Chapter 189 Zod's Lies

General Zod sat in the spaceship, his eyes wide, his super vision scanning the vicinity at almost every frequency.

By this time, their spaceship had already flown back into outer space, where its mothership should have been parked.

But they found nothing.

Zod stared wide-eyed, his head full of questions.

Where is my home?

No, he just wandered around on the surface for an hour or two, and when he came back, his house was gone.

"Where is the mothership?" Zod was furious, turning to look at the few remaining subordinates on the ship.

The entire mothership vanished into thin air, and Zod's Kryptonian army instantly dwindled to just a handful of small creatures, much like Norn's forces.

Now, besides his most trusted Kryptonian female lieutenant Fiora, another Kryptonian giant over two meters tall, and Norn, he only has three to five Kryptonian warriors left.

Zod and Rozburg's forces were almost completely wiped out, and they hadn't even seen who their opponents were.

"We detected energy fluctuations from the Phantom Drive going berserk," a subordinate said, embarrassed. "We speculate that the Phantom Drive's counter-currents created a singularity, and the mothership was sucked into the Phantom Zone."

"Karl-El"

Zod was furious. He yelled "Ahhh!" and smashed the control panel next to him into scrap metal with his fist.

The remaining few remained silent, knowing that all was lost. The mothership was gone, the planetary terraforming engines were gone, and the Great Cleansing System was gone.

They all vaguely sensed that an invisible hand was manipulating them from behind the scenes. Even now, their homes have been stolen, and they know nothing about their enemy.

“No, it’s not over yet,” Zod gritted his teeth. “There’s still Kal-El. I’m going to kill him and take the Central Codex! His remains will become the foundation of the new Krypton, and we can still…”

boom!

Before the words were even finished, the spaceship's outer hull had been blasted through. A red and blue afterimage crashed through the outer shell and flew in, landing in the center of the control room with a sliding tackle.

Speak of the devil, and he appears; Superman has arrived.

"You!" Zod's eyes widened in fury. "You've destroyed Krypton's hope! Traitor!"

“Krypton was destroyed long ago,” Superman said. “Even if it were to be rebuilt, it wouldn’t be on the corpses of seven billion people.”

"Shut up!"

Enraged, Zod leaped forward. Superman retaliated with a punch, and the two fought as they shot through the spaceship and into space.

There was no need for words anymore; even his mind was blank. Zod himself didn't quite remember what happened next. He only felt his blood rushing, and anger mixed with seemingly endless energy surged from within him, pouring into his fists and pounding out again and again.

By this time, Zod had already absorbed solar energy and gained superpowers, and this Kryptonian exoskeleton armor allowed him to take his superpowers to the next level, making him even stronger than Kal-El.

No, he was a born warrior from the start; his genetic modifications gave him far greater strength than Karl. This made him invincible, leaving this Kryptonian hothead, raised on a farm, with absolutely no chance of resistance.

When I came to my senses, it was already over.

His hands were stained with blood; their battle had pierced the moon. And the traitor he hated, Karl-El, was dead, his head ripped open and his face unrecognizable.

“You shouldn’t have opposed me. It’s a real shame we could have built a new Krypton together.” Zod stood up, looking at the gradually cooling corpse. “Perhaps you should have died with your father.”

And this was the starting point for his counterattack.

Karl-El's counterattack caused him considerable trouble, but this did not deter him. He killed Karl-El and seized the Central Codex. Without planetary terraforming engines, they ravaged Earth using more primitive methods, spending more time and fighting more battles, but ultimately succeeded in conquering the planet.

A new Krypton was established, and its inhabitants became the architects of a new era. Twenty years later, the new Krypton was thriving, and the civilization built by its people, bathed in the yellow sun, was even more magnificent than that of Krypton's former glory.

Even Brainiac, Krypton's greatest nemesis, suffered a crushing defeat when he once again coveted New Krypton. That abhorrent artificial intelligence was annihilated before Zod's invincible fleet.

Brainiac himself, battered and tattered from the beating and explosion, crawled laboriously on the ground, dragging wires and sparks along his back, and said in a broken electronic voice, "No, no, Emperor Zod is just too strong."

