Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star

Chapter 88 - Ch. 88 Cynical Diego

"Uhm… so is Fye really your sister?"

Without knowing what was going through Chleo's mind, Max answered her question casually.

"You can say that. We've been together for two years."

Chleo gasped at that. That means... the two of them are not related by blood?

But... why didn't he deny it when Fye told her they are siblings? Could it be... Max had feelings for that girl and never viewed her as a sister?

"Ah, I see."

Max glanced at the gloomy girl with a puzzled look. Why did Chleo's tone sound so sad?

Seeing Chleo's changeable mood, Max decided to keep quiet.

In truth, Max wanted to see the girl next to him smile and even laugh. He wanted so badly to improve the girl's mood. Unfortunately, he knew very little about this girl.

No. He knew absolutely nothing about this girl. He couldn't do anything for fear that what he would do would only worsen the girl's mood.

In the end, the two of them finished their lunch in silence, without talking much. The voices they heard were people around them chatting to each other happily, as well as Christmas music that enlivened the dining room.

After that, the two returned home without continuing any plans. Max wanted to take Chleo around with the excuse of asking the girl to be his guide. But seeing Chleo's mood still not improving, Max decided to postpone it.

Chleo just remembered that she still had to say her thanks once they arrived at her house.

"Oh, I almost forgot. Thank you for helping me."

"I did nothing, though. It's me who should apologize. We should be able to enjoy our lunch, but because my head suddenly hurts, I'm bothering you."

"That wasn't a bother at all. You'd better go home and rest."

"Okay. Good luck with the interview tomorrow."

"Thank you."

It was time for Chleo to get out of the car, but she seemed reluctant. Max could see Chleo's mouth open as if to say something but then closed again.

"What is it?"

"Ha?"

"It seems you wanted to talk."

"Ah, nothing. Bye." Chleo hurriedly opened the door and got off the car.

Max wasn't satisfied with her hurry answer, and unknowingly his body moved on its own and followed Chleo.

"Chleo," Max suddenly called her name, making the girl turn to look at him.

"Yes?"

"..." Max cursed himself. Why did his body move on its own without his command? And that too... his tongue called the girl even though he had nothing to say.

But he already called her, and the girl was waiting for him. He couldn't reverse the time, and he could only strike in advance.

"Shall I pick you up tomorrow?"

"Yes! I would be pleased." was her overexcited answer with a beaming face.

Max was stunned to see a broad smile full of happiness adorn the beautiful girl. Wasn't this girl gloomy just a moment ago? Why does she look happy now?

This girl's mood changes very quickly.

"Max? Max!" called Chleo over and over because it seemed Max was lost in his world. "Are you okay? Does your head hurt again? Are you sure you can drive? How about you leave your car here and take a taxi or bus home? I don't want you to get into an accident when you get home."

Max felt his heart enveloped in warmth seeing her worrying eyes. He never knew that he could feel this happy when someone was so worried about him.

It's been a while that someone genuinely worries about him since he would never get sick or die. And he had a few friends due to his unusual body temperature.

"I'm fine. I just caught off guard."

"What?"

"Your smile is breath-stealing, so..." Max instantly pursed his lips, realizing his mistake.

Why is his tongue so fluent in voicing out his inner mind? He put both his hands at the back to clasp each other while waiting for the girl's response.

The girl's eyes widened in disbelief, and it made him worry. Will Chleo looked at him strangely? Will she avoid him now?

For some reason, Max became afraid if Chleo avoided him and didn't want to see him again.

But a second later, Chleo slightly lowered her face. Max could see the red blush on her cheeks to her ears. Could it be...?

Max rubbed the nape of his neck awkwardly. He was a fool if he didn't realize the girl's feelings. It seemed that the girl also had the same interest as him.

He was both happy and confused. It was his first time approaching a girl as a man. If he previously had a close relationship with a girl, it was because he had considered her as his daughter or sister. But he had never met a woman who made him feel this immense attraction.

Is she... his life partner?

Then what about the red-haired woman in his memory? Wouldn't that woman be his life partner?

"Sister?"

Suddenly, a deep voice sounded from behind Max, making them glance at a young man with blonde hair and blue eyes that somewhat resembled Max's.

They both had sapphire blue eyes, but Max's eyes looked even brighter as if there was a laser light in them.

Diego frowned in confusion at the presence of an unknown man who was one meter away from his beloved sister. Diego looked at Max with a probing gaze.

Black hair, blue eyes, fair skin, and… this person was very tall… maybe even taller than his father.

Then Diego turned to look at his sister suspiciously.

'Don't tell me. My sister is smitten by this blue-eyed man!?' Diego was not surprised if that was the case.

For unknown reasons, his sister has always been so obsessed with blue-eyed men that his sister would approach all of them to get acquainted.

On the other hand, Max felt he could see Diego's face somewhere, but his brain was sure this was the first time they had met.

His brain said this was their first meeting, but his heart said… he knew this young man very well.

In the next second, a not-so-clear image flashed through his head.

The picture showed a young man who had a facial resemblance to the blond-haired youth, but…

'You killed my sister!!'

Max closed his eyes holding back the same pain that hit his head again.

"Ah, Diego, you're back? I thought you were staying at uncle's for a week." Chleo's voice brought Max into reality.

Instantly the pain he felt disappeared as soon as he heard the girl's voice. And any image he saw vanished without a trace until he was unable to remember what he had just thought.

"I heard that you met a troublesome girl, so I immediately went home. Who is he?" Diego asked in an unfriendly tone as if he had assumed the blue-eyed man was his mortal enemy.

Chleo laughed nervously. It was clear from the tone of her brother's voice, Diego did not like foreign men who parked his car in front of her house.

"He… He is Dietrich's friend. You know Dietrich just arrived in Seattle last Saturday, right."

"So? What is he doing here?"

Chleo sighed resignedly to hear that. If her brother had put on a cold, unfriendly expression like this, it would be tough for him to accept Max's presence.

Diego was always this cynical about all the male friends who approached Chleo. The boy had the same attitude towards Alexis at the beginning of their meeting. Only recently had Diego accepted Alexis and allowed the young man to woo Chleo.

Now Diego saw a new face, and as a man, his instinct told him that this man would try to woo his sister.

"Diego, let's go inside. Tell me how Uncle Darell is. Hmm?" Chleo urged as she pulled her brother's hand.

"Max, I'm sorry. You better get home soon. And also…" Chleo pushed her brother's back away from them, then turned around and whispered to Max, making Max lower his head slightly. "You can pick me up around ten."

Max chuckled at Chleo's adorable behavior.

"Max? Why do you call him so affectionate?" Diego protested in a whisper-like voice.

"What? You should check your hearing. How did that sound affectionate?"

Max waited until Chleo's back entered the house first. Chleo turned to close the door and took the time to give Max a shy smile who was still looking at her.

Max smiled as he chuckled.

After the two siblings didn't see him, Max's smile slowly faded. He wondered what he had seen earlier when he met the young man.

Even though Chleo hadn't introduced him to the boy, Max knew it was Diego Regnz, Chleo's younger brother, due to the boy's call toward Chleo.

He hadn't even met Chleo's parents yet, but he had to face his cynical little brother first.

"Vincent, you have an amazing son. That kid had the same glint in his eyes when you were young." his lips showed a thin smile while remembering his first interaction with Vincentius Regnz's youngest child.
