Chapter 198 Crisis
Chapter 198 Crisis
Saying goodbye to the ghosts, Dui returns to the Path of the Dead, emerging from the Dark Gate on the north side of the White Mountains.
Feeling the sunshine and fresh air, Dui couldn't help but take a deep breath.
Although the journey to the deceased was slightly bumpy, it went relatively smoothly.
However, the atmosphere of the Path of the Dead was too oppressive and terrifying, with skeletons and bones everywhere, making it a complete death zone.
If someone were timid, they would probably be terrified.
Not to mention those ghosts, they're practically a bug in the system; physical attacks are completely ineffective against them, and magical attacks, while having an effect, are useless against them.
Even though they are not dark evil spirits, the Guardian Charm and the Light of Eyarendil can only drive them away, but cannot cause them fatal damage.
He could barely handle a few hundred or a thousand ghosts, but there were hundreds of thousands of ghosts there!
Dui had already prepared to immediately Apparate away from the Path of the Dead if he failed to persuade the ghosts.
Because of the curse of Isildur, the souls of these mountain people remain in the mountains after death. If they were not summoned and unable to leave, this army of ghosts alone could be invincible in the Middle Continent.
After leaving the Path of the Dead, Dui did not use Apparition, but instead mounted his flying broom and flew towards Edoras, the capital of Rohan.
Edoras is also located near the White Mountains, not far from the Black Barbarian Shrine.
Dui planned to stop by there to check in and see if he could run into Gandalf.
But just as Dui was about to set off, the sky suddenly darkened.
Dui looked up at the sky in surprise and found it covered with dark clouds.
The next second, a thick bolt of lightning struck down from the clouds.
The target is Dui.
Lightning moves so fast that it's almost impossible for ordinary people to react.
Fortunately, Dui was wearing an invisible crown of wisdom, which allowed his brain to work at an accelerated pace in an instant, reacting in a fraction of a second.
Just as the lightning was about to strike him, Dui Apparated and disappeared from his flying broom.
The broom that couldn't be taken with them was blasted into pieces by lightning.
The next second, Dui appeared on the hillside not far away.
He stared at the lightning bolt that appeared out of nowhere, his expression one of surprise and uncertainty.
Coincidence? Absolutely impossible!
There was definitely someone manipulating that lightning bolt!
But who exactly was attacking him, and why? Dui was caught in a cycle of speculation.
But before he could think any further, another bolt of lightning struck down.
However, this time the lightning didn't strike Dui, but hit the mountaintop directly, causing a huge tremor.
The White Mountains got their name from the glaciers and snow that remain there year-round at their highest points.
As lightning struck the mountaintop, the glacier cracked, and the entire mountain trembled.
An unprecedented and terrifying avalanche erupted from the mountaintop, sweeping down the mountainside with overwhelming force.
Dui took a cold breath and immediately used Apparition to leave.
When they reappeared, they were hundreds of kilometers away in the mountains.
Apparition is, after all, a short-to-medium range teleportation spell, and this is already the limit of his current teleportation distance.
"They probably can't catch me now, right?" Dui muttered to himself.
But the next second, another bolt of lightning struck down from the sky.
"Super Armor Protects You!" Dui raised his staff and unleashed his strongest defense.
A dazzling white light shot out from the tip of the staff, transforming into a solid magical barrier that enveloped him.
The lightning bolt, as thick as a bucket, struck the magic barrier instantly, unleashing an incredibly dazzling light and a deafening roar.
Lightning flashed rapidly across the magic barrier, crackling incessantly, and the air was filled with the smell of ozone.
The magical barrier was constantly corroded and opened by the scorching lightning, but Dui quickly repaired it with his magic.
Finally, when the lightning subsided, Dui, panting heavily, put down his staff, and the magical barrier finally collapsed completely.
Only the area previously covered by the magical barrier remained intact, while the surrounding area of several hundred meters had been reduced to scorched earth.
Dui did not use Apparition again, but looked up at the sky and shouted coldly:
“Saruman, I know it’s you! Why did you attack me? Aren’t you afraid that Gandalf and Lady Galadriel will find out?”
There was still no response from the surrounding area.
"Saruman, do you think I have no way to respond?"
As he spoke, he took out the True Knowledge Crystal from his spatial bag and directly located Saruman's position.
The figure of Osankta appeared instantly inside the True Knowledge Sphere.
It was a strangely shaped tower made up of four huge, multifaceted stone pillars connected together. The top was divided into split peaks, sharp as spearheads. There was a narrow platform in the middle of the stone pillars, and many mysterious runes were carved on the polished ground.
Saruman stood on the platform at the top of Osankta, holding a staff in one hand and a crystal of true knowledge in the other.
"Who?" Saruman seemed to sense something and roared angrily at the sky.
