Doomsday America

Chapter 30 covers 4 acres

Chapter 30 covers 140,000 acres

Seeing Gavin eating with gusto, Eugene quickly called out to Doris.

"Hey beautiful, could I have a plate? I was so scared I almost peed my pants, I'm just waiting to get some nourishment!"

"Oh? Sorry, I'll get it to you right away!"

Doris was startled by Eugene and quickly handed the remaining plates to everyone.

Eugene rushed to grab the plate, but Madison slapped his hand hard.

Madison rolled his eyes and said to Eugene.

"Dude, fine, we don't need to pray before meals, but at least show some manners!"

"Prayer? To hell with prayer!"

Eugene curled his lip in disdain.

"From now on, I will only thank God that I didn't turn into a zombie. As for prayer, do you expect me to pray to a shitty apocalypse?"

"How should I pray to thank God that He turned all my relatives into zombies and threw my future life down the toilet and turned it into a pile of shit? Don't eat the pickled radish!"

As Eugene cursed, he took the plate and spoon and clattered them together.

When Doris handed the plate to William, he stared blankly at the ground and didn't reach out to take it.

"Hey... police, your... your plate."

Doris nervously pursed her lips and then pushed the plate further towards him.

William then looked up in surprise, slowly took the plate and spoon, and continued to stare blankly at the camping blanket.

Noticing William's appearance, Eugene scoffed and casually grabbed a few pancakes, tossing them onto William's plate.

"That brat, give our little William some stew to shut him up, so he won't start crying and screaming again!"

Eugene called out to Winnie again, and Winnie rolled her eyes at him in response.

"I don't want another little brother unless he can help me with my homework, but unfortunately I don't have to do homework anymore!"

Well, even a smart kid like Winnie still hates homework.

Upon hearing Winnie's words, Eugene paused slightly and asked Winnie suspiciously.

"Homework? You're so young and you're already doing homework? I never had homework when I was in middle school!"

"Come on, Eugene, you must have gone to a public school that was full of gangsters and prostitutes."

Madison joked, casually coated the tortilla with broth, and stuffed it into his mouth in one bite.

Hearing Madison's words, Eugene raised his beer noncommittally and held it out to Madison, saying...

"Public or private, they're all worthless now. Cheers to those schools that have disappeared, and to the fact that I no longer have to worry about my son's grades!"

"What? You have a son?"

Madison asked in surprise, since Eugene had only mentioned his sister and nephew before.

When Madison asked him a question, Eugene glanced at Doris, shook his head and smiled.

"I'm talking about my future son. As for now, the woman who can give me a son hasn't appeared yet. Besides, I actually prefer a daughter. Cheers!"

As soon as he finished speaking, their bottles clinked together, and they began gulping down their drinks.

Madison downed the entire bottle of beer in one go and casually put the bottle aside.

As Eugene handed Madison a new beer, he asked Madison,
"And you, Old Black, are you married?"

"Of course, and I have six children, four sons and two daughters."

"Fuck, that's really early and fast! You've got a great physique, no wonder you're so big!"

Eugene was startled and couldn't help but sigh. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he fell completely silent.

Beside Eugene, William, who looked dejected, suddenly raised his head and asked a question.

"Where are your wife and children, Madison, they..."

"Enough, William, don't make me kick you while I'm eating meat!"

Eugene quickly interrupted William.

As for Madison, he was taken aback by what William said, then took a deep breath and spoke to Eugene.

"Alright, redhead, even if the little cop doesn't say anything, it won't change the fact that I'm currently helpless." "My wife and kids are in Chicago. How do you think I'm supposed to find them? Hold up a crucifix, sing Hallelujah, and then, under God's protection, floor the gas pedal and drive over a thousand kilometers?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Madison shrugged dejectedly.

Not far away, Doris and Winnie, who had initially been somewhat interested, also remembered their families and became depressed along with Madison.

The morale that had just been boosted by Eugene and the other man's survival quickly began to decline. The camping blanket seemed to be shrouded in a low-pressure atmosphere, which made Gavin unable to help but look up.

As he swallowed the piece of meat in his mouth, Gavin raised his beer and began to speak.

"This toast is to the road ahead. I hope it will be easier, and when we get back to my home, we'll have something to look forward to!"

"Is it?"

Upon hearing Gavin speak, Eugene immediately raised his bottle and clinked it against Gavin's, asking, "..."

"Speaking of which, quarterback, I really don't know where we're going next. It seems you already have a goal in mind."

"Go to my farm."

Gavin gave a brief response.

Upon hearing this, Eugene clapped his hands.

"Wuhu, I've never been a fan of yours, so I really didn't know that a big star and tycoon like you actually runs a farm in private."

At this point, Eugene looked Gavin up and down.

Even though Gavin was only wearing a dark blue tracksuit, you could still see obvious muscle mass in his bent upper arms.

"You and Madison are definitely built like cowboys, you might even be able to ram a cow to the ground. But is your place really worth all this trouble for us to drive all that way over there?"

Eugene pointed to the surrounding dry grass and lake, and continued.

"It's quite safe for us to camp here. There's a lake on the right, a forest on the left, and the surrounding towns aren't very big. It's also more than 80 kilometers away from Dallas."

"If your home isn't even as good as this place, don't expect me to risk my life to help you find your relatives, buddy!"

After saying that, Eugene, holding a beer bottle in his right hand, looked at Gavin with a cold smile.

Beside Gavin, Madison frowned, slammed his spoon against his plate, and cursed.

"What the hell are you doing, Red Hair? You think the boss went home just to find his family?"

"Even stewed meat can't shut you up. Those meats were a real waste. Now you should listen to the boss's instructions!"

After berating Eugene, Madison looked expectantly at Gavin.

Gavin smiled knowingly upon seeing this.

It seems Madison also has concerns about the future, and he's using Eugene to gather information.

Gavin nodded, scooped up a spoonful of meat, put it in his mouth, and said as he chewed.

"Eugene, didn't you already say that I'm a star player, and also a billionaire?"

"So, my family farm covers 140,000 acres."

At this point, Gavin scooped up another spoonful of rice soaked in broth and put it in his mouth.

Across from them, after hearing Gavin's brief explanation, everyone around fell silent.

What does 140,000 acres mean?
Wagner Ranch, the largest ranch in the United States and the model for Yellowstone Ranch in the TV series Yellowstone, covers approximately 520,000 acres.

The largest ranch in Texas, 6666, covers approximately 240,000 acres.

So when everyone learned that Gavin Farm was more than half the size of Ranch 6666, they were immediately taken aback.

Seeing the slightly stunned expressions on everyone's faces, Gavin grinned and continued.

“I have a hobby of buying land, and most of my income is used to acquire land. Unfortunately, I never thought about the end of the world and was unable to build fortresses or underground shelters on the farm in advance.”

"Even without preparation, my farm is a good place to survive, as it includes various terrains such as forests, swamps, rivers, reservoirs, farmland, pastures, and two not-too-steep mountain areas."

"Besides that, most importantly, my farm is sparsely populated!"

"Within the nearly 140,000 acres of the farm, there are only about 300 households, and these 300 households are quite scattered."

"Apart from the more than seventy cowboy families who came together to form a small town of two or three hundred people, most of the rest lived far away and were scattered throughout the ranch."

"So, Eugene, do you think this kind of environment is worth risking your life for?"
