Alexis invited Chleo to dine together right then and there, and Chleo gladly accepted.

The two of them never ran out of things to talk about. There was so much they wanted to tell and say, but strangely, none of them mentioned Alexis's proposal last year on the Great Wheels.

"So you're trying to get close to your brother to start over?"

Alexis nodded his head. "To be honest, I don't even know how to approach him at all. It feels so awkward."

"Just treat it the same way you treat Diego."

Alexis laughed heartily at the suggestion. "Believe me, Diego and Darwin are very different even though they are almost the same age."

"What's different?"

"Diego is just like you. Mischievous, nosy, and also a cheerful child. As for my brother, he is hard to talk to. I barely even hear his voice."

"I think he needs time to adapt."

"Yeah, I guess so. That's why I postponed my departure here because I wanted to get to know him. He's been talking a lot lately, but I have to talk to him first. Otherwise, he would never want to voice up his mind."

"How sweet you are. You'll be a good big brother."

"I'm working on it." Alexis smiled again as he cut the steak before popping it into his mouth. "How about you? Did something good happen? It looks like you found your dream man."

Chleo choked on hearing the young man's statement. Alexis helped her get the water in her glass then handed it to Chleo.

"Is my words that surprising?" Alexis asked while tilting his head once Chleo's cough subsided.

"Alex, you…" there was guilt visible in Chleo's eyes.

Alexis gave his characteristic gentle smile to calm Chleo's nervousness.

"Now I know what's different about you. You look a lot more mature than last year. You are not the naive and innocent girl I met you the first time. Could this man be the cause? Your face looks brighter than the last time I saw you."

Chleo lowered her face feeling her cheeks heat up, hearing the man's almost correct guess.

How could Alexis noticed that she was in love with someone else, but she didn't?

Chleo took a deep breath and opened her bag to reach for something. She took out a dark blue box and handed it to Alexis.

Alexis immediately recognized the box with only one look.

When he saw Chleo pick him up wearing a turtle-neck shirt, he already had a bad feeling. By the time he noticed the change in the girl's aura, he was already suspicious.

Surprisingly, he was neither surprised nor disappointed when Chleo returned the necklace he had given her.

Maybe Alexis had already guessed it when the girl began to contact him rarely. Chleo also replied to his texts curtly without intending to continue the talk.

As he recalled, when he went abroad or returned to Russia, the girl would take the time to contact him. Chleo would not hesitate to ask him for gifts when Alexis returns to America.

Come to think of it, Chleo had always treated him like when she was with her cousin. Since Chleo didn't have an older brother who could pamper her, Chleo thought of Alexis as her brother.

In fact, Alexis had long been aware of this fact. But he didn't want to be seen as an older brother, which is why he decided to ask her out and confess his feelings.

"Are you happy?"

Alexis's sudden question startled Chleo.

Is she happy?

Well, she was pretty happy with Maximillian, but at the same time, she felt empty. She didn't know why, but her husband was not as usual and seemed more distant from her.

Chleo decided to remain silent and just gave a smile without answering his question.

"Tell me how you two met. I wonder what kind of person is trying to snatch my one and only little sister."

Chleo was stunned to hear the young man's last sentence, and then she laughed lightly.

The two of them continued to eat together, feeling relieved as if the burden had previously loaded them had just been lifted.

They secretly decide to remain friends even though Chleo refuses Alexis. If Alexis didn't mind being friends with Chleo, then Chleo would happily accept the young man's attention.

Moreover, Alexis genuinely wished to see Chleo happy, so he was willing to become an older brother as she wanted.

Unknowingly they spent together in the restaurant for more than four hours. If the restaurateur hadn't kicked them out, the two of them would not have finished chatting.

"Gosh, this is the first time I've been kicked out of a restaurant." if people heard Chleo's words, they would think Chleo was complaining, but Chleo strangely said it in a witty tone that made Alexis laugh out loud.

"Me too. What can we do? It's dinner time, so the restaurant is full."

It's true. This restaurant was getting busier with visitors, and they didn't plan to eat the same dish.

"Looks like it's time for us to part here. I'm going back to the apartment. How about you?"

"I think I'm going to see Max."

"You missed him already?"

"Alex, stop teasing me." Chleo sulked while putting on a sullen face making Alexis laugh amused while ruffling her hair.

The two still made small talk before finally walking down two different paths.

Alexis was still smiling when he met Chleo's face, but when she turned around, his smile faded to be replaced by a sad smile.

Alexis took a deep breath then forced himself to smile.

He'll be fine. Alexis convinced himself that his broken heart would heal with time.

Only then did he walk with steady steps as if he was ready to welcome a new sheet of life.

On the other hand, Chleo took her phone in her bag to call Max. Her eyes widened when she saw so many miscalls from Maximillian.

The man called her? And she didn't answer?

Instantly Chleo panicked herself and immediately called the man back. But it was Maximillian's turn who didn't pick up the phone.

Again she contacted the man, and the result was the same.

Twice, three times, even up to the twelfth time, the man still did not answer the call.

Little did she know, Maximillian was across the street watching her with Alexis ever since the two of them left the restaurant.

Their movements felt very intimate, as if the two were lovers.
