The real life of an American police officer: Winning over others with virtue
Chapter 63 Redistribution
Chapter 63 Redistribution
"Open the door!" came the voice from the projector.
Upon arriving here, everyone in the office adopted a serious expression.
Bang bang bang!
When the boss opened the door, Eric decisively kicked him away, and the black man inside suddenly opened fire, the atmosphere in the air reached its peak.
The next second, Eric decisively picked up his shotgun and fired continuously while cutting corners and moving sideways, which silenced everyone.
Five shots fired in quick succession.
Inspector Grey and Daves didn't have any thoughts for the time being, but the SWAT team, who had been standing with their arms crossed, were a bit agitated.
Rafe raised an eyebrow, turned around and whispered to the members of his team who were discussing something.
"How about it?"
One of the team members, a very muscular man, glanced at the projection screen and whispered.
"His firing rate is even faster than mine. If he can maintain such a high firing rate while also knowing the enemy's position inside, that's insane."
There might be such a skilled person, but I think it's unlikely given his position as a police officer.
"Never mind, I don't know either. After all, his firing rate is so fast; he must have practiced a lot."
Rafe nodded, agreeing with his subordinates.
The time required for a person to perceive external information, process it in the brain, and issue instructions to the motor organs to execute actions.
It is the human reaction time.
Due to limitations imposed by individual physiological and psychological factors, the human body's reaction speed to stimuli is finite.
Under normal conditions, the average person's simple reaction time (such as a quick reaction to light or sound) is approximately 0.1 to 0.5 seconds, while the reaction time for complex reactions (requiring judgment or action selection, such as obstacle avoidance while driving) is approximately 0.5 to 1 second or longer.
If we add the reaction time required for complex judgments and understanding, it averages 3 to 5 seconds.
This difference in individual neural conduction efficiency forms the biological basis for the differentiation of victory and defeat in competitive situations.
Therefore, every individual is different, and this is the natural difference between people, as well as the distinction between strength and weakness.
Simply put, it's a matter of talent. A master is definitely a chosen one, possessing greater talent than ordinary people.
Rafe thought about it and realized that even he couldn't achieve such a fast firing rate as shown in the video.
In comparison, it's like the officer fired three shots while he only fired one – the difference is too great.
"Who is this guy?" Rafe wondered to himself as he watched the video clip playing on repeat.
But before he could think about it further, the voice next to him interrupted his thoughts.
"pause."
"Yes, sir."
It was Inspector Grey, dressed in a black business suit, her face calm. But the fact that she was a precinct chief at the age of thirty-two indicated that this woman was no ordinary person.
She turned to look at Rafe: "Captain Rafe, what are your thoughts?"
Rafe glanced at the paused video again: "I believe what that officer said."
He paused for a moment as he spoke:
"Let's put it this way, at that rate of fire, it's really difficult to see the suspect inside at the same time; we can't do it. So, in my personal opinion, I think the officer accidentally shot the suspect in the head during the counterattack."
"So, the headshot might not have been Officer Eric's intention?"
Inspector Grey nodded and looked at Robert from the West Canyon Police Department's Internal Affairs Division.
Robert said calmly, "I will take Captain Rafe's opinion into consideration."
"Let's leave it at that for now."
"I've made up my mind," Inspector Grey said, looking at the officer in charge of playing the recording.
"Make a copy of this video and send it to me."
The officer in charge of playing the video replied, "Yes, sir!"
Inspector Grey glanced at the people present, then slowly walked away, leaving the group of silent men behind.
Daves also looked at Robert, and after exchanging a glance, they left together.
The SWAT team was left standing there, looking at each other in bewilderment. "."
Eric was unaware of the discussions about him on the site; he had simply taken a good look at Annie's behavior that day.
She was given four out of five points.
He's about to take a vacation, and Annie, this rookie, will most likely be reassigned to another veteran.
Consider it a gift from his former training instructor before he took his leave.
Eric casually put the evaluation form in his pocket, intending to hand it to Daves later.
Just as he put it away, he heard a noise.
I subconsciously looked towards the door.
Daves appeared at the doorway, and Daves' expression revealed nothing to him.
“Come with me,” Daves said, as always.
Eric obediently got up and followed Daves into his office.
Watching Daves sit in the executive chair inside the desk, I stood in front of the desk without thinking.
"Are you planning to find a lawyer yourself, or have the union representative appoint one for you?" Daves asked Eric.
"lawyer?"
Eric's heart skipped a beat. He naturally knew why he needed a lawyer: he was now considered a suspect and needed a defense attorney to prepare his statement.
He even knew what the next step was after finding a lawyer: to answer questions from union representatives.
The main reason is that the union representatives wanted to know whether Eric's actions were legal before letting Eric know the amount of his insurance payout.
This money will allow him to cover the civil damages.
He's the one who damaged the door of the Sunshine Motel, so naturally he needs to compensate for it.
Once all of that is done, there's only one last step left.
That's when the Los Angeles Police Department's Internal Affairs Division and the District Attorney stepped in to investigate the truth of the matter.
This step is crucial; it determines whether he can continue to stay in the police station.
Of course, he will only be summoned after he has rested properly.
Eric recalled the first time he shot a suspect. As he took more and more leave due to major events, many steps were omitted. Now he had to go through the process all over again.
“I accept the union’s designation,” Eric replied.
“OK!” Daves nodded, took out a document and a pen, and pushed them toward Eric.
"It's best not to go anywhere for the time being and wait for the police to summon you again. I don't need to say more about that, right?"
Eric nodded, signed his name on the document, and asked.
"How long will it take to summon me, sir?"
Having gone through numerous reviews, he was naturally very familiar with the relevant procedures. He could tell with his eyes closed what the next step would be, what he would go through, and what he would need to say to make his actions legal.
"Tomorrow afternoon at the latest," Daves said, taking the documents and looking at Eric.
"Before that, after you finish dealing with the rest of your business, go back and get some rest."
"OK!"
Eric had an idea, so he took his instructor evaluation form out of his pocket and placed it on Daves's desk.
"So what should we do with Annie?"
Daves glanced at the evaluation form and said calmly:
“I will assign her another training instructor.”
Dear leaders and godfathers, I'm a little feverish, so please allow me to ramble a bit.
Please continue reading, just hang in there a little longer, there will be a lot of updates later.
