Doomsday America
Chapter 64 Farewell
Chapter 64 Farewell
Madison's words plunged the entire car into complete silence.
After a brief moment of stunned silence, Eugene quickly took his hand off Gavin's shoulder and awkwardly rubbed the foregrip of the MK11 back and forth.
"Uh……"
Eugene opened his mouth with difficulty, but he really didn't know what to say, so he simply closed his mouth again and let out a long sigh.
"Hey……"
He exhaled, leaned against the car window, and instead of continuing to snipe zombies, he took out a cigarette and smoked it with Gavin.
Seeing that there was a lot more smoke in the car, Gavin exhaled a puff of smoke and waved his hand gently.
"It's okay, I've already imagined this scene."
"You can have a smoke and take a break to refresh yourself. You can continue sniping in a bit."
"We should keep those two dogs unless they discover us and attract the zombies."
"Dogs are much more perceptive than humans. They might be able to help us when we settle down here."
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin took only two puffs before throwing the cigarette out of the car.
Seeing this, Eugene nodded silently, then took aim with a cigarette in his mouth.
Perhaps because he killed more zombies in the afternoon, Eugene's shooting is now more accurate and fluid than it was at the dairy farm.
In addition, there were relatively few people in the manor area, so Eugene only took fourteen or fifteen minutes to take down all the zombies that were visible to the naked eye in the manor.
Seeing the corpses lying all over the ground, the two German Shepherds were too exhausted to bark.
They lay quietly beside Gavin's mother's body, occasionally opening their eyes to glance at the others.
As Gavin's car drew closer to the estate, the two German Shepherds glanced listlessly in his direction.
Meanwhile, Gavin parked his car in front of the manor gate, taking the side road that branched off from Highway 283 leading to the main gate and garage of his estate.
As he got out of the car, one of the two German Shepherds suddenly pricked up its ears and rushed toward Gavin.
The other German Shepherd was a little confused, but since its predecessor had already run over, it naturally followed suit.
The lead German Shepherd buried its head in Gavin's body, hugging Gavin's front legs and whimpering, and even bringing its still bloodstained mouth close to Gavin's chest.
Beside them, another German Shepherd sat on the ground, looking at its predecessor with a bewildered expression, then scrutinizing Gavin.
"Wang!"
It tentatively barked at Gavin, who then made a shushing gesture to silence it.
The dog was very obedient and quieted down. Gavin then released the German Shepherd, who was more affectionate towards him, and spoke to Madison and Eugene.
"This is Barry, my mom's old dog. I've known him since I was very young."
"As for that one, could it be its puppies, or a new hunting dog?"
As he spoke, Gavin patted the head of another German Shepherd.
He hadn't been back to the farm for two years and didn't even know the name of that new German Shepherd.
Watching Gavin interact with the dog, Eugene nodded and forced a smile.
"This is already pretty good. Even if it's just a dog, it's still an old friend."
"Besides, there's probably someone you know hiding in the forest, who knows, maybe it really is your dad..."
"Cough cough!"
As Eugene was speaking, Madison patted his arm, interrupting him.
Eugene looked at Madison with a puzzled expression, while Madison pointed to the edge of the flower bushes, where the body of a male zombie in pajamas lay.
At the same time, Gavin patted the two of them on the shoulder and said calmly.
"Stop putting on this silent show. Clean up the bodies around here, pile them in the yard, and bring people over tomorrow to clean them up and burn them all."
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin waved to the two of them and urged them on.
"Go ahead, let me spend some time with my parents."
“I knew all along that since the zombies in the manor hadn’t been lured away, the mysterious person who went to the horse farm probably didn’t start from the manor.”
"It's not so bad now. My parents don't have any bite marks. At least they never experienced the fear of being surrounded by the apocalypse and zombies until they became zombies."
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin waved his hand again, and Madison and Eugene could only nod and leave his vicinity.