Then, in the next second, the perspective within the Dui Knowledge Crystal shifted to the viewpoint between the two Knowledge Crystals. Saruman's face appeared on the Knowledge Crystal; he feigned surprise, frowning as he questioned, "It's you, that brat who follows Gandalf around. Why are you spying on me?"
Dui was so angry at Saruman's shameless act of turning the tables that he almost laughed.
He sneered, "Saruman, an honest man doesn't do things in secret. I seem to have no grudge against you, so why did you ambush me?"
Saruman vehemently denied it, letting out a disdainful snort. "Nonsense! Why would I attack an unknown nobody like you? Besides, I'm right here in Eisengard. How could I attack someone thousands of miles away?"
"You brat, you used the Crystal of Knowledge to spy on and offend me, and now you're falsely accusing me of trying to attack you. Even Gandalf can't stop me from teaching you a lesson, you unreasonable brat!"
As he spoke, his eyes suddenly became extremely sharp and penetrating, piercing through the True Knowledge Crystal and landing on Dui.
"Let me see what secrets you have that make you dare to be on par with us and call yourself the Black-Robed Wizard?"
Dui instantly felt a powerful spiritual force emanating from the True Knowledge Crystal, violently attempting to invade his brain and probe his memories.
If it succeeds, Dui will not only have all his secrets plundered, but he will also likely be turned into an idiot.
Enraged, Dui fought against the spiritual force with all his might while quickly pulling out the Starlight Bottle.
The dazzling light of Eyarendil blinded all vision. Saruman, who was opposite the Crystal of Truth, was caught off guard. His eyes, which had been trying to peer into Dui's memories, were instantly blinded by the light, and tears streamed down his face.
"Soul-stealing spell!" Dui cast a spell on Saruman inside the True Knowledge Crystal with a backhand.
When two True Knowledge Crystals are connected, they can not only see each other, but also communicate with each other spiritually.
This means that, to some extent, power can be transmitted using the True Knowledge Crystal.
The next second, Dui instantly sensed Saruman's thoughts and memories through the True Knowledge Crystal.
As a Maiar, Saruman possessed immense spiritual power, making Dui seem like a mountain compared to a rock; it was impossible for Dui to shake his memories.
But perhaps due to Saruman's arrogance, or perhaps because he was blinded by Eyarendil's light, he was caught off guard and Dui successfully stole a small portion of his memories.
And it just so happens to be a fragment of his memory of plotting with Sauron.
Saruman reacted instantly, his immense mental power forming a solid barrier that forcefully repelled Dui's mental probe.
Temporarily blind, he was like an angry lion, filled with fear, rage, and unease.
"Duir! I want you dead!!!"
Dui let out a muffled groan, feeling rather unpleasant as his senses were jolted back to reality, his head still spinning.
He immediately severed the connection with the True Knowledge Crystal, stuffed it and the Light of Eyarendil into his pocket, and swiftly used Apparition.
He needed to inform Gandalf, Lady Galadriel, and the others as soon as possible that Saruman had already suspected him of being the one being suspected.
Saruman clearly didn't want to let him off so easily.
As Dui Phantom teleported to the next location, a bolt of lightning struck down instantly.
The lightning was so fast, it seemed to have anticipated his arrival and was waiting there long ago.
Dui's hair stood on end instantly. Sensing extreme danger, he had no time to use Apparition again.
"Thunderous Explosion!" Dui unleashed an attack on the lightning.
A dazzling red light shot straight up and collided with the lightning.
At the point of impact, light burst forth, so bright it was blinding. Then came a deafening explosion as lightning shattered, transforming into countless streams of electricity that wreaked havoc in all directions.
The immense impact instantly sent Dui flying, crashing heavily several meters away.
Dui let out a muffled groan, his face pale, and several gashes appeared on his body from the blast of electricity.
Without saying a word, he pulled out a bottle of Ente beverage and gulped it down in one go.
The areas on the body damaged by the electric current were quickly repaired and healed, and the complexion regained its rosy hue.
As another bolt of lightning struck down from the sky, Dui immediately used Apparition to leave without saying a word.
When he reappeared hundreds of kilometers away, another bolt of lightning struck him as if it had been foreseen.
However, this time Dui was prepared. The moment he appeared, he cast a barrier spell on the sky and then used the few seconds of delay to Apparate away again.
Upon seeing it again, Dui immediately cast a defensive spell.
To his surprise, there was no lightning attack this time.
Instead of feeling relieved by this outcome, Dui became even more vigilant and uneasy.
He didn't think Saruman would give up so easily.
Sure enough, his expression changed drastically the next second.
Because he discovered he could no longer Apparate!
"Stop struggling. Your every move is within my expectations. This place has been enchanted, and your teleportation magic is useless here!"
Saruman appeared from afar, riding a tall white dire wolf, a cunning sneer flashing in his deep, sharp eyes.
"Stop resisting, 'Black-Robed Wizard,' I don't want to kill you yet, so just come with me!"
