strength to chase him. His movements are between these tall buildings, which means he is very familiar with the terrain. Next, we need to change our strategy, analyze his modus operandi and movement paths, and find his fixed hiding place."

Back at the police station, Lynn and Mark sat in an office, before them a pile of Spider-Man's recent crime reports and theft lists. Lynn flipped through the files, his brow furrowed. "Mark, we have to think differently. This guy's behavior is unusual; he's clearly not after ordinary property. We need to figure out what he's after."

Mark nodded. "Indeed, the things he stole were very diverse, but they didn't seem to have any obvious connection. Jewelry, expensive watches, some high-end electronics...what do these things have in common?"

Lynn pondered for a moment, then circled some items on a list. "No, Mark. His targets are not unrelated. Look at these. The jewelry was just an early cover. The focus of his recent operations has been electronics—chips, advanced computer hardware, and even some high-tech equipment in certain laboratories."

Mark was stunned for a moment. "So, he's actually collecting some kind of electronic technology?" "Very likely." Lynn nodded. "He's not an ordinary thief, nor is he a simple mutant. Perhaps he has a greater motive, or even works for a certain force."

The two immediately launched an investigation, starting with the stolen electronic products and visiting the heads of several stolen stores and laboratories.

In a high-tech lab that was robbed, Lynn spoke with the supervisor: "What was stolen from this lab? Is there any particularly important or exclusive technology?"

The supervisor frowned as he recalled, "A batch of high-performance chips and control modules used for our experiments were stolen. These were custom-made items with very narrow applications, and ordinary people wouldn't be able to use them at all."

"Then what can they do?" Lynn continued to ask.

"It is mainly used for the development of automation systems, such as high-end equipment like drone control and remote monitoring systems," the supervisor replied.

After leaving the lab, Mark pondered: "Inspector, what does he want these high-performance chips for? Is he going to make some device?"

"It's very likely." Lin En nodded. "And he knew what he wanted. This wasn't a random theft. Next, we need to find out the market demand for these devices and see if there are people closely connected to these technologies."

The two then visited several electronics stores that had been robbed and found a similar pattern: the stolen items were not ordinary consumer electronics, but high-end technological equipment, such as industrial circuit boards, experimental-grade sensors, and some experimental augmented reality glasses.

Mark sorted through his notes, a little puzzled: "Inspector, if these things were assembled, what kind of device would it be?"

Lynn narrowed his eyes and whispered, "It could be some highly customized technological device, or even a weapon. We must now assume that he is not just a thief, but someone on a special mission."

"So what do we do next?" Mark asked.

"Contact the manufacturers of these devices and investigate their uses. At the same time, we need to track the flow of these devices to see if there's similar demand in the market," Lynn said coldly. "As long as we can find the potential ultimate use of these devices, we'll be one step closer to catching Spider-Man."

After several days of intense investigation, Lynn and Mark finally gathered enough information. In a dimly lit conference room, the two stood in front of a whiteboard, and Lynn circled the uses of some key equipment with a marker.

"Mark, let's sort this out." Lynn pointed to several devices on the whiteboard. "These are high-performance chips, circuit boards, sensors, and fuel mixing devices. Can you tell what they have in common?"

Mark scratched his head and thought for a moment before saying, "These things are all high-end technological equipment, many of which are laboratory-grade and cannot be used by ordinary people. What they have in common is... they require precise assembly?"

"That's right." Lynn nodded and drew another arrow on the whiteboard. "Also, the clues we just received from the manufacturer indicate that these devices can be used for a very specific purpose - to manufacture small rockets."

Mark's eyes widened. "A small rocket? Inspector, are you saying Spider-Man might be building a rocket? Is he going to space or something?"

Lin En didn't answer, but continued his analysis: "The combination of these devices can support a medium-sized rocket launch system. It's not necessarily for space flight, but more likely a highly maneuverable, high-tech device. For example, it can be used for long-range reconnaissance, or... some form of weapon."

Mark pondered for a moment, then suddenly realized, "So, he might not be acting alone. He has a team behind him, or even an organization. Their goal is probably to build a rocket powerful enough to carry out some unconventional activities."

Lin En nodded. "That's my guess. If Spider-Man really is working for a certain force, then what we're facing now isn't just a high-tech thief, but a potential threat."

Mark frowned. "But the question is, why do they need a Spider-Man? To steal the equipment in his own way, instead of purchasing it directly or through other channels?"

"Because obtaining these devices is illegal," Lynn explained calmly, "Many devices are prohibited from export or require special permits. Spider-Man's abilities allow them to circumvent these restrictions and complete their missions quietly."

Mark took a deep breath and said, "Inspector, this matter is more complicated than we thought. We must quickly identify his next target and not let this matter continue to develop."

"That's right." Lynn stood up straight, his eyes determined. "Next, we need to find out the final storage location of these devices and the possible range of Spider-Man's activities. As long as we find their gathering point, we can completely dismantle this plan."

Lynn and Mark investigated everywhere for several days but still could not find any solid clues. They traced the flow of several stolen devices and tried to contact experts to understand the potential use of small rockets, but all the speculations seemed too complicated and they seemed to be missing a key clue.

"Inspector," Mark leaned back in his office chair, rubbing his temples, his tone filled with frustration, "Are we overthinking this? These devices can indeed make rockets, but we can't figure out why Spider-Man would use them. Does he want to launch something, or does he have another purpose?"

Lin En's face was gloomy, and a hint of doubt flashed in his eyes. "Perhaps we have indeed overlooked some key points. Mark, organize the list of all equipment and we will review it again."

"I understand." Mark nodded, but he could also feel that the two seemed to be in a stalemate.

That night, Lynn returned home exhausted. As soon as he opened the door, he saw his sister Gwen on the sofa, flipping through a brochure with an excited look on her face.

"Brother, you're back!" Gwen looked up at Lynn and said cheerfully, "Did you know there's a university student space exhibition downtown right now? It's really cool! There are all kinds of spacecraft models, and even some small rocket launchers designed by students themselves."

As Lin En took off his coat, he casually asked, "College Student Space Exhibition? Small rocket launcher?"

"Yeah!" Gwen nodded and handed the brochure to Lin En. "They're small rockets made by some university student teams. They're not as good as real aerospace equipment, but I heard the technology is very advanced. Some teams have even launched their own probes on simulated orbits." (End of this chapter)