After watching the two men walk away to move the bodies, the two German Shepherds thought for a moment, but ultimately followed Gavin to his parents' bodies.
Gavin first picked up his mother's body and carried it for more than a hundred meters before placing it under a fruit tree.
Then, Gavin brought over his father's body as well.
Just as he put down his father's body.
"Fake!"
The sudden sound of cursing from afar made Gavin unconsciously look towards the manor. At the same time, inside the manor, Old Mike looked from the living room down to the second-floor corridor and asked nervously.
"How are you?"
As Madison shouted, he rushed up to the second floor until he saw Eugene pinning a female zombie to the ground and plunging a dagger into her eye socket.
Using all his strength, Eugene spun his knife, then sat up in a panic, repeatedly touching the places the zombie had touched, muttering incoherently.
"I didn't know, damn it, there's someone in the bathroom!"
"Luckily, she was just a little girl. Luckily, I reacted quickly enough. Haha, I killed her with one slash!"
"Damn it, we need to be more careful. I let my guard down a bit!"
"These damn zombies, there might be one or two hiding somewhere. What a load of rubbish about the apocalypse, fuck it!"
When Eugene got to this point, Madison let out a long sigh.
Because Eugene's swearing lasted for more than seven seconds.
If he could turn into a zombie, he would have done so long ago.
As long as nothing happens, it's a good thing.
After letting out a long sigh, Madison reached out and helped Eugene up.
The blood from the glove Eugene used to stab the zombie's eye inevitably stained Old Mike's hands as well.
Old Mai angrily rubbed some blood on his body and casually patted Eugene's wrist.
"Let's act together."
"No problem, just keep an eye on each other."
Eugene nodded, then turned on the intercom and spoke to Gavin.
"Boss, you have no idea how awesome I am! I took down a zombie! With a fucking knife!"
After saying that, Eugene turned off the walkie-talkie and then nervously leaned closer to Old Man Mike to ask.
"Ahem, Old Mike, the one I just took down... wasn't it another one of the boss's sisters or something?"
"No, the eldest son lives alone, and he has always wanted a younger sister."
Madison patted Eugene on the shoulder, signaling him to relax.
At the same time, Gavin's voice came through the walkie-talkie.
"One? That's far from enough."
Hearing Gavin's words, Eugene let out a long sigh of relief and then sheathed the dagger.
Then, he looked at the Viking battle axe in Old Mike's hand, licked his lips enviously, and said...
"If I had known, I wouldn't have tried to show off at old Bert's house. I have to admit, one-handed weapons are much more useful than a damn dagger!"
"What's the rush? You can pick out a suitable one after we get back."
After exchanging pleasantries, Old Mai and Eugene then explored every room in the manor that could be opened.
Apart from the female zombies they encountered along the way, there were no other living people in the manor.
Together, they carried the female zombie out of the manor.
Just then, Gavin happened to be passing by the door with a shovel. He saw the female zombie they were carrying and peeked over.
After glancing at it, Gavin shook his head.
“Elischer, my family baker’s daughter, a gardener, and she also learned a bit about nutritional meals. I heard she’s been my mom’s personal chef for the past two years.”
"Is it?"
Upon hearing this, Eugene laughed exaggeratedly.
"That would be terrible! Hopefully, her cooking isn't as good as Doris's, otherwise we'll miss out on a delicious meal!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Eugene glanced at the shovel in Gavin's hand and asked.
"Need any help, buddy? Digging a hole isn't an easy task."
"I dug trenches in the army. Someone who doesn't know how to dig can spend a whole day trying to dig a big hole!"
"Need not."
Gavin shook his head in response.
"Dozens of corpses should keep you two busy for a while. As for me, consider it a break. You two keep busy."
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin headed far away into the orchard and began digging under the fruit trees.
Watching Gavin's figure disappear, Eugene and Old Mike moved Elisha's body away from the garden and to a location closer to the road for easier transport later.
