Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star

Chapter 127 - Ch. 127 Chleo And Vincent

Chleo took a deep breath when she arrived at the door of her father's study.

Then she knocked on the door, and after getting an answer, she opened it and went inside with the brightest sweet smile she ever showed.

At least she had to soften her father's heart with her smile first.

Chleo walked over to her father, who was currently talking video conference on his laptop. In contrast to her father's look, who was always friendly and warm whenever he was with his family, her father's face now looked serious and gave off a slightly intimidating aura.

"I don't care if I lose a few hundred million dollars, but I won't let it go if this happens again. Are you sure you warned the Greys?"

Hearing Gray's name mentioned made Chleo's eyes widen in surprise. Was her dad talking about Ashley Grey? Does that mean the person talking to her father right now is Uncle Darrel?

"What do you want me to do? You want me to threaten them, but you don't want me to reveal your daughter's identity. How would he know who not to mess around?"

Vincent glanced at her daughter, who was frozen in place.

"I'll call you again," he said without letting Darrell respond and immediately closed his laptop.

"Chleo, if I ask you to quit Daphnia Fashion immediately, would you do it?"

"W… why do you want me to quit?"

"You know very well I don't like you working for a company that isn't mine. Or your uncle's. If you insist on working there, why not go to Washington DC? I'm sure Darrell will provide you with a good job. No one would trap you nor accuse you."

"..."

Chleo was confused at this point. Wasn't he called her to discuss her relationship with Max? But why had her father been discussing her internship and Ashley's underhand manner towards her?

Chleo had prepared herself mentally in case her father interrogated her about her affair. But she wasn't ready to be asked about her job. Or about Ashley, who had been trying to make things difficult for her lately.

"I like Daphnia Fashion. I've made good friends with the people there. Ah, Jaydn is there too. So…"

"Jaydn?" Vincent's eyebrow rose. "You mean Jaydn Anderson?"

"Yes. Jayden Anderson!" Chleo was relieved to remember Uncle Stanley's youngest cousin. At least if her father knew someone he knew was one of her co-workers, maybe he would let her keep working.

Or so she thought.

"I still want you to resign."

Chleo bit her lip in frustration at the tone of her father's command. She wanted to fight, really she wished to protest, but with all her might, she restrained herself and remained silent.

After all, going against her father wasn't such a good idea. Her father's mood would get even worsened.

Chleo didn't want to ruin a holiday that was so full of joy just because she was up against something so insignificant.

If Vincent wanted her to quit, then so be it. Chleo could obey and please her father by working in one of Vincent's subsidiaries. That worked just fine with her.

Chleo decided to keep quiet and managed to calm herself down so as not to let her emotions take over her body.

Looking at his daughter, who just stood there without protesting, Vincent heaved a heavy sigh.

"Chleo, come here."

Chleo glanced briefly at her father then walked over to her father. As soon as they were close, she felt a large warm hand gently pat her head.

"Are you alright? Isn't this the first time you've had this kind of difficulty?"

"I'm fine. At first, I was confused, and also… I was afraid. But miraculously, I got through it. Come to think of it, maybe it was because your bodyguards helped me out of trouble. So I'm not too scared."

"I'm curious. You don't feel afraid anymore because there are bodyguards or for some other reason?"

"Ah?" Chleo blinked, not understanding her father's question.

"I heard that you were close to someone. And strangely enough, that person is not Alexis Peskhov?"

Once again, Chleo gulped nervously. This was the most challenging question she had to face. Her father discussed other things so that she had forgotten this critical matter. Now without any preparation, her father just dropped the bomb.

"Who is it?"

"He…" Chleo sighed in resignation. There was no point in her hiding her relationship from her father anymore. The more she tried to fight back, the more her father would oppose her. "His name is Maximillian Navarro. He's… a photographer from England. And he's a good friend of Dietrich Hammilton."

"Photographer?"

"Yes, papa. He is a photographer. Just like you when you met mama for the first time." Chleo wetted her lips when she saw Vincent raised his eyebrow. "I know he is an ordinary person, but I like him. I like his personality."

"..."

Chleo grew even more nervous when her father stopped speaking.

"It seemed to me you don't even know who he is."

"Of course I know him. He is a good person."

"Then invite him here."

"What?" again, Vincent dropped a bomb at her. This time a bigger one.

Why did her father want to invite Max here? Why did her father want to meet Max? Is it possible to intimidate the man?

"You're afraid I'll threaten him?"

It felt like Chleo wanted to curse herself for not being very good at managing her expression. Why could everyone read her mind as if reading an open book?

"Didn't you always threaten all the young men who approached me?"

"You don't mind so far. Why is it different now?"

"That's because… because…" because Chleo truly liked Max.

She wanted to answer him honestly but was afraid that her father would do something to Maximillian to make him break up with her if she was too honest.

"Chleo, I just wanted to meet him. Do you know what I'm resisting myself with?"

"No?"

"By not finding out about that young man."

"You didn't?" it was hard to believe that her overprotective father had no interest in investigating Max, who was now in a relationship with his beloved daughter.
