Chapter 21: Excellent hunters often appear as prey
This lieutenant from Farlan might never have imagined that the lieutenant he looked down upon was actually a true aristocrat.
But this was just as Ryan had guessed before. These damn Farlan people would indeed be relatively kind to him when he was dressed in a pilot's uniform - a fake noble lieutenant.
Ryan was also very sensible. He deliberately frowned, and his Adam's apple slid up and down, making a slightly loud gurgling sound.
He was pretending to be very conflicted.
Seeing this, the Farlan lieutenant immediately felt that his persuasion had taken effect. He immediately pursued the enemy: "I know you are worried about this, but please believe me, we Farlans never break our promises."
Ryan still didn't say anything, but Wolfe beside him couldn't sit still anymore.
The boy kicked Lieutenant Farlan in the back of the knee. With a dull thud, the lieutenant immediately knelt in the middle of the room.
However, Ryan immediately raised his hand with a fist. Seeing this, McIver hurriedly stopped Wolfe.
Only after Wolfe was dragged away did Ryan think of speaking.
He put the pistol back into its holster—without closing the cap, but holding it with his hand—and took two steps forward, crouching down so that he and Lieutenant Farlane were face to face, eye to eye.
He thought that the current situation was much better than he had imagined.
At the beginning, Ryan actually just wanted to capture a Farlan soldier as a hostage, like a bank robber, and ask the Farlans to guarantee his safety.
But now, he has caught an officer.
This directly turned him from being passive to being active.
And now, there is only one thing that matters.
——How can we get Lieutenant Farlan to speak up and have the airship land in front of the 502nd Battalion camp?
"It's not that I don't trust you, Lieutenant."
Ryan looked at the lieutenant in front of him, his tone calm, but with a hint of anxiety.
"The problem now is that I can't let myself get away alone."
As he said this, he turned his head and pointed with his chin at McIver who was standing guard at the door.
This immediately made Lieutenant Farlan look embarrassed.
He looked up at McIver, then at Ryan and the observer lieutenant, and it took him a long time to utter a word.
"You... want me to send them to the rear as well?"
"That's right. I can't just abandon my brothers and run away, can I?" Ryan said as a matter of course, "I came here on vacation to catch up with them, but you killed dozens of my brothers, and now they are the only ones left."
Lieutenant Farlan was a little anxious. He said in a complicated tone, "But you know, the treaty you signed with us states that only nobles and military officers can enjoy preferential treatment in Farlan!"
"I don't care about that."
Ryan stood up suddenly, but his eyes went dark and he swayed several times before he could steady himself.
McIver helped him up, but was pushed away by Ryan.
"If you can't even protect a few of my men, what's the point of me surrendering?"
Pulling out his pistol again, Ryan pointed it at Lieutenant Farlan who was kneeling on the ground, and with a slight force of his thumb, he pulled down the hammer.
"Or, I can kill you here and then find another way to contact the rear."
He tried to make his words as short and quick as possible, inadvertently putting pressure on Lieutenant Farlan.
The index finger on the trigger exerted a little force, and although the sound of metal friction was small and weak, it still reached the ears of Lieutenant Farlan.
"Wait! No problem! I agree to your request!"
He squeezed his eyes shut and jerked his head to the side, not even daring to look at Ryan. He began to shout, a stark contrast to the indifference he'd shown when Ryan pointed a gun at him. "But you have to let me contact my people!" he continued. "Our radio is in the square, two hundred meters away. I can use it to contact our airship fleet. They can be here in twenty minutes!"
"What do we need an airship force for?"
Ryan immediately asked back, but he was already relieved.
His purpose was achieved.
His behavior made Lieutenant Farlan believe that Ryan was an uneducated and stupid nobleman.
"I can let them go, as long as you are willing to surrender!"
Lieutenant Farlan shouted, "As long as you are willing to surrender, I can send an airship fleet to pick you up. After they leave, they will drop your people off in a place where there is no fighting, so they can escape..."
Ryan continued to pretend to be distrustful and kicked the lieutenant, knocking him to the ground. "Would you Farlanes do such a thing?"
But Ryan and everyone present immediately heard something that they found unbelievable.
Lieutenant Farlan shouted, "You can see them being released with your own eyes! You're an officer! You know that! Even if you surrender, we will still meet your reasonable demands! Brother, I don't have any other ideas, I just want to get some military credit!"
"Who the hell is your buddy?"
Ryan added another kick.
But his tone immediately changed 180 degrees: "Are you serious?"
"Really, more real than your gold mark!"
"What should we do?" Ryan put away his pistol and pulled Lieutenant Farlan up from the ground.
Lieutenant Farlan: "Just fire a few shots! My men will come! And then I'll talk to them!"
Ryan looked at McIver, and then six gunshots spread throughout the camp.
In the distance, the Farlan army rushed over immediately after hearing the gunshots, but before they could enter the bunker to prepare for battle, they heard the call of the Farlan lieutenant just now.
"Is he saying what he just said?" Ryan pointed his gun at the back of Lieutenant Farlan's head and turned to ask McIver.
"No problem, it's all the same," McIver said.
A few minutes later, the Farlans brought a radio and, in front of Ryan, contacted the airship fleet that was searching the ground in the open space in front of the command post.
"Can you trust us now?"
After everything was settled, Lieutenant Farlan breathed a sigh of relief and asked Ryan who was still behind him.
"Okay."
Ryan removed the magazine from his pistol, pulled the slide, and unloaded the last bullet: "Everyone, you heard what the lieutenant said, disarm!"
Without any questioning, everyone turned the paddle on the bolt and put the rifle on safety.
McIver immediately took over Ryan's job, pushing Lieutenant Farlan from behind, stumbling down the stairs, and taking him out of the command post.
Wolfe and other non-commissioned officers also rushed forward, holding their rifles in both hands, pretending to surrender, and appeared in front of the group of Farlan soldiers downstairs.
Ryan followed them down the stairs.
And just as he was about to reach the first floor, at the end of the corridor on one side, which was the entrance to the tunnel.
A familiar head popped out.