Meanwhile, Zod, dressed in a lavish gold outfit and wearing an imperial cloak, stepped on its mechanical head and laughed heartily at the magnificent world he had created.

"."

"Is it normal for him to be grinning like that?"

Looking from inside Zod's spaceship, Kara saw Zod lying on the ground, his body bound by magic and tied behind his back with a noose of lies, half-asleep and chuckling to himself, and couldn't help but feel puzzled.

She looked at Riven, who was casting a spell beside her.

"Did your magic turn him into an idiot?"

“Don’t look at me, I don’t know either.” The raven girl shook her head. “The illusions are generated spontaneously based on their individual inner thoughts, and I don’t know what they each saw.”

As he spoke, General Zod, who was tied to the ground, grinned again, letting out a series of silly laughs, his body shaking as he laughed.

"Wow." Kara covered her mouth. "This looks pretty weird."

This was the main line of defense that Shen You decided to deploy after careful consideration. In the movie, General Zod and his subordinates appeared fully armed, wearing exoskeletons that could block any radiation. This meant that neither Kryptonite nor the Red Sun would be effective until the armor was damaged.

However, in the beginning of the movie, even the yellow solar radiation was blocked, so those Kryptonians must have relied on their own physical abilities and the power of their high-tech exoskeletons to fight Superman to a standstill.

But now that General Zod has been planning this for so long, and has even joined forces with Rozburg, Shen You felt there was reason to believe they had already gained superpowers from sun exposure and also had armor to shield them from radiation.

This effectively neutralized the first two of the Kryptonians' three well-known weaknesses—although Shen You felt he was fully capable of violently destroying their armor, he could, but there was no need.

So he designed this trap based on the only remaining third major weakness: magic.

When it comes to magic, few in the world are more skilled than the Third Princess. They had arranged for the raven to set up a barrier beforehand, waiting for them to rush in. The girls were completely unaware, but the moment they entered, they were all trapped in an illusion.

Following Shen You's hacking of the spaceship's defense system, they infiltrated through the walls at supersonic speed, using a lasso of lies to bind them all tightly, thus amplifying the effect.

The quality of Raven's magic is beyond question, and the Lasso of Lies is a magical artifact that even Wonder Woman, a magician, couldn't escape in the original work. Naturally, a group of Kryptonians with negative magic resistance would have no chance at all.

“I don’t even know how to thank you.” Superman looked at Shen You and said sincerely, “Things could have been much worse. I mean, can you imagine me fighting them on the ground?”

Thousands upon thousands of people could die! I can barely even imagine it.”

"And there will be hundreds of millions in property losses, and many, many buildings may collapse," Kara interjected.

"Yes, I can't afford to compensate for that much loss. You all know how meager my salary is at the Daily Planet."

“Who knows, maybe the owner of another building will come looking for you to settle scores,” Kara laughed. “Maybe he’s super rich, with a ton of kryptonite and some awesome armor.”

Superman thought for a moment: "I don't know, that sounds like something Lex Luthor would do. Surely no one else would be that bored?"

After a moment of silence, his tone suddenly became somewhat uncertain.

"Shouldn't we?"

Chapter 190 Overthrowing the Superior (Passive)

General Zod might be a big problem for the rookie Superman in the movie, but for Shen You, Kryptonians and Kryptonian technology are the first people he has come into contact with and studied the most since he came to DC. He has a dozen ways to deal with them, not to mention that he still remembers the decisive move of the Phantom Drive collision in the Man of Steel movie.

Assuming prior preparation is possible, Zod is no longer considered a boss in Shen You's eyes; at best, he's an elite monster. There are bound to be moments of failure, but there are so many ways to recover that there's not much to worry about.

General Zod's televised declaration of a 24-hour period, or even just a few hours later, had already resolved the situation. While civilians and military personnel across the globe remained in a state of panic, the United Nations held an emergency meeting, and the FAST telescope was fully mobilized. The public anxiously awaited the apocalyptic scenario of aliens arriving.

