Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star
Chapter 128 - Ch. 128 Vincent's Interrogation
"Thanks to your beloved mother. She persuaded me not to find more about him. I just want to meet him. I won't threaten him or anything."
"You won't intimidate him either?"
"I won't."
"You're not going to send Uncle Kinsey and Uncle Stanley to see him either?"
"..." how did her daughter know he was planning to get Stanley and Kinsey to intimidate the guy?
Since he had promised not to threaten or intimidate his daughter's lover, he planned to use his two brothers-in-law, who gave off that intimidating aura.
Vincent didn't know when his daughter got smarter, neither did he know whether he should be proud or cry. He hoped that his daughter wasn't so clever at times like this.
"Papa?" called Chleo, interrupting Vincent's thoughts.
"Okay. I won't take them to see him," was his answer with a defeated sigh. "In exchange, you guys are going to talk a lot about that young man."
You guys? What does it mean?
Before Chleo could ask, Vincent walked past Chleo towards the door. With one thump without warning, Vincent opened the door as wide as possible, and two heads launched inside with an awkward smile looking guilty.
Chleo gaped when she saw the two people who fell there were her brother and Evie. Those mischief kids seemed to be eavesdropping all this time!
"So tell me. What is this guy named Maximillian like?" Vincent asked Evie and his youngest son.
Chleo felt like crying but couldn't get the tears out. Why did her father ask Evie and Diego? What if they badmouthed Max in front of her father?
Especially Diego. Chleo still didn't know if her brother could accept her relationship with Max or not.
Chleo took a very long breath, knowing that tonight was going to be a long night.
"Max is a nice person. He loves Chleo pretty much and always takes care of her."
"But unfortunately, he is jobless," added Diego made Chleo glare at him in annoyance.
"He's not jobless, duh. Dietrich said he had a proper job in England. He came to America on vacation."
Chleo felt grateful to Evie for protecting Max's good name and defending him. Right now, Vincent only wanted to listen to his son and Evie. Since he was so sure that if he asked his daughter to tell him about the girl's lover, Chleo would be biased and tell him the good stuff.
"Do you know what company he works for? Is it big? Is his position high enough?"
"Uhm… that. Maybe Chleo has the answers for that," replied Evie politely.
"What do you think?" but instead of asking Chleo, Vincent asked Diego instead.
"Well, I don't know his job. But he's not like someone who can get to the top."
'DIEGO!!' Chleo and Evie simultaneously shouted Diego's name in their mind.
As if Diego could feel the screams of his two sisters calling, Diego sneezed once loudly.
"How weird. I don't have flu, but why is my nose itching?" Diego scratched his now slightly red nose.
"I see," was Vincent's blank response.
Chleo instantly knew what her father's expression meant now. Her father had decided that Maximillian was not worthy of her. Her father would be planning something to make her part with Maximillian.
Chleo's face became cloudy, and her eyes became teary. She didn't want to fight, but if her father continued to deny her affair to the end, would she still be able to hold in.
Diego had seen the clouded look on his sister's face and began to think again. When Vincent was relentless in tearing apart Chleo and Alexis, Chleo decided to run away and eloped secretly.
Will history repeat itself if Vincent decides not to give his blessing?
"But papa, I can see that he loves Chleo. He is the type of person who will do anything to make the people he loves smiling. After all, I've never seen my sister as happy as when she met that guy. I think they are meant to be together."
Evie and Chleo both had their mouths open. They did not expect Diego to say that Chleo and Max were meant to be together. It was the highest praise from Diego they ever heard.
Vincent still kept a straight face even though he was a bit surprised by the statement from his youngest son. It was rare for his son to praise a young man who approached Chleo. Even Diego had never praised Alexis like this.
'I think they are meant to be together.'
Diego also never said these words when Alexis appeared in his daughter's life. Diego may indeed no longer oppose Alexis approaching Chleo, but at the same time, Diego had never openly approved of Chleo's relationship with Alexis.
Now there was someone who could get outspoken recognition from his son, making his interest in meeting Maximillian even more.
His hands were itching to get in touch with his men to investigate Max's background, but Vincent held back. He got word that Max helped his daughter several times when Chleo got into trouble, and this was enough to prove that the young man was not the enemy.
"Chleo, invite him over to this house on the 2nd before you return to Seattle. Then I will consider your relationship."
Chleo was surprised that her father dropped a bomb on her again for the umpteenth time, yet she felt relieved. At least it's an excellent first step in getting her father to give his blessing.
But… there was a tiny problem regarding Vincent's request.
"Uhm… papa, I think it would be hard to ask him to come here."
"Why?"
"He doesn't know that I'm your daughter."
Vincent and Diego stared at Chleo in disbelief while Evie coughed, choking on her saliva.
"You didn't tell him?"
"You haven't told him yet?"
Diego and Evie asked at the same time because they had no idea that Chleo had not told Maximillian that she was the daughter of the founder of the Flex group.
Chleo just shook her head briefly.
"He knows me as Chleo West, and he believed I was just an ordinary girl living in an ordinary family."
"Are you sure?" Diego couldn't believe Maximillian did not know his sister's identity until now.
Even though the blue king lost his memory and didn't know Chleo as Chleora Regnz, Diego was very confident that his sister would reveal her true identity when in a relationship.
"No. If Dietrich doesn't know who I am, then he doesn't know either."
"Of course, Dietrich doesn't know who you are. I never told him about your real name."
"Okay, I understand." Vincent cut in the middle of the conversation of three teenagers sitting together on chairs, forming a small circle. "But what is the connection between me, who wants to meet him, and him who doesn't know who you are?"
"Papa, I don't want him to go into a deep shock when he finds out I'm not from an ordinary family. Give me time. I will tell him about our family, and then I will let him meet you. How is it?"
'He wouldn't go into a deep shock even if he knew Chleo's true identity.' was the comment from both father and son inside the duo's mind.
Diego knew Max was the blue king, and the blue king wouldn't tremble in fear in front of his lover's father.
On the other hand, Vincent thought if one couldn't stand straight in front of him, he was not worthy of getting his precious daughter.
"Alright. Whatever you say. But on one condition."
"What?"
"You can't complain if one day there will be a lot of bodyguards watching you."
Chleo let out a weak sigh at this condition. In the end, she agreed to these terms with a heavy heart. At least she had her father's permission. That's all that matters.
After being satisfied with his daughter's answer, Vincent beckoned the three teenagers to join the others.
Most adults decided to stay up late listening to Christmas carols. It's Christmas Eve night, after all.
There was also a romantic Christmas waltz playing, and couples danced casually in the middle of the room.
After making sure the kids were fast asleep, Cathy and Tanya joined them. Cathy grabbed her daughter's arm because she was very curious about what her daughter and her husband were talking about.
On the other hand, Vincent was talking casually with his father-in-law. All of them enjoyed the warm atmosphere in the main hall and exchanged pleasantries with each other.
Meanwhile, Diego was looking for Stanley, who was joking with Joan and Theo.
"Uncle, can I talk to you in private?"
"Sure." Stanley chuckled, not expecting Diego to begin to enter a period where he would have a secret like a typical teenage boy.
"So, what is it?" Stanley asked once they were on the balcony a little way from the main room.
"Uncle Stanley, I know you have prepared a present for my 17th birthday."
"What?"
"I know it's a year early, but can I ask for it now?"
"…"
How could this kid know that?!
"You won't intimidate him either?"
"I won't."
"You're not going to send Uncle Kinsey and Uncle Stanley to see him either?"