However, no one expected that there would be no follow-up.

Zod went on TV and made a bold statement, trying to show off, but he died before he could finish. Twenty-four hours passed uneventfully, and nothing happened, leaving the people of Earth completely bewildered.

After everything was settled, Shen You's fleet of ships increased again, and the variety of his collection continued to expand. Zod's mothership was absorbed, but one ship remained. After Norn was arrested, Rothsburg, which had been hiding outside for a long time, was finally exposed.

Of course, now only a bunch of weaklings remained in Rozburg, offering no resistance whatsoever when Shen You came knocking. Thus, Shen You quickly added another Kryptonian high-tech prison to his inventory.

If things continue like this, Shen You feels he could even build an interstellar fleet in the future. A ragtag fleet combining the technologies of a dozen or so civilizations—the thought is rather intriguing.

Of course, this is just a thought at the moment. As we all know, spaceships are basically at the bottom of the interstellar power hierarchy in the DC universe. The first Green Lantern in history, without any training or experience, was able to single-handedly defeat an entire interstellar fleet on his first real combat use of the Green Lantern ring.

In the setting, the warships of top civilizations are often just background to highlight the strength of powerful enemies when they appear in interstellar events. No matter how powerful a warship is, its fate is always the same as that of the Earth Defense Force's planes. In the end, it either goes out of the air like a firecracker or performs a show of fishing in the Philippines.

Before parting ways, Shen You gave Da Chao some instructions, asking him to take good care of the International Gang.

After all, Metropolis is Superman's territory. Although Superman prefers to use his external brain when fighting, his investigative abilities are still quite good when he's a reporter. Entrusting him with investigating the inside story of the International Gang should be a pretty reliable option.

The International Gang holds a similar position to the Falcone family in Gotham, practically controlling the entire Metropolis's criminal network. If that were all, it wouldn't warrant Shen You's attention, but if it involves an alien civilization of unknown origin, then it's something to be very careful about.

In particular, the International Gang, as the main criminal organization in the Superman story, often involves the most classic interstellar villains in the entire DC series, whether in pre-reboot or post-reboot comics or animated adaptations.

Apokolips.

This is why Shen You instinctively felt alarmed when the Penguin revealed the name "International Gang".

Compared to the problems here, General Zod is truly a minor skirmish. Apokolips and its ruler, the new god Darkseid, are the Justice League's eternal threat. Even in the original events, the Justice League's encounters with Darkseid often only represent the tip of the iceberg of this supreme new god's power.

The radar on Shen You's side reacted early the next morning.

"Special energy fluctuations have been detected entering the atmosphere, and there is a matching entry in the database." Pal reported the results to Shen You. "The signal location is in the coastal city."

Newly created file, targeting the energy reaction of codenamed 'Green Lantern'.

"Ha'er is back?" Shen You thought for a moment.

Last time, Hal rushed back to Oa, saying he wanted to find the Guardian to ask about the machine hunter. Perhaps he could explain why that machine hunter was here and what his intentions were towards Earth.

"Plan a flight for me to the seaside city."

"Okay, sir."

Seaside City, "Seaside Home" ice cream shop.

Hal Jordan was wearing a store clerk uniform with a somewhat comical apron hanging in front of him, and he managed a forced business-like smile.

"Would you like anything, sir?"

Hal, who was blacklisted by finance and logistics departments for crashing too many planes, was kicked out of the Air Force and had to find a new job to make a living on Earth.

The man behind the counter adjusted his glasses, having studied the menu for almost his entire life.

Hal's patience was wearing thin: "If you don't need anything, please give up your seat to the customer behind you in line, sir."

"Okay, whatever." The man looked up and said vaguely, "Then give me a pie first, something hot."

“We sell ice cream, sir,” Hal said with a forced smile.

"Does that mean there are no more deliveries?"

"No."

"Fine." The man waved his hand impatiently. "Then just give me something hot and oily."

Hal's smile had completely vanished, and he stared at him expressionlessly.

"Are you here to cause trouble, you idiot?"
